I am having 2 problems. 1st - At the end of the game I can't collect all the goodies, the screen closes before they drift down far enough to get them. 2nd - After the round is over on the screen that pops up you can't read all the lines, about 1/3 of the right side of the screen is messed up.
Outside of that I like the game a lot...... Anybody have any suggestions on how to cure this. I have the 1.04 patch added.

Just wanted to add: I luv ya, whiterabbit! Don't always read your whole review (yes, there's that scroll button) but I get an honest gist of the game before I download it. Thanks, Stephen.

The game doesn't work right for me...I can't see the dragon or the monsters, just shadows of where they are supposed to be. Any thoughts?

Firstly, I concur with all who support Stephen, aka WhiteRabbit. I always wait until I see his review before deciding whether to download the Game of the Day or not. And please don't feel you need to shorten your reviews, Stephen. All the extra info re. other games, etc., is very valuable. Upon your tips I have found other games to play. And my sincerest wish for your recovery.
GGOTD -- I have really enjoyed the games you've given away lately, and would be happy to have more of the same. My favourites (and my husband's and kids') have been Ingenious, Chroma Crash, Scaraball, Airxonix, Dinos and Bubbles. Alawar's games have all been good. Today's game I've played a few levels of, and it seems a keeper too. So, many, many thanks for the freebies -- I tell everyone about this site. I realize adults are mainly the ones who download the games, but many times of behalf of children... Your choices have been great for my family.

Whiterabbit, THANK YOU for taking so much time to review each game on offer and give it a fair and impartial rating. I, like so many others, almost always wait to read your post before I download. You are one of the very few who actually give a review of the game itself. Too many others are just whining and complaining about whiners and complainers or that the game isn't what they like. Whether or not I'm interested in the game, I like to read the comments just to see how infantile so many people can be.
I do pray for your health to improve. In the meantime, keep the reviews coming! "Most" of us love ya!

In defense to #4, he never did say that he doesn't like whiterabbit's comments.. he's just giving a suggestion that maybe (READ --> MAYBE) it would be better if whiterabbit's comments would be linked to another page.. not because its not helpful, but simply because it's too long..
Anyway, personally, i think its just alright to have long reviews here (comments page).. After all, that's what's this page is about.. to give relevant and constructive comments and reviews about the game.. Rather than simply saying I LIKE IT or I DONT.. so keep 'em coming whiterabbit..
As for the people flaming #4, pls dont flame him.. he's just sharing his opinion.. As for #4, i guess you're the minority here, and just have to scroll down.. lol
Now for the game -- TERRIFIC! the graphics and concept is nice.. the only downside is that it's too short (only 35 levels) and only has 2 models to choose from.. but on the upside, its replayability is great since there are plenty of combinations for the spells and bonuses of your choice

20 bucks for this game. I wouldn't pay 2 dollars for it, no wonder they are giving it away because no one would probably buy it. I have paid for a lot of great games from game stores like EB Games, that only cost $19.99 AUD and they are great. Games like Big Bytes etc, are great to buy and they cost the same. Why can't we have games on this website like the 20 dollar versions of Lara Croft Tomb Raider or even games like Divine Divinity, which is only $10.00 from Australian game stores, and is very much like Diablo 2, which has much better things to do. We are always getting these pathetic games like puzzle games where you match the blocks. Come on, who really wants games like them anymore. We are in a world now where 10 children are playing games like Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion, which I love. I am just pointing out that the guys that get these games put on this site, should rethink there policy on the type of games people really want, not what 4 year old children would want. If they have problems on working out the games people like, then go to a game review board and see what people are buying. I mean you have free software everyday that I have got, that the prices are up to $50.00, like the giveaway yesterday that was Liquid Story Binder XE, that was worth $45.95 USD, so why can't we get games such as that. Every game the admin put for download are always priced $19.95 USD, so why can't we get games that are worth more then the junk we have been getting. It is an insult that they admin think we would be so entertained with puzzle games, or old arcade style games that where around about 15 years ago, when we can go to free game websites that have the same type games for free. Come on guys, try and give us all something a little more entertaining that we are going to want to wake up to in the morning and want to play straight away, not games where people are saying that they uninstalled it 2 minutes after installing it. Please get us better games.

Holy crap, it's Tyrian with dragons! Seriously, I love vertical scrolling shooters, and this one adds what I think is a great new twist to the genre by replacing jets and lasers with dragons and magic spells. I can understand why some people would find a game like this repetitive, but for people who don't have hours to spend playing games, a game like this is great because a level can be completed in a few minutes.
I've really been enjoying the games that have been given away on this site lately. Please keep up the great work, guys!

I'm really touched by the support everyone has shown today. I did take Red Pills comments with a pinch of salt thankfully; though I do agree that ‘negative’ comments directed specifically at individuals are out of order in this sort of environment, and IMO should be removed by the moderators. It’s so nice to see so much support when it happens though. I will be continuing my reviews for the foreseeable future. Some will be lengthy, some short, but I will always endeavour to give an impartial and fair review of any game.
If you see me scoring software below 6 then I probably wouldn't buy it, although it doesn't mean it's not worth playing. I have actually bought software on impulse that I’d give less than 6 for after playing it. Scoring it with 8 or above usually means I have or will definitely be buying it, and a 6 or 7 means its a great game that I recommend you at least try it and see what you think, because we all have different ideas as to what's good and bad, but there are those games, such as Ricochet Infinity, Magic Ball 3, Gish, Gumboy Crazy Adventures, Atlantis Sky Patrol, Breakquest, Glyph, Jets 'n' Guns Gold, Little Shop of Treasures 2, Mythic Marbles, Peggle Deluxe, Bejewelled 2 Deluxe, Big Kahuna Reef 2, 7Lands, and Virtual Villagers 2, that whatever your poison would probably impress you with their game play, graphics and re-playability; and in my opinion have been money well spent despite my opinions on the pricing of these games, {which is based mainly on comparisons with the big name games that after some time can be bought for far less than many arcade games}……. What are many hours of fun worth anyway?
Unfortunately I think only one of the above has been given away so far, although some have been represented by other games such as Breakout shooting, which is basically the same as Mythic Marbles and the recently given away Arctic Quest II which is similar to 7 Lands. They are IMO some of the best arcade games available. There are a lot more I could mention that I feel are just as good, but these were the ones in my head at this moment :) however as usual I digress when today’s spotlight should be on ArchMage.
In light of the price reduction, it would seem a much better bargain, although I'd still have to think twice before buying it as I think all arcade games are overpriced when you compare them with the price reductions as time passes that you get with the $50 games. :)
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try out this and all the other games free for an extended period. I always enjoy that moment just before you discover what’s on offer. You’ve provided me with games I would never have thought to buy previously. :)

To #4, Red Pill, You are entitled to your opinion, and thank you for not being rude or denigrating in any way. Instead, you stated your opinion concisely and politely, but I would like to join with all the others here and say NO, NO, NO, please Stephen, don't transfer your reviews to ANY other medium, not even the forums. This is the page they belong on. Like most others, I look for Stephen's review before downloading as I too, totally trust his opinion.
I have been ill and housebound for the last month, and this is the one site I have been bothered with; if I had to click onto another site to look for Stephen's reviews, I probably wouldn't have done so, just flagged it.
So, please Stephen keep writing your wonderful reviews, they are very much valued by nearly all of us, as you can see from all the comments. Living in New Zealand, I come to this site at the end of your day, so hopefully my comments will still be read by Stephen and Red Pill.
I would also like to say that I value Merrill's comments too, and I am sorry that you are unable to post a daily review now. I used to value Swan's too, but I agree with you Merrill, her site takes too long to load for me, and is too convoluted. Bladed Thoth's on the other hand, I will always read, if I am interested in the software offered.
So, Stephen, I too know what a morphine haze is like, luckily with me, it took all my pain away, but it also took my brain with it, you must be very very strong minded to be able to keep as mentally active as you obviously are. Kudos to you.

Installed and activated fine on XP, played a few levels, nicely addictive. Great shooting fun, for those of us who like shooting games and who aren't as ... er... coordinated for the more complicated games of today. And did I mention the cool dragon and explosions??

Thumbs down to this boring medieval overhead shooter. I was only able to stomach a few minutes of it. It's not quite as lame looking as the screenshots indicate, but that's hardly a recommendation.
Aside from the bland, monotonous graphics (the backgrounds are especially lacking) and sounds, the main problem is the severely limited movement of the dragon. One can only traverse back and forth along the bottom of the screen, not over the entire screen. Also, the weapons and spells disappear after a few moments, so, unlike in other games of its type, there isn't that sense of achievement and elation at the acquisition of successively more destructive power-ups.
I don't recommend it, but most people here obviously disagree. To each his own.

I usually don't comment, but just had to today in response to #4's comment. WhiteRabbit, I love your reviews. I ALWAYS check to see what you have to say about a game before I download it. I like that your review is right here and easy to access and read. I too am housebound due to a disability and spend much time playing games to keep my mind active. Your very excellent reviews tell me much more about a game and if I want to take the time to download it and give it a try than anyone elses or even the manufacture's overly enthusiastic description. I always check for your review before anything else...and if I get here before you have written one then I will usually wait and come back later so I can see what you have to say about the game before I go any farther. Thank you for the excellent job you do! I think the comments clearly show (except for #4) just how much you are appreciated. Also thank you to GGOTD for filling my days with wonderful games! I appreciate the work you do too. And if there is a game I don't want I don't whine about it. I just eagerly wait for the next day's offering. Not every game will please everyone...everyone has their own favorites. I just love the fact this site exists and thank you for all games I do love...including today's offering!

As someone with physical limitations (I also have been in & out of hospitals for tests the past 2 weeks) I find the references to game controls of great value for myself. The reminders to check game websites don't hurt either. The objective testing with extra screenshots help alot. I have began to look for & trust "White rabbit" posts.
I have never followed a link from "White Rabbit" that was a "bad" site. I wish I could say the same for every other link posted. (Use caution).
The link to 300AD site offers a video of today's game "in action". I also found 3 more free games there that look promising.
I had about declined "ArchMag" with only the discription first offered.
I will try today's game based on that video and the comments in this forum.
I doubt I would have discovered "300AD" had it not been offered by GOTD. (Mission accomplished) 8-) LOL - Thanks ...

This is a very fun game to play. I downloaded it last time it was offered. More levels would be greatly appreciated though. I do enjoy the ride on the back of the dragon. It makes the game more interesting to me. The amount of things you're able to blow up with the weapons is very cool.
Thank you whiterabbit for your reviews on this site. I always read your review before I download a game even if I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it. You always have the pros & cons of a game in your review plus a "score" that you give each game. I myself prefer to not have to link to your reviews in the future but if that's what I have to do in order to read them, then I will. I find your reviews very useful.

Thanks for your opinion Red Pill comment #4. I have thought about having a dedicated site, but to be honest I haven’t the patience to set one up. I’m house bound due to a serious accident over 2 years ago, so yeah; I don’t have much of a life at the moment. Comment # 6, I did write back in July that I was going to start posting my reviews in the forums with a link to them from the comments section, but I just haven’t bothered yet. It’s something I will get around to eventually, but until then I’ll just continue in the manner I’ve become accustomed to. If you don’t want to read through my ‘Walls’ of text as you put it then, as Retroboy says, “I’ll use my mouse wheel. It’s not that hard to just scroll by them.” :)
I’m not looking for any accolades, such as attempting to give others the impression that I’m a distinguished reviewer; lol, what a laugh…..all I’m trying to do is keep my mind active. I play a lot of games simply for distraction purposes. Playing games helps to take my mind off the pain, which the morphine and other drugs I take only take the edge off. Writing the reviews, which I wish were better also helps to keep my mind reasonably active. Unfortunately I can’t please everyone here, but then again as I’ve just tried to explain, that’s not why I write reviews; although I do appreciate comments that are made by others and thank Retroboy comment #7 and Hendrik9’s comment #12 for their kind words today. It’s always nice to hear such words when others don’t seem happy.
I will bear in mind your suggestions though, and maybe start posting the comments in the forums here as I always write the review on a word document first, so I suppose logging in to the forums shouldn’t be too much of a hassle, lol
As for today’s game, there’s no need to write reams today as the comments above already cover most points and indicate that it’s a worthwhile download. With just a combined activation and set up module, installation is a breeze. It worked on both of the systems I installed it on; an XP Pro SP2 and a Vista Home Premium 64.
The games intro’ screen is excellent and gives a foretaste of what to expect graphically from the game. I would say, apart from the shortage of levels, there only being 37 levels, this is a nice looking and very playable shooter. Collecting the runes to make up new weapons and spells is a nice touch akin to the shops you visit in between levels on some of the space shooters. The variety of monsters is also limited to 20, but to be honest, with the number of combinations you can get from these it really doesn’t matter and besides it in no way detracts from the game play, which is all that really matters. I’ve only played several levels so far, but know I’m going to enjoy this for the rest of the day, and will probably complete it by the time I go to bed in the morning.
As for the price….hmmm… not so good. I paid the same price for Ricochet Infinity, which not only has a few hundred superb levels, a levels editor and a fantastic number of power ups, but has access to thousands of excellent fan made levels directly from the game, as well as other surprises such as the mouse party (competitive and cooperative play and more) and a choice of ships all with different specialties. Well need I say more…. Well of course…. :) For a game that can be completed in a few hours I think the price is far too high. Maybe an add-on pack would make it a worthwhile purchase, or even a patch that included a levels editor. Now that would be something. :D
With respect to the patch, I found using Open GL from the graphics option enabled me to see all the enemies and my unicorn and dragon. Using D3D, I could only see the weapon fire. I’ll probably download the v1.4 patch though just as a matter of habit as I always patch my games to the latest versions if I can. If you don’t have Open GL installed you can get it for free from the following address:
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Required_Files/OpenGL_Download.html
There are later versions, but this should work fine. You also need a 3D graphics card or on board graphics emulator for this game to work. As I’ve mentioned before all recent motherboards have graphic emulators build into the motherboard. Most shop bought computers will have this type of graphic set up unless you specifically bought a PC that stated it was for gaming, or one that you build yourself. As someone mentioned in the previous giveaway comments section, graphics cards are relatively cheap, more so now than when the comment was made as a new Direct X (10) has been released, so the price of DX 9 cards have come down dramatically recently.
Enjoy folks… :)

I downloaded and installed this game back in May and personally did not like it enough to keep on my computer although I did not leave a comment as I appreciate my dislike of this type of game and Tower Defense games is not popularly shared!!
Personally I just do not like games that require you to keep pressing a button to destroy everything in your way, I find it monotonous and without strategy or the need of skill. However, I appreciate that this game is somewhat more than that, especially with the many Power-ups that can be collected and the graphics on this game are supremely beautiful; you are a witch riding on a unicorn as I remember and the game is played with you looking down on yourself flying. In effect the game is like Space Invaders from the 80s - an object at the bottom of the screen that acts as a gun for things falling from above - but with this unique view of play it gives the game a whole different feel despite the fact that it is essentially the same.
I do feel the need to reply to comment to Red Pill at #4 and that is to say that I do not agree with their comments. This page is for thoughts about the game given each day and Whiterabbit does that perfectly, his reviews are not filled out with unnecessary "fluff", they are to the point and are long because they cover most points of the game which is an excellent resource. However, my biggest disagreement of your post (apart from the unnecessary ending) is to suggest that Whiterabbit have a separate page on which to post his reviews; why? This would not in any way benefit the readers of this page, it works for Bladed Thoth because of the site advertising his page with a link at the top, but I'm afraid I do not feel the same about Swan's. I have looked at Swan's self-decided upon page and fear that the number of views she now gets are in no way comparable to the amount that she was getting when on this page, the amount of her site's comments also reflect this. Although Swan evidently has personal promotion reasons for doing this I do not think that it is a good thing for anyone TO do. (Incidentally Swan, I apologise for such a negative review of your site but it is incredibly hard to navigate, I cannot access even one of your reviews).
Moreover, do visitors of this site actually WANT to have to click on separate links to get taken to commenter's own pages? As I say, Bladed Thoth's works well as a one-off and the fact that he is associated with GOTD, I think others trying to emulate that will possibly have less success as those wanting to read comments (as with any webpage's content) will want to stay on that page and not be taken to external sites - it is just too fussy and time-consuming for the visitor. I also cannot see GOTD wanting this to happen with other reviewers due to losing traffic to other sites; one of the rules of sites is to keep your traffic on your own page for as long as possible, often when they've gone, they've gone!
I would ask Whiterabbit not to create an external site, although I unfortunately no longer can post reviews every day I do try to most days come to the site and I find Whiterabbit's the most useful, well written and unbiased and I for one would not want to have to start clicking on individual links to read them. Hope the hospital appointment went well by the way WR.

Hey Whiterabbit aka Stephen:
Just as a counterpoint, I always look for and read your reviews. All too often a manufacturer's reviews are insufficient and/or inadequate, if not overly optimistic about the enjoyment factor of their games. Your posts always help me get a more realistic idea of a game's true "playability". Thanks for taking the time and effort to help others understand what actually playing these games is really like. BTW, good luck with those tests today, I hope their results are in your favor! I know what living on morphine is like, so I understand what you must go through just to focus and produce your excellent reviews. Let us know how you're doing, we're all on your side! MPAgent.
