Suggestions:
Whether you like or dislike Lost Treasures of El Dorado please give some feedback about your opinion of the game, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality?Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free.

If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE. Or if you prefer you can get it from Big Fish Games HERE, it's on sale at the moment for $2.99

The Game:

“Three-in-a-row” casual game fans have no shortage of downloadable puzzlers to click through, some not so great, others fantastic. Lost Treasures of El Dorado lies somewhere in the middle.

It’s an enjoyable game with a fun Indiana Jones-inspired story, but a very similar game launched a couple of weeks back, Heroes of Hellas, outshines Lost Treasures of El Dorado in virtually all respects.

Donning an Indiana Jones-like fedora, you’re summoned in Egypt to help find a missing woman, Alicia, who disappeared after following a newly uncovered artifact. You graciously accept the mission and whisk off to New York City to learn more about this relic, and then you’re off to France, then England, and many other destinations as you work to unravel the mystery.

In terms of gameplay, however, it’s basically the same as Heroes of Hellas: gamers see a unique-shaped grid that resembles a beehive as it’s made up of hexagons (six-sided objects). Inside each of these connected hexagons are colored items – such as red pearls, golden lion faces, pink hands, white flowers, blue gems, and so on – and you must click and hold the mouse over one of these items and move the mouse through the grid so that it connects with at least three identical adjacent shapes. When you let go of the mouse, the connected items disappear, making room for new ones that cascade down the screen.

help 01
hints 7
level 3-3
In order to clear the level, you must destroy the gold plates behind some or all of these hexagons. You do this by successfully making these chains with at least three of the same items. In the Adventure mode, this must be completed within a predetermined time or else you must repeat the level, while the Relaxed mode removes the clock altogether.

Power-ups also appear on the board, such as exploding items that removes nearby objects or an hourglass that adds some time to your game. Some items must be brought to the bottom of the board (by making chains underneath the power-up), so it be added to your inventory to be used when you need it, including a pickaxe that can be used to break one item if you need the help.

Just as there are power-ups, there are obstacles, such as stones you need to break by making chains beside it or frozen hexagons that need to be used in a chain to break.

Players can earn Trophies to be viewed at any time from the main screen. Examples of these include a trophy for a 3x long chain with more than 10 items or for making a 10x combo or for making a 20 chain string (eye of the beholder) and for attaining 250 000 points (Warrior of Light) and even one for managing to complete a level within the last 10 seconds of the timer running out. Of course, you can also play the game with the untimed mode if you find the timed levels too stressful. By the time I got to the end of the second stage (Paris) I'd lost a life and by Level 3-4 (London I'd lost all three lives and the game ended. However, on restarting the level you can start from the beginning of the level you lost, but you will still only have zero lives left. You can select from three difficulty levels. I played on the second hardest mode.

hints 8
hints 9 - time bonus
lost-treasures-of-el-dorado_640x480_screenshot_2
Every few levels is a short “Concentration”-like memory game where you must click on face-down cards to reveal the item shown underneath, but unless you match a pair, they flip back face down. You start off with four cards, and then will see eight as you travel around the world the end level on each map progressivley gets harder with more cards to memorise.

While Lost Treasures of El Dorado is fun – working your way through the puzzles and seeing a comic strip like story to introduce the next location – but when it comes to gameplay it’s virtually identical to Heroes of Hellas, which has a more intriguing Greek mythology theme, better graphics, better mini-games and other goodies like mythology info and the ability to create wallpaper with your solved puzzles.

Another minor issue with Lost Treasures of El Dorado is the mouse isn’t always responsive; often at the beginning of the level I found I had to click a couple of times to perform a move that should only require one click, but it didn’t detract from the game. Overall, this game is a good but not great 3-in-a-row puzzler, though it’s at least worth downloading to play the free trial.

if you want to see some game play you can see some videos of game play HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. You can also see a slideshow of over 100 images HERE. I accidentally uploaded most of them twice, so you'll see a lot of repeats. It was taking so long to upload approx 65 images, I thought it had completed so clicked on slideshow to get the link for the review only to find the uploads hadn't completed. So i just uploaded the whole lot again. If i have time later i'll delete the duplicates. It's time consuming when you're using the free version of photo bucket.

Conclusion:
Despite being almost 10 years old, created in 2007, this is a very decent match three game, which, if played on the hardest mode in the Adventure mode (timed, can be extremely hard to not lose most, if not all of your lives. I actually lost all by level 3-5 and wasn't even on the hardest level. Well worth getting if you are an afecinado of match threes. Even if you aren't, this is one of the better quality match threes created before we saw rpg influenced match threes (my favortite type of match 3 for example Puzzle Quest 1 and 2, Puzzle Quest: Galaxtrix , Puzzle Kingdoms and Puzzle Chronicles, (all available via Steam and probably Big fish Games).

I like it! This type is always challenging. The lesser flexible of connect matching, along with the odd board shapes, make these some of the most challenging types of matching games.

I too have gotten stuck at level 3-5, WR, and matching is my game of choice. :P

The music is a little Indiana Jones overbaked at the beginning, then repetitious mildly egyptian/mayan mysterious, but turned down low it's innocuous enough.

The diary entries drift away from the Alicia mystery some and become filler. Oh well.

I don't fuss much about the graphics. I only compliment when they're unique. The gameboards are attractive enough, the story is just background, so I'm never too critical on that score.

A worthy entry. Thanks Dayterium (the original developer) Big Fish, MPC, and GGOTD!

Thank you for your feedback, appreciated. I think MPC may now own the rights to this game. They did (and possibly still do) purchase the licenses of older games. Saves them having to pay the developer a portion of the money they make when community members play the game (unless they cheat the system and delete the files that cause redirection to MPC)

A bright and cheerful little game, not too difficult so far, with a story that develops between rounds. Just remember that there are several ways of playing Match Threes, and if the one you're attempting won't work - try one of the others!

Once I'd woken up a bit and discovered that fact, I had no problems . . .

Thanks again for a nice little way of filling a tea break.

I have downloaded this 3 times and each time they were "corrupted". Nice try GOTD. This is the last time i come here.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thousands of community members have downloaded from here with no problems; have you considered the problem is at your end? Because the game giveaway uses a Themida based wrapper to protect the executable from hackers, some security software will block the installation. This can result in the message you have received. If you temporarily turn off your security you will be able to install the game. The game giveaway has been operating since Dec 2006 and has never goven away a game infected with malware, so it should be safe to temporarily turn off your security.

Hi Fed Up. :-)

Users reported problems with these antiviruses, in past months/years: Avast, Avg, Comodo, Kaspersky, Norton/Symantec, pados.hu TinyWall.

(Should SecureAPlus Premium be inserted in the list?)

If you have one of those AV, you could try these possible solutions:
1) After you downloaded the package, put the setup.exe in the whitelist of your antivirus (this in case the package has been correctly downloaded)
2) disable the real-time/on-access scanning, just the time to download/install the software (then re-enable that function)
3) disable your AV completely, just the time to download/install the software (then re-enable it)
4) boot windows in safe mode with networking, just the time to download/install the software (sometimes this is necessary with kaspersky antivirus)

Hope this helps.

Looks like it may be a cool game but the mouse pointer is nowhere to be found. Installed twice to make sure it wasnt a faulty install the first time. Now what?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Ron Ruth, I had exactly the same problem. You need to change the mouse to standard mouse pointer. I struggled to get to the main menu initially. I think it may have something to do with the age of the game and modern monitors. You could try temporarily changing the screen resolution to see if the mouse pointer appears at a lower resolution, then if it does, change the mouse pointer to the standard pointer, then put your monitor resolution back to your usual resolution. I didn't think to try that at first, so by trial and error I managed to get to the main menu by randomly clicking on the screen. Once I got to the main menu I did the same to get to options then i had to again do the same until I managed to uncheck one of the red ticks for mouse pointer and also i needed to go to windowed so that i could get screen captures easily for the review. It may be you can only play the game in windowed mode with a modern monitor. I didn't try all combinations due to time contraints.

Same thing happened to me. No mouse pointer on Click here to start or entering player name. Setup in game is for custom cursor
On my touch screen HP Win 8 laptop, was playable, but only got to 1-1 as wasn't accepting touches of the full strings so often would have to reselect or once selected couldn't explode them.

Hi,
Downloaded quickly and opened easily. Have only just started playing. Game play is fast. Graphics are good. I did switch to a regular cursor because of the drag. It is typical of tile matching games, and have not played far enough to see if any changes yet. great game if enjoy tile matches. Thanks for another good game and have a great week!

I have installed the game, seemingly satisfactorily, but when I leave the game and re-open it later I find that my data has not been saved. Does anyone know how to save the current game status, please?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Emperor, that's odd. I've checked the game I played this morning. played it using two different names to see how timed and un-timed worked. One I'd got to level 3-5 and the other to level 1-4, both opened up to the same levels when I restarted. You didn't accidentally click on start a new game instead of continue previous game? That would wipe your saves. Otherwise I can't explain why it's not saving.

Maybe your security is deleting the saves, or if you've run a registry cleaner since playing, that may have deleted any reference in the registry. I'm only making suggestions. Check the FAQ's thread over in the Game discussion sticky section over in the forums. I've linked to it in my review at the top of these comments.
Also check the reply I made to Crocus's comment below

Thanks for the suggestions, WR. There wasn't any problem with the screen resolution and the option to continue a saved game was not presented. I had initially started playing as myself rather than as an administrator. When I started playing with admin rights it started saving my position. Not a perfect solution but it seems to be working so far. I don't usually have to play with admin rights.

I enjoyed it so far. I played about 15 minutes and got through the entire first level and into the second where I suddenly started losing lives. When you quit it saves your position but doesn't tell you it did so. The music gets repetitious after a while. It's a keeper but maybe not at $10

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

It used to be $19.99 when it was first released as did most arcade games pre 2008. when we went into the mini depression in 2008, the prices of arcade games crashed significantly and have never recovered. The game is still sold via places like Big Fish, where it's on sale for only $2.99 at the moment. In fact you'll probably see it and most of the older games advertised as on sale virtually permanently, with the inflated price showing as a great saving if you purchase it while it's on sale.

Dommage, il faut recommencer chaque fois a zéro, après avoir quitter le jeu . Ne garde pas le score. Donc c'est sans intérêt.
Google trad:
Too bad, you have to start each time to zero after leaving the game. Do not keep score. So it's no interest.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Crocus, that's not the case for the game I've installed. I checked earlier and the game opened to the beginning of the level i left it at i.e. 3-4 and a second account in my daughters name on level 1-4. There may be a conflict that's causing the problem, or maybe you accidentqlly clicked the wrong button when re starting the game, i.e. started a new game instead of continuing with the old. As this has happened to a couple of other community members I'm wondering whether the screen resolution has something to do with it coupled with the collision mesh. This is almost a decade old. It may be that even though you clicked on the continue button, if the collision mesh has shifted due to your monitor maybe not being native to the game, in actual fact you clicked the start a new game without realizing it (due to the collision mesh for each button shifting due to the unnatural resolution {for the game}). try clicking above the button to see if it works.

Well, I downloaded this today, 11-6-16 and proceeded to install it. But, when I tried, it told me the time to activate was over! Yet, it is only 9 a.m., in the morning! What gives? Especially since I just received it, in my email, this morning!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

That is strange. I've just installed it to another of my computers and had no problems activating it. It may be something conflicting with the installation, maybe your clock is wrong. Depending on how old your computer is, the button cell that powers the clock and other off power requirements may be depleted and causing your clock to run slow. No one else has reported this problem. also check to see if your security is blocking the installation.

I tried downloading it again. This time it was okay. Weird! Thank you for these programs. For, when I try to get games, directly from "My Play City," they don't work. I think they try to install other things, onto my computer, which won't work and I believe is the reason.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi Marivan, I should have read all of the comments before replying to your last comment. Glad you got it sorted. If you install the game via the giveaway file all the check-boxes that would install things are deactivated so there's no chance anything but the game and the innocuous shortcuts installed. The shortcuts can be deleted safely with no effect on the game. That is the three that you don't need. If MPC allowed their programs to install stuff without the community member giving permission, they would soon lose most of their fan base. One of the reasons MPC is so successful is becasue they can be trusted to give a decent game with no hidden extra's. :)

As usual it installed fine on my Windows 10 Home 64bit Insider Preview. Seems BFG has officially partenered with MPC on GGOTD for their games which I personally don't mind (actually a smart move from both companies, get both names out in one giveaway). So I have to delete 2 or 3 desktop links.. big fish...uh deal. that takes me 1 sc.
My only "problem" with games like this is that we live in 2016 and many if not most of us will run widescreens and many if not most of these games are not updated to cater for this. Had no problem switching bac and forth between full and windowed. As often is the case with these games I will play it for a while just to forget I have it and find it back one day when I am really really really bored (wich hardly ever happens)

Thanks GGOTD, MPC and BFG, always a pleasure to see them games as I am always sure I will have no issues installing and playing them

Mavadelo, You mean on Steam? yes I did, unfortunately lately Steam is acting up on me and whenever I try to reply while browsing the forums there it starts freezing on me and I have to restart losing all but the last comment posted. I have the same with Steam Boradcast that keeps giving me "loading" without actually loading anything and forum sections that suddenly can't be found out of the blue (TS pages seem notorious for this somehow for me) but one thing I do remember is and will answer here is "yes we definately need to TeamSpeak soon again :D

The game looks like a lot of fun and the download and install was fine on my Win10 home premium but I cannot get it to go into full screen mode and I just can't play games without it.

Whenever I click the box to choose Full Screen, the game window vanishes and then reappears a few seconds later. Is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions? I've never had this issue before.

Thanks.

I had the opposite problem initially. I always put giveaways into windowed mode as it facilitates screen capturing. *though I prefer full screen). when the game first booted up, I couldn't click on anything becasue the mouse was invisible. I had to by trial and error move to the main menu screen, which took me several minutes. Then I had to open up options and found trying to change the mouse pointer or put it into windowed mode was nigh on impossible. I tried clicking everywhere. Only the audio sliders seemed to react. Again it took me several minutes, but I managed to finally get it in windowed mode at which point the mouse pointer appeared and all was well. From that experience I would say the problem has something to do with the resolution you have your monitor set at. today's giveaway is almost a decade old. If you are using a fairly new monitor, it's likely the resolution isn't native to this game. You'd have to either play it in windowed mode or change the resolution of your monitor temporarily.

jbdean,

I switched to windowed mode and then couldn't get back to full screen. Closing the game and opening it up again solved the problem. :-)

Marcy, Thanks Marcy but that didn't work.

Moderator, It's not the resolution because I can click anywhere with no issues, even very close to the box for full sized mode but the second I click in that dang box, the game vanishes and then reappears. It's a glitch in the game. Maybe I can reach out to MyPlayCity to see if they can fix it. Thanks for the help. I'll try rebooting my system to see if that fixes it and then, if not, i'll reach out to MYC.

Okay, sorry I couldn't help. Quite a few community members including myself have had problems with today's giveaway. I managed to get it to windowed mode by trial and error. When I put it back to full screen the mouse disappeared again. As much a sI enjoyed playing this one, i doubt I'll bother again as i don't particularly like playing in windowed mode plus as I mentioned previously, I have hundreds of match three's. This is one of the better ones, but I'll just have to forgo the pleasure.

Easy download but I had to disable virus software to get it to install. Good game to play when you really don't want to do much thinking. :-)

Can't open the setup file - message from Win10 says "A required priviledge is not held by the client" First time I've seen this. Any ideas how to fix it?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I kept getting the same message after upgrading my motherboard several months ago. transpires it was one of the free security programs I'd installed that was given away via either the giveaway site, Failmid or Bitsdujour. I'm not sure which now because I deleted it after discovering it was blocking virtually everything. I'd actually forgotten I'd installed it and apart from an entry in the mouse right button drop down menu, never saw any other indication (apart from the actual blocking), but it never said what was blocking it, just that message "A required privilege is not held by the client". I couldn't figure it out and initially thought it was something to do with my Win 10 installation. Previously I'd always thought if you change certain hardware on your computer namely the motherboard or C.P.U. you would have to re-register your copy of Windows. As I'd not made a copy of the registration code from the free version of Win 10 (this occurred just after the end of August when Win 10 was no longer given away. Anyway, I ended up contacting Microsoft's help line and a technician gained access to my desktop. It took him less than 30 seconds to figure out what the culprit was. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the program, but it would be worth checking to see if you have anything resembling a security program via your drop down menu when right clicking on executable's. Failing that, it's most likely to be another conflict, probably your main security suite.

Pat,

Good time for everyone to log into Belarc and print out a complete picture of your system including any key's for programs you might have installed. Then sock it away until needed. :-)

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Thanks for the heads up on Belarc, never heard of it before. Just downloaded and ran it. Now I have a copy of all of those activation codes I couldn't be bothered recording. Couldn't believe how much stuff had been installed, though I'm not surprised as I do have several hard drives installed amounting to around 16TB and most are almost full, (mainly with games, some of which are upwards of 30GB in size or greater. For example my copy of Train Simulator 2017 (originally called Railworks) is almost 160GB in size as I have most of the dlc content for that game . . :)

Thank you! It was the SecureAPlus white list that was blocking setup.
Belarc Advisor is brilliant!

Yes, that is the program that was causing me problems as well. I didn't realize I still had it active until the Microsoft guy told me.

Thanks for the tip on Belarc Advisor. I just used it, and the system info was good, but only a few of my licenses came up. I did pause my security before running this, so I doubt anything was blocked. Any ideas why on many licenses did not appear (though the software titles did, for the most part)?

I got loads of registration codes, but on closer inspection a lot were missing. I suspect there is a particular algorithm that the developer used to search out known positions of some software. We were given a particular software several years ago that backed up registration details of software. At the time it was quite limited. I contacted the developer and he asked for registry executables so that he could set up the program to find more activation codes. I used a particular computer for all the giveaways, so created an executable of each hive and sent them on to him. he gave me a copy of the updated program and it had definitely improved significantly after he had located the positions the activation codes were stored in the registry. Most tend to be in a specific hive and in a certain section of that hive, so it was relatively easy to search out those and code the program to copy them when the updated program was run. I suspect Belarc Advisor used similar coding to search out programs. Until the developer has been given the positions in the registry of those codes for software that doesn't show the activation code they won't be shown (obviously). Still i'm really pleased with the program (Belarc)

No Match 3 Game can beet "Around the World in 80 days" a very decent game in any manner!

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Yes, Around the world in 80 days is amongst my top 25 favorite match three's. It's actually quite hard to pick a top 25 because there are over a thousand match three games available and I've only played around 250 of them, so I'm sure there are more that I'd probably think are better than the ones listed below. Some are old favorites like the Luxor, Zuma and Montezuma series and I'm sure i've missed a couple that I can't remember the names of:

4 Elements, Atlantis Quest, The Rise of Atlantis, Azteca, Farmscapes, Jewel Quest III, Hidden Wonders of the depth, Heroes of Hellas 3: Athens, Fishdom: Spooky Splash, Finding Doggy, Rainbow Web 3, Sky Bubbles Deluxe, The Lost Inca Prophecy, Zzed, Sproink, Puzzle Quest, Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife, Luxor Evolved, Luxor 3, Zuma Deluxe, The Treasures of Montezuma 1 & 5 and of course Around the World in 80 Days; and, thanks to Sieska for reminding me, Big Kahuna Reef. I'm sure some of the above will also be on many of the giveaway communities favorites list, but I'm also sure many aren't. Some are not strictly match three games like Zzed (a combination of match three and pool, set in space as a garbage collector, and Sproink, which is similar to a bubble popping game, but instead you have crystals in a cave system, where you are tying to save the sproinklings, however both games still rely on matching a minimum of three of the same color, so I still consider them match three's. :) More match threes are coming to mind; I'd better stop before I fill the page with my ramblings.

joji,
I have played Around the World in 80 Days for a longtime but kept dying I believe in China :-( . I seemed to have finally deleted it as I was running out of hard drive on my xp laptop.

You can always get it free via MyPlayCity. Who knows, with it being mentioned several times today, we may even see it in the not too distant future (again)

As a match 3 aficionado, I would also recommend one given away here a few years ago for something different. Jewel Craft. This is the type that requires rotation of blocks to make matches, much like rotating a Rubik's Cube. And you have a limited number of moves in each level to make the required amount of different types of gems to encrust the decorative piece your trying to make. Quite challenging. The one match 3 given away here that completely threw me, in the sense that I haven't been able to master it all, is one called Experiment, with a spooky "your trapped as a secret mad scientist or organization's lab rat, and you have to complete the puzzles to escape" motif.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

I'd completely forgotten that one. Will have to see if I've still got it installed.
