Long ago, the people who bowed before the ancient gods became careless and they forgot about them. They stopped visiting the temples and saying their prayers.

The ancient gods flew into a fury and decided to punish them. However one of the gods felt sorry for the people and wanted to help them avoid their punishment. He can't involve himself personally in mortal affairs, so it's up to you to support him and restore the dilapidated temples.

The Game:
Review 1:
Do you like mahjong? Like... a lot? Then with nearly a thousand levels, Legendary Mahjong is fluttering its handkerchief coyly your way. Angry about being forgotten, the gods have set out to punish humankind, but luckily the "God of Unbridled Happiness" is going to help you restore their temples and avoid their sullen wrath. Legendary Mahjong is low on bells and whistles, but full to bursting with simply satisfying levels, different game modes, special tiles and more that will keep you busy for a long time.
Legendary MahjongThe basics of mahjong are very, well, basic. The goal is to remove all the tiles from the playing field by clicking two identical tiles, though some tiles, like flowers, can be matched even if they aren't identical as long as they come from the same "family". Because mahjong tiles are stacked, you can only remove a tile as long as it isn't obstructed... if there's something blocking it from sliding out to the left or right, or something stacked on top, you can't use it. Legendary Mahjong keeps this same formula, with a few user-friendly mechanics to make it a little more forgiving. You can click the last set you matched at the bottom of the screen to undo moves, or use the shuffle button to swap all the pieces around randomly, though these aren't available on all levels, and others have special requirements.
The level is won when you match the two glowing green orb tiles, but to get a perfect three-star rating, you'll need to clear the board. The counter to the left shows you how many available matches you have, and if you don't want to resort to shuffling, you'll plan your moves to clear space in the most efficient way possible, because there are often multiple matches of the same sets of tiles. Things get trickier when specific tiles are tossed into the mix, like Lock Tiles, whose key you need to find to remove, and each temple you visit has its own set of rules. The Fire Temple is traditional, for example, though the Earth Temple will have you matching tiles in a specific order.

While Legendary Mahjong doesn't really offer a lot of frills, there's a lot to be said for a game that knows exactly how to do its core concept, and then tips a massive bowl of it onto your plate, saying, "Eat and be sated". Die-hard traditionalists may find the extra elements more gimmicky if all they want is ye olde school-e mahjong, but there's so much of it that you'll still find a lot to enjoy, and the game doesn't require you to finish all of a temple before unlocking the next one. Truth be told, most of the special tiles and modes do feel sort of tacked on, but it's not as if we aren't spoiled for choice. The presentation is simple, but polished, though the in-level soundtrack tends to vanish from time to time. If you're looking for a puzzle game with a lot of twists around one core formula and enough levels to glut yourself on for days, Legendary Mahjong is an easy recommendation. It's guaranteed to keep casual mahjong fans happy if not slightly unnerved by the dead-eyed, glittering stare of "the God of Unbridled Happiness". Isn't that something Trilby should be handling?

Review 2:
With Legendary Mahjong you get exactly what its title tells you, a legendary game that has so much to offer, starting with the different types of game for you to enjoy, each with its own rules and fun strategies. Not limited to this, you may also play over 300 plus levels in its classic mode, from where you get to customize your layout and tiles of choice -- to suit what you want to do whenever you want and there is a lot to keep you entertained in this brilliant game.
At the onset, you get to start with a host of choices as to what style of game you can try. Mainly though, it showcases its Adventure mode predominantly, bragging 500 levels to scour through the entire game. Ultimately, the goal is to restore 6 ancient temples to appease the Gods – from where you get the sections of a challenge from each temple there are in the game. After 4 levels are played, another temple is unlocked, so you can unlock all the temples and play whatever mode you want, without having to finish all the boards in each temple. With 6 different game modes to play through, everything adds up to the huge amount of variety and fun to whole game.
Varieties of play include the Classic mode where you get the usual pairing challenge from the typical mahjong game, the Match mode where tiles are shown at the bottom of the screen and tasks you to make matches with them (over the cluster on deck), the Slide mode, where you slide the tiles to reach to their conclusive pairs, the Numbers mode where you get to match numbered tiles to the sum given, the Triple mode where you get to match tiles that are three of a kind, and the Rivers mode where you make matches by line linking. Each of which gives off a short sequenced tutorials to get you properly backed up with each of the new variation’s unique mechanics.

There is a really nice feel to Legendary Mahjong when you play it. Presentation wise, the game comes with 14 varieties of tiles which themselves gets a unique detail on their own. There is simplicity to the way you play which is refreshing and it keeps you going, especially that it enlists varied mechanics to get you the many ways you can randomize the challenge. The overall look is good, with its simple styling and easy to understand navigation. The games themselves are a lot of fun to play and you can try them all for a free hour of trial, prior to actual purchase.
Overall there is a lot of variety to the game, and these different styles can be both really challenging and a lot of fun at the same time. All in all, the game sees to it that it will keep you entertained for a long time, especially with the varied types of play, and massive number of levels it has to offer.

You can see Big Fish community reviews of Legendary Mahjong HERE and several in-game videos of game play HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.
Conclusion:
If you like solitaire versions of Mahjong, you'll almost certainly like this one. With a thousand boards, Legendary Mahjong should keep you going for several weeks. The boards are varied with both Mahjong styled tiles and other tile patterns including numbers. It's an excellent family oriented board game though not true Mahjong which is usually played in a group of four players. (I love the four player game much preferring it to chess). That said, this solitaire game using Mahjong tiles (and others) and a pleasant graphic style is still a very enjoyable game and well worth an 8 out of 10 for game play from me. :)

Problems getting the game to work:
If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Legendary Mahjong to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try whitelisting the setup.gcd file. In the almost 11 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, you have a game to offer the community, or are unable to download the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve you can do so HERE
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Legendary Mahjong and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

Hi,
It downloaded easy and opened quickly. The intro was the usual and graphics are okay. To be honest the temples are blah! It started off with matching tiles and then went to matching their selection against, which was very simple, thus boring! I'm sure it must pick up and become more interesting, but haven't progressed to that point yet.
I think its a good beginning matching game for younger people. Thanks for another good game!
Have a great weekend, Lee

The game itself is (so far) easy to play - though that blue compere is a little annoying! It's bright and colourful, and the images are clearly visible even to tired elderly eyes.

So I'll give it a thumbs up, and thank you! I know it isn't the true game as the purists say, but it's probably more manageable for us non-experts that way.

Having trouble getting this one running this time, (which is unusual, usually they all work just fine). The problem seems to be all the Internet connections the game insists on making when starting up, which is giving my firewall (ZoneAlarm) fits. Normally I'm able to just block the calls to the Internet and avoid all the stupid game site pages popping up all over, but this one just crashes if I don't let it phone home with whatever it's doing in the background.
I've tried everything with the exception of completely disabling the firewall and just letting the game do whatever it wants. Not sure if mahjong is worth it.

I have downloaded and tried to install 4 times but all I see is that it is activated and is nowhere to be found in the computer. Very frustrated, this is a game I would love to try

The gdc.setup file is protected by a Themida wrapper, which may b blocked by some security. sounds like that is the issue. Read the read me, it tells you to temporarily turn off your security. The giveaway team have been giving games away for over 11 years and have never given a game away with malware

Normally the Mahjong games are frustrating for me, I'm never fast enough to match the tiles. It's great that this game isn't timed at all, so even I can finish all the levels with 3 stars.

The 'classic' layout of the tiles are very clear and easy to distinguish. Later on in the game I'll try out all the other possibilities.

Legendary Mahjong is a keeper for me.

Thanks, terrific looking graphics. I've gotten bored on some less exciting looking sets in past. Like game itself but then those poorly done sets have caused me to quit. This version is tightly made and much enjoyable. Keeper.

I've not yet opened this up to start playing but by the sound of it I'll enjoy it. My go-to computer game is Freecell, followed by Mahjong Titans and Solitaire, so right up my street.

Thanks GOTD in anticipation. If I get chance to play before the download time is up I'll leave another comment.

I have spent many happy hours playing Mahjong solitaire, but this game is head and shoulders above the rest, with its unique and challenging levels. I want to thank MyPlayCity, GOTD and White Rabbit for giving us this game today. The only feedback I would give is -- when the curser hovers over the blue buttons at the bottom of the screen, it should indicate what that button is for.

This is not Mah Jong, this is a computer matching-tile game that uses Mah Jong tiles or any other tiles that can be paired. Mah Jong is a game for four players, each of whom has some tiles. It does not put all the tiles in the middle to start.

Not directly about the game, but games like this are often mislabeled 'Mahjong'; the 'match Mahjong' games (like this one) where you select matching Mahjong tiles is actually a type of game called 'Shanghai'.
