League of Mermaids
In Brief
League of Mermaids is a beautifully crafted bubble popping match three physics based game. One of the better match three games available and well worth downloading. I give it a 9.5 out of 10 for excellent game play, gorgeous graphics and lots of re-playability.

Suggestions:
Whether you like or dislike League of Mermaids please give some feedback about your opinion of today's game giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you.

Introduction:
The Sacred Treasures have been stolen and now the evil Kraken will rise up and destroy all the mermaid cities! Help the beautiful mermaids save their beloved homeland in a game League of Mermaids! It is a colorful Match 3 game. You need to help Cora, Mishell, Koh, and Marina return the Sacred Treasures. Will you cope with this task? At the beginning of the game you can use the tutorial. There is an excellent variety of levels so you shouldn't get bored. Drop a pearl from the top of the screen and match at least 3 pearls of the same color or depicting the same treasure. To earn 3 stars for the level complete the goals written at the screen bottom. You will get different goals at every level. The more pearls you match the more scores you get. But simply matching the pearls is not enough. In the game League of Mermaids you need to remember laws of physics as sometimes there are obstacles on the way between the pearl and the game field. Or the game field bottom can be uneven which will prevent pearls from matching. Every detail is important so be careful! And don’t forget that you are pressed for time. League of Mermaids is a very beautiful game with gorgeous graphics. Are you ready to save wonderful homeland of the mermaids?

If you have a problem installing or activating or getting League of Mermaids to work please visit the FAQ's thread HERE
The Game:
League of Mermaids is the sequel to the excellent Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep. League of Mermaids plays almost identically to its predecessor, which isn’t a bad thing if you enjoyed Pearls of the Deep (and chances are excellent that you did) which we were given four years ago HERE and which can be downloaded free 24/7 from Gametop or purchased from Steam (£4.99) or Big Fish Games (£7.70). If you like either of those games you may also like Deepica, which is available for free HERE
League of Mermaids is an enjoyable and addictive match-three puzzle game, but it has more than that going for it. Consider its name. Are there any three words you can put together that sound more epic than “League of Mermaids?” It makes you think of an underwater Justice League-style team that fights crime using robot sharks and razor-edged seashell bras.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The game feature a squadron of mermaids that team up when their rare treasures go missing. It’s a problem for two reasons. One, nobody likes it when their shiny things go AWOL. But more importantly, the treasures are what keep the mystical Kraken from waking up and laying waste to Atlantis. You need to recover the stolen goods by solving puzzle after puzzle.
Both games go beyond the standard match-three/bubble pop formula by making physics a major part of the gameplay and fr this reason, I've been playing it for several hours this evening (it's being given away tomorrow). i even purchased both games on Steam a si think both games are very enjoyable an well worth getting if you don't already have them. While you do need to match up three or more pearls to make them disappear, they don’t stick obediently wherever you drop them. The pearls are hard objects that bounce, roll, and generally resist touching unless they’re given the OK by the laws of physics.
Each game board is purposefully constructed to complicate matters. Some feature smooth, metal bowl-like structures that seem to keep the pearls in motion. Other levels are built with peg-like floors that hold fast to the pearls, making it hard for them to touch. As was the case in Pearls of the Deep, the boards in League of Mermaids are decorated with gates, windmills, and other obstacles that keep you from achieving your goal too easily.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Stars are awarded when you fill your Treasure Bar (which creeps up as you match baubles that have treasure in them), and when you beat a level under a time limit using a certain number of pearls. Getting three stars on a level can be incredibly tricky, but you need to grasp for every precious star if you want to unlock later levels—unless you’re OK with making an in-app purchase. You’re given the option to win extra stars daily by playing the game’s Zen mode, which is handy.
League of Mermaids features lovely underwater scenery as well as mellow music and sound effects. The baubles can be hard to see, but the game offers a welcome “colorblind mode” that should make life easier if you’re having trouble.
League of Mermaids wades in familiar waters, but it still manages to be as addictive and relaxing as its predecessor. There’s some panhandling for in-app purchases, but they’re out-of-the-way for the most part. Take the plunge and prove that mermaids are for everyone.

Conclusion:
League of Mermaids is a beautifully crafted match three bubble popping game with gorgeous graphics, lots of unusual power ups and a large selection of different levels that will keep you entranced for hours at a time. Each play through is different so there's masses of potential play throughs and in my opinion it's well worth getting the sister game Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep (free from Gametop) to complement the game. 9 out of 10 for a beautiful and interesting game.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away League of Mermaids and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

I enjoyed this game for it's different Match 3 challenge of getting the drop just right for the match to work. Each level was different, yet you are able to replay until you figure it out to get the max number of stars for the level.

The artwork is indeed beautiful.

This is one I will replay over and over. I've already played 2 Mermaid levels and am looking forward to completing the other 3.

How do you make it so that the program permanently stops putting the link to MyPlayCity.com on your desktop?

Hi Roger

There's no way to stop it from happening, all you can do is delete it once the game has been installed. There's no security issues with the shortcut, it's just an innocuous shortcut.
Tried to email you using the email you use to sign in, but my message was returned saying ''The address you sent your message to wasn't found at the destination domain''

Hi!
The game is similar to another you gave away awhile back. It downloaded and opened quickly.
I changed to regular cursor because of a slight tug in play. I have played through several layers and collected the charms/power ups. Play so far is pretty easy. I believe it weill get a bit boring as one continues playing unless it is made more interesting. I think it will become more challenging as levels increase. Thanks for another
good game and have a great week! Lee

Win10 64bit Home. Downloaded and play well. I didn't have to do any compatibility changes. I checked and the overide DPI was already checked. A great game and great for a time waster with a bit of skill. Not too crash on the music so turned it off. The ping ping when the balls dropped did get a little annoying but the sound can be turned down or off. Keeper.

I'm retiring early for the night. I will continue to moderate in the morning. If you have any issues installing today's game, it's likely to be your security software blocking the installation. The game is wrapped in a Themida coded wrapper, which some anti virus software's block becasue Themida code can also be used to hide malware. If this occurs there are three things you can try. the first is to reboot your computer in safe mode with networking, or white-list the giveaway files or finally temporarily turn off your security until the game has been installed. You could also download directly from MPC, but the adware hasn't been disabled in the MPC version. Oh yeah, there are vestiges of adware (which is low level) left behind in the giveaway version. If you are running an ad blocker, that also may block the installation.

This is a fun & challenging game that's a little off the beaten path. It definitely shows a "family resemblance" to its sibling, Atlantis - Pearls of the Deep, and they've added some nice touches to the new one.

There's one omission they never fixed: the 3 goals at the bottom right of the screen, once they're complete, no longer have a description when you hover the mouse. If you don't check it when you start, or wonder later what goal you accidentally got, tough luck. Still, that's pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.

Thank you for a solid & enjoyable game, WR, MPC & BFG!

Not a type of game I play very often, because it is annoying me after a couple of levels. But this one is challenging to play, with balls which jump around through the arena. The graphics are also very nice.

Have a good week!

This is a bit annoying and isn't about this game, which I will need to go to MyPlayCity to get. Ad Blocker is turned off for this site. I have tried temporarily turning off Kaspersky and even clearing the cache and restarting. Ever since installing Windows 10 it comes up with "Set up files are corrupt". My wife has no problem downloading and installing the GOTD on her pc. Please email me if you have any other suggestions.

I had the very same issue last year, and whatever I tried I just couldn't get any giveaways to install. I eventually had a tech guy from Microsoft connect to my computer and he found the issue in less than a minute. I'd installed a background security program earlier in the year, but had then disabled it. however following an issue with my motherboard I'd had to change it (my daughter fried it, a graphics card and two of my memory sticks). Anyway, on rebooting the computer following the repair, it seems that background program, which I'd installed from one the the giveaways from the other side of the project around April May last year. I'm think it may have been one of the 'Sothink' programs we've been given previously, but cannot be sure. Basically the program had somehow been reactivated when I installed the new motherboard but, because there was no obvious indicator that it was running I'd not noticed. However, looking at the right mouse context menu, you could see that it was still present on my computer. The Tech guy disabled the program for me and I was able to download and install both apps and games from the giveaway project again. So, it may be you are running other security without realizing it, or it could be an ad blocker, . MPC games do contain low level ad code, which has been disabled, but some ad blockers may still pick it up and block the installation. It's almost certainly a conflict that is causing the issue. If it's neither of the suggestions I've made above, try turning off programs via the Task Manager, one at a time, then attempt installation after each background program has been turned off, to see if you can find which program is causing the conflict. Alternatively try turning off everything that isn't reuired en mass then see if the game installs, if it does, it conforms that one of the programs you have running is the culprit, then you'll have to find which one via the initial method I suggested. There are start up programs such as Game Booster, (which is free from Razer), that can help. with Game Booster, you can turn it on via a single mouse click and it automatically turns off any windows background program that isn't required to play a game; you can also configure it to turn off non windows programs as well. Then all can be turned back on en mass via another single mouse click. This helps to confirm that one of your programs is the culprit.

On running Setup.exe, an error pops up immediately saying "League of Mermaids has stopped running"

Running Windows 7 (64 bit)

Any advice for a correct installation?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi T Fells, there are a number of things you can try. The games exe file is wrapped in a Themida based code that protects the game from being ripped by hackers. Trouble is, Themida can also be used to hide malware, so some security programs block the installation. To install the game you can either reboot your computer in safe mode then install, white list the wrapper or temporarily turn off your security while you install the game. The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for the past 10 years (and for 18 months every day back in 2006 to 2008) and have never given away a game infected with malware. the giveaway team thoroughly check all files for download to ensure they are safe. They are highly regarded by the major search engines; if they allowed malware to be downloaded they would lose this standing. If you continue to have problems, you can also get today's game for free directly from Big fish Games. I've linked to it via my review above.

Thank you to the moderator! It took a while, but I figured out how to turn off the darn AVG antivirus and got it installed.

Love the game, but pretty disappointed that MyPlayCity has embeded adds at the start and forces open their web page after every time you play. Thought Giveaway was "add free" games and sad that it isn't any more.

Times are hard for game developers; considering arcade games used to cost $19.99 per game prior to the financial meltdown of 2008. Games are dirt cheap now by comparison, consequently many developers are no more, even the big AAA developers have been impacted significantly. Since this site started operating we've seen a massive increase in distributors selling off games dirt cheap, constant sales and indie bundles where you can get games for upwards of 95% off their current prices. Many games that now appear in these bundles have literally only been released a few weeks before they are featured in a bundle. As for the redirection of your browser to the MPC home page, that is to pay for the games. Every time a community member is directed to the MPC page they earn a little money, part of which is given to the developer for allowing their games to be given away. Virtually every game you can get from those free game sites are still commercial games that are still being sold via other distributors such as Gamehouse, Big Fish games and Steam (to name just a few. Sadly the gaming community are not willing to pay what many of the games being released are worth, at least compared to what they used to cost.

Quick download, easy install on Win7/64 laptop. This was a pleasant surprise. I'm not familiar with its predecessor (Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep) so I didn't know what to expect. But it is an engaging match 3/ball shooter with good graphics and gameplay. I really like the physics-based movement of the balls, which gives an interesting dimension to your strategy. I've just played the first few levels, but it's already getting challenging, and I expect that this will be a game I return to.

Thanks GGOTD, MPC, and as always, Whiterabbit

Downloaded installed quickly and easily Win10.

I'm really looking forward to playing this game because I had Pearls of the Deep on a previous computer which died. Unfortunately, though, family stuff means I can't play today but if this is indeed like its predecessor it'll withstand multiple replaying and give many hours of challenging gameplay. .

Thanks GGOTD.

Hello Stephen, and GGOTD, and thanks for the opportunity to try this game. For right now, I'm downloading the game, but I find that the green download link button which says "Download Now League of Mermaids" doesn't work, but reloads the page. However, I found that the little round button on the picture that says $9.99FREE Today works as the correct download link, which is: https://game.giveawayoftheday.com/league-of-mermaids/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium#

It may also be free over on Big fish at the moment.

'League of Mermaids' is free from Big Fish - I've just been for a look, and since I already have a BF membership I've downloaded it from there just to avoid the extra webpage pop-up on finishing the game. 'Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep' is also available from Big Fish - but NOT free. So if you want the matching set, you may be better going to Gametop for the freebie.

On my usual very brief intro test this looks a very interesting variant on the Match 3 game, with lovely graphics and a literal twist in the matching process. The music is also pleasant - had my sound on for once! - and a change from the frequent twangly stuff that I dislike and usually switch off from the start.

My only problem now is that my OH - with whom I share games, and in fact he plays them a lot more than I do - doesn't have BF . . . so I may have to download the thing again from here just to give him a shot!

Oh well . . . I'll have a look for the other one for both of us while I'm in the mood. Thanks once again for a good game, something just that little bit different to play with!

Thanks for confirming that it's free over on Big fish. I wasn't sure when I checked this morning. I was signed into my old account and thought it may be that it was showing free because I did purchase the game several years ago when it was first released. *I'll update my review to remove the uncertainty. :) Also, thanks for your feedback.

MaryLee, I just checked the free version on big fish games and discovered that it is not completely free. you need coins to unlock every chapter other than the first one. the version given away on here is the full version without the need to get coins. you can still earn the coins on the big fish games website version buy playing chapters and zen pearls. you can get 10 coins per day on zen pearls and a varying amount from each chapter. you get 45 coins for the completion of the first chapters tasks. 1 point per task per level.

Ah, thanks for the update Bobby. I'd alr3ady purchased the game when it was foirst released,; but I rarely play my BFG games now as i also have them on Steam. I've purchased many games more than once, sometimes several times when i'm giving them away to family and friends becasue I've always tried to support the developers. To me most of these games are dirt cheap compared to what i used to pay for a game back in the 1980's. The first computer game I ever purchased was a text adventure and not a very good one, yet it still cost me nearly £30 back in the mid 1980,s, £30 back then is equivalent to well over £200, so the price of for example today's game when not free is still unbelievably cheap compared to that awful game i bought back then (called The Island of Artuan).

My guru says there is no growth without change and challenge :) so although I haven't loved physics-based bubble poppers in the past, I grabbed this one this morning. D/l'd and installed fine on Win 8.1, chose my player and dove in. First few levels were easy, but soon barriers are in your way and you have to figure out where the bubbles will bounce. So far, I'm enjoying this one, but honestly, can't see getting lost in playing for long periods at a time as it gets old fast. So, like normal match 3s (which I do like), I will play this one for a few levels at a time while I intersperse with HOGs (hint, hint!). I like that there are many levels, so the playability will continue, I think, at least until I get stumped. This is definitely one of the better ones of this genre, so definitely thumbs up; thanks to all for expanding my consciousness :).

This is a well made match three game that is well worth downloading. The graphics are very good and you can replay the levels to get 3 stars like I tend to do to make it more challenging. Plays well on windows 10. Thank you MPC for offering the game today.
