I was rather excited about this game when I downloaded it, but it ended up being a bit boring. Basically you walk from one end of the map to the other to collect items, but there is not much challenge in it. It may be ok for a young kids, but for an adult, it gets boring pretty quick. I did get to a puzzle in the fireplace, which was kinda nice and a little bit of a challenge, but other than the sparse one here and there it is not enough to keep my interest.

Forgot to add: I was never asked to pay a toll when crossing bridges (had no use for all the money I gathered, so no boring slot machine plays - also: what for was the clover? and the hat? Never used those either!) and don't know why it said in the review that conditions changed in the middle of a quest - I didn't run into something like that. For me it was all quite straight forward... even a bit too straight.

Beautiful graphics and nice mini-games, puzzles sometimes even a bit too easy (but I won't complain about that, on the contrary, I hate it when I get stuck in a game).

"Needs more work" is a massive understatement. Even in windowed mode, with the walkthrough open beside it, it is unnavigable. Nice idea (sort of); poor execution (to the max). Back to the drawing board.

Installed and functioned smoothly with Window7... Uninstalled in less than 30 minutes due to frustration and lack of interest.

Thank you for putting free games on here. I downloaded and installed the game, Kingdom of Seven Seals. I opened the game to see if it worked last night and it did. So I closed the program. Now today I double clicked the icon and I get a system error saying the program can't start because libjpeg-8.dll is missing from your computer. When i looked at the files i see this file. why is that? I have checked through comments and found no similar problem. I understand that this is as is but thought id ask if it was a simple fix.
This game looked like it would be fun for me and my girls being its a Princess. I enjoy adventure games.

Sorry for the lack of help on Sundays game giveaway. I spent over 9 hours working on my new house. That left me in a lot of pain, plus i was exhausted, so slept most of the rest of the giveaway away. Only woke up several minutes before the end so wasn't able to help those that really needed it.

Very disappointed.Tried downloading earlier and it was taking way too long so decided to wait til later in the day when fewer people were downloading. Came back to the website where it said I still had 5 hours to download and install. Completed the download but when I went to install and activiate, I got a message that said the download/install time had expired. Checked back on the website, hit refresh and it still said I had more than 5 hours. What time zone determines the download window and why would I not be able to activate at 7:20 pm mst.

Sorry Montana /grndmom, don't know whatthat problem is. There has been around 10 thousand downloads for this game with few having your problem. I think it was probably one of the servers connecting your computer to the giveaway servers. Do you often get really slow downloads? If so it's most likely to be a server problem from your provider, or somewhere along the chain of servers that your connection has to route through to get to the giveaway servers.

The giveaway servers are notoriously slow due to the number of community members downloading at any one time. (but not that slow. As I've tried to explain previously (Mike did a very good job yesterday), the more users that download, the slower the download speed due to bandwidth restrictions. As thjeggiveaway project is a free project, the owners can only afford to pay so much for their download servers (compared to the likes of say apples iTunes, that makes millions every day.

Finished the game... should anyone want to have a easier time look for the .profile file it's a text document... once you've collected some gold look for the save value in the items section. You can replace that number with 999.

Sorry Kevin, was totally out of it yesterday.

If you use Firefox, you need to make sure internet explorer isn't set to ffline. If it is, it won't let the giveaway servers activate the game. If you don't have an I.E. icon installed, go to search and type in Internet Explorer. open it up then click on File, look to near the bottom of the drop down menu where it says work offline. Make sure that's left unchecked.

You can still register the game even tohugh the giveaway is over. at least for the next hour or so. (The time frame is variable)

Just had a quick look at the games, but a few observations:
1) it took a fair bit of time to download for the size
2) it installed nicely - did not insist on installing in its own folder
3)It would have been nice for the difficulty to be listed someplace other than under options. Lot of people would not think to look there. Difficulty should be relocated to the main page.
4)For a new game I am not too impressed with the graphics. In the 1st find the hidden objects it was very hard to tell what the different items were. This should really be cleaned up, it makes a bit of a mockery of the animations which are nicely done.
5) A bit more direction in game would be nice. You are told to find the sorceress but there are 3 glowing doors and they do not tell you that you cannot do anything with the ones on the sides. It would be nice if it at least said "This is locked" or "You cannot not go here right now"
6) Lastly it would be nice to pick-up things as you come across them nothing makes me quit a game faster than having to revisit the same place 10 times when I could see what I needed the 1st time I was there.

I had no issues installing under windows 64 bit ultimate.

I downloaded and gave it a try. To start with, the graphics are old enough that if you have a font setting higher than 100 (I have it set to 150%), then you need to set the compatibility property setting to ignore scaling for high DPI modes just to get past the setting of the name. It's hard to set the options or play the game if you can't see the "Option" or "Play" button. I knew there was a problem when that puppet was cut off at the waist!

It was just too cluncky and confusing from the start. I have other games that I know I enjoy so I removed it. Since it was just an extraction from a zip, there were no registry entrees to bother with -- just delete the game folder, the extraction of the downloaded zip and the zip itself -- all gone!

Hi AZER, you could try finding the game on a French site and downloading the demo. Install it to a different location to the giveaway location. Create a copy of the giveaway version then by trial and error mix and match the giveaway copy with the demo version (do one file at a time) to see if you can get the correct file that will allow you to play in the French language.

Look at the files in the demo version. It mayu be obvious which file to copy over.

Downloaded in about 10 - 15 minutes, installed and loaded quickly. Only if I want to open the book, change the tab in there or ask something it takes a moment to load.

Seems I am too stupid to find the turtle grandson so I will check now the walkthrough and then I will stop for now and play on another day.

Despite the review I decided to give it a try and first downloaded the walkthrough. Without it I could not play the game. It is more an adventurous game where you have to visit places a lot in order to get what you need to get any further in the game. I am so pleased there is a little map which shows you the locations you have to visit. I do not mind clicking and winding through the landscape and I enjoy the minigames. What I particularly like about the HOG is that you can click as often and as long as you wish and do not get any penalty for doing so. I really hate that, especially when there are darker spots where you cannot detect anything and the only way is clicking on them a lot. I also enjoy the colourful graphics. What I miss in the game is a list of all the tasks you have to accomplish. Some are listed, but I forgot what the giant wanted exactly and the only way to get that knowledge is going back to him. Why is not this in the book? The fairy is not a great help either. I must say without the walkthrough I do not know if I could have come this far. Anyway I am stuck. I am trying to ignite the cup with coal and music seal at the sorcerer's, but the flint does not work. It does in the walkthrough, but not in my game. So if anyone comes up with a solution, please post it here. I have a nasty feeling this is the end of the game for me. Such a shame, because I was enjoying it. I really hate it when I cannot finish a game. I just hope it is not a bug or something. Thanks anyway for a few hours of fun. Good luck with the house, Stephen.

Really sad, could be a "cute" game if the "help" bars were small enough to see more of the area you are trying to navigate. I had to download walkthru just to start the thing. I don't like it at all, I have and have played over 200 HOG games this one ranks on the bottom. It does work however, unlike some of the giveways I have downloaded.

Thank you for your feedback Terra. There has only ever been two game giveaways that I had trouble installing and running. The first one had a known problem on XP (this was pre vista), so many users had problems and the second one was fairly recently and that was resolved later in the day. I've downloaded virtually every game giveaway since they started giving games away back in December 2006 (apart from when i've been on vacation), plus a few when games were included in the giveaway project.

Most problems running game giveaways arise from conflicts on the users computer or other problems associated with the users computer and not the actual game.

I too am frustrated with this game and haven't got as far as those who've posted.The turtle wants to find her grandson who I can't find, have collected five diamonds and pots of money. The map seems to direct me to the mermaid who needs a ring which I can't find either. So am going to delete it before I get mad.

The walkthrough seems to have a part left out between when you visit the Druid and when you visit the Giant. The walkthrough also fails to tell you that somewhere after you visit the Giant you have to visit the turtle again.

Also, both the map and the walkthrough fail to tell you where places such as the place to find the four leaf clover or the vegetable garden, etc, are. Its very confusing and irritating to try to find places that aren't on the map.

Also confusing is after you've won the 5 diamonds, if you have to pay a robber gold, do you then have to return to the casino to get more gold? And if you start playing in the casino again, does it have any point where it tells you that you've won enough gold?

This is as far as I've gotten in the game so far. I wandered around looking for the place to find the four leaf clover (I forgot the name of it but its not on the map & the location isn't shown in the walkthrough either) or the vegetable garden (also not on the map & its location not shown in the walkthrough), I haven't found either yet. In looking for them, I crossed a bridge & gave a robber my gold, then returned to the casino to get more gold & after playing awhile and winning some gold (there's no way at all to tell progress in winning gold to pay robbers), I took a break to post this. I'll return to the game later, right now I'm sort of frustrated at it.

The las tthree weekends since getting my new house have been the most hectic I've had for several years. I've either been at the house helping with decorating or sleeping. I want to thank you for your honesty in the review. I was thinking of downloading it, but after hearing about the slot machine game, & the quests changing mid-quest, I decided I really don't need the frustration.

I really love HOGs and at first I was very happy to see that this weekend we were getting not one, but two of them. But, I think that for this game to be successful the developers need to take it back apart and redo quite a bit of it. When I first started the game, the one thing I noticed right away was how nice and colorful the graphics were. But, it soon became obvious that this game is not really a HOG, but rather a mixture of several different types of games. Even that would be OK with me, except that while the puzzles and match 3s themselves are not very complicated, getting to them is. I found myself wanting to just stay at the slot machine and win extra coins instead of having to come back several more times to the same place, and then when you do need to get the princess some place it is not just a matter of pointing to the place and clicking. You have to practically drag her there, and that not only takes time, but also gets old fast. I am going to let my kids give the game and see if they are interested in it, but if not then I will not be keeping this game. I do thank the developers and GGOTD for the opportunity to give it a try, but it is just too much work for so little fun!!!

I know I don't have the fastest computer around, but this game was painfully slow, I've never had a game go that slow. Took almost 1.5 hours to download, and trying to play was just too much to bear. It went "frame by frame" and when I clicked exit, it was more than 30 seconds before it ended. I was looking forward to another HOG but I deleted this one after the second attempt at playing. No problem with the installation (Windows 7)
The game can be played in windowed mode, which is a big plus for me.
Also the scenes for the hidden objects are colourful and nicely drawn, although this doesn't mean that everything is easy to find.

A minor point to me is that you have to walk from one scene to another, perform a task and walk back to the previous one.
Walking around is a bit of a pain, to move the princess wou really have to click, just moving the mouse is not enough. It takes quite some time to find your way as the paths are all narrow and windy. It makes the game a bit boring to me.

Installation:

Kingdom of Seven Seals downloads to a 192 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.

Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.

To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is 186 MB in size. and installs to the following path by default:


C:\Games\ KingdomofSevenSeals_game\kingdom.exe

The path can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files. There isn't a shortcut or uninstaller iinstalled to either the desktop opr Start menu programs list.

I've tested the game on a Win 7 and Win 8 systems and it works on both. I don't have a Vista or XP installation set up at the moment (and won't for several months until we move house later this year).

The Game:

Kingdom of Seven Seals puts you in the sparkling shoes of the spunky Princess Vita. When an evil witch imprisons her prince and enchants his entire kingdom, she's the only one who can save them. Kingdom of Seven Seals is more of an adventure than a hidden object game. While it does have occasional hidden object sequences, the focus is on talking to the kingdom's quirky characters and running various errands for them. Most of your time is spent looking at an overhead map of the land and moving Princess Vita around it with a mouse click. Objectives are indicated on the map by little glowing markers and houses that contain a characters with something for you to do are indicated with a big, yellow exclamation point. Once in a while you'll also solve a puzzle or play a match-three or marble popper minigame.

At first blush, Kingdom of Seven Seals promises to be a charming game. It's cute cartoon style full of rainbows and fairies accompanied by its lullabye-like musical score suggest a light-hearted and amusing gaming experience. Its colorful 2D environment art is expertly done and its characters are appealing and fun to look at. It sets out to make every objective clear both with obvious map markers and offers plenty of hints both from your onscreen fairy guide and inside your personal journal. The problem is, all these things are undermined by the game's split personality art direction and worse, by its clumsy and lazily-designed quests.

The game's problems are immediately apparent during the first half hour of play. The first thing you notice is the poorly done 3D artwork; it's simplistic and amateurish and looks even worse compared to the brilliantly executed 2D art. The second issue is that the game at first feels far too simple. Its overly linear quests and the repetitive way characters force you to run around fetching items makes it feel like it's meant for kids under the age of ten. Beyond that first half hour though, it's all too obvious that the game's beyond most young kids and many adults as well. And that's not because it's too clever—oh no! It's because it's filled to bursting with confusing objectives, illogical puzzle solutions and built-in tedium.



The main issue is lack of feedback. In the middle of a quest, conditions will change but you won't know it. Hints to these changes are vague or nonexistent and so you'll find yourself repeatedly revisiting the same locations, unable to figure out what to do next. Worse, early on in the game robbers take over the kingdom's bridges, which you must cross again and again and these robbers insist on being paid a toll. Princess Vita just may be the first fairy tale princess to go to Gambler's Anonymous because for some reason, she's penniless and has to frequent the local casinos to come up with this toll. This forces you to spend way too much time playing an extremely tedious slot machine minigame that becomes a complete bore the third or fourth time you've done it. Of course, perhaps the slot machine game is meant to be a metaphor for the game as a whole since it also is a chore to play.

Ultimately, Kingdom of Seven Seals is a lesson in failed potential. Rarely does a game simultaneously exhibit such visual expertise and ignorance, or have such gameplay simplicity coexist with such overcomplication. What might have been a charming, back-to-basics fairy tale of good triumphing over evil becomes an unmitigated exercise in utter frustration. Aside from being aesthetically disjointed and confusingly designed, the game is barely two hours long (though considering the quality of the experience, that might be considered a bit of good fortune). Unless they enjoy aggravation, hidden object fans and adventure gamers alike should do their best to steer clear of Kingdom of Seven Seals.

If you don't like the in game music, you should be able to exchange the music files which are located in a dat folder within the games installed folder. See the path below for details

I'm not sure whether there's 9 music themes, or some of the ogg files may be sound effects, so if you do decide to do some editing, I'd keep a copy of all of the original ogg files at leasat until you've tested and made sure the game still runs properly. Make sure that you rename all exchanged music files with the ones you are replacing, and also make sure you convert each file to the off format first. :)

If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.
