Thanks for the info re: error, Game Seeker. Unfortunately, that didn't fix it. :(

Any other suggestions? The error screen shows MANY items.

Game Seeker, thanks for the tip about unchecking the 3D acceleration. My newer computer has a good graphics card and everything works fine on it, but my old computer doesn't have a 3D graphics card so I can't play a lot of games on it. I thought this one might work, but like the other two people it kept crashing when I spelled a bonus word. I'll try your tip. Thanks again!

Re: #73 Roy L & #90 Sids:
Open the game, go into Options and uncheck 3D acceleration to shut it off, click OK. Close the game and then reopen it. Try spelling one of the words in the bottom and see if that corrects the problem.

Spelling one of the bonus words on the bottom starts 3D acceleration to create the exploding letters effect. If your graphics card does not have a 3D accelerator you will not get the exploding letters, instead it will crash the game and an error message will display. Graphics cards not meant specifically for gaming usually don't have 3D accelerators.

I have encountered the same problem as # 73 - As soon as one of the three ‘bonus’ words listed at the bottom of the screen is spelled, the game shuts down and a fatal error message is given. It happened more than twice with me, can someone suggest how to fix this problem.

Had to return and reply to #58's insuation about raising kids by proxy. We live deep in the Missouri woods, with trees so thing, we have to have sunshine trucked in ..well, almost...

Our hometown is so small, we do not even have a stoplight. There are very few activities for the kids, especially during the winter months. The young'ns here cannot go outdoors very often during the winter months. The past few weeks, for example, have been at or below freezing and included one major ice storm and several snow storms.

Weather permitting, I have the grandkids and a passel of their friends outdoors, exploring the Missouri River or one of the hundreds of local creeks and streams. We look for fossils (palentology lesson), admire unusual rock formations (geology lesson), pick wildflowers to take home and identify (a little biology) and watch the wild life, which includes everything from snakes and skunks to deer and bison. We go fishing, and every child has their own pole and tackle. We join the Missouri Stream Teams and clean up streams and rivers (an environmental lesson).

So, forgive us country folk if we happen to appreciate an activity to occupy, educate and entertain the house-bound, active young minds in our midst.

By the way, I am in complete agreement with you; parents should be treating child-rearing as a hands-on, 100% participation activity. Grandparents should be in on the fun, too!

Giveaway Team, thanks again for a wonderful gift. Meridian: good job on the software and graphics!

I downloaded...scanned w/ norton corporate...no virus found...Installed per instructions to the T...no virus found....My son and I played and had a blast...He's 6 and one of the first words he spelled was dinosaur...from there he was hooked...tomorrow he and i are going bike riding in the park...seems like everyone wants to complain about something. In our household we have a globe...several books...see my blog on book reviews...i think someone got their PANTALOONs in a bind without knowing reality. When it comes to education even school system use computer games. When someone makes the comment that this will help spelling or geography...it means they found one tool...I hope someone here doesn't keep only one screwdriver in their tool box and think they can fix everything...jeez what morons.

Re: #58 pantaloon: You seem to enjoy the idea of direct education rather than anyone sending you off to look things up yourself. So let's begin some direct education, shall we? :) You have a bit of a problem with misquoting. When phrases are enclosed in quotes it is called an ATTRIBUTION, which when properly done is exactly what someone else said.

This is what you attributed to others:

“This screensaver will teach my kids all about geography”
“This game will sure help with my six-year-old daughter’s spelling homework.”

However no other poster said either statement, those were solely YOUR words. Using your own words to convey what someone else said is called PARAPHRASING. However, it is never proper to attribute your own paraphrasing as direct quotes from others! That's known as MISREPRESENTATION.

Now the following are actually direct quotes:

"It’ll definitely help my kids with learning geography!"

"This may help my 6 year old daughter enjoy her spelling homework each week; I hope, and in a fun way too."

"Delightful spelling game that the grandkids will undoubtedly enjoy."

"Our children and grandchildren deserve every educational tool we can offer."

"My wife and family will love this."

"My son and I played this..."

"My son said, let’s try it and now we are glad we did."

"We homeschool so it’s both entertaining and educational."

"It is a game you can actually enjoy playing with them."

As you can see, the statements above clearly show a completely different meaning than your most unfortunate paraphrases. This is why we must never misrepresent our own paraphrasing as attributions. Hope you and your children enjoy playing today's word game together, as the posters above have clearly done already. Have a wonderful day!

Comment #58 Pantaloon; How you can make such a judgemental assumption that we "rely" on computers to raise our children from just a few comments is beyond me? Both my wife and I are teachers and work very hard to educate our children using a multitude of strategies. For example, they are taken on regular holidays, not sitting on the beach and sunning yourself type holidays, but informative and exciting holidays where they learn about different cultures and languages, exploring cave systems and volcanoes, taking trips in submarines and glass bottomed boats, watching dolphins and sharks, or developing skills such as skiing. My children, aged 6 and 8 are better skiers than me now. Each week my children go to a variety of clubs and sporting events such as cubs/rainbows, dance, gymnastics and swimming as well as music, art and language (French) lessons. Callum is learning to play the alto saxophone at the moment. They also regularly visit friends, all of which contribute towards educating my children, with the aim of developing well rounded personalities that will give them a good start in life. We have regular family gatherings where we communicate with distant relatives who live in Poland and Australia via one of the messenger services, we haven’t set up a web cam yet but intend to soon as the visuals will enhance the experience further. My children read every night, as well as contribute towards family discussions. We try to play board games on a regular basis to encourage group participation and the development of social skills. We prioritise homework before the children are allowed to watch TV or have some time on the computer for fun, which if used judiciously can be a very satisfying and useful way of learning, even when they are playing games. Would you really have your children learning to read, and or spell using only the "old fashioned" and flawed methods of yesteryear? Just check on the “www” for figures of adult illiteracy and innumeracy and you will see that there are an appalling number of adults (from pre computer times) who can't read, write or count properly. Using visual and audio cue’s, such as colour, sound and animation’s; as in the game offered today, together with the incentives the game has for achieving more complex words, makes for a much more powerful learning tool than more traditional methods of teaching.

I noted your comment over on the Giveaway site, in which you said that "the day you find your kids entranced by a screensaver is the day the computer goes out on the curb".............I could very well make some assumptions about your poor children with respect to that appalling comment, but I wont as I wouldn't be so presumptuous. You obviously have your children’s welfare at heart, which is one of the most important thing a parent could wish for; so unless you know for certain that children were just plonked in front of a monitor and allowed to do as they wished. I would suggest you keep those sorts of opinions to yourself, because they are out dated, judgemental, and down right rude.

Have you never been transfixed by something. My 8 year old son just so happens to have a flourishing interest in Astronomy. I've already bought him a refractive telescope, and we make a point of noting interesting astronomical events such as the total eclipse of the moon last week. He'd just completed a piece of homework about the planets and solar system when the solar system screensaver was given away several weeks ago and because he actually knew some of the information that was shown on the screen, he did become transfixed. Now what's so unusual about that? It shows a deep interest in what he was looking at, which can only be a good thing; in my professional opinion. By the way, my son has a reading age well above that of his peers and has been given a "statement" as a gifted child, which enables him to have ‘one to one’ teaching for specific lessons at school.

From a concerned parent who thinks computers are a very useful tool to educate their children.

I thought this was all about being glad that we get offered FREE games!

I (foolishly) did as recommended and ignored the many flags my AV sent up when I tried to install it. Then my system froze, and I rebooted. The system worked just fine until I opened the Keywords folder on the start menu, then it froze again. I had to reboot into safe mode to remove the program from my computer.

Janto2, you have to click the Activate key to activate this game. When you extract the files from the zipped folder, there is an Activate key, setup, and a readme. First, click the Activate, a window should pop up saying successfully activated, then the Gamegiveaway site usually comes up. Then you can click setup and install the game and your game will be a full version.
Sometimes the activation key is included in the setup, sometimes it's separate, and once in a while there is a registration code that you have to cut and paste. Each game is different.
This game is pretty good, the graphics remind me of Zuma Deluxe.
Thanks GOTD for another nice giveaway!

Great word game! Colorful graphics, good game play and nice sound track. Spelling certain common words makes sounds, like "dog" (barks), "cat" (meows), "pig" (snorts), "gong" (gongs), "cow" (moos), coin (coin drops), etc. Spelling "rain" makes the sound of rain and pours droplets down the screen. There's a "common words" directory in the game's folders that shows what words include sounds. Tried adding ogg files to that directory for more sounds on spelled words but it didn't work, guess it only works with the included ogg files.

To keep it interesting there's bonuses, award medals, a 'trophy room' and a map that progresses with each level completed. There's also three words to match, green tiles located right under where it says "Player Info" on the bottom right. Match any of those three for extra points, words are replaced as they are matched so there's always three. Supports multiple player profiles and games are saved by profile for finishing later. Options for changing sound and music volume, fullscreen or windowed, 3D acclereration on/off, custom cursor option.

People unable to run previous Robin games should be able to run this one, minimum 600 MHz as opposed to 1 GHz. Anyone still getting crashes, etc., try shutting the 3D acceleration off in Options.

Re: #29 Margie, & #49 Linda: Run activate.exe (double click on it) to get the full registered version. The file activate.exe is in the zip file downloaded from the site.

Re: #32 sk: readme.txt is in the zip file. There's three files there, activate.exe, readme.txt, and setup.exe

Re: #38 Ian: You can't get the mini golf game for free anymore. Games have to be activated within the 24 hrs. they are posted.

Re: #55 Vonnie: False positive, there's no trojan.

The screen shots don't do justice to the game. Much nicer...
Again for those haveing trouble activating the games & software. The games here ARE full versions with NO time limits if installed today. Un-zip, install and READ the 'readme.txt' file for instructions to complete the process. (Just another suggestion: Scan & read these fourms to see solutions that others have found.) All games & software provided by GOTD are tested to be safe from any spy/adware, viruses or trojans Etc.. You may on occasion get a "False-positive' from your anti-virus or firewall. Take note of the experience of others. Most people are successfully using this site. If others are NOT having problems, consider that the problem is yours and not GOTD....
"Thumbs-up" from me for todays game.

What a great disappointment to find a virus in this game! This is the kind of game I love best but once my system spotted the virus I cancelled the install and deleted all files. :-(

I thought all these games were supposed to be certified clean?

I am hesitant to buy the game from the developer since it looks like the virus comes from them.

While I have only good things to say about today's game, I can't help noticing a disturbing trend in the comments almost every day. That's the number of parents who seem to rely on computers to help raise their children. Both of today's giveaways are nice, but there are a lot of people saying things like "This screensaver will teach my kids all about geography" or "This game will sure help with my six-year-old daughter's spelling homework."
Here's a revolutionary idea: Instead of sitting around all day waiting like pigeons in the park for your daily hand-out, buy a board game and spend some time with your kids. Get a globe and help them with their geography. Sit down with them and actually show an interest! Computers are wonderful tools and completely necessary in today's world, and they can be a lot of fun, but I don't expect them to raise my kids any more than my parents expected television to raise theirs.
You can disagree all you want, but when your children are pasty-faced, atrophied parents themselves with the same utter disregard for spelling and grammar that is displayed in these comments sections, you'll think back on the days when you fobbed them off with a free game or dismissed them with "look it up on the internet."

I was hesistant to download this wordgame for once because the screenshots on the web page look a bit gloomy. One word game that we love, but that is not running good on XP is Lexicon. My son said, let's try it and now we are glad we did. It is great for working on his English spelling. If you have kids in school, go and download it. It is a game you can actually enjoy playing with them.

I cannot find the keycode to turn on most games. Where do I find it? Most of the games lately only have a 60 minute playtime. Am I downloading wrong or what???
