You can get the following Jewel quest games free via MyPlayCity: Jewel Quest I, Jewel Quest II, Jewel Quest III, Jewel Quest Heritage, Jewel Quest Mysteries: Curse of the Emerald Tear and Jewel Quest: Seven Seas. There's also a HOG in the series called Jewel Quest Mysteries: Trail of the Midnight Heart

Thanks for another free game. I downloaded, installed, played the first level with no problems. However, now I remember why I stopped playing Jewel Quest-you must wait until every match is done and all the jewels drop until you can make another move. This is truly annoying. it messes you up when you are trying to beat the timer. I'll probably not play it again.

....yes I don't trust your non-Steam games anymore GotD, you want me to disable AV and setup has WINDOWS XP KEY ICON, WHY!

Alot of viruses back in the day used that icon

The giveaway team had to introduce the Themida wrapper several years ago due to some community members ripping off the games exe files which were then put on peer to peer sites. Ths did ot go down well with some developers. Unfortunately Themida code can also be used to hide malware, which is why some security software tags the giveaway file as suspect. The giveaway team has been giving games away virtually every weekend and for the first couple of years every day since December 2006 and have NEVER given away a game that was infected with malware. If you don't wish to download any more on Steam games from here, that is your prerogative.

based,

"I don't trust your non-Steam games anymore"

bleepingcomputer[.]com/news/security/valve-patches-security-flaw-that-allows-installation-of-malware-via-steam-games/

Those have been fixed, but it's inevitable that there will be more -- may also be current exploits that are so far undetected. It's simply the nature of the beast considering how Steam works -- Not something that Steam does wrong.

GOTD OTOH uses a simple software wrapper -- nowhere near the risk. You Only have to disable your security software if you're using certain brands -- McAfee & Bitdefender for example both receive top rating at av-test[.]org, yet neither they, nor Microsoft's Security Essentials / Defender [& Microsoft spends billions on security software] triggers a false positive from the GOTD setup program.

Personally I have to ask if security software triggers on false positives like GOTD, what real risks is it missing, but that's me. :)

"Alot of viruses back in the day used that icon"

A Lot of viruses have, & continue to, make use of Windows. So I guess we should black list Windows too? Plenty of Mac & *nix fans have been saying that for years -- per your logic I guess they're right. :)

based, GGOTD has used that icon for years. They don't ask you to turn off your AV. That's up to you. Just telling you that some AVs stop it as a false positive. Their problem, not GGOTD's.

I love Jewel Quest - it's my favorite match-3 game. But this one does not deserve to belong to the Jewel Quest family. The boards are tiny, there is no benefit to matching 4 or 5 jewels at a time, and it's just plain boring. I am really disappointed because this is one of the few I haven't played yet, and I was really looking forward to it.

Could someone make a Drop Jewel Match Game with sound, like Tetris with pretty jewels. These side swipe match games get pretty boring.

A bit confused. The reviews speak of this as basically a match-3 "like all the others in the series". But I have two of its predecessors, and the ones I have are MAINLY HOGs with each "chapter" ending in a match3, where in addition to clearing the board, you also try to match coins for extra points while still trying to leave time on the clock for which you get points. But the HOGs are the main attraction. Yet this review makes it sound like the previous ones were just Match 3s. I've enjoyed Jewel Quest: Trail of the Midnight Heart and Jewel Quest: Curse of the Emerald Tear (the former more than the latter) and both those are mainly HOGs; the latter has occasional "puzzles" where you have to place shapes on a board that I found very challenging.

So if this is just a match-3, I pass, especially since folks say it's not very original. But I did want to post about the previous games (at least the two I have) which are far more and worth trying.

Yest, there are some HOG's in the series, but primarily Jewel quest is noted for its match-three games. I've added some of the Jewel quest games available from MPC in my review.

I agree that this game is not very exciting, at least the first few levels which I have played so far. But I love match 3 games, and have not found a new one in a while so I will keep it. So far I have not had a problem with waiting for the tiles to drop, perhaps it is because I am not that quick myself, it may vary according to the speed of the computer.

Can't install the program. Failed to launch the program.

.....................................Moderator Comment..................................

Check your event logs immediately after attempting to install. You may get an indication as to what the issue is. The main problem with giveaways, at least for the past three or four years has been the introduction of the Themida wrapper, which because it can also be used to hide malware does set off some security suites. I had the same issue summer 2016 and even after disabling my AV software couldn't install any giveaways for several weeks. I couldn't figure out what the issue was. The problem started after I'd reinstalled my operating system. I contacted Microsoft, who linked to my computer and found a security software I'd installed via the giveaway project, but had forgotten about because I thought I'd disabled it. It ran in the background and I'd not recognized it in task manager. They turned it off via the mouses right-click context menu. After that, I was able to install again. It may be you have something running in the background that is conflicting with the installation?

Mike, For the last few months I always have to disable my antivirus when I install a game from here. Otherwise it does not even come up with the installation routine. I use Avast for my antivirus and it has a 'disable for 10 minutes' option, so if I forget to turn it back on I am not unprotected for long. I have never had a problem doing this.

Barbara, I have disable the antivirus. I read the problem in the readme. I have AVG Internet Security and disabled all moduls. But is came the same error.

Disable the antivirus before the download. Then redo the download, unzip and setup with the antivirus software off.
This worked for me.

Mike, When I had AVG, I had the same issues. It worked for a while disabling, then that didn't work either. I gave up fighting it and totally uninstalled AVG and haven't had a problem since. So it is definitely AVG giving the headaches!

I have Avast too and hate the fact that I now have to disable it to get these games. On the other hand, I've found that I do not need to have it disabled for the entire install. As soon as the 1st real install screen comes up (just before asking me where I want to install, but after the "checking with ggaotd") I can turn my antivirus back on & still have installation complete successfully. So, while the antivirus is protecting anything related to the install, at least it remains busy protecting the REST of my machine and actions. Seems one just needs the antivirus disabled until the setup.exe gets past its 1st step, so possible to leave your machine unprotected for far less time than otherwise. No need to redo the download after turning it off either, at least with Avast.

Oops, minor typo in the above - meant to say "while the antivirus is NOT protecting anything in the install", it still protects the rest of my machine.

Mike,

" I have AVG Internet Security and disabled all moduls. But is came the same error."

One of the things that actual malware often does is try to disable any installed security software, so security software sends its roots deep into Windows to try & prevent that. What may be a side effect is that, depending on the brand of security software, there may be no real way to turn it off, even if it says it has that option, with buttons to disable different parts. When that's the case, booting into Safe Mode usually works, because the services the security software uses don't start.

Normally I do like Match-3 games, but this one is very disappointing. The 'help' is so annoying that I turned it off immediately.
As the game is timed, I expected a fast a game play, but it's not. Half of the time in a level you are waiting till all the new tiles have dropped again and you have to wait, you can't play until all tiles have settled again.

I'm sorry but for me it's too boring.

I start the setup.exe after download and unzip. The programm call "Connecting to giveawayoftheday.com: checking giveaway availibility... Short time later a new window with "Failed to launch the programm". OK --> Install aborted. I disable my Internet Security, same problem.
