What a BRILLIANT game! This has to be the best download I've acquired from this site. I've been lucky enough to play this networked over a LAN which works seamlessly. A totally addictive and original game, and one I would certainly be willing to pay for too. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU GAOTD!!!

This game is a lot of fun! Very simple to get the hang of and the idea of, but much tougher to master and really get REALLY good at. Very challenging and makes you think - excellent!

Mercury, thanks! I had accidentally done that. When I launched from the folder, the game started. But then froze. Good news is that I already had this game, I knew it looked familiar. thanks.

Great game, I give it a 10 of 10 in the Boardgame Conversions category.

The only problem I've had with Vista Home Premium so far was the previous giveaway. If you have less than 1 GB memory, that may be the problem.

Just a note for those of you experiencing a "Black Screen".

Did you try to make a shortcut to your desktop BUT accidentally COPY the file instead? I made that mistake.

Vista looks a lot nicer than XP. I'm just waiting for a working copy of SP1 to be released so that I can reinstall it. I had too much trouble when it was installed as it was causing problems with recognising hardware such as my DVD and CD drives as well as not letting me use a lot of my software.

I want to experience the DX10 graphics of the three or four games I have that support DX10. :) I can wait. There will be a fix. I'm sure a couplwe or more years down the line the same thing will happen to the new OS that takes over from Vista. By then there will be very few using XP and Vista will be the one everyone is loath to leave. I'm easy so long as it works.

Won't run on my XP SP2 same as last time, tryed the big fish version and it won't go but the game consumes resources, its in memory and 65 to85% CPU USE and then I get exception errors,,, close or debug,, access error ,, won't crash but is treated like a pest or virus or something so none of the versions will run at all now.. Ugh! Oh well..

I didn't get the error message that some of you got but it just won't play. I get a black screen with a couple words on it and that's it. I missed it last time around, too bad, sounded like fun. Thanks anyway.

#86.....There is MORE than one difficulty level. Go into PLAYERS. All three computer opponents can be set at easy, medium, or hard.

#87.....Don't hate VISTA too much. I notice that this game seems to work for VISTA, yet people with XP are having trouble with it. But I don't hear people "hating" XP like they "hate" VISTA when a game doesn't work.

Well, drat. I have been hoping for a while that this game would come (and it finally did), but I can't run it. I tried installing it in a couple of different locations, too. XP Pro SP2. Crashes during launch. Oh, well. I've only had one other game that I wanted that I couldn't play, so I suppose that is not too bad. Maybe by the time it comes around again I'll have a new computer, and then I can join the Vista-haters.

Installed and runs fine on Vista HP. The only reason to not give 10 points is there appears to be only one difficulty level. I give it 9

It's too late for me to review it today, but I have to say that I really liked it. I love a good mental challenge, and this delivers.

>WhiteRabbit

I'm pretty sure that Phil was joking about you limiting your review size.

Also, what is this "poetry" of his that I've heard so much about? It must be very old, because Ernie LaVallee(who would only comment to flame him) wouldn't shut up about it last fall, and it was old then. If you would show me where it is, I'd be appreciative.

Tried on two different computers. One never goes past the black screen. The other one will run it but not at a size that works for the screen. So, as interesting as the game looks like it might be, I can't give a thumbs up to something that I can't play. Perhaps they'll reoffer it after they work out the bugs.

The folks with Magic Farm fixed just about every bug fix we could throw at them and provided free updates. Perhaps Ingenious might consider that approach because I'm not going to go pay $20 for a game I already know I can't play.

Now off to delete the files since they aren't much use as it is.

From what I can tell this is the same version of the game as the previous GGAOTD offering, only difference being this release is a simple self-exrtacting RAR archive and the previous offering had an installer and uninstaller and therefore generated shortcuts etc. which this release does not.

Both releases work fine under Vista Home Premium.

For those of you who are saying that you only get a few moves and then the game stops, I think I know what the problem may be.

On the main screen, click "OPTIONS".

At the bottom of the options screen are timer settings. For example, if the last setting is clicked, a game will only last 60 seconds. Make sure that the setting on the far LEFT is clicked. The will mean that there is no timer going during the game. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

Hey BETTY BOOP! (#21) You asked how to play Ingenious by yourself. Here is how:

On the main screen, click "PLAYERS".

You now see a screen listing all four players. You are the upper left player. For the other three players, make sure that you click on the circle with a slash through it that shows under their name areas. When all three circles with slashes are RED, no other computer players will be playing, and you will be playing solitaire.

In the solitaire version, your scorecard shows 36 points for each color rather than 18. When playing this way, I consider my final score to be the lowest color count. This helps me to practice trying to keep my color scores more even, which in turn helps me when I play the computer opponents. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go teach a few computer opponents just exactly WHO the "Ingenious" one is!

-Dan

I downloaded this game the last time it was given away; today I downloaded and installed it on my laptop with Vista. No desktop icon so I had to search for it and used WR's advice on creating a desktop icon. I wish it had stats for numbers of games won so I could see if I'm improving my stats against one computer opponent. A great little timewaster.

The pieces are randomly created as they are used rather than "pulled from the sack." This is a serious flaw in game design because you can't count pieces in this game as you could using the board game.

I'm not sure if this makes sense. Imagine this: you have only two unused pieces left in the game. You play one, then undo your turn. You get a different piece. You can keep doing this. In real life, you'd have only two possible choices. In this version of the game, you'll get an endless supply of different pieces.

While I love the game in general and I think the interface is nice, the mechanics were not considered by a real board game designer. There's no way Knizia signed off on this one.

Like #51, I cannot get this program to run...I'm not even sure if it finished installing except that it made the "Activated" webpage open. I know how to find the .exe file and launch it, but all it does is hang up 90% or more of my CPU usage without launching the game until I kill it in Task Mgr...when I tried to kill it with AnVir, it crashed AnVir which now didn't autoload after a reboot. Even after deleting (no uninstall available) and redoing the DL and installation, I still can't get it to load. XP SP2, if that makes a difference -- what could be in confilct?

Downloaded and installed easily. The game runs fine with no problems on my XP computer. Maybe I am missing something but I don't get much out of this game. The game is fine, it's just not one I can get excited about. I will keep it for a while to see if my opinion improves.

The game installs by default to C:\Games so unless you changed it, that is where you will need to go to delete the folder if you decide not to keep it. The same goes for creating your own desktop icon, you will have to go to where it was installed (C:\Games\Ingenious or C:\Program Files\Ingenious or where ever you install your games to) to find the "application" and "send to desktop" and "create shortcut".

Thanks to GGOTD and the game suppliers for the variety of games offered lately! Keep up the good work!!

The game works good for me, good thinking man's game. The music makes me feel like I'm in the movie Ocean's Eleven or something...

To Betty Boop, I could not find an uninstaller either, in the folder where the game resides, and it doesn't show up in the Add or Remove Programs area.

D/ld and installed just fine. When I tried to play, I get a mostly black screen and nothing else. I tried to uninstall but can't figure out how!!! It's not present in my add/remove programs, either.

Re d/ld the file, installed on top of the old. Same problem.

Would LOVE to uninstall. Any thoughts how?

Thank you so much for today's offer, and so different than I have ever played before! The download/setup took under 5 minutes on my Windows XP. * I really do wish that makers could add a 'short-cut to the desktop' option to their downloads. The tutorial on this game is good, but it will take me some time to 'get the hang of it'. Thanks - this one is a keeper!

But, even with full screen inactivated, display was bigger than screen and had no way to click on any controls.
Had to cont-alt-del to close. No uninstall! Had to use Windows uninstall.

Waited 8 hours and downloaded again. Same result.

Terrible choice!
