Due to two of my family members passing away this week, one tragically (my brothers partner), I won't be posting full reviews this weekend and probably not next Friday/Saturday as I will be away visiting Family plus attending funerals. I will endevour to moderate this weekend as usual, but it will be sporadic. to all who have send condolences, thank you. I appreciate your comments: I will reply to all who post condolences, but I will not check the box that says moderated until the giveaway is over so that they don't so that they don't swamp the game comments. you should see my replies, but no one else will see your v=comment until later. Thanks. To the community members I promised to send Steam keys to last week, sorry for yet more delays, I will send them out as soon as I'm able.

Please only post comments about today's game giveaway; other comments either inappropriate, or not about today's game will be deleted at the moderator or administrators discretion; however a little light banter among community members and with the moderator to keep this a friendly place to visit is acceptable and welcomed. All comments not specifically about today's game giveaway will be judged by the moderator and if deemed not appropriate, will be deleted with no explanation. Please see the end of this review for further details about posting comments and links to the teams contact, moderation policy and the FAQ's thread, thank you.

Suggestions:

Whether you like or dislike In Search of the Lost Temple please give some feedback about your opinion of todays game giveaway, for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, and how it could be improved from your point of view. If you don't like this genre at all, please explain why. What improvements would change your opinion? There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would you give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only takes a few moments of your time. This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then move on to the next giveaway, or check out the extra's section at the end of this review; you never know, you may find something that interests you.

If you miss today's game giveaway it's unfortunately been removed from MyPlayCity, but you can still get it free from another free game site 24/7 HERE. Do remeber to uncheck any check boxes if you decide to download from this site; or ........... If you prefer to purchase the game you can get it via Big Fish games HERE. It costs £2.99/$2.99 if you are a new subscriber otherwise it's £7.70

In Search of the Lost Temple downloads to a 78.4 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\In Search of the Lost Temple

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)

The Game:

No review today due to losing two family members this week. Not been in any mood to play anything all week, sorry. There are links to community reviews of the game plus other useful feedback available in the next paragraph. It would be great if a couple of community members could post their impressions of todays game. I'd be most grateful, and it would mean a free Steam key for a game of your choice from the 300 plus games I've posted over in the forums HERE.

Other Reviews, Videos and a Walkthrough of In Search of the Lost Temple:

You can see community reviews of In Search of the Lost Temple HERE and more information in the Big Fish forums HERE.

You can see some videos of game play HERE, HERE, and HERE. You'll find a written walkthrough HERE.

Conclusion:

Looks like a standard Hidden Object game, but due to circumstances I've not been able to play the game long enough to give a fair conclusion to this game.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away In Search of the Lost Temple and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games, in this case Steam keys.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway:

If you have a problem running today's game you can find help in the FAQ's thread HERE.

I've updated the games section that used to be posted with the review. The thread is now called 'Weekly round up of game deals', formerly the games section of the weekly reviews. You can find the new thread (which I've posted in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to make it easier to find if you are perusing the game discussion forums) HERE.

If today's game giveaway 'In Search of the Lost Temple' doesn't appeal, you may find other games either free or for less than the price of a cup of coffee via the 'Weekly Roundup of Game Deals' thread which I've posted a link to above, or HERE.
The free game over on Origin is now Siberia II. It is a third-person puzzle-solving game. Stylistically identical to the first Syberia, Syberia II improves upon the first game by introducing more realistic character animation. The game includes a recap of the first chapter, so does not require the player to have experienced the first game.. You can get it HERE. Please note that you do require the Origin game platform to be able to download and install the game.

You will also find lots of deals over on Green Man Gaming and Big Fish Games usually have 70% off the first game you buy from them, plus they also have other deals occasionally. Alawar, Gamehouse and Playrix entertainment have free games available (usually online versions) and other game houses such as the AAA distributors Ubisoft and Origin always have some games on sale. I've updated the Weekly roundup of game deals HERE to include a large list of other sites where you can find games on sale ( e.g. Origin, uPlay, GreenManGaming etc, as well as links to free online games plus gaming news sites such as Rock Paper Shotgun and Game Seek, and included a list of free to play Massive Multiplayer games such as World of Tanks, World of Warships (both very popular), Liberators and Allegiance to name a few. For more details please go to the Weekly roundup of game deals over in the game discussion sticky section HERE.

Important - time limited information:

⦁ See Delenns post about other free Steam keys over in the giveaway game discussion forums HERE, she often posts information about free Steam keys and other games, so it's worth checking out.
⦁ If you've purchased games from Dot.emu the site will be permanently closing on 1st June 2017, so make sure you've downloaded a copy of each game you purchased from them as from that date onward the domain will no longer be accessible. To download your games go to the website HERE and login. Then to the top right of the screen you should see your profile. Select My Games and download each one. To ensure you have copies make backups of each game. During installation you should find the games executable files in the AppData folder/Local/Temp folder. Though it may be under a coded name. Once you're sure you've found the correct file, copy it then rename the copied file to the name of game you are installing, then back it up. If you find it difficult to accomplish this, an already installed version should be okay. whenever you need to re-install it all you need to do is copy and paste the whole folder to wherever you keep your games, then create a desktop shortcut. If you prefer shortcuts in the Start menu, there's a simple way to accomplish this, just Google the process. :). All games from DOT.Emu are DRM free, so you should be able to back up working copies of all games purchased; (thanks for the heads up Delenn).

There are 2684 games on sale over on Steam at the moment, with up to 91% off. Game prices range from as little as £0.15p (most of these cheap games are actually cheaper in the UK than the US, so if you are a US citizen and have a UK friend, get them to buy the game for you). There are almost 750 games and dlc less than $1 and almost 850 for less than £1. You can find all of the deals HERE.

If you spend more than $2 in the Indie Gala store you'll also get a free copy of Between Me and the Night worth £9.99/$14.99, plus there are loads more deals with excellent discounts of up to 85% that you'll find HERE. If you didn't win a copy of whispering willows the other week, Indie Gala are featuring it in their Gemseeker bundle. as time passes the price goes up. At the moment 13.30 UK time you can get the game for $1.06 HERE. The deal ends in 2 days 21 hours from now. (approx Tuesday 10am UK time). do remember, the longer you leave it the more it will cost.

The Humble Store features loads of discounted games (usually Steam codes) and the latest bundles have a great selection of games and applications (not all Steam) i.e. The Humble Hooked on Multiplayer Bundle includes Tricky Towers, Eon altar Ep 1, Primal Carnage Extinction, Move or Die, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Rampage Knights, HellDiver plus HellDivers Ranger pack dlc, or the Streaming bundle (ends on Tuesday 4th April) that includes Monstercat Twitch License (1 yr), FaceRig Classic, FaceRig Pro (these two change how you look when using web cams), Quiplash, Choice Chamber, XSplit Premium (3mnth License), Drawful 2, Beanbox (6mnth lcense), Magix Fastcut and Hotspot Shield - Elite VPN (1 yr License)). If you subscribe to the Humble Monthly, which costs $12 a month (or less if you choose various monthly plans) you not only get a large collection of decent Steam games you will also get for the first month of the subscription The Witness(worth £29.99), which was released last year (Jan 21016). This game will change next Friday). The great thing is, you can cancel at any time, so only need to receive the first bundle of games. I personally haven't bothered, but only because I usually have already purchased most of the games included in the monthly bundle. The usual savings on the games you get are around 90%, not counting the introductory offer. There's also lots of games on sale over on the Bundle Stars and Indie Game Stand (IGS).

Giveaway Team Contact and Moderation policy:

Since the introduction of the VPN blocker and the Captcha requirement before you can post in the comments, the number of spam and troll comments have been reduced significantly. Assuming this continues to improve, I will be removing this section from this review to cut down on the length of the review. :) The following is continued from the first paragraph at the beginning of this review This is a site that gives free games away, so it was quite shocking to see the number of negative and sometimes inappropriate comments that were being posted here, especially when they were not even related to the actual game that we were receiving. I always though getting something for free was a privilege/perk/treat/ and deserves at least some thanks or gratitude and still cannot understand why we got so many negative comments that could have possibly turned away potential developers who would otherwise have given the project their games. Then again, having researched the mentality of trolls and spammers I've come to understand some aspects of the problem and because of that have chosen to totally ignore most comments from such people. Of course we have freedom of speech, but as mentioned in my review above, there are rules to posting in this comments section; even a free society requires rules and regulations to run properly, so please bear this in mind when posting a comment.

In-Search-of-the-Lost-Temple-b-640x480

In-Search-of-the-Lost-Temple-d-640x480

I believe if we get lots of decent feedback about the games we get here, more developers would be happy to give away their games. Seeing lots of complaints (and spam) instead of feedback about the giveaways will not persuade other developers to give their creations away for free, especially when they may have spent thousands of hours working on their creation. So please bear this in mind when posting your comments. Any comment not about the game for example complaints, or if deemed unfriendly or inappropriate, will be deleted (usually with no explanation) or added to the spam folder, which automatically black lists the IP address you used. Although I have enjoyed responding to many of those comments in the past, I will no longer waste my time answering comments from community members who should have read the moderation policy. One or two word replies will also be treated as spam.

Negative feedback about the games given away will always be welcomed because they can also be very constructive for developers, however, complaining about the way the site is operating or problems about downloading or installing the games or about Steam keys not received should be directed to the giveawayoftheday team via the contact form (with evidence of completed tasks, the name and email you used to enter the competition, or giveaway). I've linked to the contact form HERE; alternatively, if the problem is game related and it is late in the day (I can't moderate 24 hours a day), please also post your issue in the forums where you may get a response from the community. All games given away here have been thoroughly checked using several anti malware suites to ensure a safe download and in the 10 plus years this site has been operating, there has never been a game infected with malware. If your security software flags an issue, it's probably the Themida code that is used to protect the game from hackers or sometimes the non invasive adware that MPC games use. Themida code can also be used to hide malware, so some security software's will automatically block anything with Themida code, even if it's absolutely safe to install. also other computer configurations (i.e. the way you have your computer set up) may have blocked the install. Often, such problems are related to your computers set up. i.e. your security may block the installation (for example quite a few game giveaways I've installed have been blocked by my copy of Zemana Anti-malware suite) Also please read the moderation policy which can be found HERE and if you do have a problem please check the FAQ's thread HERE. Thank you for reading.

FREE game offer from the moderator in exchange for quality feedback:

I've posted a list of those who have won a key either for posting a decent comment about the game being given away, or posting consistently on a weekly basis. Here is the up to date list of winners. I still haven't sent out any games becasue I was hoping to do it all in one go, but some winner has still not responded, so will try to send out the keys by the end of this weekend. Check your emails for your keys soon. :) Everyone who has chosen a game will get their first choice so far. I've recently added more games to the list and am slowly adding video of game play for each game to give you an oppetunity to see what the game play is like; so, if you've already chosen a key, you are welcome to change it if you wish before I send the keys out. Things have been extremely manic for weeks now which is another reason for the delay in sending out keys. Sorry for the delay. I d8d promise to send out keys at the end of last weekend, or a tthe very least by monday evening, unfortunately I received two pieces of bad news, concerning deathis in the family, so wasn't relly in any frame of mind to keep that promise, however I will endevour to get those keys out to thsoe who have already chaosen their games as soon as i'm up to it.

Happy gaming.)

Depending on the quality of the feedback, I may choose to award games to more community members for each game given away, 'at my discretion'. The feedback must be about the game, and it must include a couple of paragraphs of feedback following the guidelines I've posted in the suggestions section of my review. i.e. your opinion of the game, what you liked and/or disliked plus suggestions for improvement. If you choose a game that is very cheap I may give you a second game; so, when choosing from the list I provide, please list more than one choice. If a game is chosen by more than one community member and only one key is available the key will go to the one I deem the most useful. I do have multiple keys for quite a lot of the games I've listed, so, don't be put off if you see someone else has chosen the game you want. I haven't indicated any of the games I have multiple keys for (though for example I do have several keys for the excellent Western themed AAA game Call of Juarez, which i picked up for free for purchasing several games via the Indie Gala store several months ago. spending a few dollars got me a copy of the game, so I made several separate purchases over a couple of days while the offer was still live.
I do own at least three community members a game from the previous giveaways that I posted several months ago. I'd totally forgotten about those. I do have a document with their names on, so they will get a game from the original list when I find the document (I'm extremely disorganized); or they can peruse the new list and choose something different. Just post a comment over in the forums in the appropriate thread. If you do post feedback with a view to getting one of the games and think you have covered the requirements, you don't have to do anything until I announce the winners the following week.
Please remember, this comments section is mainly for feedback about today's game giveaway. If you're not sure, read the moderation policy, which you can see HERE

Thank you JBoy, much appreciated. This comment will not appear in the comments until after the giveaway is over. Thought it best to keep the main comments clear as I've received more condolences that there were comments about the game. My brother is the one I'm really worried about. His partner was originally his girlfriend way back in the 1970's but they split up until about 4 years ago, and have since lived as partners and were very happy. My sister was chatting to her earlier in the day and she was really chirpy and happy; still totally shocked at what has happened and so close to my uncles passing as well.

Review for: In Search of the Lost Temple
I have played on the easy level. Like others I was uncertain of some terms used for objects that here in the U.S. we have alternate names for - but I just take it as part of the game. You do have to be very aware of what items you have in inventory as that is often where you need to go next when I was stumped. Items get combined often and not always as one might expect. In the case mentioned by M. Aronson, the water and the pills have to be combined and then they can be given to the father - did not seem obvious to me. Also, the flashlight was used to look under the bed for another HO scene - don't recall for sure but may have had to combine it with something as well to get it to work. Medallions and trophy cups are awarded rather freely - usually for minimal misses of clicking on items, as well as for "quick finding 2 hidden objects" - though I did not feel I did that well to earn these.
My annoyances:
- the cursor sticks for a few seconds when the music cycle ends (on my system at least)
- you literally have to move the cursor randomly around the room to get a magnifying glass to show up to go further in the game
- mini-games have been word games and a lock puzzle which were not very difficult - I stopped when I got to a spot the difference between pictures mini-game to write this review
- a number of items look like blobs of matter with no discernible features - at least to me

I still like the game overall and will continue to play. Some suggested changes would be: in the word scramble mini-game - keep the unscrambled words on the screen so we can use them to help with further unscrambling; don't put multiple pieces of paper in a scene and then ask to have us find "paper" - one scene had at least 3 possibilities due to this; don't like the idea of randomly moving cursor till magnifier shows up but don't know what I would do different; better resolution for certain items.
Music is fine to me and unobtrusive.
Thanks to My Play City and Game of the Day
My condolences to Stephen/Whiterabbit-uk = don't worry about us - do what you need to do. Thanks for all you do.

Decent storyline; nice artwork; 98% correct English so far, although they called a briefcase a "portfolio." The problem I've found so far is that after you finish up with a room, a hint shows you another room that you might have already finished. Also, clicking for a hint sometimes does nothing at all in those finished rooms. So, altogether, at this point I would give it about 85% Thank you, GAOTD and Myplaycity -- I love H.O.G.s!

I'm changing my review. Even though I managed to find a flashlight, which was required to find in one room, then bring to another, it doesn't do anything in the designated area. In that same room, we're supposed to give the old man his pills and water, but the pills on his bed can't be picked up, and the water in my inventory does nothing, either. I give up. I'm uninstalling this game. Good concept, but too many holes in playing it. Thank you anyway.

Downloaded & installed fine on Windows 7, Home Edition, 64-bit, Intel graphics card. Okay, I'm a Hidden Objects fan, but this, so far, is kinda boring. I played for almost an hour....I really should be "grabbed" by then. I personally prefer more exotic-looking graphics and I would expect exotic-looking locales based on the theme of the game. Maybe I'll encounter those types of graphics later on in the game. But, the graphics in the beginning of the game simply look like photographs as opposed to nice art.

I may try to play some more to see if it gets to more beautiful art for the graphics....but I definitely can't do it while I'm sleepy.

And WhiteRabbit, so sorry to hear about your losses! Take care of yourself through all this. :-)

Although a nice looking game the puzzles are to simple and the items to easy to find imo. Besides that it crashed after an hour of play. Still for those liking HoG I would say it is ok to play through

The developers might want to have a native English speaker review the clues for the objects. A compass was called a "divider," and a light bulb was called a lamp. I'm not very far into the game yet, and I've already been stumped because several objects weren't called by their right names. It shouldn't cost a lot to get a native English speaker to go over the object names; lots of HOG fans would probably do it for free, even. :-)

I love hidden object games. This one's not that great. Graphics are so-so and English isn't their first language. (When is a piggy bank not a piggy bank?) Fortunately, hints recharge quickly in casual mode. It ended fairly abruptly, so I'm not sure if we saved Grandpa or not.

I've installed GotD games for years with no problem. But with this one, clicking the Setup file tells me that the game has been successfully activated, but nothing actually installs.

It looks like Avast was blocking installation without doing me the courtesy of saying so. Once I turned Avast off just long enough to install the game, it installed fine.

I'm sorry for your loss. Any death is difficult, but two in one week sounds horrendous. *hug*

Not sure if I will try to download since I have gotten that corrupt file messages for a while and missed some good games.
I did want to send my sincere condolences to you and your family. May God give you strength to endure your loss.

Thank you Terri, your thoughts are appreciated. This won't be visible to the wider community, only you and me. at least until the giveaway is ended. Thank you. Regarding the issue with corrupted files. It's usually the anti virus that causes the message. However, i will email you when I'm able with some suggestions. In addition to the terminology difference some of the hidden objects are cross-labeled. Resolution could be improved. Had some difficulty at first figuring out what to do and where to go but that may just be a cultural thing. Game flows well, hint button recharges quickly, good story line. I like the idea of combining hidden objects as well as using one object to reveal another. Good effort! Keep at it.

My computer is HP 23 all in one with windows 10 64 bit. Downloaded & Installed quickly. The game runs smoothly. Interesting graphics and it is brighter than most and easier for me to see. :) Thank you GOTD and My Play City!

Install failed due to Norton AV detecting something it believes is: Trojan.Gen.8!cloud

Not willing to override my AV for the game.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

Hi BobbyA

There is no Trojan, your security has detected the Themida wrapper which is used to protect the game. unfortunately Themida can be used to hide malware, but the giveaway team check all downloads with several security software's to ensure a safe download. they have been giving away games virtually every weekend for over 10 years and have never given a game away infected with malware. If you are not willing to temporarily turn off your security for this game, which is absolutely clean, you could try and white list the giveaway files with your security software then install or reboot your computer in safe mode with networking and install the game that way. I can assure you the downloaded file from the giveaway site is totally safe. Still it is your prerogative not to install the game.

BobbyA,

In Norton 360 click on Settings / Antivirus / look for Auto-Protect and turn it off. It should tell you it will turn back on in 15 minutes unless you do it manually. After turning it off you should have no problem with the install.

BobbyA, Hi BobbyA, I just wanted to let you know that I understand your concern about overriding the antivirus for a game as I've gotten that message too. But I have been getting games here ever since it started and I have never had any viruses from any game that I have downloaded and that includes many that I have had to override Norton to download. I understand if you are still not willing to attempt it but I thought if you heard from someone who has had to do it as well maybe you might feel a little easier about trying it. As the moderator stated it's up to you whether you decide to install or not. Have a good day everyone.

Was thrilled to see my favorite genre represented today, and all downloaded and installed fine and is so far playing nicely. As sometimes happens, a few language difficulties in the HOGs where a term is used that isn't used in the U.S. for something. Hints replenish VERY quickly which may lead to a tad laziness :), but overall, big thumbs up and thanks.

Hi

Thank you for your feedback and condolences. Much appreciated. to keep the comments clear of all the condolences I've kept those dealing with my loss hidden from view until the giveaway is over, however as you have also given feedback about the game, I've deleted that part, but do very much appreciate what you said. Hope you don't mind.

Just adding to my review now that I've finished the game; this one disappointed somewhat. The biggest disappointments were two-fold: first, the game was VERY short compared to most of this genre, and ended amazingly abruptly. And secondly, while I understand that story is secondary and puzzles primary, this had almost no story, almost no "figuring things out", just HOG after HOG. The HOGs were fine (except for occasional aforementioned language barriers), but I prefer the games where there is a map with decisions to be made about how to proceed, and interesting puzzles interspersed (the few here were pretty basic and easy). In other words, this one was mostly about good eyes and less about brains. Additionally (and minor) there were a few tiny glitches where scene transitions weren't smooth.

So overall, a morning's diversion, but nothing to write home about :).

Win 10 64bit Home. Downloaded and played excellent. I like these times of game. Hints were easy. The only thing I didn't like was having to read through the movie. If there was an option to press space bar to read the next quickly. A keeper of a game. Thank you.
