Icy Space
Icy Space is a cute family oriented platformer, where you jump from planet to planet freeing Mubblies from their enemies. The aim of the game is to free all the Mubblies and kill all the enemies to earn points that enable you to progress to the next level. You can see a video of game play HERE. Beware as the expanse of space is icy cold and your space suit leaks heat. If you don't warm yourself up by finding drinks of hot choco, you'll freeze and have to restart the level again.
When you find Mubblies unfreeze them using the unfreeze command (space bar) As you approach them your character will automatically unfreeze them. At the start of a level it will tell you how many Mubblies to find. Once freed Mubblies will follow you. Once you've collected the required number of Mubblies and earned enough points to unlock the next level (an indicator in the top right should confirm) return to your ship and blast off to the next level.
When you approach enemies make sure you switch to attack mode, otherwise you'll end up having to replay the level again. There is an indicator at the bottom of the game screen that tells you which mode you are in, as mentioned previously use the Space bar to switch between the unfreeze and attack modes.
Controls:
Left and Right Arrow keys = Walk left or right
Up arrow key = jump
ESC = pause or quit
Space = switch between unfreeze and attack
F1 = help
Conclusion:
Icy Space is a simple platformer that is ideal for all the family. The cartoon like graphic, saving cute looking yellow blobs called Mubblies and the simple controls make for a reasonable game experience especially if you play with your children. If you are into serious action games like Call of duty, Assassins Creed or the presently free Just Cause 4 (over on Epic Games until 23rd April), you probably won't enjoy this game, but if you are a family oriented parent or grandparent you may find this a decent game to play with your children.

Don't forget to check out the the latest Epic Games giveaway that includes the excellent open world shooter Just Cause 4 as well as Wheels of Aurelia a story driven sweet road trip along the famous western coastal road in Italy during the 1970's. Also check out Reddit's Free Games on Steam (there are at least 5 free games added including Red Gate, Drop, Gamecraft, Polyball, Will Glow the Wisps and Lost Daughter - just open your Steam client and search for each game in the store, you'll see that they are 100% off at the moment. hurry though as these free games don't stay free long. Once added to your account it becomes permanent). You can also get a Steam key for Manual Samuel via the Humble Giveaway and Indie Gala has also added a few more games that look worthwhile, including an excellent marble popper on the lines of Luxor,. but with a fantasy setting. (Delenns posted a link in the forums, see my links below to go there) There's actually two marble poppers, the other one being Corona Match a 3D version of marble popping.
Sadly the Assassins Creed II giveaway has ended. via Ubisoft's uPlay; however, do check Delenns threads for other freebies both Steam and Non Steam titles HERE and HERE

Whiterabbit-uk, >cough< According to your screenshots, it's Mubblies, not Mugglies. Been at the Harry Potter again, eh, Stephen? ;)

Also, you seem to have posted your review in "duplicate…" or perhaps you just pasted it twice? :)

Cad Delworth, Oddly I had just watched all the movies only last week. The review was rushed as I had other things to catch up on. an the double posting probably occurred becasue I was proof reading it as I'd noticed a few errors, so had copied the whole lot to a document to work on, then copied it again. The reason for this is because unless I save regularly I get logged out automatically and lose everything I've edited. When it came time to copy over the edited version, I copied the whole lot, but didn't bother checking. Thanks for the heads up on both issues all sorted now. :) .

anna,

Hello Anna,

The reason is because Icy Space is a commercial game sold via various sites. Games from sites like TooMky Games and others such as MyPlayCity, Gametop, FreeGamePick and others enter into a deal with the developer whereby if those distributors allow us to download the game for free, they earn money via the adverts that we see both at the beginning of the game when it boots up and when our browsers are opened to their home pages every time we play the game then close it down. Part of that money is given to the developer of the game. Developers can earn a lot more money this way than just relying on sales of the games; especially from older games.

It's such a sweet graphics that I had to download the game. :-)
As expected it is not that professional but nevertheless a nice time killer.

So it sounds like this is basically a "Lemmings" clone. I'll pass as I've never cared for Lemmings games... Thanks for your review Whiterabbit-uk!

Hi Trying to be helpful, thank you for your comment, appreciated; however, this game is nothing like Lemmings, there are no blockers, diggers, parachutists and definitely no atomic bombs to blow the level up if you want to restart. It's just a platformer with a different mechanic to the usual side scrolling or arena platformers and is oriented 'in my opinion' mainly towards children and upward. :)
To the community: if you remember the puzzle platformer Lemmings fondly and would like to play it, you can download it totally free from the Microsoft store HERE. You do need a Microsoft account to be able to do so. I just use one of my old Hotmail accounts that is still active to sign in and downloaded the game several months ago. We used to play it a lot when I was still at university because our TV had been stolen and the only Game Boy game we had was Tetris; (which used to give me a serious head ache squinting at the small screen on the original Game boy and listening to the annoying music). Lemmings became one of our favorite PC games together with the original side scrolling platformer Prince of Persia * (please read note below before downloading) and the F-19 Stealth Fighter Sim until we got another TV .
* - The download from this link received 4 out of 71 positive hits for malware via Virus Total; you can see the results HERE

Whiterabbit, my partner and i used to play tetris on gameboy like crazy. i can still hear the music in the back of my mind. i played it so much that when i tried to fall asleep at night, i would look at the cube wall unit (ikea expedit 5x5) at the foot of the bed and see blocks dropping and rotating. good times! :-/

tinyearl,

We played it to distraction as well; but too much, which is why I used to get head aches and eye strain. It was a very addictive game and I still play variants of it even now. They always take me back to that time as it was one of the best times of my life (late 1980's). My wife (then my g.f.) was doing a placement at the Freshwater Biological Association in the UK's Lake District and I tagged along for six months as they had a fantastic library that was appropriate to the subject I was researching (heavy metal pollution) and which I used extensively to complete my Masters thesis.

Whiterabbit-uk, that was a few lifetimes ago for me, too. i got eyestrain and motion sickness, with bugdom being one of the worst (and cutest) offenders. wow, i think you were way ahead of the curve studying heavy metal pollution then.
