We've had two from this game series previously i.e. Family Secrets and The Palm of Zoroaster, but we've never been given House of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside before. :)

In Brief:
House of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside is a puzzle based Hidden Object game.

You can see a video of game play HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

There's a mixed bag of Steam community reviews, accessed 24th September 2021 HERE.
Introduction:
Use the power of light to defeat a devastating darkness before it destroys mankind! When a strange creature descends from the clouds to spread a destructive virus across Earth, The House of 1000 Doors appears near the home of a young woman named Emily. A photographer by trade, Emily unknowingly possesses a gift that can destroy the evil being. Within moments, she goes from developing photos in her studio to fighting the greatest threat humanity has ever faced.

Guide Emily as she explores three amazing worlds ruled by the members of the House, whom the darkness has possessed. As you locate cleverly hidden objects, solve cunning puzzles, and complete challenging mini-games, you'll use the light within Emily to cleanse everything the infection has touched. Completing the main game unlocks a treasure trove of bonus content, including wallpapers, concept art, a spectacular bonus chapter, and more. With stunning artwork and animation, cinematic quality cutscenes, and an original soundtrack that will immerse you in the thrills of a breath-taking adventure, the Collector's Edition of House of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside is an experience you'll never forget!

The Game:
The fan-favourite House of 1000 Doors series is back! But this time, it is developed by Alawar and Logris Games, rather than its original developer, Five-BN Games. A strange meteorite has crashed into a small town, spreading a deadly virus and infected everything in the town, including the House of Lancaster, Now that the House has let Emily, the last relative in, help her use her special power to bring back the peace.

With the switch in development team, we did not expect things to remain the same with this fourth instalment. Unfortunately or not, we are right! Although Evil Inside still has the same gameplay structure as the previous three games, as well as the same portal-travelling concept. It is irrefutable that the series has lost its charm.

Instead of exploring the house as the title of the game might have suggested, Evil Inside has you travelling from here to there through countless fantasy locations. We kind of missed the realism aspect that was so well done in the previous instalments, Evil Inside ended up being just another dark fantasy HOPA game.

Nonetheless, the game is still pretty entertaining. The gameplay does feel a little clunky, but it is definitely well put together, The hidden object scenes are not very frequent, they are not terribly difficult nor dead easy – many of them featured some cool interactions as well. The puzzles are not bad, although they could have benefited from some more creativity and a higher level of challenge.

We hold nothing against the artwork; each and every single scenes looks stunning on our screen, with amazing colours and suitable lighting. At the same time, we do feel that the animations and the scene transitions are not as smooth as we liked them to be – these lead to the slightly clunky gameplay we mentioned before. As for the music, the soundtracks are great and play softly in the background. The voice overs are fine, nothing special.

Despite all the flaws, Evil Inside has an impressive length! It took us over five hours to finish the main game, plus an hour of bonus gameplay. Other extras include wallpapers, achievements, making of, cutscenes, soundtracks, concept art and collectibles that are well blended into the scenes

The installed game is 1.64 GB in size; that is almost three times too large to use an online scanner. Virus total limits the upload size to 640MB. As with most of these games from free game sites there is low level adware, most of which has been disabled in the game giveaway version. The only thing that happens is that when the game has been installed, your browser is opened to TooMky Games home page. This earns TooMky Games advertising income; part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be downloaded for free. The desktop shortcuts can be deleted; they have no effect on your computer and no malware or adware is injected into your system.

Whiterabbit-uk,

The latest free game from Epic Games is a previously given away game called The Escapists - a unique prison sandbox experience with lots of items to craft and combine in your daring quest for freedom. Life in prison will keep you on your toes with the strict rules that you’ll have to break. The guards are out to stop any escape attempts, so you’ll have to avoid suspicious behaviour by attending roll calls, working a prison job and hiding your stolen craftables. Next week we will be getting the map based Europa Universalis IV , an empire building game that gives you control of a nation to guide through the years in order to create a dominant global empire. .

Indie Gala have added more games to their showcase section HERE, e.g. Crazy Space Pirate, Marvin the Hatter, Pirate Codex, DreamTime, I LIKE THE FLOWERS, Project Restart, A Maze In Opportunity, Mirage Online Classic, In the world unknown, Dissociation, The little witch Edwina, Hard Place and another Leisure Suit Larry adventure. All but volume 7 have now been removed from the free section, but if you grabbed them while they were still in the freebie section, you'll still find them in your Indie Gala library, where you can download DRM free copies of them.

You can usually find links to Steam and non Steam freebies via Delenn's threads over in the forums HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). (thanks for keeping these threads updated frequently Delenn, it's really appreciated by me and I'm sure other community members.

The latest Humble Choice bundle went live on the first Tuesday of the month; If you have the original subscription before it changed from the Humble Monthly to the Humble Choice bundle you get 12 games plus a DRM free arcade game called Sluggish Morss Pattern Circus and access to all the games in the Humble Trove while your subscription is live. The Humble Trove includes around 75+ titles. The DRM free titles you can download and keep forever. The other games in the Trove can be downloaded and played while your subscription is live. If you suspend a month you lose access to those games for that month. They are adding games to the Trove virtually every month. Here's just a few examples of what's included in the Trove. Race the Sun: Challenge Edition, Zodiac II, Volantia: Kingdom in the Sky, Shady Knight, 20 minute Metropolis, Keyboard Sports, When Ski Lifts Go Wrong (this is £14.99 on Steam, you get the DRM free copy, so can still play it if you suspend your subscription). Also includes Valhalla Hills (another Steam game worth £7.99, but you get the DRM free version), Broken Sword 5, Runestone Keeper, Bomber Crew, (another DRM free copy that is £14.99 on Steam), Drawkanoid (£3.99 on Steam), Actually quite a few of the games in the Trove are also on Steam, but you always get the DRM free version.

There are different subscriptions available, details of which you can find HERE.

If you subscribe, it doesn't tie you in to buy every monthly choice bundle. If you find the latest bundle isn't for you, just go to your account page and suspend that month. This has to be done for each months bundle if you don't want them before your subscription is due for that month. Apart from the amazing bargains found with these choice bundles; there is always at least one or two premium AAA games, plus several other AAA and high level indie arcade games included in each bundle.

This months bundle would set you back £211.68 (approx' $290) if you purchased all of the games and includes PGA Tour 2K21 (£49.99), Neon Abyss (£15.99), Not For Broadcast (£19.49}, RÖKI (£19.49), Narita Boy (£19.99), West of Dead (£15.49), Atomicrops (£11.39), Heaven's Vault (£19.99), Swag and Sorcery (£9.99), Fort Triumph (£15.49), Orwell: Ignorance is Strength (£7.19) and Framed Collection (£7.19). For me, just the cost of Swag & Sorcery takes care of the cost of the whole bundle (it cost me £8.72 for the bundle) so I'm very pleased with this months choice, especially as several were on my wish list. The last one I already had, so gave it to a friend.

The extra game is a weird graphic oriented game on the lines of those Amanita Design games such as Samorost 1 (free on Steam) and Samorost 2, Machinarium and Rocket man, but is much more psychedelic and wacky. (If you get the bundle make sure you turn down the volume when playing Sluggish Morss Pattern Circus as it's rather jarring in places, but fits the game.

Another DLC for the free to Play Minion Masters called Minion Masters - Mordar’s Malediction is 100% off on Steam at the moment HERE.

If you come across any games that are worth downloading, please do post details and links in Delenn's threads HERE (non-Steam) and HERE (Steam). Thank you in advance.

Two games I highly recommend at this time; firstly, because they are both excellent games and more importantly, because they are both 90% off at the moment. They are Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide (£2.29) and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III (£2.99).

Whiterabbit-uk, hello Whiterabbit, I would appreciate knowing how i can eliminate unnecessary file/apps/shortcuts/etc from the downloaded game titled:
Shadows price for our sins. I got it from giveawayoftheday.com. my problems is that there are now so much stuff added to the download that my older computer either freezes or stalls for long periods of time. i simply can not enjoy your offerings, which i use to enjoy a lot as i am a shut-in.
could you guide me through this?
thank you

I have tried to install the game on Windows 7 Ultimate and also on Windows XP and in both installations when I run the Setup.exe file that is unpacked in the same directory that Setup.gcd, I get the message "the Key cannot be decrypted" and the installation stops there. I have disabled all my firewalls and security programs, made a reboot, downloaded the file again and reinstalled and got the same message. I tried to search the forums in relation to this specific message but I found nothing but recomendations on the Themida wrapper, no help at all on this issue. I will loose the giveaway because House of 1000 Doors: Evil Inside is available as a Giveaway of the day!You have limited time to download, install and register it. 1hours34mins42secs is the time I have left. Any little help will be appreciated!!!

Johnatans,

Hi Johnatans,

The giveaway version is (as far as I can ascertain) identical to the TooMky version that you can get via the following link:

https://toomkygames.com/download-free-games/house-of-1000-doors-4-evil-inside/

I downloaded the TooMky version so that I could add more images to the review before it went live on the giveaway site and have had no issues with the game.

The game installed with no problem but when it started I got a message saying the game crashed and where the report folder was located followed by saying to send this info to the game developer. If this is correct where should I send it?

Jerry,

Hi Jerry, I've deleted the other two comments you made because they are just repeats of this one.

The game is old by today's standards and unlikely to be updated now.

Please check the FAQ's thread in the Game Discussion forums via the following link:

https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/11647

Also, if you get a similar issue again, immediately check your event logs. Sometimes the error messages recorded there can give you a clue as to what the issue is.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thanks. Sorry about the repeats. Every time I hit comment it acted like it accepted it with no error but then went right back to the input line with my question already there. I see all three now but did not see any last night. Weird just part of the game I guess :-)

I tried several times to download and install but i get "the key cannot be decrypted" even if I temporarily disabled antivirus. Anyone got the same problem?

JP,

Hi JP, check the game discussion section in the forums for the FAQ's thread (you'll find a link to the forums at the bottom of the page). There's two, one in the main and one in the game discussions. Yo may find a fix there. There was an issue several years ago where this happened if you used a particular browser; it had to be set to online for you to be able to download anything. Also, check your event log immediately after trying to see if any useful log entry can be found that explains why it's being blocked

I retried few minutes ago and the installation procedure went fine.
Thank you for your suggestions.

This WAS a pretty good game, Stephen. It lasted a decent length of time. I liked the more challenging hidden object/puzzle scenes. Even the minigames were good. The interactive map was useful.

The "Hand of Light" was kind of lame, though.

I'm usually not wild about point-and-click adventure games, but I'm really enjoying this one. Something about it seems to make more sense to me; I love the fact that things were disarranged in her home because her cat messes things up. :-)
