Holly 2: Magic Land:

In Brief:
Holly 2: Magic Land is a hidden object game with several seek-and-find and mini-game challenges. It was originally given away November 2020 where it received a positive 93% from 29 votes with 5 comments that you can see HERE. The game was released almost 13 years ago, so the graphics are a little dated and the screen resolution is best set to a lower resolution that most of us are used to now. Still it was okay at 1920 x 1080. We were given the first in the series 'Holly - A Christmas Tale Deluxe' last week.

You can see several videos of game play HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

The Game:
In Holly 2 – Magic Land, the visually appealing sequel to Holly – A Christmas Tale, we find Holly, the suburban wife, mother and clandestine fairy, on another magical hidden object adventure after her daughter goes missing. Holly, along with her adorable friends, will need your help as she travels and searches through beautiful lands to findthe items needed to get her and her daughter home safe and sound.

Holly, a Wife and Mother with a heart of gold, helps anyone who is in need. It’s Holly’s Birthday, and she learns that her young daughter has disappeared through an enchanted storybook portal to the land of magic. Indebted to Holly for saving Christmas, the Elves have returned to help her find her daughter.

After travelling to the land of magic with the help of a magical gnome, Holly encounters many enchanted creatures such as the lovable mole, the precocious ant that loves sweets, and the machinist that always needs tools. Holly’s search is not an easy task, since several obstacles stand in her way.

The game has 49 search screen levels and six varying mini-game levels. Gameplay consists of finding the hidden objects listed and clicking on them to remove them. Some levels will require you to find all of one type of item, and others will have multiple items listed in text, picture, or silhouette form. You can only click on items while they are showing in the list window. There are no points awarded, and you can only progress once the level has been completed.

You are given three hints, and every time you find three "magic golden strawberries" you will earn another hint that will accumulate and carry over to the next level. Each screen allows you to earn one extra hint. If you need to leave the game it will save the level you are on, but you will lose any progress you had made. The game can be replayed with items in new places each time, but you can only start from the beginning of the game or the last level you played.

As a fan of the first Holly game, I had high hopes for the sequel. Unfortunately, with the exception of the stunning artwork, most other components left me disappointed as it appears Holly 2 doesn’t quite match the successful formula of the first game. The storyline was cute and well told, but childish. The game was noticeably easier than its predecessor, and many levels could be completed in less than a minute. Those that were more difficult were only due to one or two well hidden items. The "golden strawberries" needed for hints jumped off the screen, and the ones I accumulated, I never needed.

I was able to easily complete the game in three hours at a relaxed pace, which is fairly short compared to other hidden object games. The six mini-games, which were built in as timed game levels, consisted of the usual fare such as recreate the pictures, match the items, place the jewels in the puzzle, and re-arranging pipes until they form a single unit. I found the pipe mini-game the most challenging aspect of the entire game.

The music was much less enjoyable than the first game, and left me frequently irritated. At the completion of each level there is fanfare music that is so loud in comparison to the background music, I would jump out of my skin each time it played. I was confused as to why the levels were timed when there are no points to be earned, and you can’t progress until you find all the required items anyway.

Stunning artwork is just not enough to make this a top hidden object game, but I would not call Holly 2 hopeless. Young children will find delight in the artwork and storyline, and if played with a parent, it could provide hours of fun "together time."

Gamers that like a real challenge in their hidden object game will be frustrated however, and overall this game is best suited for those who are either young, new to hidden object games, or enjoy a relaxed, low pressure game experience with a cute story and happy ending. I would highly recommend trying the demo to this game before purchase to see if this is the game for you.

Review and conclusion below accessed HERE 2nd January 2022, originally posted by Kellie Cardwell-WintersKellie Cardwell-Winters on Feb 20th 2009.
Pro's: Beautiful hand drawn graphics. Relaxing gameplay. Cute storyline. Different game each time you play.
Con's: Game is on the short side and at times boring. Music can be annoying and startling. Mini-games are too easy for adults.

Notes on Security

I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 4 hits (VBA32, Jiangmin, MaxSecure & BitDefenderTheta) from 60 antimalware engines. These four are amongst only several antimalware suites that often tag TooMKY Games compared to most better known and more reliable antimalware engines, so it's almost certainly a false positive.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that opens your browser to TooMKY Games home page after the game has installed and may place some shortcuts onto your desktop; these can be safely deleted once the game has installed.

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to TooMKY Games home page following the games installation, it earns TooMKY Games games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. The giveaway version of TooMKY games version has had most of the adware disabled.

Other Free Games:
Please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE and HERE for the latest non Steam and Steam freebies. Also for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see 100% off.
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; recent additions include Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas ( a traditional style jigsaw puzzle game), North (asylum seeker game), Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, (a point and click mystery adventure), Snowball (A more "discovery-based" approach to pinball. Learn the secret rules of the board to access hard to reach places and rack up HUGE SCORE BONUSES, which are generally agreed to be more important than any other current event in the real world) and the full version of Die Young (you play as Nehir, a field agent of a well-known political party. The party's agenda is to deconstruct and eliminate Brother n.1, the leader of Island's community); we were previously given the prologue version, (which is still available free) Recent games such as Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner and Contract with the Devil have now been removed. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (around 100 are available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free, so you should grab them as soon as you can.

The daily Epic giveaways have now ended. The final game was actually a trilogy of Tomb Raider games worth around £120 when not on sale. Two of the games are heavily discounted at 90% and 85% if you prefer Steam versions.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration - Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration includes the base game and Season Pass featuring all-new content. Explore Croft Manor in the new “Blood Ties” story, then defend it against a zombie invasion in “Lara’s Nightmare”.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition - In Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition experience the final chapter of Lara’s origin as she is forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be. Combining the base game, all seven DLC challenge tombs, as well as all downloadable weapons, outfits, and skills, Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is the ultimate way to experience Lara’s defining moment.
Tomb Raider GOTY - Tomb Raider is a critically acclaimed action adventure that explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a young woman to a hardened survivor. Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold. The Game of the Year edition includes the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, 6 single player outfits for Lara and 4 characters.

These three games will be available until the 6th January where a new game will be offered called Gods Will Fall. - Experience the trials of 8 warriors in their plight to sever the gods’ grip on humanity as you take on legions of beasts in each of the gods’ realms.

The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be) where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best. A more recent addition that is worth checking out are the Fanatical bundles (that used to be called Bundle Stars) that you can find HERE.

Cave Story®'s Secret Santa is still available free over on GOG; when I first posted this over a week ago, it wasn't actually available; you will need to revisit the page to claim the game if you tried grabbing it last week).

There are several thousand (+) free games available on Steam, though if you go to the free games section you'll only find a few hundred listed. Many of them have been removed from the Steam store over the years, but, because some Steam community members have added them when they were available, they are still accessible via the Steam database. Because they are free, you can still access these using a particular script that is available via SteamDB. When you first access the correct page it will list every free game available together with it's Steam app number. Initially I copied the list of games to a document then searched Steam for each game, but this method was very time consuming; I reckon I only looked over less than 1% of the games available over several hours (doing short stints each day), so in the end decided just to run the script and let them all be added. A friend told me about it some time ago. He enjoys running the script for one run every morning while he takes breakfast, ). Because Steam 'rate limits' the number of games you can add in any one hour, the script will only add 50 games at a time. He then looks those 50 games over and then removes the ones he doesn't want in his library and adds the ones he's keeping to a category he created specifically for free games so that they don't saturate his paid for games library. He then repeats the next day, sorting through the next run, while having his breakfast. He's been doing this for several months and said it's quite exciting discovering what games you can get for free.

Many of the games are decent first attempts by fledgling developers; for example, I was playing one of them that I'd added some days ago called Sinking Simulator where you can model the sinking of various ships and other floatables. If you like destructible physics based games, it's quite entertaining and an ideal coffee break game. It includes a level editor and access to over three thousand Steam WORKSHOP, items that include models of famous ships and other models that you can use to create your own ships. This is just one example from the several thousand totally free games you can add to your account.

There is a Script you can use in conjunction with SeamDB that will add every free game into your Steam account (It doesn't install them, just adds them to your account). I will be posting details of how to claim all those free games over in the forums when I get some time to myself. At the moment things are really manic for various reasons, so it probably won't be until the new year. I will be posting a link to the thread once I've posted it. :)

I have one spare Steam key for each of the following games:

The Mims Beginning (sandbox god game)
Settled (2D pixel graphic horror)
Visitors (action horror)
World's Dawn (farming/dating sim RPGMaker)
The Flame in the Flood (isometric post apocalyptic rogue-lite strategy open world survival)
100% Orange Juice (family friendly turn based card game, Anime)
Zombo Buster Rising (side scrolling zombie tower defence)
The Battle for Sector 219 (abstract strategy card game)
Super Hop 'N' Bop ULTRA (retro casual split screen PvP platformer)
Car Mechanic Manager (management sim)
Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 (Automobile sim)
Ice Lakes (open world fishing sim with VR support)

I'm offering a Steam key for the above games to the first person who asks. Only one per community member; however, if there are more you would like, please add more choices - if no one claims those titles by Monday 3rd January, you may get a surprise via your email).

However, please check Steam to see if the game will interest you first. I'm really busy, so I may not respond until late in the day or even tomorrow. If someone has already asked for a particular title (unless it's other choices apart from the first), please don't ask for that game because the first person to ask will get the key. I 'may' include more titles later (probably over the weekend). I have thousands of spare keys from Bundle Stars (now called fanatical games) and other indie bundles; but I recently read on Fanatical that all keys sold by them are not guaranteed after a certain time and I know for certain that many of the thousands of Indie Gala keys I purchased were voided without being redeemed; Grrrr.....; so, it's always recommended that keys are redeemed sooner than later. I gave away a large number of Indie Gala Steam codes last year to a friend and almost all of them had been voided, even though they had never been redeemed. Many of the keys I've given away have been pre Summer 2017, so there's a chance those may be invalid even though they have never been redeemed; however, so far all of the keys I have given away recently i.e. around 100 games (that to purchase when not on sale would have cost well over a thousand pounds ) have activated on Steam. Though none were from Indie Gala.

If it is still possible, I would love a steam key for Euro Truck Simulator. Otherwise any of these would also be great: townopolis, timeswapper and safety first.
And thanks for all the years of providing very clear descriptions of the games every time there is a giveaway. I am sure there are many people like me that never respond on the website but always appreciate your work. All the best for 2022, I really hope this year will be better for you.

Hi Jessica,

Unfortunately Drew asked for the key first. So I've given you your second and third choices. If no one asks for your fourth choice, I'll email that sometime over the coming week.

Hi Karen,
I never rely on the emails. I know that in the UK games go live at 8am in the morning and last for 24 hours. So I always check at 8am or thereabouts to make sure I don't miss it. I would advise you not to rely on the emails and just check the site to see what game is being offered. If you are a regular to the giveaway, you'll probably know when a new game goes live?

Depending on where you live in the world, the change from one game to the next will be different; for example if I was living on the East coast of the US i.e. Eastern time, the change over would occur at 3am in the morning, in Melbourne Australia it would be 7pm in the evening.

Sorry you missed the giveaway. Too be honest, the TooMky game versions given away here are basically the same as the ones given away directly from TooMky games. I've not detected any difference between the two (I usually download the ones directly once I know the game is being given away here and have often compared the two.

You can get the game directly from the following address:

I downloaded this game for my daughter and it was extremely fun as we both enjoyed finding the hidden objects throughout the levels. The story line was fun for her as well, as it allowed her to focus on her reading and asking for me to define words such as "aggressive". So not only is this game fun but has a bit of educational value to it as well. I like the ability to stock up your power ups for well hidden item that has stumped you for minutes on end.

Graphics 8 out of 10... Visuals are pretty nice, but it's fairly easy to identify what's critical to click as it's more polished and crisp in the level unlike the other objects that are just 2d looking and have a matte finish.
Control 9 out of 10... I like that doesn't allow to spam the button and find stuff inadvertently with ease.
Sound... 8 out of 10... She likes the music, I'm a Dad if I had my choice music would be off, lol...
Fun Factor 8 out of 10... She enjoys it, but her limit is about "8" levels so it's fun for a limited spurts it seems.

Final Score and Closing Remarks - 8.5 out of 10... This is highly recommended for little girls who want to live a fairytale in a imaginative land where animals talk to you as you aid them in tasks in order to help you get answers you're seeking in your ultimate quest to progress in the game. Parents will really enjoy the teamwork in this game as you will see instant gratification as the game rewards your child with a completed level with instrumentals which will have your daughter high-fiving you to no end. Keep up the good work, but let's release the daughter games in moderation, I just got my other baby, this high end computer with a top of line graphics card and would like to enjoy some daddy time as well.

Thank you for the game,
J & Pea Pod
