My annual meeting with my HMRC officer (UK's tax office) is due later today. Since Covid they have been telephone conversations which take around an hour to complete; so, I'm going to be busy getting my accounts sorted for the meeting which takes place at 3pm this afternoon. Unfortunately I won't have much time to moderate until this evening.

I only played the game for a short time earlier this morning (around 3am) to at least get a feel for it; so, I may be missing some details such as other spells and artefact that you may find in later levels. It's unlikely I'll have any time to play this game again today, unless I manage to find some spare time this evening; I'm still deep into the recent Way of the Hunter release, so it probably won't happen, but I do like the game so will try to squeeze some more time in before the giveaway ends Thursday morning.

If anyone from the community gets to level 2 or further today, please do post details of anything I've missed e.g. other artefacts and spells. Thank you.

He Wont Pass:

In Brief:
He Wont Pass is a 2D side scrolling Tower Defense game with some platforming elements. Defend yourself using various magic spells that you earn as you progress and artefacts such as books that give you new spells or defensive towers that you can build and magic rings that you can collect e.g. the arcane control ring.

You earn cash by destroying monsters, this can then be spent on building defences. Monsters also occasionally drop artefacts. Each of the four levels has waves of monsters attacking you. The build menu is in the form of a wheel. Apart from defensive towers you can also create a health station as part of your defensive towers. You'll see Most of the selections are locked in the early stages of the game; the health tower stage has a + sign within a circle. Once your tower is full built, you'll see a crystal on the top of the tower, This has the ability to fire magical bolts at the enemy attacking you, so build those towers as soon as you have earned enough cash as every tower completed increases your fire power. The first level includes 12 waves. It's common in most TD games for later levels to have more waves; however, I haven't got past the first level yet, so can't say if later levels include more waves?

You pick up three different spells in the first level, called Arcane (default), Ice and Lightning spells. Each of these has two attack forms using the left and right mouse buttons.

You can see a video of game play HERE

A = Move Left
D = Move Right
W = Jump or move up
E = Pick UP or Build
LMB = Attack 1
RMB = Attack 2
Mouse Pointer = Attack Left or Right
Mouse = Menu selection
1 = Arcane spells
2 = Ice Spells
3 = Lightning spells

Tower Defense games are one of my favourite arcade genres (together with Shmups, Breakouts and Pinball games); so I'm a little biased when it comes to most versions of this genre. I was pleasantly surprised with the game play and the colourful graphic.

I've played much better TD games e.g. Tower of Altrac, Sanctum 1 & 2, X-Morph Defense, Bloons TD 5, Creeper World, Plants vs. Zombies, Defense Grid: The Awakening, Orcs must Die as well as lots more, too numerous to mention; most are either 3D, top down or isometric versions. 2D Side scrolling versions are quite rare, so this is well worth downloading, especially if you enjoy tower defence games. We have had a couple of 2D side scrolling TD games previously; The Last Roman Village comes to mind (though it was a limited giveaway twice April 2020 and August 2019), so you may not be familiar with it unless you won a key; the other name escapes me at this time. Both games were excellent time wasters. (I'm still playing the former occasionally)

He Wont Pass may be relatively short, but the game play is decent and there's lots of action to keep you entertained. Like most arcade games, this is more a game to play during short breaks from more in depth games or during your work breaks (assuming you are allowed to play games at work). I'd score this a 6 out of 10, though if there were more levels it would have been a seven. :)

You can find a few decent free TD games on Steam e.g. Infinitode 2 - Infinite Tower Defense and Dwerve: Prologue (basically an extended demo of Dwerve) :)
Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 60 antimalware engines.

Sorry, I had some problems with the install - turned out to be my error - so late in posting. Just notifying that this is also incompatible with my 32 bit Win XP SP3 machine, in case our few XP holdouts are interested.

One complaint: I praised Ashoot last week for giving the option to not make a start menu item, as well as the more standard options of no desktop shortcut and no quick start menu item. Except, it doesn't work. I took it as gospel, but finally checked, and the last 6 Ashoot's I installed all put in a start menu item, even though the default is unchecked. I hope Ashoot will look into that. I just go to the game's folder to click the program. I don't play them THAT often to need any shortcuts. And can make my own desktop shortcuts. But that's just me. But why offer a no start menu option if it doesn't work? Or maybe he has it backward and you have to check it to NOT get it. In any case, hope he'll look into that, please. Thanks Ashoot, GGOTD, Whiterabbit, and all the good folks who drop by.
