I cannot recommend this game. Too difficult to pick up quickly.

I agree with #45. People like Belgian Dude, SherlockHolmes, and Scott contribute nothing to the comments section other than their arrogance and misinformation. The comments board doesn't exist so you 3 can spew nonsensical, offensive absurdities at practical, decent people who don't even provoke your ridiculous behavior in the first place.

This game is impossible. I installed all times it was offered and it has NEVER worked. Now it wants a registration number. I keep putting giveawayoftheday (guess) it says ok that it is accepted, and then it wants it again. I'm starting to think one must be a hacker in order to START the game. Frustration...

I prefered Mindlink, it wasn't so hard and still funny. But for it's price, it's ok. Anyway, i'm glad this site came back.

I didn't like this game at all. Commands were ackward and I didn't have a clue how to play this game properly, however I still managed to pass the tutorial. In my opinion Uplink just more approachable and has an easier user interface. Nevertheless someone like this more "realistic" touch, but I don't. I hope we get better games in the future.

Nevermind, all I had to do is uninstall the last version of the game. (completely get rid of all the files) and reinstall with the new setup. Thanks so much GGOTD

I, for one, really like this game. I personally like using command line based programs, so this game is quite enjoyable. (The previous version at least) This version just keeps asking for my activation key, I am running vista.

I installed the earlier Hacker Evolution offering, but didn't have time to play it and never got around to it. I installed this version, and ran into numerous problems. The original GOTD zip had the wrong readme, which they have posted a correction for in comment #20. The game wanted to overwrite the earlier version, but I selected an alternate folder. It overwrote the start menu entries anyway. Even with the corrected activation code, I get the same problem as numerous others--says it's activated, but then says it can't and goes into a key request loop, so the game cannot be played.

Hello,

I had the previous version, I dloaded the new, activated it and plays both games fine. The only problem I am having is the popup about online scores. There has to be away to disable that message, maybe through the mod editor or the Games manager but I can't find it. Please some help.

hi its an ok game but for those that like window game play it is not for. I only played the tutorial as i don't like to have to memorize all the commands you need to type for this type of game. Didn't really care for the first one so don't see myself playing this one much. Thanks for the game though we do appreciate most of the games :)

I am glad to have another chance at this game. The first version did not work on my computer at all (would say that it was working but nowhere in the task menu or on-screen :P).

From all the comments I'm really looking forward to see what the music is like :)

In reply to #34's comments.

First off if you have broadband, what is 80mb download?

Second, you must not have any idea let alone have any experience programming computers in any kind of language. Have you ever tried to program a game? Business software with out graphics or sounds is hard enought but you step into the game programming arena and it is a whole new world. The most simpilest game is a real pain in the butt, let alone have it compatiable for almost every computer , plus who does all the graphics, sounds, etc. To say a kid could produce a game from scratch on a rainy Sunday morning is absurd! Also, if you think your so great a gamer and programer as you think you are by your absurd statements please take some time this Sunday and produce a game for us all and submit it to ggotd and well compare it!

Download took only just about 2,5 minutes for me using the mirror link.
Install wasn't as obvious as I thought it would be, it installed in exactly the same directory as the previous one, overwriting it in the process. Now I get a message that I have to reinstall the main game, which I cannot do anymore. Install procedure should have been clearer on that. I find it very strange, that it doesn't install in it's one directory, since it's supposed to be an expansion of the original.

After clicking OK on the warning message, the game does start up, so I was able to play it. I only worked through two levels, they played fine. You can recall previous command with the up arrow, so you don't have to retype everything. If you used to like old fashioned text adventure games on a Commodore, MSX or DOS you'd probably like this one. The "point and click" generation might not.

I also had a look at the game with explorer. Looks like just about everything in this game can be hacked.

Belgian Dude: It's funny how you complain about a 79 MB-game being bloated, and then start talking about Dungeon Siege II. How many MBs does Dungeon Siege II use? I seem to remember the demo was well over a gig. Are all those textures needed, or are they just bloat? Wouldn't the game have played the same if the surfaces were just colored instead of textured? Definitely.

Would you have preferred that? Of course you wouldn't. Unless you're nuts. What you call bloat is stuff that makes games interesting. You may not care about music in games, but for others (myself included), it's a very important part of the package.

I have broadband. FYI, I'm not American (look at my username, duh!) and couldn't even get a AOL connection even if I was stupid enough to want one.

Bloated is bloated. 79Mb for a game wouldn't be bad if it wasn't for the fact that more then 95% of it is due to music, soundbytes and lousy graphics. One could code this entire game in less then a 1MB if one uses a decent language.

For 25 USD you can buy DungeonSiege 9 + expansion pack. Which is a game developed by an actual company and not something that some pimple faced school drop out threw together on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Yes, it's free today. Woopie do. The only difference that makes is that it's free crap instead of crap where he asks 25 USD for.

Good morning everyone!

Absolutely no way, will I be wasting my time evaluating this game. Not only is it not my type of game; but the first two games in the series were just awful as far as I was concerned.

They were really buggy, froze my computer numerous times and the help files were totally useless in teaching me the game.

I think I'll stick with reviewing the software on the GotD site today, instead of on GGotD.

Have a great day everyone!

The download was slow on a fast high-speed connection, which would have been irritating if I hadn't needed another cup of coffee. :-D

I did not download the first offering of Hacker Evolution because I figured it was not the type of game I would play. I downloaded Hacker Evolution-Reinsertion to see if I missed anything worth having, and to see if I could duplicate the problems people were having with activation. The game activated fine with the key provided in the readme file. It is important to note that it does say the key is case sensitive, so be sure you have the correct case or it won't work.

I played a bit in the tutorial but got stuck at one point not being able to come with the correct command, so I need to check out the manual that comes with the game as it wasn't in any of the help screens. I would expect the tutorial to have the information needed to at least make it through the tutorial, so maybe I just missed it after searching all the screens I could search and going through the help multiple times. At that sticking point I exited the tutorial and game. But I think I will go back when I have some time and try again cause it is more interesting than I had thought it would be from the description of it. I am glad I decided to try it out.

I had to turn the music down. It is very annoying music, in my opinion.

So for those who asked:

No, you do not have to have the original game offered here to download
and use this add-on.

The registration key given in the readme file from the download and linked by the GOTD team in message #20 of this comment section works. Make sure you type it exactly as it is given, paying attention to capitalization. Also, have your Internet connected as well since an Internet connection is necessary to complete registration.

Enjoy!

Sure some people here will yell at me that I'm complaining but all I'm saying is that we waited for better games and so far none that I can see.

I've posted the link to the original game, Hacker Evolution which was a giveaway back in May. I didn't review it due to a problem with my computer. However you will find enough comments appropriate as to whether you will decide to download it and try it out from the 200 plus comments that the game prompted.

As yesterday, I'm very busy again today. So apart from a few words cannot spend the time reviewing this game today. I do presume that this is a stand alone add-on because it installs its own desktop icon and start menu items. However I have been unable to start the game because it does ask for a serial number, which does not appear to have been included in the package. The zip file unpacks to a setup and read me file only and once the game has been installed the usual ‘successfully activated’ window appears. I found no trace of a serial number to use or any messages to say go to their web site etc.

I will return later once I’ve finished my retail therapy, which is being carried on from yesterday. :) and see if it’s me not seeing the obvious, or wether others are having the same problem. I tried to find te registration name that comment #9 pabjerka made but nothing?????? I tried Hacker Evolution, Gamegiveaway, with lower and upper case letters. Eachh time it said game activated, but the registration box would pop up again... I have to go.

Sorry folks.... I think I'm going with the Belgian dudes feelings. I didn't keep the forst one; however each to there own. :)

Hi Margie,
See my comment from yesterday by following the link below. The game giveaway team allowed my email to be posted, so you can contact me about your proposition. I’m interested to at least try it out. . See comment #67
