For your programmers:
1) Music doesn't stop when game window is minimized.
2) Don't see any feature to change the music volume or to silence it altogether.
3) Pieces occasionally disappear. First puzzle was finished with two missing pieces. Moved completed part everywhere on the screen to try to located the missing pieces. Tried every command except scatter, and finally located the missing pieces after shutting down the game, re-opening, and then going through those commands again.
4) Scatter was quite dramatic: undid everything and started me over again. I think the clock should have reset at that point, or at least given me that option.
5) Love the B at the bottom, to help locate border pieces. Nice touch.
6) So far, my finished puzzle has never exactly fit the ghost image, usually being smaller. I believe the preciseness of the fit has to do with the difficulty level.
7) It's very odd to snap two pieces together, then double click to rotate, and rather than the unit rotate, each piece rotates in place, but they don't separate. That seems like a bug to me.
Thank you for this game!

I downloaded this game, installed and activated it and enjoyed it. I love all types of jigsaw puzzle games.
I have one problem. I had to reformat my computer and I saved the game onto my other harddrive so I could play it again.
Once I reformatted and installed the programs I tried playing it only to be given a screen saying I only have 30 minutes to play. It asks for a Registration Code and I wasn't given one when I installed and activated the game. How can I get one so I can keep playing this game?

The puzzles are beautiful. I definitely like the fact the background music can be changed very simply, by using your own MP3 files. Thanks GOTD.

Did find that after telling Norton Internet Security 2010 to restore having deleted the Activate.exe, the activation did run and has activated the game.
Save | Cancel
My Norton Internet Security on one computer will not let me uncompress the program or activate it. I have been able to run the program on 2 other machines I have, but cannot get it to activate on this one machine. I had to copy to uncompressed directory over through my home network to get the program to run, but cannot get it activated out of trial mode.

Try using the demo from Fly Games. You'll still need to use the activate file though.

Follow up on my suggestion on adding images. It didn't work. The jpgs I copied over and renamed to box extension all gave a message of "Invalid box". However, I do see how you could easily use Infinite Jigsaw Puzzle. They also use a .box format! I think I'll go that route myself.
Save | Cancel
The moderator comment about not keeping the game but keeping the puzzles he liked got me thinking. An earlier comment said the format (.box) was unknown. How could you save for something else if the format is unknnown? I did some checking. I found out that .box is really .jpg. I tried to open one in Irfanview and it said it was really .jpg and did I want to rename it. I said not but it does bring up a point.
If a .box is a .jpg, what would happen if you took other .jpg files you have and copy/rename them to the BOXES folder with a .box extension instead? That could be a way of adding images to it. Just like removing/changing the music, do it under the table!

.......Moderator Comment........
I don't understand what you're talking about? Unpack the downloaded zip file run the set up then run the activate file. That should register the game. However I've just discovered that the activate file will register the demo that's available directly from fly games. Try downloading that. The advantage of using that version is yo get shortcuts installed to the desktop and the Start Menu/Programs list as well as an uninstaller. (though its not set up to uninstall the registration details from the registry, it will remove the actual game.

I have the same problem as Jolene - no jigsaw.exe file. If I run jigsaw.todo the program runs but can't find the box files. What is wrong? I am running Win 7 and never had a problem with the downloads from this site.

Download the demo from the developers site. Install that then use the activate file to activate it. I've just checked i out and it works. Plus you get a desktop and start menu shortcut installed.

how do you put in an activation code? I was playing and after 30 minutes it shut off? It said it was activated. Was it because I didn't download the bloatware that came with it?
.....................Moderator Comment................
By Bloatware, if you mean Software Informer, no you don't need to install that program.
When you installed the game did you get the message that it had been activated? Try reinstalling it. The download should unpack to a readme file a setup and an activation module. You don't need to input an activation code as the activation module does that for you. Once you've installed the game you do need to click on the activate module, othrwise you will only get the demo.

After downloading and extracting game (Glamour) , key activation becomes impossible giving message "unable to connect to gamegiveaway". This still occurs after several attempts. What is wrong please ?
.................Moderator comment.......................
Try rebooting your modem and if you have one your router. If that doesn't work clear out your internet cache (right click on your internet icon (internet explorer) and select internet properties. If you use Firefox you have to go into tools and find the appropriate links there. (I don't use Firefox). If you can't find it google it. :)

Tried it for a bit, and it wasn't bad. Better than a few jigsaw games I've tried in the past, but not one that will be on my harddrive past a week. I do like the music option, as well as the shadow guide. But compared to my favorite jigsaw game, it just doesn't hold up. My fave is an independent title called BigJig, available from http://www.lenagames.com/. I bought it when it first came out for $10, and she provides free upgrades and a free puzzle a week. There's a huge library to choose from already, and you can create your own. There are eight piece shape types to choose from, and just a whole lot of customizeable options that have kept BigJig on my drive through several PCs.
......Moderator Comment............
I've already copied over the images I like from this Jigsaw (I recognised some of the images as free, so have assumed all of them are) to my favorite Jigsaw program. I also wont be keeping this one, but only because I think Infinite Jigsaw has everything I need. :) If you don't own a jigsaw program, then todays giveaway is fine. I hope the developer does improve on this version; taking into consideration all the comments that have made suggestions above. I do think the music issue should be sorted. At least include an options menu for adjusting the sound, also a way to upload your own images into the program and add more interlocking shapes as well as being able to specify the number of pieces in a jigsw, from say 10 right up to at least a thousand and beyond. This would then allow the puzzle to be customised for different levels, for example, choosing the lowest option of only 10 pieces (or even less) would be ideal for young children and a thousand plus for the hardened jigsaw lover

Not my teacup but pretty looking images. Great for small Manhattan

As to moderator comment in #18 about prg to save desktop icon settings. One free I've used on lots of OS thru W7 Ulit x32 is
Desktop Hijack Fix (.zip). A google should bring it up since haven't
done so for long while. Only bare bones, 3 small files with just 2 choices - save & restore. Might be others by now. Just found this one and never bothered to keep looking. Goes into Start menu & you
can make a desktop icon. Only issue I rem is that sometimes when installing a fresh different OS (like from XP to Vista or to W7) there might not be 100% workage. Guess since saves settings to registry, User folder, or something that gets trashed so only some icons reappear. Otherwise just fine.
But otherwise
.......Moderator Comment........
Thanks for the help. I test a lot of freeware and abandonware games for the free games project and am always having to re-position my shortcuts; so Desktop Hijack Fix should save me lots of time. It's not the one I've used previously, but it'll do. :)

This game is the only thing I have downloaded today. Yet, I know have a program running on my desktop called Software Informer. It is connected to GOTD cause if you open the program up it has a tab that shows you the current giveaway of the day. Can someone tell me what this is and how I happened to get it on my computer?
..........Moderator Comment...............
Hi Kate, Software Informer is a software updater program that the giveaway team started to offer a few months ago. It will not install itself without your permission, so you must have allowed it to install inadvertently. (Easily done if youre not paying attention to what you click). It's easily uninstalled via the Start Menu Programs link that you'll find. There's a uninstaller link within the software informers folder.

I used to have a program like this that would let me bundle my own artwork and music into an executable that I could give away online. It also had a clickable URL that I could customize once the puzzle was solved that would bring people to my web site. I can't find that program anymore, but as an artist, it was a great way of promoting my artwork. I don't see these features listed for this program, but would be very interested if the next update features these options.

Inas,
I had a similar problem. It didn't seem to recognize when I completed a puzzle. I ran in Admin mode once to check and it did save that. After that one time, I don't seem to need Admin mode. It may have been needed just the one time to get the record started.
Just for the Record - I'm running Vista32 Ultimate SP2.

HELP !!
........................Moderator Comment....................
I had the same problem with yesterdays game. I know the game giveaway team test all their games rigorously. That and the fact that no one else has reported a problem probably means its a false positive. I got around the problem initially by turning off my protection temporarily. I was then able to install the game. You'd have to set Norton up to allow the offending file to run. I don't use Norton; never have, so can't advise on how you'd go about tweaking it.

Hi all, this is the very first time I've downloaded a GOTD game and it is very cool indeed.
One important note - when I tried to install it normally, the application did not work - but when I ran the setup.exe file by right-clicking and choosing "Run As Administrator," it worked, so I'm not sure if this applies only to my siutation or to all PCs???
Anyway, thanks much WhiteRabbit and GOTD for this great game.
Best,
Inas

If you can find a image converter that converts images to the BOX format you may be able to use any image, though you may have to change the name of the image to one of those in the game.

You could always temporarily change the screen resolution to boost the size of the picture. :) Though that may mess up your desktop shortcuts unless you have one of those programs that remembers the positions pf your shortcuts. (can't remember the name)

Back in 2002 I bought a puzzle program called Jigs@w Puzzle by Tibo software for $9.99. They have a new version since then, but you can use your own photos, specify the # of pieces, how curvy or straight the edges are, you get a gallery of the completed puzzles that you can "walk" around and view, and I can't remember what else it does. I stick to that version, since it does more then what this one does.

Thanks GGOTD for this nice game. I love jigsaws, less on the computer though. The advantage this way is that you don´t have to clear the table. I agree with the earlier comment about locking the frame. Every time you put a piece down it all moves up a bit.

It did not create a shortcut for me - no big problem and there are NO options available. I normally play with music OFF and sound effects on. I managed to get rid of the annoying music (both themes) by removing the MP3 files from the MUSIC folder. Since there are 2 files there and are both MP3, you can substitute your own music by copying in and renaming your music of choice.
Otherwise it's a nice game.

Nice game, shame about the music. Has anyone found a way of reducing the volumne of the music, which is an option on most games. I can then listen to something I want to instead of the elevator music supplied. If I can not do that I do not think I will be playing this very often.
.....................Moderator Comment........................
You can change the music for any other MP3 you may have. The in game music is in the MP3 format. You will have to rename the files to the game files (mnu0001 and mnu0002) then just place your renamed favorite music into the following folder (asuming you've allowed the game to be installed to the default location and your root directory is C:)
C:\\Program Files\Glamour Puzzle\MUSIC
If you can't find it, use the search function and look for 'Jigsaw; or hover your mouse pointer over the Jigsaw shortcut to find the install path. :)

Thanks GGOTD and fly-games for this family friendly puzzle.
A suggestion for the next version: It would be nice if a certain picture could be chosen directly, instead of scrolling through all the pics.
Like WR (thanks for your great review!) mentioned, it would be cool to add own pictures. I tried it, renamed a .jpg to .box, but the game did not accept it, though .box is just a .jpg.
If you don't like any background music when playing but won't miss the other sounds, go to the music folder, and rename the .mp3 to .back or .shut_up ;)

Installed smoothly, NP. I only played 1 puzzle, took my time, and I like it a lot. Better than many I have had. I love how you can make the entire picture show behind what you're doing, & it's size matchs the puzzle exactly, which helps a lot! You can make the picture in background as transparent as you want, or not. Nice game! :) Both thumbs up! :)

Great game for the price, but I might suggest the developers work with the locking feature a bit more. That I saw, you could lock the border 'in place' so the user cannot move it, but additional pieces still do jar the border around. It would be nice if the lock kept the border in place, period.

Nice looking graphics for all to enjoy piecing together. Thanks for the Game give away site!!
To my suprise there were a lot more pictures to assemble that I had thought there would be.
The music is a little bit choppy with the application. Perhaps I can replace with my own file(s).
The colors are bright and the photos and artwork are very good.
Keep up the great work everyone.
And most of all, enjoy.

Glamour Puzzle:
Introduction:
A jig saw is a jigsaw, though some jigsaw programs are better than others. We were given a brilliant jigsaw puzzle early in 2008 called the Infinite Jigsaw puzzle that enabled you to upload any image you wanted and it would create jigsaws of varying complexity from very simple 8 piece jigsaws to ones with over a thousand pieces in them, as well as change the shape of the interlocking pieces.
Today’s isn’t quite up to the standard of that particular jigsaw puzzle, but it works well and does have a few options to extend the life of the game. The following is the developers (Fly Games) introduction to the game:
Reference accessed HERE on 26th Dec 09
The Game:
You get 126 images to choose from, some of which I've posted here in this comment; with themes ranging from cute and exotic animals, architecture such as skyscrapers and Tower Bridge, classical paintings and castles to name just a few of the images to be found in the games image library. You have to scroll through the images to select what you want. There is no facility to add new images and it seems like you can’t add images manually as all the images found in the games installed folder are of a format I’ve never heard of before (Box). Once you’ve chosen the image you wish to create a puzzle with you select the difficulty level. There are three of those; Easy, Medium and Hard. The easy puzzles can probably be completed in 10 to 20 minutes, or even faster if you utilise the ghost image which is an exact fit to the puzzle image (see the second image of Tower Bridge below). You can further increase the difficulty by allowing all pieces to rotate. Once this is done you can start solving the puzzle. There are several buttons that allow you to perform certain functions such as creating a ghost image within the puzzle area that gives you a framework to build your jigsaw; this can be made to look more solid or virtually disappear altogether, depending upon how easy you want to make the puzzle. There’s also a preview button that brings up an image to the top left of the playing area. This has three settings, the first being a small thumbnail and the final setting (number 3) fills about a third of the screen. You can show hints which will drag a piece of jigsaw to the correct location on the board, but then will spring back, so you have to watch where it is going otherwise you may lose the position, especially on the more difficult settings. There is a counter to tell you how many hints you’ve taken. There’s also a B key that makes the central pieces disappear so that all you can see are the border pieces.
If you want to leave a puzzle part done and start a new one you can do so and then return to the partially finished puzzle at a later date. Apart from the in game buttons there are several keyboard shortcuts which I’ve detailed below.
Useful keyboard keys:
F10…………………………Boss Key
Ctrl + A………………….Select All pieces
Ctrl + S………………….Select All Border
Ctrl + D………………….Select All unsolved
Esc………………………….Back to game menu
Features:
• 126 puzzles
• 3 difficulty levels: easy, medium, hard
• Optionally rotated pieces
• Special visual effects
Images:
You can see a slideshow of images from the game by following the link below:
http://s571.photobucket.com/albums/ss160/Whiterabbit04/?albumview=slideshow
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista
500 Mhz processor
64 Mb RAM
25 Mb hard drive space
3D video with 8 Mb VRAM
Music:
If you don't like the intro or in game music you can easily change it for any of your MP3 collection. There is no file conversion needed because the files used by the developer are MP3 also.
If you've installed the game to its default location you should find the music files by following the path:
C:\Program Files\Glamour Puzzle\MUSIC
The two files you need to change are named mnu0001 and mnu0002. It may be a good idea to bck the two files up before you overwrite them.
Conclusion:
Today’s game giveaway is a functional jigsaw puzzle with enough decent images to keep you going for a couple of months or longer, depending upon which difficulty level you play on. There’s going to be something for everyone with this game with respect to image tastes. The main disappointments with this game was the inability to add additional images to the stock already there, the lack of any alternative jigsaw shapes and the ability to change the number of pieces from very few, which would be ideal for children to thousands. Despite these omissions I still think the game is worth 7 out of 10.
Thank you to Fly games (not seen you in quite some time) and the game giveaway team.
I've just checked up on who gave us The Infinite Jigsaw puzzle back in Feb 2008 and it turns out to be the same developer. That was definitely a much better puzzle. :)
Problems with the game?:
If you have trouble getting the game to work try downloading the demo from the developers site. The activate file will register that demo as well as the set up file we get. The advantage of using the demo from Fly games is you get a desktop and Start Menu/Programs shortcut plus an uninstaller as well. That should solve the problems some are having being able to find the executable once installed. :)
You can download the demo from the following link:
http://fly-games.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=30
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternative Games:
There are hundreds of jigsaw puzzles available for free via the internet. This
link to Caimans leads you to just over a hundred different Jigsaw puzzle games all of which are free.
