Falco Brains is an unusual variation of the Match 3 genre.

The horde of drones has invaded earth. They are taking over cities and factories to use for their own self-replication. Play as Joe or Gem and rise up to fight the horde. This is an 8-bit style platformer comprised of eleven levels. Nine in the campaign and two unlockable levels. The gameplay is meant to be fast and challenging with a focus on destroying the enemy units (drones and tanks). You will have to fight a more challenging boss at the end of each level in the campaign. There are two weapons at Joe and Gem's disposal, a briefcase for bashing, and they can turn any mobile into a weapon which remotely destroys the drones.

Each item you are holding = 1 HP so if you have a briefcase and mobile, you can get hit two times before dying. If you get hit once, you lose the mobile, get hit again and lose the briefcase, get hit one more time and you're dead.

Genesis of Drones was inspired by the games I grew up on. I hope you will enjoy it!

Got the key with no problems. I'm glad the giveaway went live again, since I didn't manage to get the key yesterday.

As for the game itself. It's a classic 8-bit platformer with a decent soundtrack. Definetely a nice time killer, but may hurt your keyboard much, because you die. And you die often. I'm stuck on the 3rd level at the moment but will probably beat the game once on a rainy weekend.

You've got two characters to choose from, but the choice doesn't affect the gameplay or the plot (at least by level 3 :P). Both characters can use two types of weapons, a suitcase for close range combat and a mobile phone that shoots radiowaves or something. Both weapons can be collected during the level as you start with no weapons at all. I'm not sure but I think you can beat all the levels (except for boss fights) without killing anyone.

The storyline is pretty straightforward, but I don't think one should expect extreme plot twists from a platformer. I like that the levels are diverse, so you don't get tired of the same landscape. Well, unless you die too frequently. The controls are super easy and customizable.

Personally I'd like to see some differences in the way you play the characters. Something like special moves, or maybe extra levels that you can play only as Joe or only as Gem.

Thumbs up, thanks GOTD and boredmob

Have fun,
Nupraptor :)

It seems that if you try to post a bad review, the moderators do not allow it to be posted. My last post last night was about the key issue. GGOTD, you suck. If the comment is bad, you do not allow it. How unacceptable.

This is a fun game. I was able to download it because of the Steam requirement, so they get a thumbs up as well. Not sure why people have a problem storing their games there, but to each his/her own.

It says "Duplicate product code. The product code you've entered has already been activated by a different steam account." Ran out of licenses?

A 8bit game?Got tired of seeing those kind of graphics in the early '90's lol and when the requirements are "VGA" you know it's simplistic. To bad actually as the storyline sounds like it could be fun if it ran at least modern graphics.
Also like many others haven't been getting steam codes even though I've completed the requirements, so think I'll pass on this one.

IT looks like it could be a fun game. Not a game I would play for hours and hours. But certainly I could pass some time with it while waiting for my wife to get ready. Too bad about the Steam requirement. That is a deal killer for me. Thank you GGOTD team for your efforts.

I successfully completed yesterdays tasks and was informed a Steam key had been sent to my email, nothing ever arrived. I've now successfully submitted the required info for today's Steam key yet no key has been received. This as happened for all but one of the Steam keys I've applied for via this site. I've entered the correct details such as my name and email so why am I not receiving anything?

Hi Stephen Brown,
Thanks for your report, we've forwarded the issue to our tech team. Hopefuly it will be dealt with asap. This is really strange, since most of the users get their keys with no issues. My guess is that it may be due to the email service provider you are using. I've just tested it with gmail, worked perfectly fine.

Thank you.

Stephen Brown,

For some reason the code was sent to my other email address. Are your GGOTD and Steam email addresses the same? Just noticed, mine are not.

From the activation email:
1. Click the Games Menu.
2. Choose Activate a Product on Steam. <--- DOES NOT EXIST AS AN OPTION. Logged out, logged back in, still nothing.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

Games are supposed to be fun. This is a hassle. Please reconsider your approach to offering games. Thank you.

Hi Exploro,
It looks like that you are trying to ativate the game through the Steam website. You need the Steam client app to activate the game. You can download it here (click the green "Install Steam Now" button):

I don't mind these being Steam games, I love that we can have them on there more than just standard giveaways, personally. All your games are in one place. If you lost your hard drive in a crash, download Steam and you have access to all of your games again. I'm glad to not see so many from MyPlayCity because of their games always requiring Admin privileges on my computer to run and throwing more shortcuts, and whatever else, on my computer with permissions to do so.

While I do not mind posting about great games from GGOTD on FB, I prefer to do so because the game is awesome and not because the developer required it. It's intrusive. If I decide to post it and 5 people come here and see that it's mandatory they probably won't download it anyway. You lose patrons when you force it on them. I don't have Twitter. I decided not to get an account just for a game that didn't look all that exciting to begin with.

If you want more patrons coming here to test out these games then you need to grow some cajones and tell the developers how it's going to be. You set rules for them to follow. "We will have them test your game but they are required to only give you their email address for developer newsletters and no spam. Give them an option to later opt out." Something like that. Then come tell us, "New rule. You want a free game, you have to allow the developers to have your email address for newsletters. You can opt out later." We could all create a new email at gmail or yahoo just for GGOTD stuff. That way you'll get 50 accurate game reviews, issues with the games, things that worked for others. The devs get their feedback and possible folks that loved their games, look forward to their newsletters and actually like them. OR Keep it the way it is, where out of 50 comments you have ONE that says "Didn't work on win 10" and the rest complain about hating it.

Limit the keys, we don't care about that. We care about consistency. We don't like to come here and find one day, no game, one day game but you have to do 3 things...or 5, etc. I've done surveys on BFG for years. They email me a game, I play the demo, I fill out a survey on what worked and what did not. I know there are ways to do this right and let devs know how great their game is. If you consistently have accurate reviews about a game, more devs will flood here to give their games.

Also, no offense to the GOTD Team but we miss Stephen/WhiteRabbit. From what you've seen these past couple of weeks that he has to deal with every weekend, that man deserves a raise...if you pay him...not sure how that works. He's super nice, he helps us when there's an issue with things running, he puts his heart into a damn good review before we even download it and his responses are not robot like. It blew my mind you told him to check his junk mail folder for his key, as if he were a 12 year old that didn't work for you or know computers at all.

I've not decided whether or not I'll download the game. I, like many others, are getting tired of the way this place is run. I almost come back every week just to laugh at how poorly things are going. You won't get accurate reviews if you're losing people. You won't get devs if you lose reviews. As my mom would say "pull up your big boy britches, get out there and fix it".

Sorry but I have to say: we were told yesterday by GOTD Team — in a reply to someone complaining that like me, they don't and won't use Steam — to wait for today's offer.

GOTD Team said in so many words yesterday that today's offer WOULD NOT require Steam! So what's going on?

Cad Delworth CEng MBCS CITP,
When did they say that?
I found this statement:
"We are really sorry you won't be able to get this game. Please, check back tomorrow, we will have a giveaway without actions. "
Steam isn't mentioned.
Though I have a Steam account, I would always prefer DRMfree games, when I have to pay for them.
But for giveaways Steam is okay for me.

Reply   |   Comment by graylox  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

graylox, my apologies.

You're quite right; I read "without actions" as "also without Steam." My bad, and apologies also to GOTD Team.

I'm pleased Steam works for you and for the others who use it, but Steam is really REALLY not for me, thanks. I'll get an e-mail off to GOTD as they suggest.

I do think though that the sudden almost-100% shift to giving away Steam licences instead of 'real games' (i.e. download and install locally on your own PC) does make it look uncomfortably like GOTD are being paid by Steam to promote the Steam platform.

It is obvious that far more people download these Steam games than the comments and ratings would indicate. Here it is just a little over 2 and a half hours since today's giveaway started and there are only a little over 14000 licenses left. Not sure how many it started with, but according to another comment, there were 19997 left around 2 hours before my comment is being made.

TO get the game is very straight forward today. You simply need to have a Steam account. Enter your name and email address and the key comes via email. Using the "add a game" option - (for those who are new to Steam, this is found in the lower left hand side of the Steam window) - simply fill in the blank with your key and then download the game. It is small - 51 mb - and installed for me with no problems.

I know there are some that do not like Steam, but I have learned to appreciate it more as time goes by. Steam has it's pluses and minuses, but overall I have been happy with how it continues to improve and offer some great games at great discounts.

The game is very retro. It starts off allowing you to set which keys will serve for running and attacking, jumping, and to pause the game. (This must be done before playing the game each time. I did not see any option to simply accept the defaults and be able to skip this.) You can move up, down, left and right using the W,S,A, and D keys. It allows you to set up three different profiles for the game. The sound is also old school 8-bit and became quite irritating very quickly. You can mute it, but there was no in-game volume control that I could find.

Game play is - well, it's old school 8-bit. It runs smooth on my system with no glitches or hiccups.

I enjoyed it for a few minutes, but I admit that such games do not hold the same level of replay enjoyment they once did for me. Your mileage may vary.

I will more than likely not play this one very much, but I do thank both the developer and GOTD for making it available today.

I noticed in one of the Facebook comments above that someone said it was not a Windows 10 game. This is not true. I use Win 10 Pro, anniversary update. The game loads and plays just fine.

Tried to download it , went to their website , have to register with a third party first & give all your info . I will give this a miss , too many strings involved & complications , what seems a simple thing can turn in to a big timewaster .
