In Brief:
A decent 3D breakout that has never been given away before.

Breakout/arkanoids have been are one of my favourite arcade genres ever since I played the first one ever created by Atari (1976) and the later one by Taito (1986) called Arkanoid. I've purchased hundreds over the last 30+ years. This developer created a few breakouts including Egypt Ball and Gem Ball – Ancient Legends, both of which have been given away here previously.

You can see some videos of game play HERE, HERE and HERE.

Introduction:
Fun & Bullets, a stunning arcade with a nip of logic, takes you to the Wild West where you,
as a cowboy, will have to clean out the range controlled by the Indians with a tennis-like ball, admiring the parody of the clichés specific to the casual genre.
Features:
Game language: English
200 awesome 3D Levels
Pure adrenaline action!
8 different location!
Fantastic special effects
Day or night levels
New brick types through whole play

The Game:
It's a 3D breakout with 200 levels; what's not to like. :)

Fun & Bullets was originally called Cow Ball, an arcade breakout; it received a name change when the developer allowed the game to be given away free on various free game sites like TooMKY games and other free sites. The original game can still be purchased from various outlets.

The theme of the game is the Wild West where you'll become the protagonist who has to literally raze to the ground the settlements you are presented with using a ball and a bat (called a plough)

The aim of the game is to completely remove all the buildings, fences and animals from each level. As you progress you may find the screen looking like a demolition site, with up to several balls or more (depending on what power ups you've picked up) whizzing around the screen destroying cattle pens, fences, walls, castles and other buildings that contain various animals, humans and for those who love to play zombie games, even a scattering of zombies.

When you start the game your ball will move towards the settlements, (there are four different ones each with a day and a night version), and start to destroy whatever it hits; You do have some control over where the ball will go, by allowing it to hit the plough in specific positions. Depending on where the ball hits the plough, it will be reflected back at various angles. Once you get used to where to allow your ball to hit the plough, the more accurate your aim will become, rather than it being a random event; so there is some skill involved in this game; that is, it's not just a chance game.

Aim to complete the level in the shortest possible time. If you miss the ball and it drops below the plough, you will lose a life. Thankfully you can pick up new lives via one of the power ups that drops from various bricks that you hit.

Personally I like the blocking power-up that leaves a barrier at the bottom of the arena below the plough, that stops your ball from being lost. Some of the powerups I think are overly powerful; for example, the triple ball power up. These are often unlocked a few over a short period and you can end up with a lot of balls flying around the arena; that will quickly clear away the level. When this occurs, you can easily complete a level in under a minute; however, on average expect to take up to two minutes or more to clear a level completely (unless you are an expert breakout aficionado). Some items can be left at the end of a level. .

In my opinion, Fun & Bullets is a decent 3D breakout as it does give some challenge, especially to the new or average breakout player. If you are a long time fan of the genre, it may be a little too easy,; however, overall it's still a great game to download and play. Considering it's over a decade old now, the graphic holds up well and the music that accompanies the game, although not something I enjoy, does complement the games theme. You can always turn the music volume to zero if you find it annoying :)

Review by Whiterabbit-uk. Posted 23rd April 2022
Conclusion:
Download Fun & Bullets aka Cow Ball; I'm sure most of the community will enjoy playing it. :) For a 3D breakout, I'd score it a 7.5 out of 10. (My favourite 3D breakouts include Incrediball: The Seven Sapphires, Action Ball and what used to be called Magic Ball 4)

The developer of the original action ball game has recently released the game on Steam HERE . I'm trying to complete the game at the moment (about 250 levels). Action Ball includes a level editor hidden inside the games installed folder. I've been playing it on and off for 15 years since I purchased a copy from Alawar but until the other day never knew there was an editor included as it's not accessible from the main menu.

You'll find a thread over in the giveaway game discussion forums HERE, where I and other community members have listed lots of different breakout/arkanoids, both free and shareware (some links may be dead, but you can still find the games using Google or other search engines); for example, you'll find Ricochet Infinity free via My Abandonware (scroll to the bottom of the links page to see the rest of the free Ricochet games; i.e. Ricochet, Ricochet: Lost Worlds and Ricochet Lost Worlds: Recharged). I've also posted a link in the sticky section of the game discussion forums to a site where you can get thousands of custom made levels HERE for all of the Ricochet games that have the editor included (though you cannot play the levels created by Ricochet Infinity on the earlier versions of the game; but, you can play all of the levels via Ricochet Infinity. If those aren't enough to sate your appetite, you can also get two of my all time favourite breakouts for free called 3-D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night (requires DOSBox) and Breakquest as well as the other versions of 3-D Ultra Pinball (e.g. the first one I purchased called 3-D Ultra Pinball: Thrillride), and almost 200 breakouts from the freeware site Caimans games HERE (169 x 2D games) & (30 x 3D games ) HERE. Another unusual breakout that I'd forgotten about until earlier today (when I was searching for videos of Cow Ball) is MadCowBalls2 that you'll find on Steam HERE and only costs £0.79/$0.99, that even has an online high score table. It's sort of hidden amongst the thousands of other cheap games on Steam, so it's not widely known about and despite buying it around two years ago, had forgotten about it. I came across it originally via Itch.io.

p.s.

I've been looing for a particular breakout that features the voice of comedian Rowan Atkinson who says something whenever you lose a level. I got it as a demo around 15 years ago, but cannot remember the name of the game. If anyone recognises or remembers the name of the game because of the comedians voice (he plays Mr Bean and Black Adder, and for British viewers featured in the comedy sketch show in the late 80's called ''It's not the Nine O Clock news''.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Free or Discounted Games:
Please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies. It's kept up to date frequently, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated). There are a lot of sites that now offer free games such as TooMKY games, MyPlayCity games, Gametop, FreeGamePick and others. One of my favorites that has been around for around twenty years is Caiman's Games, where you'll find thousands of freeware arcade games covering almost every genre I can think of. You can find Caimans games HERE. The site used to be updated every week, but since the founder of Caiman's, Rudy Versele's passing on the Feb 3rd 2010, it's been kept running, but not updated by a collegue of Rudy's. There's a wealth of freeware games that can be found on the site that are well worth checking out.
Steam Games:

For the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' order by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies.
Indie Gala:
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:
1) ... Vroom Racing (Drive a Formula 1 car upon 18 worldwide tracks : Reach 380 Km/h and beat the ghost !)
2) ... Project Restart (An anime visual novel, two versions English & Portuguese)
3) ... King of Dragon Pass (NEW ... A unique mix of RPG and strategy. Create your own epic saga of survival, mythology and diplomacy! Rule your clan, make strategic decisions that affect the game world, win battles and expand your influence in this unique mix of RPG, strategy and story-telling.)
4) ... Beefense ... (ReRUN ... Tower defense game.)
5) ... Lamp Head ... (NEW ... The protagonist of this game is a strange man who needs to breach out of the darkened and dangerous odd place at whatever cost..)
Check the freebie section for the latest additions; if you've not visited for a while, also check the Showcase section for older freebies. All or most new freebies should be on the first page of the Showcase pages. We have been given over 350 games since I started to check the freebie section in 2018. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Control Craft 2, Grab the Bottle, Super Toy cars, Cursed Sight, Pixel Puzzles 2, Spring Bonus, Little Kite, Last Dream, Unhack, Trainpunk Run, Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings, Hamsterdam, Copperbell, Chainsaw Warrior, Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places), Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil.

Any game you claim while it's being offered is DRM free and will remain in your Indie Gala library permanently (unless Indie Gala goes bust) and can be downloaded at any time, under the showcase or freebie section; 118 games are still available. Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam; so, you should grab them as quickly as you can. To find your games go to your account and from the drop down menu select 'My Library'. When the page opens find the 'Showcase' button in the banner along the top of the page and, from the drop down menu select 'Showcase'. There are only 8 games per page, so, if like me you have added hundreds to your account/library. Each page from your free list can take 30 or more seconds to move to the next page so it can take a good twenty minutes to get to the last page depending on how many of the free games you've claimed.
CD Keys:
Another decent site that you should check out regularly is CD Key HERE. They have some very good discounts on top notch AAA games for all the popular platforms (PC, PSN, Xbox, Nintendo), sometimes as much as 99% off. for example Madden NFL 22 is only £0.39 (usually £49.99), Grand Theft Auto V Premium Ed' 84% off (£7.99), Sims 4 85% off (£5.99), Star Wars The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition £1.79 , Dying Light Platinum Edition 92% off (£5.29 - includes 22 of the paid for 26 DLC's, with a further 11 free DLC's available.), Assetto Corsa 83% off (£3.99), Borderlands 2 GOTY Edition 91% off (£2.99), Civilization VI Platinum Edition 91% off (£8.99), Cities Skyline 90% off (£3.09), Hitman GOTY Ed' 92% off (£3.99), Sniper Elite 4 83% off (£6.99), Stellaris 99% off (£0.19), The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series 86% off (£5.49), Battlefield V 85% off (£7.39), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 89% off (£0.79), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II : The Sith Lords 89% off (£0.79), Planet Coaster 83% off (£4.99), Injustice 2 92% off (£3.99), Kerbal Space Program 85% off (£4.49) this is included in the Stand with Ukraine bundle, Fallout 3 GOTY Ed' 80% off (£2.99), Fallout 4 91% off (£3.49), Tekken 7 90% off (£3.99), Garfield Kart: Furious Racing 92% off (£1.09), Dawn of War Franchise Pack 97% off (£3.19 usually £99), Assassins Creed: Unity 91% off (£3.49), Naruto to Boruto Shinobi Striker 95% off (£1.99), Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown Deluxe Edition 86% off (£9.99), Outlast 2 90% off (£2.39), The Escapists 2 85% off (£2.99), Battlefield 1 Revolution 87% off (£7.99), Sniper 2: Ghost Warrior 2 89% off (£0.79), Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 Season Pass Edition 96% off (£1.49), Elite Dangerous 84% off (£3.99), Killing Floor 2 89% off (£2.29), Lego: The Incredibles 93% off (£2.49), Lego: DC Super Villains 93% off (£2.49), Resident Evil Biohazard 90% off (£4.99), Resident Evil HD Remaster 87% off (£3.19), Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 91% off (£4.99), The Evil Within 92% (£2.49), Metro Exodus Gold Edition 83% off (£9.99), Shadow warrior 2 90% off (£3.59), Warhammer 40 000 Space Marine - Anniversary Ed' 93% off (£2.99) plus many more amazing deals.

Be sure to check that keys from CD Keys are redeemable in whichever country you live in (it details where it can be redeemed) as prices and the ability to redeem keys in particular countries may differ. I've quoted prices from the UK pages of CD keys. I recently got an Origin key for Star Wars: Squadrons for 99% off, costing me £0.34; it usually retails for £34.99, I also got 32% off a pre order copy of Dying Light 2 a couple of weeks before it was released in February, saving around £20 off the release price.
Epic Games:
The latest Epic games include the excellent first person horror adventure Amnesia: Rebirth - you are Tasi Trianon, the female protagonist, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

We also get the Hack & Slash dungeon crawler Riverbond - a fun and frantic local couch co-op adventure game for 1 to 4 players set in a stunning voxel world. Embark on a heroic journey to complete missions, battle adorable enemies, and smash everything into tiny cubes!

From 4pm next Thursday 28th April at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting two comedy games; i.e. Just Die Already - an old people mayhem sandbox game created by the designers of Goat Simulator. You are old and angry and you've just been kicked out of your retirement home. How will you survive in a world that wants you to Just Die Already? (remember David Carridine in Deathrace 2000, it's nothing like that) as well as the single player Paradigm - a surreal adventure game set in the strange and post apocalyptic Eastern European country of Krusz. Play as the handsome mutant, Paradigm, whose past comes back to haunt him in the form of a genetically engineered sloth that vomits candy.
Indie Bundles:
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2010 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be, with most of the bundles containing cheap stocking fillers and a lot of 'adult only 'hentai like ' games). The Humble site is, in my opinion, the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games, that used to be called Bundle Stars, looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. Presently Fanatical hosts nine game bundles as well as other software and book bundles
Mystery Egg Bundle
Hany Games Anniversary Bundle
Platinum Collection: Build your own April Bundle
Build your own Easter Bundle
Guardian Bundle 7
Fanatical Favourites -Build your Own Bundle
Rogue Souls Bundle
Build your own Slayer Bundle 5
Build your own Hidden Gems Bundle 2
Build your own Puzzle Bundle
You can find the Fanatical bundles page HERE.

Subscriptions to the Choice bundle have recently been changed, levelling the ground for all subscribers. The monthly cost is a meagre $12/£8.99 with other benefits such as access to a lot of indie titles for free while subscribed and a percentage off other purchases from the Humble store. This discount increases the longer you stay subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. (1 month sub' gives 10% off, 3 months sub' gives 15% off and six months sub 'gives 17% off).

You'll also find Books and Software bundles on the Humble project HERE as well.

The Groupee's group also do game bundles HERE, but they don't have any available at the moment (just a book bundle).
Free Game Project:
I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis; however, I won't be posting them daily this time, only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted. I'll be adding more as and when I have the time or the mood takes me over the coming months.

Amazon Prime Gaming:
If you have Amazon Prime you also get access to a new set of free games every month. The April freebies include the fantastic The Elder Scrolls Oblivion from GOG (You can find loads of mods, addons and other related files over on Nexus mods HERE. ModDB also have many files available for the game (over thirty thousand) HERE (files), HERE (add-ons) and HERE (mods).).

From Origin you get the 3D version of Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neigbourville (I'm really pleased to see this one; I was intending to buy it in the next Steam sale as it's been on my wish list since it's release) . Plus there are several other games from Plug in Digital and Lucas Arts free this month.

On top of those full game freebies there's also a shed load of add-ons and other DLC content for various Free to Play and commercial titles such as GTA V, Overwatch, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Two Point Hospital, The Crew 2, Fall Guys, Blade & Soul, FIFA 22, Madden NFL 22 (the full game was free on Origin last month via Amazon Gaming, now you get some extra stuff to add to the game). Also extra's for Battlefield 2042, Splitgate, Gildwars 2, Black Desert Mobile, Warframe, Doom Eternal and over 20 other titles.

Stay safe everyone.

Whiterabbit-uk,

To my favourite community of gamers; thank you for all your condolences yesterday; it is very much appreciated. What happened was totally unexpected.

Unfortunately I cannot do anything more now until a visa has been approved. I found it annoying that the only way I could apply was online. I spent a good few hours trying to find someone to talk to via the Australian embassy in the hope that I could speed things up, trying to explain that my visit was on compassionate grounds, but was met with a wall of silence at every turn. I just have to wait for my application to be seen and accepted before I can book a flight. I was hoping to travel first class or business class because of my disabilities, but on checking the prices I was shocked as they several times more expensive than regular seats, so I can forget both of those. The last time I flew to Turkey I ended up with a DVT, so I'm a little worried as the flight is around a day.

Hopefully the visa will come through a few days before the funeral (which hasn't been announced yet). I will continue to moderate until I have to leave. (Assuming all works out the way I hope).

pnj,

Hi pnj,

I stopped relying on the emails years ago for this same reason. It's just a squick to check the site out than go to your email and check to see what the game is. I keep a link in my quick access so it only takes a second to enter the site.

Whiterabbit-uk, Yes, thank you, makes sense. SH would have deduced it but plainly I did not. Unrelated: maybe consider half an aspirin tablet once a day with full glass of water.

After the adjustments outlined in my reply to Phil, the game works well. It's a fun change of theme from the other games in this genre that I have played which have all been space or the Egypt series which name escapes me ATM. I don't play these often but the little bit that I have played left me looking forward to get further into this. That in itself is praise!

Thanks to all who facilitated this giveaway. Stephen, I was not around yesterday so did not see your post then. My condolences on your loss.

Tried it, sometimes I like those kind of games, but can't rate it, because I can't solve the cursor issue. First it needed me to load Direct Play just to open the file. So I did that and that wont work unless you restart the computer.
Restarted and tried it, nope cursor going crazy, it was a min game just to exit, waiting for the cursor to land on the exit button! XD
Ok tried windows compatibility troubleshooter, it said win8, ran that, nope, same issue. Tried the vista service pack 2 as recommended above, and the cursor jumped a little bit less, a little less random directions, but still not workable for a game where cursor position is critical. Ran the troubleshooter again, it still insists Win8 is what it needs, but it doesnt work, so I tried choosing run at 640x480, and that made no difference.
Im tired of trying, and I have win 10, not 11, so I will let it go.
Hope it's fun for those who can get it to work.

Sorry about your issues, White Rabbit, I didn't see yesterday's comments. My sympathies on your loss.

C Taunton,

I has similar issues. No problem for me though. I will just wait for the next game to come around.

I had no issues running this on Windows 10. However I noticed a small amount of mouse lag when playing this game. Theme is actually pretty awesome. Never discovered it before until today. Thanks for the Steam tip I may have to check it out again if it's that cheap.

laplap,
Solved. Run in compatibility mode Vista service pack 2.

Phil K,

Please see Laplaps reply. Hopefully compatibility settings will solve the issue. If not, try setting the game to a different resolution via the options menu; failing that, try changing the monitors resolution temporarily via the Display settings (right click on your desktop)

"Cursor won't settle its jumping all over the place, not settling"

With Win11, a 1080p display, & just Windows mouse drivers [no Logitech or Corsair etc.], the game, which uses the old Blitz engine, stretched from its original 4:3 aspect to the screen's 16:9, with very significant mouse lag -- barely touch it & after a delay it jumps. In Options it shows it's at 800 x 600 rez, & while it shows 1024 x 768 as a choice, it wouldn't let me choose it. Clicking Full-Screen did work, but after restarting the game it opens in a non-stretched window that cannot be maximized. The mouse however worked normally. While compatibility was set to Vista svc pk 2, I did not try other settings -- you **may** have some luck for example disabling full screen optimization, though if it worked, it **might** have the same stretched screen. I also didn't go looking for a configuration file -- there *might* be an editable configuration file under Users, & editing it *might* force things like the 1024 x 768 rez.

Phil K,
Right click on the game's Shortcut then, Properties> Compatibility> "Change high DPI setting" and check "Override High scaling...", OK, Apply. Once in the game, in the Options menu there is an option to "Adjust Mouse Sensitivity". I had to turn that almost all the way down. FYI, I am running Win10X64Home.
I hope that helps.
