For those having a problem getting today's game to work, please read Marks comment below. He has found that it's probably related to Direct X. A link is provided by Mark.
Frozen Kingdom
Frozen Kingdom is an old but decent match three game with two modes of play, relaxed and timed, plus four ways of matching tiles via the buttons along the bottom of the game table. There are bonus rounds after each match three round that earn you various power ups that are accumulative and more points; so, the more bonus rounds you play the more power ups you can earn or purchase via the lab. These bonus rounds can be skipped if you wish, but are well worth completing if you like using power ups. The first power up earned is the bomb, which allows you to remove one tile from the board, the second is a rocket that removes a full line of tiles. Bonus rounds involve moving certain tiles to the bottom of the table. The red arrows in the bottom left of the game screen allows you to turn the table either clockwise or anti-clockwise. You can buy power ups and equipment for your lab via the lab button using the points you earn from completing levels.
If you have a multi screen set up, you may find the desk top icons from the monitor where the game is displayed, displaced onto the screens that are not being used by the game; however, these icons should return to their normal positions once you close the game down. If you have any issues getting the game to run, select the compatibility tab from the properties window (to open up properties right click on the games shortcut and scroll down to the bottom where you'll find properties.

Tried to start it, got a missing dll error, and then deleted it.

Forgot to say in my previous comment, nothing more to do but restart entire computer, losing all of my unsaved work. NOT happy.

Even with DirectX installed, this game is awful. It tied up my entire system and put itself at the very front of the screen. When I tried to close it through task manager, the task manager was stuck behind the blank, black, non-functional game screen.

Kinda sad... this game is seriously buggypants... when it doesn't lock up it's actually quite fun to play. But then you move a tile and... it all locks up. You CAN exit the game and re-enter it, but when you do that, instead of re-starting the level you were on and letting you play it again or even just continue from where you were, it just ends that level, gives you a bonus item (which you didn't really earn) and goes on to the next level... which more than likely will lock up.

Oh... and every time you exit, it hits the 404 error on the Toomey site (the error is that a page is missing on their site, nothing to do with YOUR computer at all), and it opens Internet Explorer (which I NEVER use) to tell you there was an error on the site. So you have to close several windows and apps before you can get back to trying to play the game.

Maybe it's just trying to play an older game on Windows 10... who knows.
The game is fun... as long as you can actually play it.

Can't get it to work, tried uninstalling and reinstalling but all it will do is open a webpage with 404 Error. Page not found. shame but its what it is.

Ah . . . this game looked interesting, nicely designed. But sadly - after trying all the suggestions given here - it won't work. Not even on Windows 7!

I'm on Windows 10, ordinary laptop, quite new, but the game doesn't like it. Oh well . . . virtually everything I've downloaded from here has worked, so this must be a one-off. I hope!

I'll keep the download for the day in case of brilliant suggestions later, but for now - I guess Work has to be done instead! Thanks for so many other gifts which have done their duty. :-D

The shortcut that is added to the desktop seems to be the cause of the program not starting correctly. Right click on the shortcut on the desktop and select Properties, then select the shortcut tab then select " Open File Location " three quarters down shortcut tab page. Once inside the folder that the game was installed in, find the file named " Game.exe " Right click on this file and select " Run as administrator " The game should now open and run correctly. After you verified this procedure has resolved the issue, you may make a shortcut to the " Game.exe " file and name the shortcut to the name of the game and you are good to go.

Regards
Wayne D

P.S. I always install the game in a game folder I have created on the root of the hard drive. Example: C:\Games. When installing the games I always point the game installer to this folder. The " Program Files " folder location can be picking on what programs will run from this folder.

Wayne D, I always use a file in Windows user and I tried your solution, but it didn't work for me. Thanks for helping though.

No problem installing on Win 10 64 bit. It's a twist on the match 3 games. I created a profile, however, it does not save it on exiting. I lost all the levels I had played. Not sure what to do about that. I am going to reboot and see if that changes anything, but it's not fun if it doesn't save your game!

Fun to play as it has mini-games and twists. :-)

I did reboot with the hopes it would save my game upon exiting. No, it did not! It was fun to play. A little different twist on the match 3 game.

I will need to uninstall it though. :-(

Sunnie, I ran the compatibility troubleshooter first, since I knew it was an older game. I just played through the 3rd level, closed the game and reopened it. It opened at the 3rd level right where I left off. So I think this step will fix the problem you're seeing with not saving the game.

Buster Brown, Did you use the "profile" already there, or make your own? I made my own and it did not save. I will try the compatibility changes and see if that helps. Thanks

I downloaded it fine but then got the same errors as everyone else - I tried it on all the troubleshooter settings but nothing worked. I gave up and uninstalled it. Never mind - you can't win them all, thanks for all the many games that have installed and played just fine.

The program can't start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
Well.. I did reinstall.. twice and I get the same error. Also, in the game folder, there's another zip file. (FK.zip) Was it supposed to extract during the install?

Reply   |   Comment by Opal  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Opal, I had the same problem but I managed to sort it by downloading d3dx9_43.dll from the following website:

https://www.dll-files.com/d3dx9_43.dll.html

What you need to do is download the 32-bit version, unzip it, then copy d3dx9_43.dll into the folder where the game has installed. It runs OK then. (As I'm using a 64-bit Operating System I did try downloading the 64-bit version of the file, but this did NOT allow the game to run.)

Opal, upon a little sleuthing, I found the problem to be related to DirectX.

To fix - go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 and select the big red [download] button.

Then install/re-install and re run the game and it should then work.

Mark, Thank you so much - it works! I've tried every way I could think of plus a few more, but I was about to give up and uninstall. But I saw your post just in time (thanks to the lovely Whiterabbit) - and after installing DirectX and then (for the third time) the game - it works!

I've only had time for a quick test-drive, but all seems to be well, and it is indeed pleasant to look at, and another good little tea-break time waster. I don't really go in for the kind of game that takes over your life for a year. All I want is something that I can play through a few rounds while having a break, so Match-3 games are always on my look-out list. This one is pretty and easy on the eye, so I'm sure it will stay on my hard drive for a good while. Thank you to all concerned in another goodie! That means GGAOTD, Toomky, Whiterabbit of course - and this time, Mark as well. Thank you, one and all!

hi
upon downloading the game it is not working
it comes as error 404
can you please look into this

Reply   |   Comment by mohan  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

mohan,

There is nothing wrong with the files that are downloaded. I was able to install the game on a Win 10 Pro system.
Are you saying you cannot download the game? If you are not able to download; try using a different browser such as Waterfox or Firefox.
If you've managed to download the game, Go into compatibility mode via properties and check the run this program as an administrator, also check the 640 x 480 screen resolution check box. If that doesn't fix the issue, try checking other boxes or change the high DPI settings.

thank you

mohan,

Also, because the game is wrapped in a Themida code, your security may block the installation. This is becasue Themida code can also be used to hide malware; so, some security suites will block anything with Themida code as a precaution. There are three things you can do to overcome this.
1) ... White-list the giveaway files with your security software.

2) ... reboot in safe mode with networking, install the game, then reboot as normal.

3) ... Temporarily turn off your security(this is the quickest method), install the game, then reboot your security.
Just to assure you, the game giveaway team have been giving games away regularly since 2006 and have never given away a game infected with malware.

Whiterabbit-uk, I had the same problem. Game downloaded and appeared to install OK. When run it goes to a web page with an error 404 page, but nothing else happens. I tried changing to run the program as an administrator, but exactly the same. As it did not actually run there was no opportunity to change any settings. Most odd, never had this sort of problem before.

Reply   |   Comment by Barbara  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Barbara,

Ah yes, it's just occurred to me after I'd closed the game down; I received the same 404 message. This is a game from one of the free game sites, so they include software in the installed game that opens your browser to the game site. This is so that they can earn money via the adverts on the pages, part of which goes to the developer of the game. However, the shortcut that is included in the installed game that redirects your browser is incorrect, so send you to a page that no longer exists. This shouldn't stop you from playing the game.

If, as Mohan said, you also cannot play the game, try going into compatibility settings via properties

properties

i.e. right click on the games shortcut or via the game executable and select properties, this opens a properties window. Click on the compatibility tab and check one or more of the boxes. This may be a trial and error situation. I had no problems getting the game to work, so haven't had to go to compatibility settings.

Whiterabbit-uk,

"Click on the compatibility tab and check one or more of the boxes. This may be a trial and error situation."

When you right-click the game's .exe file you can also click Troubleshoot compatibility -- it's also available on the Properties Compatibility tab. That *may* cut down on some of the trail & error.
