The Game:
Review 1:
Deep in the heart of an enchanted forest, a forbidden love blooms. Eveline and Aurelio are not of the same people, but their love is pure and has the power to bring peace to a divided world. Then Aurelio's own - a race of were-cats who can take human form - kidnap him and plan his execution. Guide the human Eveline as she sets out to rescue her beloved from the clutches of a tyrant, learns the truth about magic and discovers her extraordinary destiny!
Forest-Legends004

Forest-Legends005
With each step through the ambitious Forest Legends: The Call of Love, you will explore a world teeming with stunning visual detail and mesmerizing sounds and music. From a dancing scarecrow, to a trapped pixie, to a healer with a secret, you will also meet and interact with a host of intriguing characters. And you will solve dozens of cunning puzzles as you find and figure out how to use countless objects. Epic in scope and exploring themes of love and belief, Forest Legends will captivate you from beginning to end. Can you hear the call?

Forest Legends: The Call of Love is a satisfactory fairy tale with some genuinely enjoyable puzzles. The narrative is a clichéd affair, depicting forbidden romance, the call to adventure, parental confusion, and grand destiny; it’s very much a Disney movie mixed with Romeo and Juliet. Nevertheless, the fantastical setting and quirky conundrums will prove more than enough to keep you playing.

You adopt the role of a human princess who has fallen head over high-heels for a were-cat, a race which the uprights are at war with. After being caught meeting with your fluffy lover, your father shoots and wounds the flashy feline, forcing him to flee into the forest. Back at your castle, the punctured pussy puts in an appearance, and it’s from there that your quest truly begins.

At its core, this game is all about gathering items and solving puzzles – and it succeeds in that area. The point-and-click mechanics are intuitive, the brainteasers are considerately designed, and a well implemented hint system keeps you moving forwards. Unfortunately, the title is plagued by horrendous voice acting. While the narrator sets the scene fairly well, you’ll shudder at the protagonist and her lover’s lines. Worse still, the animation is awful, as inoffensive art is contorted to show character emotion.

Forest-Legends007
Fortunately, the background sketches are much more agreeable. Beautifully crafted vistas peppered with dark forest paths and clearings look incredible, and visibly sheen with particle effects and slick lighting. You’ll spend the majority of your time inspecting these images, too, as you click on objects and search for things to interact with. Each location feels alive due to the above mentioned sparkles and subtle wildlife animations. It’s all rather absorbing.

You’ll happen upon many environments as you work your way through the game, with each chapter introducing a new locale made up of several scenes. Cracking the puzzles you’ll find in these is a case of searching each area for items, and then using what you’ve found. For example, you may uncover a key to pop in a chest, or gems and crests that need to be added to other objects as part of a thread of challenges. The solutions are seldom convoluted or illogical: once you’ve fully examined a puzzle, you’ll know exactly how to solve it. And if you’re still stuck, there’s a handy hint system to help you.

For starters, if you don’t click on anything for a while, the game will highlight any artifacts of interest that you may have overlooked. If that doesn’t work, then you can summon your baby dragon companion, who will breathe a circle of fire onto the screen showing you where to search. Your reptilian accomplice will need to rest once you’ve used him, but if you find a floating ball of fire, you can skip this cool down period. Of course, if you plump up for the ‘Advanced’ difficulty tier, you’ll get no tips whatsoever.
Forest-Legends008

Forest-Legends009
Regardless, approximately four hours after starting the adventure, it’ll all be over – and considering the price point, that’s a bit unfortunate. There is a bonus chapter set several years after the events of the main story, and while this will allow you to prolong your quest just a little longer, you will have to put up with more ear-shattering voice acting throughout.

Forest Legends: The Call of Love is a short but solid point-and-click adventure. Its story is nothing new, its character animations are atrocious, and the voice actors will assault your ears at every opportunity – but there are enough fun puzzles and beautiful vistas stored within here to make the call of love just about worth answering.

Review 2:
Ages ago, humans lived alongside a magical species of cat-like folk known as the Felizes. Everything was all flowers and rainbows for awhile, but as you might have guessed, something eventually went wrong. A great war broke out, with humans driving the Felizes away and banning all forms of magic. But love conquers all, or so the saying goes, and despite the animosity between species, a woman falls in love with a Felize. It seems like things are just starting to get good when a group of hunters appears, guns raised, ready to rid the world of the werecat you love.
Forest-Legends010

Forest-Legends011
Forest Legends: The Call of Love is a casual adventure title created by the well-known Alawar Stargaze team. The game weaves a tense plot that centers around a forbidden romance, placing you in the heroine’s shoes as she rushes to save her beloved. The forest is filled with all kinds of strange creatures and enchanted beings, everything from a bug that beeps like a pager to a scarecrow tree that is guaranteed to give you nightmares. No matter what magical corner of the woods you’re poking through, however, Forest Legends is a gorgeous, easy to play game.

Forest Legends does a nice job giving you room to explore, spreading things out over a handful of scenes instead of boxing you in place. Puzzle solutions often require items found half a dozen screens away, creating a collect-stash-experiment mentality that encourages you to stay on the move. Also, collectible items and clickable points of interest blend in well with the background. To find what you need, you have to click on just about everything. It’s a little unconventional, but oh-so-satisfying thanks to the game’s luscious visuals.

There are no standard hidden object scenes in Forest Legends. Instead, the game is stuffed with mini-games and puzzles that sit outside of the normal flow of the adventure. Each time you plug an item into something you’ll need to complete a mini-game. These diversions are easy to understand but difficult to solve, presenting familiar elements mixed in unique ways. For example, you might stumble across what looks like a traditional Towers of Hanoi swapping puzzle. The pieces move in the same manner, but to actually solve it, you have to make a logical leap to match tiles with pictures surrounding the board, not just swap them all in place. It makes perfect sense the moment you look at it, but getting it done still requires some work.
Forest-Legends012

Forest-Legends013
Forest Legends: The Call of Love stumbles a little when it comes to story and voice acting. Both are a bit on the saccharine side, cheesy enough to make you roll your eyes but not so cringe worthy that you can’t keep playing. Certain audiences will eat up the forbidden romance angle, but for others it won’t be enough to hold their interest. Fortunately the game itself is a solid piece of puzzle solving entertainment.

Conclusion:
The graphic is good with decent animations and lots of well made mini games. xcellent visuals and animations. If you enjoy HOG's, this is one to download if you don't already have it from the last time this was given away a couple of years ago.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Free or Discounted Games:
Please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE (non-Steam games) and HERE (Steam games) for the latest freebies. It's kept up to date frequently, (thanks for keeping this up to date Delenn, very much appreciated). There are a lot of sites that now offer free games such as TooMKY games, MyPlayCity games, Gametop, FreeGamePick and others. One of my favorites that has been around for around twenty years is Caiman's Games, where you'll find thousands of freeware arcade games covering almost every genre I can think of. You can find Caimans games HERE. The site used to be updated every week, but since the founder of Caiman's, Rudy Versele's passing on the Feb 3rd 2010, it's been kept running, but not updated by a collegue of Rudy's. There's a wealth of freeware games that can be found on the site that are well worth checking out.
Steam Games:

For the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' order by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB (the Steam database) with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green and those in blue are on your wish list. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see the percentage off as 100%. It's worth checking this regularly to make sure you don't miss the best deals and freebies.
Indie Gala:
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; the most recent additions include:
1) ... Vroom Racing (Drive a Formula 1 car upon 18 worldwide tracks : Reach 380 Km/h and beat the ghost !)
2) ... Project Restart (An anime visual novel, two versions English & Portuguese)
3) ... King of Dragon Pass (NEW ... A unique mix of RPG and strategy. Create your own epic saga of survival, mythology and diplomacy! Rule your clan, make strategic decisions that affect the game world, win battles and expand your influence in this unique mix of RPG, strategy and story-telling.)
4) ... Beefense ... (ReRUN ... Tower defense game.)
5) ... Lamp Head ... (NEW ... The protagonist of this game is a strange man who needs to breach out of the darkened and dangerous odd place at whatever cost..)
Check the freebie section for the latest additions; if you've not visited for a while, also check the Showcase section for older freebies. All or most new freebies should be on the first page of the Showcase pages. We have been given over 350 games since I started to check the freebie section in 2018. But around 60% of those are no longer available free. The following recent freebies have now been removed from the free library: Control Craft 2, Grab the Bottle, Super Toy cars, Cursed Sight, Pixel Puzzles 2, Spring Bonus, Little Kite, Last Dream, Unhack, Trainpunk Run, Pixel Puzzles 2: Paintings, Hamsterdam, Copperbell, Chainsaw Warrior, Leisure Suit Larry 2 Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places), Leisure Suit Larry 1 - In the Land of the Lounge Lizards , Figment, Pixel Puzzles 2: Space, Revolution Ace, Six Sides of the World, Byte Family, Alone on Mars, Garfield Kart, Nostradamus the Last Prophecy, Snowball, Pixel Puzzles 2: Christmas , Die Young (Full version), Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner, and Contract with the Devil.

Any game you claim while it's being offered is DRM free and will remain in your Indie Gala library permanently (unless Indie Gala goes bust) and can be downloaded at any time, under the showcase or freebie section; 118 games are still available. Not all games that go into the showcase remain free and are removed after a short period; e.g. the recent adventure puzzler Figment that costs almost £15 on Steam; so, you should grab them as quickly as you can. To find your games go to your account and from the drop down menu select 'My Library'. When the page opens find the 'Showcase' button in the banner along the top of the page and, from the drop down menu select 'Showcase'. There are only 8 games per page, so, if like me you have added hundreds to your account/library. Each page from your free list can take 30 or more seconds to move to the next page so it can take a good twenty minutes to get to the last page depending on how many of the free games you've claimed.

Be sure to check that keys from CD Keys are redeemable in whichever country you live in (it details where it can be redeemed) as prices and the ability to redeem keys in particular countries may differ. I've quoted prices from the UK pages of CD keys. I recently got an Origin key for Star Wars: Squadrons for 99% off, costing me £0.34; it usually retails for £34.99, I also got 32% off a pre order copy of Dying Light 2 a couple of weeks before it was released in February, saving around £20 off the release price.
Epic Games:
The latest Epic games include the excellent first person horror adventure Amnesia: Rebirth - you are Tasi Trianon, the female protagonist, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

We also get the Hack & Slash dungeon crawler Riverbond - a fun and frantic local couch co-op adventure game for 1 to 4 players set in a stunning voxel world. Embark on a heroic journey to complete missions, battle adorable enemies, and smash everything into tiny cubes!

From 4pm next Thursday 28th April at 4pm UK/11am Eastern we will be getting two comedy games; i.e. Just Die Already - an old people mayhem sandbox game created by the designers of Goat Simulator. You are old and angry and you've just been kicked out of your retirement home. How will you survive in a world that wants you to Just Die Already? (remember David Carridine in Deathrace 2000, it's nothing like that) as well as the single player Paradigm - a surreal adventure game set in the strange and post apocalyptic Eastern European country of Krusz. Play as the handsome mutant, Paradigm, whose past comes back to haunt him in the form of a genetically engineered sloth that vomits candy.
Indie Bundles:
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2010 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites (though the latter isn't as good as it used to be, with most of the bundles containing cheap stocking fillers and a lot of 'adult only 'hentai like ' games). The Humble site is, in my opinion, the best; though a more recent addition that is worth checking out called Fanatical games, that used to be called Bundle Stars, looks to be a serious contender for that title as they have some very good bundles. Presently Fanatical hosts nine game bundles as well as other software and book bundles
Mystery Egg Bundle
Hany Games Anniversary Bundle
Platinum Collection: Build your own April Bundle
Build your own Easter Bundle
Guardian Bundle 7
Fanatical Favourites -Build your Own Bundle
Rogue Souls Bundle
Build your own Slayer Bundle 5
Build your own Hidden Gems Bundle 2
Build your own Puzzle Bundle

The monthly cost is a meagre $12/£8.99 with other benefits such as access to a lot of indie titles for free while subscribed and a percentage off other purchases from the Humble store. This discount increases the longer you stay subscribed up to a year with 20% off all none bundle purchases. Free Game Project:
I've restarted a project I originally started back in 2008 that used to be called Good Games to Grab, where I posted free games over in the forums on a daily basis; however, I won't be posting them daily this time, only as and when I have time and the inclination. You can find the new forum section entitled 'Free Game Project' HERE. So far, I've posted eight excellent PC games, plus one android game as well as suggested or linked to others similar to the ones posted. I'll be adding more as and when I have the time or the mood takes me over the coming months.

Amazon Prime Gaming:
If you have Amazon Prime you also get access to a new set of free games every month. The April freebies include the fantastic The Elder Scrolls Oblivion from GOG (You can find loads of mods, addons and other related files over on Nexus mods HERE. ModDB also have many files available for the game (over thirty thousand) HERE (files), HERE (add-ons) and HERE (mods).).

From Origin you get the 3D version of Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neigbourville (I'm really pleased to see this one; I was intending to buy it in the next Steam sale as it's been on my wish list since it's release) . Plus there are several other games from Plug in Digital and Lucas Arts free this month.

On top of those full game freebies there's also a shed load of add-ons and other DLC content for various Free to Play and commercial titles such as GTA V, Overwatch, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Two Point Hospital, The Crew 2, Fall Guys, Blade & Soul, FIFA 22, Madden NFL 22 (the full game was free on Origin last month via Amazon Gaming, now you get some extra stuff to add to the game). Also extra's for Battlefield 2042, Splitgate, Gildwars 2, Black Desert Mobile, Warframe, Doom Eternal and over 20 other titles.

Stay safe everyone.

It's a great game and I've had a terrific time playing it until I hit the impossible mirror puzzle that blows up the game. But I found out here and elsewhere that you can skip that puzzle and finish the game. So that's where I'm going after this...

This game is pretty decent for a hidden object game. However the zooming in and out kind of has that nauseating effect to the game. I guess I need to have a few cups of coffee to get used to it!

So far, so good; installed on Win10 fine and running well. But one question: I looked at the previous comments from a couple of years ago, and people were having an issue when reaching a point with "mirrors" and the advice was to make sure to skip that puzzle or the game will crash. Is that still the case (I'm not there yet, but don't want to run into trouble.) Thanks, and otherwise, pretty good game though the puzzles are pretty easy and straightforward.

It worked fine with the mirrors on win11

neme, I too encountered crashing when clicking on the arrows in the mirror segment. Skipping allowed me to continue the game. Windows 10.

Claire, Exacly, same for me. Quite frustrating when one is so close to completing the game. Very disappointing.
