Flying Umbrella:

In Brief:
Flying Umbrella is a 2d pixel art platforming game that features a girl holding an umbrella that moves with the wind. Learn to control her body using the WASD keys (these also affect the wind direction) and get to the bus before it leaves. However, before you can go to the bus you must collect all of the berries she dropped before you can catch the bus.

Catch it in time and you'll proceed to the next of thirty levels Though I couldn't see a countdown timer for the bus leaving, and every time i played the bus never left, so not sure if it does. Avoid the various traps and animals, but the only problem with the wooden crates are they get in the way as they fly around with the wind.

Once you've picked up all of the berries (indicated in the top left of the screen) , get to the bus as quickly as possible. Levels have different numbers of berries to pick up from four to six.

Each time you fail you start from the same level again; the only different being the indicator at the bottom right tells you how many times you've failed that level. It resets to 1 when you move on to the next level.

There are various weather effects such as rain and hurricanes that make it very difficult to succeed.

Controls:

W & S or Up and Down arrow keys = Access the menus
Enter = Activate menu item
Esc = Return to main menu from Options
WASD = move the girl/ control the wind

While in options you can toggle full screen/windowed, language from English to Russian and toggle both the music and sound on and off. While in a level you can return to the main menu via a resume/restart screen by pressing Escape then selecting the correct item in the menu e.g. Options. Main Menu, Restart & Resume. Use the enter key to activate all menu items.

The game has a very limited partial controller support, i.e. you can use the D-Pad to move up and down in each menu and activate a menu item by using the A button, but you cannot return to the previous menu without using the keyboards Esc key. that's the extent of the controllers use with this game. Pity as I think it would have made the game slightly easier to play.

Conclusion:
Flying Umbrella is actually quite challenging. With the gusts of wind and hurricane weather, it's almost impossible to avoid some of the flying debris. I love the art style and will be keeping this one. I failed miserably in the time I had to check this out, but enjoyed the challenge. One of the positives for this game is that is supports a controller and keyboard controls. There are two negatives to this game, the firs tone is the appalling music, but thankfully it can be toggled off. The second negative however is more serious. Whenever you leave the game it does not save your progress, instead you have to start from level one again. Whether anyone will be able to get to level 30, I don't know, but I failed miserably. It took me nine attempts just to get past level 2.

The game would be much improved if the developer included the ability to create profiles, making it more family and friends friendly as well as a save function so that you don't have to constantly go back to the beginning every time you play the game. Even though I enjoyed the game play, it's basically very simple with only a few key bindings to remember, I doubt I'll ever totally complete it, but you never know. :)
