Flying Propeller is another game from Laush Dmitriy Sergeevich who gave us all those test your knowledge games back in April and more recently Round Mars, 3D Gravity Rockets and Defense to Death.
The game is a 2D top down bullet hell survival shooter with hand drawn pixel graphics. The colours are over saturated giving the impression of a kaleidoscope of colour during your bullet hell experience. This may put some players off, but personally I love it (in small doses). An ideal game for those 10 minute coffee breaks; any longer I'd it gets a little boring as there is little variation in game play..
The controls are simple (unfortunately you cannot remap them) i.e. WASD for moving forwards, back and sideways. To shoot your weapon use the LMB and to activate your temporary shield use the space bar. To progress to the next level you have to survive a few minutes of bullet hell, picking up various power ups (loads of them appear during each level) that give you multiple guns firing in different directions.
The giveaway teams description and screen captures above should give adequate information about today's giveaway. It's planned release date on Steam is the 28th July, so no community reviews are available yet; however, you can see a video of game play via the Steam store page HERE.

Useful Information not related to today's game giveaway
Don't forget to check out the giveaway forums. Delenn has usually posted the latest freebies. The latest games are now available from Epic Games and include Next Up Hero - (A dungeon crawler featuring hand-drawn heroes that hack, slash, bongo-drum, boomerang, and jet their way through Ventures) and Tacoma - (An Abandoned Space Station. A Mysterious AI. And You. The crew of Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma were going about their workaday lives when disaster threw them into chaos); both games would normally cost you almost £30/$40/€37, but are free all week. Next Thursday 30th July we get three more games; i.e. 20XX (A rogue-like action platformer), Barony (A first-person rogue-like with co-op) and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP (A point & click story rich pixel fantasy with a female protagonist). The total cost to buy these would be over £27/$37/€33
Just pop over to the game discussion threads HERE and HERE for links to most of the free games.
The Indie Gala developers freebies are available HERE (latest additions) and HERE (81 games in the Showcase, most full versions). Recent additions include Snow White Solitaire Charmed Kingdom, Adam Wolfe (Complete Edition), Spirit of Xanadu and three games from !C's catalogue of RTS (real time strategy) games: Real Warfare 1242 - (the Mongol Horde attack the huge sate of Russia during the XIII century, the game is based on authentic historical events), Cuban Missile Crisis: Ice Crusade - (what if the Cuban missile crisis had resulted in a World War III) and Theatre of War - (a real-time tactical strategy title depicting the most significant battles of World War II during 1939-1945.), plus a couple I've previously missed in the showcase section called Temper Tantrum and Last Man Standing).
Please Stay Safe everyone

I don't wish to be alarmist but, having downloaded many games and programs from Gamegiveaway over the years, I am surprised to find some recent games being identified by full AVG as containing malware threats.
The latest today is Flying Propeller which prompted "infected with Win32:Malware-gen" from "files2.giveawayoftheday.com" and will not allow me to install it.
From a brief search it appears that Win32:Malware-gen is a threat and not a false positive.
I would be grateful if someone could reassure me that the downloads are indeed safe.
Regards to all.

Pablo,

Hi Pablo,
It's a false positive. What your full version of AVG is picking up is the non malicious adware that is packaged with all Falcoware Games via its installer (the red and white application file within the installed games folder). These games are commercial games that are being given away for free after the developer has agreed to allow Falcoware (and possibly other free game distributors) to offer them for free because the 'non-malicious' adware earns them money. Every time you boot up the game you will get an advert while the delayed boot up is starting; (it takes about 20 to 30 seconds) then when you close the game down, your browser is opened and redirected to the distributors web site where you will see other adverts on the page. The money earned from these adverts is split between the developer and distributor. It has become a regular model for free game sites over the past decade since the financial crisis of 2008, where many small and some major game development houses went into liquidation. Casual arcade games pre-crisis used to cost $19.99 each, post crisis the price dropped to around $7 each. AAA developers responded by releasing unfinished games, then adding lots of DLC content to complete the games and boost the price of their games; for example, if you purchased all of the (often useless) DLC for later Call of Duty games, you'd be paying approaching $200 for each release. Other simulation games such as Microsoft's old Flight Sim X and Dovetails Train Simulator games will cost you literally thousands of dollars if you wanted all of the DLC released for those games. for example presently to buy Train Sim 2020 with all DLC would cost you over $8000 (just for one game)
Nothing is installed to your system that is malicious. The adware is self contained within the Falcoware installer, that also boots up the game.
I've installed virtually every Falcoware game given away via the Gamegiveawayoftheday since Falcoware started giving games away Monday to Friday back in November 2018 and have never had any issues. I hope the above explanation allays your fears.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Thank you for your comprehensive and reassuring explanation for the non malicious adware identified by my AVG program. I am sure that this will be of benefit to any others who have experienced similar false positives.

I will now, with confidence, disable my AVG temporarily, download and install the game and continue to enjoy all that gamegiveaway provides for us.

Again, thank you for your reassuring comments.

Regards.
