I'll tidy up the following and post some images later:

This was originally given away 1st June 2007 where it received a positive 82% from 289 votes with 130 comments. I was away on an early vacation at the time so didn't post my usual review. The developer took on board many suggestions from the giveaway community and ended up releasing twenty or so upgraded versions, which he gave away via his web site so long as you had the original version from the game giveawayoftheday. This is the only developer I know of who did this. You can see the original giveaway HERE and the sequel Flowers Story: Fairy Quest which was given away 29th Dec 2007, HERE

One of the regular reviewers at the time called Merril posted the following:
Oh this is SO gorgeous!! Flower's Story downloaded and installed perfectly and I have had no technical troubles playing the game at all. From the very first screen that creates a cursor trail of magic (that, er, I spent a bit too long sprinkling around into my name and the shape of butterflies......) I knew that this was going to be just lovely - and I was so not wrong!

The game tells the story of a little girl called Flower and a magical birthday she has. I won't say anything else as learning the story is part of the fun and pleasure of playing the game and each game can be saved so you know where you are up to in the abundant 90 levels. The graphics are just enchanting, simply enchanting and the game itself, much, much more than a "match 3" game as you have to make up "bouquets" of flowers in different formations is intriguing, not easy as the levels progress and relaxing to play.

Attention to detail is extreme in this game and from the stream of magic and fireworks as you finish a level to the expressions on character's faces, the artists who have worked on this have obviously put in so much thought and hard work. Even the default High Score names are set into magical type names such as "Moon", which may be confusing as I want to call myself that!!

The game is controlled by the mouse which is great as recently I have been sad to read that some people were missing out due to not being able to play the keyboard-only games. The game welcomes you by your name which gives a real personal feel to play and throughout you are told what to do and different features are pointed out - ideal and ingenious, saving you from trying to memorise commands beforehand and teaching you as you go along.

The game is somewhat slow, not in a bad way, you just have to create formations which collectively can take a fair amount of time per level and I can't really see this appealing to most teenaged boys but to all those who love magic and, like me, believe in fairies, you will be truly enthralled!
We also had another reviewer called Swan (she went on to create her own review site and stopped posting here) who posted the following:
Well what a great game GotD has for us today! This is a match 3 game like no others - so definitely not a clone of any other game. Thank goodness! The developer has gone to great lengths to take an ordinary concept and dressed it up, to present a new and challenging game.

While the game itself may look 'girly,' the game is definitely a challenge - I can't see very young children playing this without a great deal of frustration. I would put this game in the 10+ through to adult age group.

The graphics are just gorgeous, clear and crisp, with bright inviting colours for much appreciated 'eye candy,' right down to the graphical font and the cursor, which emits a trail of sparkles as you move the mouse.

The music is sweet, light and pleasant to listen to. This is one of the few games where I haven't immediately turned the music off.

The opening screen lets you enter your name, followed by a screen that gives you the choice of; Play; Survival; High-scores; Options and Exit.

The options screen, has separate sliders for music and volume; toggle options for full screen; 3D Accelerator and custom cursor.

For those that might be concerned; you can definitely save your game. Something that a few other games from the past have lacked, much to everyone's chagrin.

I chose 'Play' first, which appears to be like 'Quest' in other games. There is an underlying story line, which isn't annoying to read as some are, because of the length of reading in between levels.

3 flowers attached together in the game play are known as 'cells.' Each 'cell' can be rotated either way using your left or right mouse buttons, until you manage to join 3 in a row of the same flowers. And that is the only similarity in this game to other match 3 games.

I think it's a shame that with such a great game, that the developer didn't include support for both keyboard controls and joystick/game pad, to cater to those who prefer these methods. Many new games are now including this in their options screens.

Scoring: out of 10, for the person who complained about my scoring, clearly because he just didn't 'get it.'

One other suggestion that I have is to not make it look so 'girly,' since it is off-putting for most males, regardless of how good the game play might be. I think the developer is selling themselves short, as I feel that they are cutting their customer base in half at the moment. Sales could be improved dramatically, if it could be made more visually generic.

5 for originality and great game play;
5 for beautiful graphics;
-2 for not including support for alternate controls;
TOTAL: 8 OUT OF 10

Whiterabbit-uk,

Sorry, I've been busy all day, so didn't get chance to play the game today. When it was originally given away it was amongst my favourite games and is still a very pleasant game to play.

I have however taken some screen captures. Basically the game mechanic is virtually the same as last weeks game, which was the sequel to this one. I love the game despite having been off match threes for some time (apart from Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife; my favourite Luxor game, which I'm replaying for the n'th time that I've just reinstalled, but that's more like a bubble shooter than a traditional match three.

Beautiful, relaxing and not so easy to solve at it seems at first glance.

Right game for the beginning of spring!

delenn13,

Thanks Delenn, got it. :)

Added it to my Itch.io collection, which I'm still trying to sort after getting that massive black lives matter bundle last year that cost about £20-£25 minimum. I can't remeber exactly how much I paid for it. I gave more than the minimum amount asked for, but only just. It included an unbelievable number of games which I think was well over 1400 games; with quite a lot of hidden gems amongst them. I've still hardly scratched the surface; having been slowly working through the games when I've had the time or inclination ; playing them briefly to see if they are worth keeping and then adding any that I like to my various collections (I have about 30 different collections at the moment e.g. shmups, top down RPG's (mainly RPG Maker games), shooters, puzzle games, platformers third person shooters, etc.

I hope all is well at your end. Stay safe and as always, thank you for your regular contributions; especially over in the forums. Let me know if you have any issues moderating. I'm not sure if you have access to the admin panel; can't remeber whether I gave you mod or admin privileges' now? :)

I got this the last time around, and I like it MUCH better than the sequel that we got last week (or whenever that was - it's hard with the pandemic to keep days and weeks straight)! In last week's game, when you had to make the entire board match the picture, it was REALLY hard to see what you were trying to accomplish - and if it hadn't been for THIS game, I wouldn't have even known what I was trying to do. I didn't play it soon enough that I could comment, but I'm hoping that somebody who didn't like last week's game will give this one a try.

Isn't this the same posting as last weekend? Not just the same game, but the same review/post from Stephen (Whiterabbit-uk) which says it was posted 25 days ago?

Never mind... I see it now, this is the original game and last week it was the sequel game.

Good game! The only problem is that I had to switch to windowed mode before I could see my curser. I'm running Windows 10.

This is a match 3 with a difference. You have to rotate the flowers to collect enough to fulfil orders to complete the level. There are different levels of difficulty. I have flower story 2 and have played a few levels of that so this will add to the collection.
