Love Fishdom (Frosty), and this game is equally excellent. There are just enough tweaks to make this a different game - for example, I haven't seen any other match three w/ locked squares without pieces in them, thus requiring a bomb.

Very nice and logical successor in the Fishdom series.

I especially loved the button next to the title that added a ton of malicious adware to my sisters computer after she didn't scroll down enough to the correct button. She picked the decoy "download" button that was near the top of the page. Thank you G.O.T.D.

..........................Moderator comment............................

What 'decoy' button do you mean? I don't see any other download button on the website. It seems obvious from the screenshots of what I see where you should click to get your free game. There are a couple of adverts but they are obvious.

Sorry you feel slighted by the giveaway site. It's one of the better giveaways sites around. Most others really do have false download buttons that will give you loads of ad-ware etc.

I've been downloading from this site since discovering it back in November 2006 and have never ever had ad-ware downloaded from the site. (Though one fairly recent application called Sound Frost did add some unwanted stuff earlier this year.)

Sorry Nancy, overslept this morning so didn't catch your request in time. Did you check the FAQ's section over in the game discussion forums. I always link to it after my conclusion in the review that I post (comment number 1). Sometimes files wont open with the file archiver you use, so try another one such as 7-Zip or J-Zip (I've linked to these in the FAQ's section)

I am having fun playing with my fishies! If anyone is skipping the mini hidden object games (finding gems, some of which are behind objects which you can move), you are missing the opportunity to add some interesting fish (the first was a jellyfish) to your tank. Thanks again for such a delightful game! Cara

What a wonderful treat! This one is new to me. I just put the Fishdom Spooky Splash shortcut on my desktop and had been playing that this week, but it's so nice to have some new aquariums to decorate. Plus, the little gems and bonus items are great.

I really love the little turtle too. Usually, after I get the aquariums filled properly in order to get the cups, I go back and create themes with my favorites. One of those is all turtles!

Like others, my only problem is that I want to play this all night and I have a bunch of other things to do first!

Thank you Playrix and GGOTD!

This is a fun and relaxing game, even in the timed mode. Everything is cute but also eye pleasing. It's a fun alternative for a match 3 game. I might enjoy a larger tank with more realistic fish and items to put in the tank. Perhaps you already have themes such as pirates, mermaid kingdom, sunken ships, etc. Thanks

Addition to my post #22 -- there is an eighth game in the Fishdom series, "Aquascapes", just released a few months ago.

It is a hidden object game (like Fishdom H2O) with care of, and interaction with, the fish (like Fishdom 3).

Thanks :)

Having spent many many hours with Fishdom H2O and Fishdom Spooky Splash, I look forward to this entry. Thanks.

Regarding The Treasures of Montezuma from MyPlayCity, I was interested til I saw "The game will be installed via Download Assistant". I am extremely wary of such tactics/sites.

......................Moderator Comment..........................

MyPlayCity have got a decent reputation. you do have to make sure any boxes are unchecked , otherwise you'll end up with toolbars and home page and browser changes, but you can avoid these. also your browser is always opened when you close a game down, but that's totally innocuous. The actual games are safe so long as you take those precautions.

Well, I was really hoping Swamp Thing would be really, really, REALLY excited about this game. Don't hold back on how you feel, Swampie. We need some feedback here....

I all ready have this game but I like this game BUT I really like Fishdom 3 too because you have to take care of the fishies and they talk to you.

Thanks to GGOTD and Playrix. Fishdom games are the best.

Thanks Wabbit for the review. Hopefully today was an easy day for you so you got things done at the house too.

...........................Moderator comment............................

Thanks Delenn.

:) I actually took a day off from doing stuff with the house and spent it playing games and watching movies. Going to watch World War Z as soon as I've finished moderating. Unfortunately I can't work on tomorrows game as there's no demo available.

We are going to be having a really busy few weeks as the joiner is starting the lay oak flooring on Monday and the marble guy is prepar9ing the kitchen/diner and study for laying the marble tiles, so we will be busy moving stuff around to enable them to work. I've still to book a carpet layer yet for our bedroom and the upper family room. (We had an attic room built as a TV room). The carpets arrived at the warehouse, but we still haven't booked a carpet layer yet. Also still got to purchase underlay and carpet hooks etc. Almost there though. :D Oh yeah, once we've undercoated all of the doors and other woodwork we are going to get a decorator to finish off the gloss paint and any wallpapering we want doing. I'm just too unsteady on my legs to do any of the decorating now. Once all of that's done the house will be ready for Christmas. I'm going to buy a second Christmas tree to put in the hallway as its as big as a medium sized room :) Really looking forwards to Christmas this year. :)

Oh yeah,. also figured out the problem I've had for the past two months with my Steam client. It was a registry error. finally fixed it two days ago, so am busy playing all of the games I've purchased over the past two months. :)

Love me some Fishdom!! :-)

Five of the series have now been given away here: the original, this one, Fishdom H2O (a hidden-object game), and two of the three holiday-themed games, Spooky Splash (Halloween) and Frosty Splash (Christmas).

The two others are Harvest Splash (Thanksgiving) and the most recent, Fishdom 3, which has 3D fish and a time management element (you have to care for the fish).

I had my usual problem that I sometimes have with Playrix games. By default the standard cursor is used. It will not show up on my screen so I have to randomly move around until the options disk is highlighted and then click. If they would make the custom cursor standard one should be able to change back to the regular cursor if desired.

Otherwise it's another Fishdom game all of which I have enjoyed.

Thanks so much! I love the fishdom games. they have the best match 3 platform. You are able to continue to make matches while the tokens are falling; you do not have to wait for things to finish dropping and matching in order to continue your game. so much better and faster. I don't have this edition so am pleased to get other scenery and a different look. thanks again.

iown this game and itr is fun and relaxing. i always play these games in a relaxed mode so that i don't have to be pushed to get it finished all the time. i enjoy m,y games, but not if timed is the only way i can play them. it is a good M3 and runs along the same as the others in the series. you match elements and buy things for your aquarium.

Thx GOTD team and Playrix,

We still had the fishdom games on our laptop of the previous times these were given away. The desktop has been reinstalled due of a virus, so we are happy to see another fishdom version of the series.

As said in the review, exelent three match game, in our house fishdom is on the thirth place of the match 3 games after "around the world in 80 days" and "4 elements", but still played every week several hours.

Never had this version before, but sure we will enjoy this one too.
When we read Playrix Entertainment it sounds already like big fun.

Stephen thanks for doing this for us already so long, you made the giveaway site a much see every week. With the great reviews we are always sure of what we get, big MERCI.

:0 Hope you enjoy this version as much as previous games. If you've never tried The Treasures of Montezuma, which personally i think is one of the best match three games you can get it free from MyPlayCity:

http://www.myplaycity.com/treasures_of_montezuma/

You can also get the second in the series as well.

It was given away about 3 -4 years ago. Well worth checking out. I also recommend Sky Bubbles deluxe. It's a little older so the graphics are somewhat dated, but it's nearly as good as Treasures of Montezuma:

http://www.myplaycity.com/sky_bubbles_deluxe/

Oh yeah, you'll also find five of the Fishdom games available from MyPlayCity. Just look in the Math 3 list:

Thank you for another version of one of my favourite games. There is only one problem with it, that I shall spend too much of my time playing it when I should be doing other things. It is similar to other versions of fishdom just with different, and nice, graphics. Great for match 3 addicts though.

This is my favorite Fishdom. I've had it a couple of years, and I'm on my 11th tank! With 3 basic tanks, you can do a lot of different things with them, and I am. There's a Relaxed Mode, not that the timer was all that bad on the original Fishdom. I like Seasons Under the Sea, too, because there you have all the 3 seasonal-themed tanks in one game (if you get them individually, you still only get one tank theme per holiday). Fishdom 3's fish talk to you, and you have to feed them and name them and clean their tank, but that just doesn't appeal to me all that much, so I haven't played that one much. Fishdom 2 forever!

Thanks Playrix and Rabbit and GGOTD.

Installation:

Fishdom 2 downloads as a 107 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.

The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would compromise their business, so they make sure all software given away via the giveaway and gamegiveaway sites are thoroughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.

Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.

To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is 138 MB in size and installs to the following path by default:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Playrix Entertainment\Fishdom 2 (If the install path shows the last game giveaway installed you need to clear your internet cache) you'll also find a shortcut in the Start Menu for an uninstaller.

Fishdom 2 works on my Win 7 (64 bit) computer. My Win 8 machine hasn't been unpacked yet and I've not reinstalled Vista or XP yet.

The Game:

In our constant quest for freshness and originality we are often quick to dismiss games that simply toe the line. But sometimes games that don’t innovate or otherwise alter a proven formula can prove enormously entertaining. Such is the case with Fishdom 2, Playrix’s sequel to its popular aquatic-themed match-three game Fishdom. There is very little about the experience that can properly be labeled new or inventive, and yet its beautiful graphics, relaxing music, and intuitive play mix to create a highly satisfying bit of interactive entertainment.

Fishdom 2 EN2 fishdom2 3

The beauty of Fishdom 2 is in its beauty. We’ve all seen plenty of tiles in matching games before, but rarely have we seen any with as much personality and charm as these marine-themed squares. Each one has its own little animation; diving helmets open and close, jelly fish contract and push, and shells turn this way and then that. Interesting looking tiles may seem a small thing, but when you realize that you’re spending hours looking at them it’s nice to see that some care has gone into their creation.

The fish tanks we stock and decorate between games are equally appealing. We fill them with dozens of fish modeled after real-world species (we’re even provided a few sentences of trivia for each). We can also add plenty of “beauty” items—plants, statues, buildings, figures, and the like—and several comfort objects, including heaters, filters, and oxygenation devices.

Players can then take pictures of their aquatic habits and send them to friends via email, admire them in screensavers, or set still images as desktop backgrounds. Extras like these only work when a game’s artistic design stands out from the pack, and Fishdom 2’s definitely does, all the way down to its oceanic soundtrack, which is filled with nautical tunes full of bubbling percussion sounds and nautical effects. You can access the songs outside the game as well, should you desire.

Fishdom2 scr06

As for the game itself, it feels like plenty of other match-three games to come before. However, few such games are so finely tuned.

The object of each level is simply to clear it, thereby earning points that can be applied to purchasing items and fish for your small collection of tanks. In order to clear a level you have to make matches over all of its yellow tiles, turning them blue. Some tiles are stony, meaning you need make a couple of matches to clear them, and some have one or two chains that have to be removed via one or two matches.

As the game progresses, the levels gradually become increasingly difficult, with yellow tiles squirreled away in lone columns and rows that make matches tricky. Luckily, we’ve been provided plenty of power-ups in the form of firecrackers, depth bombs, dynamite charges, and warheads. These power-ups appear if a match of a certain number of like tiles occurs. Clicking on them or swapping them with another tile destroys all tiles around them within a radius of between one and four tiles. A fifth power-up, simply dubbed “lightning,” will appear after you’ve used seven of the explosive power-ups. It eliminate all tiles of a given type—very handy for removing annoying tiles stuck in corners and deep within jutting protrusions from the grid.

Fishdom 2 Premium Edition 4

You can choose whether you want to work against a clock or just putter along in relaxed mode. Truth be told, though, the timed mode is just as relaxing as relaxed mode. It’s rare that the clock will play a significant factor, at least not until much later in the game.

Music:

You'll find the music files in the games installed sound folder, which is located via the following path:

All sound files including music and sound effects are kept in the same folder; so, if you decide you don't like the music and want to change it for some of your own favorite music you can do, but you must convert the music you choose to the ogg format. (free audio converters are readily available online). Be sure to select the correct files otherwise you may cause problems with the game. I'd back up any music files you decide to change just in case. Once you've played the game and confirmed that it works with the new music, then it may be safe to delete the files. Don't forget to rename any files you use to the ones you are replacing.

Minimum System Specifications:

Conclusion:

If you've played previous Fishdom games you'll find little has changed apart from a whole new wodge of match three levels, and a new bunch of screensaver fish tanks to create and populate
We eventually earn bronze, silver, and gold cups for completing goals in the areas of beauty, comfort, and fish diversity, and these cups provide a bonus to the number of points we earn each level.

That said, the play has been so expertly executed and with such artistic verve that I really doubt many people will begrudge this sequel’s lack of original concepts. If you’re a fan of match-three games, Fishdom 2’s intuitive design, relaxed pace, and visual and auditory styling's are almost certain to appeal.

Pros:

Excellent audio and visual design. Familiar objectives and intuitive interface. Creating scenes in themed tanks is fun. Lots of extras, including screensavers, desktop art, and access to the game’s great soundtrack.

Cons:

Little innovation. Not much in the way of a narrative.

A Request for help:

Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

Please leave some feedback once you've checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to post a constructive comment.

Regards

Whiterabbit aka Stephen
