I've been mindlessly playing the original Fishdom since it was last given away here, and now, thanks, I'm mindlessly playing this one!

I both like and dislike some of the differences. I like seeing some new fish and tank items. Some of them are really creepy, though, like the fish in the Santa hat. I won't buy that one.

As for the game, some of the levels are easy, but some are hellish. I do like the option of a relaxed, untimed game. I don't like fighting the clock and wish the original Fishdom had the same feature.

One complaint I have is that the tanks are exactly alike, as far as I can tell. I finished one with a gold cup or trophy, found I had to BUY the next one, and it's exactly the same as the first one. At least original Fishdom had three different tanks!

The match-three components aren't too bad, though it seems harder to pick out some of the bigger matches because certain things stand out better than others.

Overall this is a good game, but I'd like to see more variety for the fish tanks and I'd like to not see the creepy Santa fish.

Despite unlocking a new tank I never realized that they were th same. Just goes to show how much my attention wanders sometimes.

Thank you, GGOTD and Playrix! I love match-3 games for relaxing, and Playrix's are really great quality. I'm already playing my 4th identity through on Fishdom.

They always download quick and easy for me on Winxp,SP2, using IE6 browser (long story there!). I have Firefox & Chrome browsers, but IE is best for downloading from GGOTD.

Bravo! What a neat little piece of fun!! Love the new features - rotate decorations, choose to play timed or not. Christmas-y theme is nice and very fun - maybe having an option to pick your holiday to keep it current through the year would add even more value? My daughter LOVES that you can play with the fish - repeated clicking in the tank makes little bubbles that attract the fish; if you keep clicking when they pass your cursor, they'll "heart" you!

Fishdom has been a real success in my home; this new Christmas version looks to add to the fun we've been having.

Thanks, Playrix and Game Giveaway of the Day, for a nice Christmas present!!

Peace and Long life,
Tw0nst3r

Hello, I had the same problem today with activation. I contacted my son, who had missed the last Fishdom for his kids, and he also was unable to activate. We both use Firefox 3.

Checked cookies, and there were more associated with the giveawayoftheday domain than I've seen anywhere else. All of the cookies were from INFORMER.COM and IDEA.INFORMER.COM. I deleted these cookies to no avail.

Next, as suggested above, I tried Internet Explorer 6 that I still had buried in my computer. Surprisingly, this also had the INFORMER.COM cookies, which I deleted. Although Internet Explorer 6 was showing that it was operating on-line, I could not display any web pages in that krappy browser. I proceeded to check the Internet connection and noted that under TOOLS -- INTERNET CONNECTION -- LAN SETTINGS, no options were checked.

I then checked AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS, and then Internet Explorer 6 began displaying web pages. After contacting my son, he repeated these steps and was able to activate as well.

Years ago I stopped using Internet Explorer in favor of Firefox, which works more than 10 times better and is much more secure.

You do realize that in each of the known cases, users were able to continue to browse the Internet, even leaving comments here, despite not being able to use the software activation? This brings a number of important questions to mind:

HOW and WHY would settings in Internet Explorer be affecting software activation on GiveawayoftheDay? What would happen if I totally uninstall Internet Explorer 6? WHY does Giveawayoftheday not issue a caveat for this problem? What would have caused at least five user's computers to suddenly be cutoff during the past week? (assuming the other known cases above are also cases of AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS being deactivated)

I would like to suggest too that in view if the number of INFORMER.COM COOKIES found in two computers I know of, that this should be looked at carefully by Giveawayoftheday. I've noted in my research today that INFORMER.COM is inset into one of the main Giveawayoftheday pages, and I suggest that as COOKIES have been reportedly causing problems with others' activation problems, people using you site should be advised of this possibility. I for one have taken several steps to block INFORMER.COM and IDEA.INFORMER.COM from modifying my system.

Fishdom is great and this is the opinion of a family of addicted to match 3+ games. At least we don't gamble or watch the rectangular brainwashing box. The graphics are beyond outstanding.

Thanks a million for helping us find Playrix software - we're doing some business!

Thank you, GGOTD, for allowing us the opportunity to experience new games. And thank you to all the companies who offer their games to us for free. No match-3 haters today?
Here is one. I hate this game, became addicted to the fishies.
I'm even neglecting my other games - LOL
And this episode is yet worse, it has a relax mode.

Thanks Playrix and GGOTD for bringing some colour in this white winter landscape.

I agree with #39 - I LOVE the relaxed mode. Whenever a game has that, I take it so I can relax and not worry about a time-out and having to redo. After all, the purpose of the game is to relax and enjoy yourself.

After the previous Fishdom was offered here, I jumped at this one. It was a few hours before I had a chance to install but there were absolutely no problems with my Vista32 SP2 machine!

#42 jwr:

This is a very common occurance here. That message means you have become unable to contact the GOTD activation site for some reason. Some of your internet settings have probably changed recently. Your firewall, antivirus or even browser can cause this.

Try to recall if you made any security or computer "cleanup" changes recently, if you've only started having this problem. Even something as simple as changing Internet Explorer's status to offline, even if you're not using IE to connect, can cause this!

Whiterabbit-UK (the moderator here) also usually recommends that you empty your browser cache and cookies, and reboot your modem. You should be able to fix this soon enough to still activate this game. (See previous comments about this.)

Good luck.

I am sure there will be "match 3 haters " out there , but this one is nothing but quality gameplay. $3.99 is odd considering other websites are selling this title for much more in cost. I installed this on a Netbook with Win 7 Starter, and it works fine with black bars on the left and right hand side of the screen. The graphics are really cool and the sounds are awesome. I just wish the GGOTD project would be full time again but until that happens I'll just keep praying for fantastic giveaways similar to this one.

I also have "Failed to connect, Please try again later"

Had this message starting yesterday - couldn't get the DVD ripper. Tried dozens of times during the day.

Also can't get the screensaver today.

Maybe this had something to do with the unusual thousands of thuumbs up yesterday. I also had this failed connection when the "STICKRs" were in use and also last month when the youre sites would come and go.

I installed this on my Vista 32 bit computer. Everything was fine, but I couldn't see the cursor. I went into the options menu and chose to use the game's custom cursor. That worked fine. The games fun, mostly because it demands your attention while you're playing it. You would find it hard to think about your job or your chores while you're matching up three (or more) at a time. I like games like that!

Thanks GGOTD and Playrix for this very nice game. Played the former fishdom a lot of times and I'm very glad with this wintery one. This one seems to faster on my pc (XP).

And I agree fully with @26, sometimes I just fill the tank with the nicer stuff, it takes longer to get to the next cup but it certainly looks a lot better.

Love Playrix games, they do some of the best match-3 games and Fishdom is right up there!

(Whiterabbit - maybe if I can add some hints for those having problems downloading and installing games? These apply to most downloads, too...)

Make sure you keep track of your download location so you can find the file again (yes, I know these are basic, but they bear repeating!), and compare the finished download size to that listed in the description - sometimes the files don't download properly and this is your first check. Suspect an issue? Download it again and retry.

Make sure you activate the program as directed in the accompanying ReadMe file - sometimes they require activation before installing and sometimes after, and some don't require it at all, plus a few require registration, so make sure you read the ReadMe before you try to install!

Next, you may have to, depending on your security settings, run the install program as an Administrator - usually all you have to do is right click on the downloaded file and select "Run as Administrator" - easy enough!

Next, if the program won't run, please copy the error message exactly, as the geeks on GOTD can't help if they don't know exactly what happened - but don't give up on the program yet! Post your problem and give us a chance to look at it and make suggestions - you might miss out on some great software if you give up now.

Some specific suggestions that might help - most messages that include filenames with things like "D3d" in them have to do with DirectX, the Microsoft API that most games are run through. Many times that means one of 2 things - your DX setup may not be up-to-date, or it may be missing a file. If that's the case, look for the DXTool online (there are several versions, all free), or use your DX Control Panel app if you have one, and run the tests, which may tell you more specifically what's going on so you can correct it. And remember, there are limits to which DX versions can be run on the different OS versions - for most of us, DX10 is the most recent version we can run on XP or Vista, although DX11 is now coming into it's own for Win7. And many older video cards can't handle all the functions of recent DX versions, depending on your GPU and the amount and type of memory you have, so it CAN be rather complicated sorting it all out, but at least post your problem and give the geeks a shot at helping you!

This goes for Microsoft OS updates as well - they aren't all aimed at security issues; some of them help overcome software issues as well - plus this advice also goes for drivers (the programs that let hardware run the "right" way) - if your drivers are woefully out-of-date, your software experience will suffer. Now, updating drivers isn't really a huge issue, as long as you know whether or not you need the computer builder's drivers, or the hardware manufacturers version - most laptops, for example, tend to work better using the brand drivers, like mine is a Toshiba with an Intel IGP, so I tend to use Toshiba drivers rather than the Intel ones. Not sure? Ask - someone will surely help out! And remember, a simple Google search can help solve a multitude of issues...

Finally, if you do have a problem running a game, be sure to double-check the requirements for the program listed in the description - yes, again I know it's basic advice, but you'd be surprised how many times my friends and family have overlooked some detail that prevents a program running on their computer, and no amount of advice from me can help fix that without a hardware upgrade!

The best advice of all? ASK - if you have an issue someone else has certainly had the same problem, and I've never found an issue without at least finding a workaround.

Now I know this post isn't anywhere near a complete set of solutions, but it should go a long way toward solving most common issues, if you step back and think it through.

Happy gaming, and thank you, Playrix and GOTD - a great combination IMO.

I downloaded this and unzipped it but when I click on the set up I get the activating window that says it is "checking the giveaway availability" quickly followed by a second window that says the following "Failed to connect Please try again." I have tried this multiple times and get the same thing. Any ideas?

............................Moderator Comment..........................

It sounds like you need to delete the game giveaway cookie from your internet cache. Though other fixes that have worked for me in the past have been to reboot my modem and/or router (despite still being able to connet with the giveaway site). These fixes, or at least one of them has always fixed the probem for me when I've got that particular message.

@Whiterabbit-uk

"Failed to connect." I'm getting this message again. About a year ago, I stopped bothering with gaotd because of this problem. A friend was also having a problem with this back then. A few months ago, she told me about a great kids' game you had here, and I did successfully download it (and by grandkids love it). She said she'd tried gaotd again earlier this year and hadn't seen the "failed to connect" message since last year.

Yes, I've been to the forum and, yes, I've cleaned my cache and cookies. I actually ran ccleaner for the first time last week, BEFORE this problem appeared! Maybe ccleaner destroys the ability to connect to gaotd? Or is that just a coincidence?

Since then, I've downloaded several other games here with no problems, except of course for the week that gaotd was off-line last month. I guessed (wrongly) that gaotd had fixed this problem.

From my experience in public relations, I can tell you that less than one percent of people complain about such things, and as the price approaches 0, the "complaints percentage" approaches 0 as well. Therefore, you're hearing about this from me, and there are almost certainly hundreds of other people who have downloaded software, received the "failed to connect" message, then just moved on somewhere else maybe thinking that a software "giveaway" is a joke.

The fact is that I have downloaded and successfully activated some great software here, and I've been surprised that there are so few user ratings because the thumbs up/down is plainly obvious at the top. So I'm suggesting that perhaps the number of people rating the software would be in the thousands if people could actually activate it.

My email address is included with this comment in the "Mail" field. Whiterabbituk, PLEASE contact me. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

............................Moderator comment................................

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your comment, it is appreciated; however, at least a thousand people or more do download these games every time they have a game giveaway, but most do not bother to even click on the + or - let alone leave a comment. I've found this time and time again on several sites that I've been an administrator or moderated over the past several years. (I didn't have the time to do such things when I was working). I can see what you are getting at and I'm sure you are right with respect to community members not bothering if they get a problem downloading; however I still think that more often than not it is the way the member has their computer set up that's the problem. I've had the very same problem lots of times, but have always managed to resolve the problem. (Well actually there was a time a few years ago when I didn't, but reinstalling windows solved the problem - I usually do a clean install a few times a year to clear out all the junk I've accumulated as I'm a download fiend to the nth degree), that and the other fixes I've suggested would support what I just said about it being the community members computer that is the problem. (Though I may be wrong); however every time, apart from that one time that I've had the 'failed to connect' message, clearing out my internet cache or rebooting my modem and/or router has always worked ;-)

Using CCleaner is probably just a coincidence, but you never know. I'd always shied away from using CCleaner until recently because I lost over 200Gb of mods and maps for my favourite Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Vietnam games a few years ago after using CCleaner (some were irreplaceable because I used to do a lot of testing for various mod and map makers so had a lot of beta mods and maps that were never officially released). It was the first time I'd ever used it, so blame myself for not setting it up right. I've always had three to five HDD's on my computers, and it was a non-root HDD that got hit. I couldn't even recover it.; spend a lot of money purchasing good recovery software, which didn't do the job properly. Please excuse me, I always go off on one when CCleaner is mentioned, lol.

Love Fishdom Games! Thanks GGOTD & Playrix, it's always nice to have something new in a series you like. I agree more fish, more plants and equipment that didn't all have to be bought(perhaps some choices, for those of us who prefer less gaudy accessories?). I did run into and interesting thing when I tried to get full screen It made my screen blink(Vista Home PremiumSP2) and had to Task Manager end to get out. Your review said full screen was default but was not checked in options. Runs fine in Windowed mode, so will run that way. Great job, GGOTD!

When I checked the game this morning the game started in Full Screen, which would indicate that Full screen is the default that the game is set at when first installed.

I've had that problem several times even though I still have access to the site. When I reboot my modem and/or router it works. If you haven't tried to reboot do so. If it still won't work clear out your cookies, or at least the game giveaway cookie as it may be corrupted. These are just suggestions that have worked for me when getting this problem in the past and at least one of them (usually the former) has always worked for me..

Ok Win 7 Ultimate 32x. Pleasant enough thing w/ options to kill the syrupy music. Has a winter theme w/o any religious nature to offend. The tiles are pretty corny & smallish for a match 3 adult player. Same concept as prior game of fish tank play, decorate, etc. Can be relaxed or timed modes.
Kids level 8/10. Adult level 3/10, if a fan 8/10.
Thanks for what it is this time of year GOTD & Playrix.

I am currently still playing a previous Fishdom Giveaway and although I enjoy the game I wish tank throphies could be earned in other ways other than filling tanks with crap like Sparkling Garlands, Disco Signs, Sunken ships and so on.
That is my biggest complaint so I would like the option of very expensive plants or marine life instead of tacky items.
Stuff like the filter and the feeder are kinda ugly too; I try my best to cover them with plants generally but it never comes out very good. :)
That said always thanks for the giveaways and if those few things could be improved the games would be perfect.

That's a very good point; there should be some more aethetically pleasing objects, but mainly fish species and plants would definitely be a good idea.

What a nice surprise! I love Fishdom and admit to being a bit addicted. This game will be a nice extension. I find that I plan to stop but want to play one more round. Even saying that, it is very relaxing and satisfying. I'm sure this addition to the Fishdom family will be just as much fun. One thing about this match 3 game which makes it my favorite is that you can continue to make matches while the original match is cycling. You do not have to wait for all the combinations to finish one place before you can make more matches elsewhere; this is wonderful programing and lets you increase your speed tremendously.
The music is very nice and I always have it turned up. Since I have made several different types of tanks I can say that you can make one with only one type of fish. It will take you a LONG time before you get a bronze trophy and can make a different tank but it can be done.
You will not be disappointed with this game as I am sure it is a nice sequel to the original. Fishdom was originally downloaded for my granddaughter but I find I play it most of the time.
Thank you so much GGAOTD for giving us hours of free fun!!
Merry Christmas!

I get the same error as 16
I have latest Direct x driver available.
I run windows 7 64-bit.

This has given problems for games in the past

So far I've got it to work on a XP Pro 32 bit, Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit and a Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

No trouble with installation on Win 7 64bit Pro. A fun game to play and great for kids. Playrix games are awesome and have broad appeal. Beats racing trucks/cars which cater for a much smaller niche.

In addition to my (and rabbit's) earlier review, Frosty splash does have more surprises, like frozen tiles, and triple break tiles and things alike.

Also, there is only one negative that I found in Frosty Splash, and that is the way to get out, to exit.
One has to press MENU, and then one still can't FIND the exit button. It has taken me quite a while to figure out i had to click the MENU button AGAIN to finally see the exit button.

Just so you know... for the ones who've been searching how to get out of the game.

Enjoy!

you can see descriptions of the various tiles as well as other aspects of the ame by watching the slideshow that i've posted in my review above.

The tank in Fishdom - Frosty Splash is the same as the Christmas one in Fishdom - Seasons Under the Sea. And the gameplay is the same, too, except for the fact that you only have to get a Bronze Cup before you buy a new tank in Frosty Splash. (You have to get Gold in all 3 before you can buy any new tank in Seasons Under the Sea.)

Try rebooting your modem and/or rpouter. If that doesn't fix the problem clear out your internet cache (at least the cookies). Please don't shout in the comment section, your comment can still be seen. :)

You need to update your direct X, which you can get from Microsoft for free. Also consider updating your graphic card drivers.

There's normally lots of "not another match 3 game" comments, but I for one, can't get enough of them. Thanks Playrix & GGOTD.
