Farma Force:

In Brief:
Farma Force is a 15 level basic top down Tower Defence game, with a biological theme of bacteria infecting the body. Each level comprises of waves of enemies that steadily get harder the further into the game you progress.

Your job is to protect the various organs of the body by creating an effective immune system which is dependent on how you place the defensive structures around the blood vessels. Each defence has it's own peculiarities with respect to the area it covers, the power of the attack and it's speed of delivery.

It has the usual features expected in a 2D version of the game i.e. ten towers with different functions e.g. Painkillers, Defibrillators, Chemotherapy, different antibiotics (long lasting, strong etc).

Also included are a start button to start each wave, an upgrade button for improving the radius, damage and speed of each defence. There's also a sell button and speed up & sound mute toggle.

Progress is saved, or you can restart from the beginning if you wish.

Conclusion:
Farma Force is yet another Tower Defense game in a long line of 2D top down defence games. It has an original take on the genre with respect to giving it a biological back ground story; however, there's little to distinguish between each level apart from the routes. It would have been a lot more entertaining if each level featured a specific part of the body such as the heart, lungs kidneys spleen etc. They could even have used the circulatory system as the routes the germs would take. Sadly I found the game became very boring very quickly. (I bought a couple of tower defence games in the Steam sales over Christmas i.e. Bunker Defense and Beachhead 2020, both of which are fast becoming my favourites; even eclipsing my all time favourite Defense Grid: The Awakening.

I was really shocked to find Farma Force is yet another of those games released on Steam with a ridiculous price tag of £50.32 (over $60/57 Euro's); Several of the developers games are selling for the same price. and all have mainly positive reviews, many of which are posted by the same accounts. Also, there are ten positive one line reviews all posted on the same day in Russian with between 0.2 to 0.4 hours of game play each and all have accounts with just 1 or 2 games in their Steam accounts apart from one who had played it the longest at half an hour with 8 products in their account. All the accounts are set to private and all but two have one or more VAC bans on their accounts. That smells of review manipulation to me, giving the overall reviews a very positive tag with 100% positive reviews.

That said, it does the job it was built for. If you like Tower Defence games, this will keep you entertained for half an hour or so. I completed four levels in just over ten minutes with the speed set to fast and not one germ got through. Of course the later levels do become harder with some bifurcated into branches, so more than one route needs to be protected.

Regarding the price; I've seen a lot of cheap and often asset flips initially sold at a very high price, then you see them selling it at 90% off; giving the impression that it's a bargain and if you only glance at the ratings with all the positive reviews some community members may think they are getting a really good bargain, however, in fact they are basically getting ripped off. Oh yes, and of the 17 games that the developer has released on Steam, sixteen were released last month.

Thankfully today it's totally free and is playable. Sorry for the negativity above, but such practices really make my blood boil. Steam eventually bans developers who do what i've described above; but they just create new accounts with different developers names and release lots more. You just have to check Steam DB and filter for the highest percentage off and you'll notice a lot of 3.99 games with 90% off that are tagged with the lowest price they sold on Steam which are usually £0.39 to £0.79. It's been going on for a few years now.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found zero hits from 63 antimalware engines. You can see the scan HERE.

mike,

Hi Mike no I saw the sale. I'm waiting for the next one that starts next week as it covers games that include base building. There's a dlc for fallout 76 that I want so I'm hoping it will be included in the sale.

Thanks for the heads up on Rayman Raving Rabbids, already had the game. :)

Yes it is quite odd. This was released Dec. 6th according to more than 1 source. It actually has a MetaCritic page which says that it's a collaboration between Didl Studios and Taser Studios. Taser has a brand new, incomplete web page which says they are working on their 1st project, details soon. Didl has no website.

This game is currently part of a rather bizarre looking Didl Bundle on Steam containing all of Didl products. 16 games, including, it seems, more than 1 tower defense. It's a 90% discount bundle. $48.80 as opposed to $488.00. What's truly bizarre about all of this, at least from my inexperienced perspective, is that the bundle contains 8 games priced at $1 a piece - and 8 at $60 a piece?!?!? Am I the one who doesn't understand the game industry and it's intrinsic monetary values? Or are they? Or do they hope potential buyers don't understand the gaming industry?

We seem to get some odd stuff from Itch, via Falco???

Oops. Should have mentioned that it's too new for a rating on MetaCritic.

mediaman13,

Hi Mediaman, I did try to explain in my conclusion what I think is happening with respect to the pricing of some of the dev's games. Basically they inflate the price to something ridiculous, at least for a small indie arcade game with only 15 levels (20 years ago, a 15 level game would have been considered a demo). They then discount the game massively (90% usually) that gives onlookers the impression that the game is a bargain; however, if you check the Steam Database HERE, you can see that all of those £50 games have initially sold for between £0.39 to £0.79. When the games are on 90% off deals they will retail for around £5, which in my opinion is still way to high for this game.

The above is a tactic some unscrupulous developers are using to sell mediocre games at inflated prices The often get banned from Steam, only to reappear with a different developers name, with yet more poorly constructed games or games that have basically been stolen then edited using free or cheap assets to make it look different.

Whiterabbit-uk, Ah, thanks. Sorry, did see that. Was kind of replying to Anna, but did put it as a general statement, not a reply to her, so your response is perfectly on point. You have said this before, quite clearly, but I didn't quite pick up on it until I actually saw a concrete example. Now I can see a "smoking gun" example of what you've been talking about. Thanks again.
