Farm Frenzy 3: Madagascar

Farm Frenzy 3: Madagascar is a time management game, and the eighth in the Farm Frenzy series, it's also the last of the free standing expansions to Farm Frenzy 3. Apart from animals found on Madagascar, the large island off the East coast of Africa, This version of Farm Frenzy 3 brings little to the franchise. If you've played previous versions, this will be easy to pick up. Like most games developed or published by Alawar, it's still a decent game; but, in my opinion, after playing all of the previous ones, the series is getting a little stale. If you've only played a few of this series, then it's well worth getting as the game play is entertaining and, not too stressful to play.

Installation Issues:

Farm Frenzy 3: Madagascar downloads to a 72.2 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper the set-up file and a read me). The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed if you wish. The installed game is 79.3 MB in size.

Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop; the Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game; the name of which may vary each week can be deleted once the game has been installed. The Themida wrapper may alert your security and even block the installation. There are details in the read me about this issue.

The Game:

Farm Frenzy 3 has finally outworn its welcome. After four spin-offs, it seems pretty clear that the developers have run out of ideas. Farm Frenzy 3: Madagascar brings little new to the table, and plays almost identically to every other game in the series. In fact, aside from a few visual differences, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between Madagascar and its predecessor, Russian Roulette.

It seems that series star Scarlett’s previous adventures have left her drained and in need of a vacation, so she decides to go on a self-guided tour of Madagascar. Unfortunately, since she doesn’t have a tour guide, it’s not long before Scarlett finds herself lost. She stumbles across an animal reserve, but finds even more bad news, as all of the animals are sick. Using her farming skills Scarlett decides to help out the reserve by raising as much money as she can.

The story is about the only place you’ll find much new in the game. And like the rest of the series, is largely unimportant. Aside from the introduction and the occasional cut-scene — which consist of comic book-style panels featuring wildly inconsistent art — you’ll hardly ever actually interact with the narrative. Instead, it serves as a goofy set-up loosely tying together the events of the game.

If you’ve played any of the previous Farm Frenzy 3 games, Madagascar will feel very familiar. In fact, it will feel pretty much identical. You’ll play through a number of different stages, each of which has a particular goal to accomplish. Levels will require you to do things like earn a certain amount of money or collect a certain amount of eggs, all within a certain period of time. Each stage has two time goals, gold and silver, which will earn you a certain number of stars. You can then use the stars earned to unlock new stages and all of the money you earn can be invested in new buildings.

Aside from a few new additions, you’ll once again be using the same buildings as in previous games. There’s an incubator for hatching eggs, bakeries for making cookies and cakes, and more. There are new animals as well, but really, they’re only cosmetically different. The Guinea birds are exactly the same as chickens, hatching eggs and eating grass, while the ostriches provide feathers in the same way sheep used to provide wool. And instead of a bear storming into your farm and scaring away your animals, it’s an orangutan. There’s even another super-animal, similar to the oil bear from Russian Roulette, except this time it’s an elephant that mines diamonds. But though they may look different, the animals in the game play the exact same roles as before.

It’s even difficult to see much in the way of visual changes in the game. While some of the animals look different and there are a few new buildings, the actual stages look identical to the previous game. You really need to look closely to spot the differences, which amount to little more than a few different plants and some color changes. Even though the game is set in Madagascar, it doesn’t really feel like you’re on an isolated island teeming with wildlife. It just feels like you’re on a farm. Again.

Really, at this point you already know if you want to play Farm Frenzy 3: Madagascar. If the previous four games didn’t satiate your appetite for collecting eggs and baking cakes, Madagascar offers up more of the same. The levels are as challenging as ever, and feature a nice difficulty curve, starting out simple before slowly ramping up the difficulty. And there’s lots of them, with a total of 90 different stages to take on and an unlockable endless mode as well. But if you’re waiting for the series to finally do something new, Madagascar will leave you very disappointed.

Conclusion:

Apart from a few other Time Management games (such as yesterdays game) the farm frenzy games have been among my favorite TM and other farming themed games, however, with yet more of the same to come, after this title i refused to purchase any more. I beta tested all of the Farm Frenzy games up to Farm Frenzy 3 and the first of the Farm Frenzy Expansions, but became disillusioned with the franchise as it brought little apart from different environments and animals to the game. the mechanics remained virtually the same as the very first one. Still, if you haven't played most of the earlier ones, this is well worth getting as on its own its still a well made game, and for those who find most TM games stressful, this one is not as stressful and a lot of fun to play.games

Problems getting the game to work:

If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Farm Frenzy 3: Madagascar to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try white-listing the setup.gcd file. In the almost 12 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.

For those who love farm related arcade games, you can get ALL but the last (Heave Ho) of the Farm Frenzy games for free (see links below); most from MyPlayCity, apart from Farm Frenzy 3: American Pie (TooMkyGames). I've not downloaded anything from TooMkyGames for a couple of years, so cannot guarantee the integrity. However, the twelve you can get from MyPlayCity are safe to download if you don't mind the games being introduced by adverts, and as with all free game sites, your browser being redirected to their respective home pages. The reason for this is so that the sites can pay the original developers a cut in their ad' revenue, which then gives them license to give the games away for free. Installing games from any of these sites can involve home page changes and toolbars being added to your browsers, but with MyPlayCity, they have removed these for the time being. but do watch the installation process as they occasionally change their installation process. If you see check-boxes during installation, check what they are for before clicking the next button. As I said, at the moment, they have stopped installing toolbars and changing your home page, but the library files (dll's) that usually make those changes are still present in the installed game. To get your free copy of each game click on the name of the games below. The last three games in the series look much better than their predecessors due to a new art style, HD graphics and 3D models and animations.
