Oops - I missed this one. But I guess I got it here a few weeks ago named "Mad Shapes"

.....................Moderator comment....................

Similar game but not the same. They used the same sprites for the movable shapes.

Seriously? another .zip extractor?

Can't the Dev's make .exe installers?

@21: Wheemplay's site seems to be infected since they gave away their last game. Just don't go on their site. There's nothing you will gain from visiting their site. They probably don't care if they haven't fixed the infections since last time.

Quick note regarding the repackaged Mac version: It's understandable because it was probably an emergency repack, but the giveaway files are inside a folder of the same name as the ZIP file instead of being in the root of the ZIP file. I think Mac OS automatically figures it out, so no big deal.

Message to the GGOTD team: (Please deliver to GGOTD team.)
Please be mindful of and retrain whoever packed the Mac version today. He/she needs to verify the contents of the package, instead of blindly ZIPping everything.

Comparing the packing error rates of the main site vs. the game site, the game site has an abnormally high rate of errors. While since 2009 I've only ever seen one slip up (someone accidentally included the key inside the ZIP file), at GGOTD, especially since the beginning of the year, there have been three incidences of packing errors:
1. Race: Lost Roads: key and original game's serial code inside a .reg (not necessary) were included in the installer.
2. Kingdom Elemental: Entire unencrypted game and box shot were included alongside the wrapped game (defeats the purpose of the wrapper).
3. Today: So many redundant files, non of which worked, leaked key (for old wrapper, not a big deal), broken Mac version. Lots of WTF and biggest mess-up to date.

Seriously, get a grip, and make sure the files coming from this particular packer is scrutinized before posting it. Don't make it so the next screw up includes the entire wrapper studio and private GOTD documents ;)

(BTW, I'm available to volunteer for packaging.)

Installed fine on vista x64. Nice little game. The only way to get back in the main menu is by clikking the select level button and you have to play the whole level at once because it doesn't save. Music is a bit annoying after a while. I like Wheemplay games to pass time in a easy way. Thanks. :)

I got a virus warning from avast when entering the game site as follows
(i made it extra non-clickable for security purposes):

URL: http://apps[DOT]wheemplay[DOT]com/fangedfun/js/jquery-1.3.2.min.js|{gzip}
Prozess: C:\Program Files\COMODO\Dragon\dragon.exe
Infection: JS:Agent-QD [Trj]

Hopefully they can fix that or at least can confirm an false warning.

You can find a walkthrough video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj4kpvgAmEk
Looks like a good physics puzzle game, so thanks for the offer.

Regards, Chris

Thank you for your feedback Chris and the video of game play. sorry I didn't post a review this morning. Unfortunately didn't have the time. With respect to the Avast warning, I can only comment on the game itself which has been tested by the giveaway team using several different security software's. I'm sure there would have been other community members visiting the web site as well, but no warnings have been posted here. Which version of Avast are you using? If you are unsure I'd just steer clear of the site, but it' more likely to be a false positive if no one else has reported the problem. Don't quote me on the suggestion though. :)

Addendum, just saw another post by Wendi using a different AV program (AVG)

I have to admit, this reminds me of the early games offered on Vega and Atari. Not much on graphics. However, for those easily occupied, this would be a good game. The physics are there - just not remarkable. A basic good gameplay however, if you wish to escape an hour or two.

Hi Mr. Rabbit Hope all is well with you. Just wanted to thank you for the bundle links. Downloaded the Junebug one looks really interesting especially the games Auditorium and Pixel junk

......................... Moderator Comment.....................

Glad you found one to your liking. The Indie Royale bundles appear fairly frequently. The next one is due in around 2 weeks. Personally I prefer the Inde Gala bundles, but there isn't one available at the moment. The Gamersgate bundle also has a good selection of games. I'm amazed they are selling it so cheap.

Everytime I try to download today's game "Fanged Fun" it tells me the file is corrupt/damaged. How can I download this game before the time runs out?

..................................Moderator Comment......................

Have you checked the FAQ's over in the Games discussion forums:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/11647

You may find trying a different file archiver to unpack the giveaway may work. I've had similar problems previously so unpacked using a different archiver and it worked. If that doesn't fix the problem, try clearing out your cookies from the internet cache reboot your modem/router then try re-downloading.

AVG virus protection detected the exploit blackhole kit virus when going directly to the website this game comes from. Stated the website has been hacked with malware. Not sure if anyone else using AVG virus protection encountered the same situation. Might be a good idea if the website developer looks into the situation. Will pass on this one unfortunately. :)

Win 7 x64 Maybe the game did not install correctly but it seems it has. Problem one: I see is there are no how to play instructions.
Problem two: Once the game is started, clicking with the mouse does nothing even though it works to select the level and start the game. Maybe this should be obvious to those who usually play this kind of game but new people need some guidance.

Ok Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Not full screen. Had to turn off both sound & music boxes then rerun game to stop that annoyance. Make shortcut. Plays smoothly. Thought I'd played this from prior GiveAway but no.
Easy first 5 levels but 6 a bear. Then quit on 7. Thanks GOTD.

Hi George,

Maybe the file became corrupted while downloading. Did you try re-downloading it? That may fix the problem.

Now I know: The EXE version in the Mac package is the broken Zinc projector. So that leaves the question, why so much junk? I've uploaded the right Mac package to MediaFire, and I'll remove it when GOTD fixes their download or the giveaway expires, whichever is earlier. This way Mac users will save having to download about 15MB of junk. The uploaded file has not been modified in any way.

.............................Moderator Comment.............................

sorry GMMan, we are not allowed to allow any links to such downloads. If you got permission from the owners first then it would be acceptable. Hopefully the giveaway team will fix the problem or allow the giveaway to carry on longer if they deem it has affected users. I suggest any Mac user post a comment in the comments section if they have had problems and also post in the forums.

If the owners give you permission maybe it will be possible to post the link to the file over in the forums after the giveaway is over but only for a day. :)

The best thing about Wheemplay games is how easy they are to uninstall once you realize you've downloaded another loser. Without exception, Wheemplay games are buggy, boring, or both. Today's game is just a knock-off of a multitude of better physics games. It appears to have been dashed together as quickly as possible with no regard to making it interesting. As usual, your chances of success are based more on chance than skill of any kind, and the repetetive levels get stale immediately. I can't see this thing amusing even the most bored child for more than a few minutes.

I understand the concept of GOTD, I've been coming here since the beginning. And I appreciate the effort that goes into offering free games. But Wheemplay games are just crap. Period. I've given them plenty of chances, but won't try again. They aren't even worth the dollar asking price when there are literally thousands of better free flash games around (just Google) that require no download.

Years ago, when the game giveaway was a daily thing, there was a glut of games from a company called DoubleGames that were similar to these games. And the same complaints were made. These developers should put more effort and time into developing a few really worthwhile games rather than spitting out these cookie-cutter stinkers at breakneck speed.

..........................Moderator comment..............

Ah someone else that remembers Double Games. I agree with you fully on that score and w.r.t. Wheemplay games I'd like to see them packaged together as a series of mini games rather than releasing them as a standalone. Most of the games we've seen from Wheemplay come with barely 20 or so levels, which most demo games will easily give you; however, I'don't entirely agree with you on them all being rubbish. I've actually found several of them quite entertaining and some even came with level editors thus cancelling out the fact that you could easily finish a game in half an hour or less. I do agree that some of their games have been rubbish but I'm not going to list them here. There will always be a wide range of opinions about these games. some community members quite enjoy them, whereas others like yourself obviously think they are total tat.

All of Wheemplay's games can be played for free on many of the free flash game sites. I think the $1 price tag (well 99c) is just a token.

I think the giveaway team have just been trying to ensure that the community hasn't been disappointed that there hasn't been a game. for the past four years of the project the team have struggled to get games for us regularly. They have made a fantastic effort over the last year with hardly any weekends going empty and there hasn't been a break of more than a day for well over a year. Still, times are hard, with game house's being bought out or just closing down totally and developers struggling to make ends meet. Times are hard in the gaming industry. The price of a AAA game hasn't changed over the last decade yet we the consumer expect more out of each game we get. Arcade games are 66% cheaper (and more) than they were several years ago, and developers are now virtually giving their games away in a constant stream of bundles that are ridiculously low in price, just so that they can entice us to part with what little money we have. Isn't it a wonder that we get any games at all?

I wish we could see great games every weekend, but it's just not possible.

forgive the rant. :)

Trivia: Mac package file listings and purpose
Activate.keystring: Key file specific for the Setup.exe included in the Mac package. This is probably what goes on GOTD's activation server. It is invalid for the regular Windows package.
Fanged Fun.exe: The original EXE file wrapped by Setup.exe.
FangedFun.app.zip: Actual Mac version package.
FangedFun.exe: Not sure, seems like an incomplete build of the Zinc projector. Will run, but exits soon after without showing a window.
FangedFun.rar: Most likely package from Wheemplay for GOTD distribution.
FangedFun.zip: Standard Windows GOTD package, with readme.txt and Setup.exe zipped together. NOT the same as the version from the download link.
readme.txt: Your garden variety GOTD Wheemplay readme, failing to change the EXE name and path to what it actually is.
screenshot1..3.jpg: The source files for the screenshots you see above.
screenshot1..3_120.jpg: Thumbnails you see above.
Setup.exe: Wrapper built from Fanged Fun.exe, packaged into FangedFun.zip.

There is something different, other than the key, between the Windows version from the download link above and the one in the Mac package. I'll try to figure it out later.

So, for Mac users, what you're looking for inside the Mac package, after extraction, is the single folder named "Fanged Fun", and underneath that is "FangedFun.app.zip", the actual Mac package that was supposed to be uploaded. Unzip that as normal, drag FangedFun.app to your Applications folder, and run as normal.

Downloaded/installed fine on Vista 64-bit.

* Graphics are simple and nice.

* Physics are good, work pretty well.

* The music is just awful. Why is there quacking? It was fun and peppy for the first few seconds, then it started getting to me. Would like something a little less annoying and maybe add some SFX (like the sound of the blocks rolling or landing).

* Doesn't seem to be a way to access the menu in game. No menu button and when you press ESC, the game closes completely without warning. I don't remember why I needed the menu, but there you go.

There are plenty of these types of games that are free, many of them better (graphics, musics, general feel). I probably wouldn't pay for this game.

I'd give it a 6/10, it's not bad.

I'll bite.. Question for the programmers of this game... what did you consume and is it included with the product purchase? =D

I almost died laughing when I saw the cover photo of the game..

As for the game a good game of physics is a nice change..

The person who packaged the game for Mac screwed up worse than ever. There's a mishmash of files of no particular reason, and seems like the person just distributed everything the developer sent. That said, it seems unwrapped versions of the game are available, so if you're having troubles with the regular Windows version just try the Mac version.

.........................Moderator commnt.....................

Ahh that's why I had an unwrapped executable.

There will be no review today (I'm just about to leave to see the Olympic torch pass through our area of the country) :)

Fanged Fun is a typical flash based Wheemplay physics based puzzle game that unusually for Wheemplay installs into a folder. You can change the install path if you wish.

This game was given away previously last July where it received a positive 54% out of 254 votes and 28 comments were posted. You can see all the comments posted via the following link:

http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/fanged-fun/

There's another new game bundle been posted over in the forums from the Groupee web site. This one has some excellent games included such as Red Orchestra Ostfront, Hamiltons Great Adventure, Avernum The Second Trilogy, and the first two Oddword games plus some music. If you pay anything over $6 you get a bonus game Garshap: The Monster Slayer. You can find the Be Mine 3 link below:

Be Mine 3 Bundle

You can also see links the other three bundles below. All three will end very soon, whereas the Be Mine 3 bundle will be available for at least another 12 days.

The Junebug Bundle ends Tuesday (£3.22 subject to change)

Indiefort bundle (ends Monday 25th June) £60/$90 worth of games for only £3.99

IUP Bundle (ends this weekend) This bundle has a load of games not seen in any bundle before ($3.99)

I though it worth posting details of these bundles as they are amazing value for money, with savings as much as £60/$90 or more and all four bundles have a great variety of games. There's going to be at least one bundle that should interest most community members.
