Introduction
In the dark times of the Medieval a baleful society of the Cult and its adherers strived to seize the rule over the city, control its inhabitants and destroy all sources of knowledge and culture. Help Marla uncover the secret conspiracy, release her kidnapped brother Ray and save the city! Solve numerous quests and puzzles, display courage and wit and don’t let the Cult take control over the Kingdom!

The Game
In Fall of the New Age, our heroine is not a princess, not a fighter, not a magic-user of any kinds but just a normal thief. She has stumbled upon a ritual sacrifice during one of her supposedly normal robberies, her partner is being kidnapped and minutes after, she falls into the same position. Take on the role of Marla, a brave robber as she, along with her friends go on an investigation to stop an evil cult from destroying all the city’s advancement!

Right after the terrific opening sequence, we knew that Fall of the New Age is not going to be a childish, cute or colorful game. Fall of the New Age is a dark and eerie game sets in a gloomy city during medieval times.
Fall-of-the-New-Age-005

Fall-of-the-New-Age-006
We must say though, that even if the scenes are dark and ominous, the graphics are extremely impressive. They are top-notch in terms of production, clear and beautiful with a little of 3D elements in them. This quality goes along in cutscenes as well, where characters animate flawlessly and all of the actions are nothing short of awesomeness. Furthermore, the background music sets the mood of the game pretty well and the voice overs are professionally done.
Fall of the New Age featured a really clever and fun story. There are twists and turns every once in a while, it is exciting as well as captivating and that excitement remains long after the introduction.
There is also one unique feature this game offers which is the Wardrobe we might call it. It is basically a space where your character can change and disguise into another person to trick your enemies; a really smart idea which flows really well with the story. With all these great aspects, we wish Fall of the New Age is a little bit more challenging. As for now, the game is quite linear with a few scenes to visit at a time and with the help of a jump map, the gameplay is pretty simple. There are not a lot of Hidden Object scenes implemented in the game, they are of good quality and are nicely cluttered. Puzzles are good too, some are interesting even though most of them are still on the easy side.

Conclusion
Fall of the New Age is probably one of the most underrated HOPAs, it is so much fun to play and deserves a lot more attention. Production values are sky-high, story is a blast - Fall of the New Age is the new age of HOPA!

Also check out Reddit's Free Games on Steam (These may fluctuate over the week, so it's worth checking daily because there have been quite a few developers offering their commercial games for free during the lock-down - if you see a game, just open your Steam client and search for the game in the store; if it's still available free you'll see that they are 100% off, the site is updated frequently, so if a game is no longer available it's usually tagged with an 'Over' icon. Hurry though because these free games don't stay free long. Once added to your account they become permanently attached). Recent additions that are still live include Ashes of Singularity: Escalation and Four Kings of War. The former requires a Humble account to get the Steam key. Also available is DLC for the free to Play game Battlerite Royale - Mountain Zebra.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thanks for review, looks like a real goodie. Just have to mention I've had no luck with any of those recent, old time free games from Indie & others. Like Cuban Missile Crisis. Nothing could get it to get into the full game past point of introduction, options, setup. Tried all kinds of tricks but think it's way old for Windows 10 X64 Pro on 32 gig mem and such. Others (like the Russian made ones) didn't even get that far. Pops black screen back to desktop as launch runs. Suggests graphics factor, RTX and all that snuffing it.
Have to check Reddit ones as those guys barf right away if something is a nasty boy. Death Coming got some favorables but kinds too cheesy & cartoony for Mother's Day, lol. Total War Shogun 2 freebie has me hooked.

beergas,

Total War Shogun 2 is my favorite Total War game. I have most of the franchise apart from the last 2 (Three Kingdoms and Warhammer 2). I'm waiting for a decent discount on Three Kingdoms, but am going to pass on Warhammer 2 as I didn't enjoy the first one and Warhammer 2 looks similar.

Downoloaded and installed fine yesterday but I did not have a chance to play until today. The game is very good and I am having fun playing it! The graphics, sound, atmosphere and gameplay are all top-notch.

I know I am a day late and not sure if this will even be seen but thought I'd post anyway since I was here. :)

Thank you to all involved with this giveaway! I hope everyone is healthy and safe.

Installed fine on Windows 10 Home Edition 64 bit, colors are a bit dark but I was able to run in windowed mode and details are somewhat sharp. I think I may run in full screen from now on though, if I play it again. My mouse seemed not to run smoothly with the game, it feels a bit "creaky" to me. Not as much of a HOG as I prefer either, lots more puzzles and I hate puzzles for the most part because I feel like I have to get into the mind of the programmer and I'm not really interested. I have enough to do with my own mind, thank you very much...anyway, not much fun, dark, creaky. I have nothing really great to say about it. If you like deductive puzzling, this might be more fun for you. Maneuvering in the dark colors also made my headache a bit worse. Also, I notice the game won't move on to the next scene if you have missed anything so if nothing happens, check the strategy guide.

Installed fine (win 8.1) and so far is playing smoothly. The graphics are very good, and while the puzzles are pretty easy and the occasional HOGs very easy, it was nice to have the strategy guide occasionally to see what's next. About half way through I think and overall, while it's well done, it's not quite as challenging as I would like, so advanced players might not like this (even choosing "advanced", which merely reduces hints, etc.) BTW, in case anyone was curious, to exit you should hit escape as the menu isn't always on screen.

Hi Gary
Great game. I have XP on laptop and to get the game to play I open up the program files folder and launch the Game.exe file. This seems to be a number of recent games (maybe only Toomka). Basically right click on games desktop icon, open Properties, Find Target and click on GAME.EXE.
Hope this helps

My records show we had this before on Apr 05, 2015 but I don't have it listed as a collector edition which we were then given. So that could mean this is an upgrade.

However.... I do not notice any details in the above descriptions of there being more "added" game content other than the walkthrough?

Does anyone here know differently or can better address this point?

Mark,

Collector's Edition includes extra 12 locations (about 60 minutes of gameplay), concept arts, play arts (wallpapers), screensavers, 9 game music tracks.

Gary Lawson, I keep getting a 'BEX' failure which usually is the result of my AV not being turned off but I'd turned everything off to start with and am still having the massive issue with Win7. I've ran into a couple other games with the same problem and never get a solution, I fear this may be another which is a shame as it looks pretty decent.

Addendum: I was able to install after doing it in safe mode, which I guess disabled other things I'm not aware of that were getting in the way.

Gary Lawson,

Check the event logs; they may give a clue as to the problem

"Game crashes , game.exe assertion failed , freezes up windows"

Runs in a Win10 2004 64-bit V/Box VM, though no mouse support, in troubleshooter recommended Win8 compatibility. That would indicate it's not a problem of insufficient graphics hardware capability, since the VM's emulated GPU has hardly any. It did switch the size of the Window the 1st time, but not the 2nd -- maybe the way it resets the screen resolution is a little wonky? Maybe changing the rez manually before starting the game would help? It does appear to use Unity, if that's any help, though doing some Very quick Googling I didn't come across anything. Good Luck :)

It looks like a very nice game and I don't think I played it before. Some of the lettering in the game is not very in focus, but maybe I have to clean my glasses. In The Netherlands it is Mothersday today and tomorrow some of the restrictions here will be lifted. Enjoy today and stay safe!

tiscrea © - The Netherlands,

Same here in Switzerland, restaurants and shops open up again with distance restrictions still on place. And it's Mother's Day as well.

"... tomorrow some of the restrictions here will be lifted."
"Same here in Switzerland, restaurants and shops open up again with distance restrictions still on place."

We're starting slowly here, depending on the state in the US, the biggest problem being some of the people. Many refuse both the distance restrictions &/or wearing masks, even when mandatory, and can get quite violent over it. 2 states had to remove mandatory mask requirements because shoppers were getting violent with the people working in stores, with one guard even getting shot & killed!

Stay Safe Everyone, & Happy Mother's Day!

Ooh, nice! Though based on the screen shots, I’ll repeat my (fairly) frequent plea to HOG developers … I know it’s nice to have some variation from a list of named items, and I know it means less translation into other languages, but I really Really don’t like pictorial lists of items to find. Those are much more difficult for me personally, and I’ve even passed on some otherwise great-looking HOGs offered here because they use
only pictorial/image/visual lists of items to find. Give me a word list every time, please! (Rant over …)
All that said, it looks like the pictorial lists here are occasional, so though it's not ideal for me personally, that's fine. It would be nice to not always go "dark" with the plot, but frankly it's the game and the "treasure hunt" that I enjoy most, with the plot/story line being second at best. A less "dark" plot also usually means fewer Really Dark HOG scenes, those always being more difficult with an LCD monitor than on good old CRTs (it’s a viewing angle thing!). I miss my CRT … >sigh<.
I just noticed that it also looks like this game has a built-in walkthrough: +1 from me! I presume that’s part of the Collector's Edition aspect of this? Anyway: NICE ONE.
So as I'm on a 10-year-old laptop, I hope today's GGOTD won't fry the CPU, as so many games do, despite having a fan permanently pointed at the laptop (proper cooler pad/stand under investigation for ordering soon :) ). Fingers crossed! Playing HOGs in ten minute bursts, and having to stop before thermal shutdown happens, is not ideal either!
Many thanks to Toomky Games for today’s GGOTD, and for the many other enjoyable HOGs they they have kindly offered here in the past.
Now, let’s click on that nice green Download Now button!

Cad Delworth, nice analysis of game - thank you! BTW raise your laptop a couple of inches & then point the fan at it - I taught PC maintenance/building/etc for nearly 20 years & suggested to students to raise their laptops by using something like tuna fish or cat food cans - short cans rather than tall ones for stability.

Cheers - Elkyn

Maybe a fan or two is broken, or it's too clogged with dust, or the heat sink is coated with schmutz so heat doesn't transfer to air. IMHO Laptop coolers probably won't help much, if at all. If servicing the laptop is out of the question, the cheapest categories of PCs nowadays will handle casual games well enough, e.g. I have a $70 tablet that's basically a PC stick that comes with a battery & screen... It'll work as-is, or with an external monitor/TV, and mouse & keyboard, and can be used plugged in so I don't have to worry about the battery running out of juice.

Elkyn, hi .
I had the same overheating problem with my Asus Eee netbook .
I've used 4 caps (one in each corner) from soda bottles and never
had any overheating problem since .
I've used a drop of HUH glue on each cap to make them stick .

Cad Delworth,
Coincidentally, my laptop recently started running hot. I just purchased this rosewill-rwnb17a-gaming-laptop-cooler at newegg last week and so far it is working fine and doing the job. I got it on sale for $20 but I see it is now $25.

I hope that helps.
