Thanks to 2 folks who responded to my earlier query. For some reason I cannot see their responses here, only in my email (which gives no clue who they might be - sorry, would thank you by name otherwise). In case others cannot see the responses either - movement is via the arrow keys, and one person noted they needed to extract the files first before doing setup AND that they needed to install as administrator. Doing this, I STILL get only small black squares in the various boxes, rather than numbers. The boxes do change color, so perhaps the game is still somewhat playable if one bases moves only on color and not on "power of 2" numbers. I gather whole board moves in direction of arrow selected (to far end of board) & boxes combine to next higher state if they move into one another and (maybe?) a new "2" box is added if there are no matches(?). Would be nicer if I could see the numbers, but does seem like it could become addictive.

I gave this game a try and have very mixed feelings.

Great idea and fun gameplay. Apart from installation issues described in a reply below, the 1st try I passed 2048 and figured the idea was to hit it exactly without going over - which I did on the 2nd try. I was very disappointed at the lack of any acknowledgement of this and it just let me go on playing. No options screen means I can't mute or lower the music volume and no way to turn it off except "Alt+F4" or from the task bar/manager. Also, if you do minimize it via "Alt+Tab" the music does not mute.

If it gets a rework, animating the blocks would be nice and definitely add options for the sound + window vs full screen choice would be a huge plus.

Thanks for the offer! A very nice little game, if somewhat anti-climactic.

Ummm, can anyone explain how this game works? All I get when I start it is a grid with 2 white squares with small black rectangles within them (ie, not a number 2). No manual actions I've tried seem to cause anything to happen & I have to go to the Windows key to get back to my desktop so I can terminate the game. What am I missing??

lurkercat, from what i can understand from screenshot, this is a typical 2048 game the goal is to get 2048 block by merging blocks 2 with 2, 4 with 4(probably using left,right,up,down aroow keys) etc until you get to 2048 block,maybe you got bad seed resulting in game end even when it doesn't started yet

lurkercat, I tried it out and had a corrupt insatll because I tried installing directly from the zip (I like to try that since it often works) but when I extracted it and installed I got an error saying some process or other needed elevation! Since I trust GAOTD to screen stuff, I installed as Administrator, and it worked.

I did get the 2 squares with number 2 in each and with no instructions it took me about a minute to figure out to use arrow keys to "collapse" the blocks (in any direction) and like numbers will add while others will just move.

Actually a fun little distraction! I never saw this one before and I like math games.
