Stephen: Yes, I saw that, and it's a wonder that you find the time to do all these reviews, moderate, answer comments, etc., all while 'having a life'! Maybe you could just delete this sort of 'comments on details' after they're fixed, to avoid confusion?

Most of the free and discounted game deals I mention in the last paragraph below end today or soon; for example, Ionball 2: Ionstorm and Welcome to Princeland both end later today, and many of the games on sale via Steam end today, though new titles will be added to their weekly sales.

Expelled
In Brief
A retro platform game about a jailed rabbit.

Installation Issues:
Expelled downloads to a 57 MB zip file that unzips to two files, (a setup executable and a read me). The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed if you wish. The installed game is approximately 130 MB in size.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Expelled
Five shortcuts are installed to the desktop, four of which can be safely deleted . If you want the games shortcut to be installed to the desktop, make sure the appropriate checkbox is checked. Even if this is left unchecked you will still get the four internet shortcuts installed to the desktop; (i.e. Falco Space - Online Game!, FalconLine Online Games Website, FalcoGo WebGL Games! and Free Games Downloads!). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure the appropriate checkbox is unchecked when the 'additional task's window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window).

The Game:
There's some effort here but it just looks like something that should be free on a website, a test game, ludum dare?.. The graphics (apart for the main character where it looks like more effort has been put) resemble early 80s games, some tiles don't blend well, there's minimum animation, level design varies from boring to confusing, very basic sounds and one music loop that gets really annoying after a while and you cannot even mute it. There are very limited options and you cannot even switch to window-mode (although it starts in window and straight up goes to fullscreen). The production values of this game are much lower than the price would suggest so it's a roman thumbie downwards for me.

Controls:

⦁ A = Move Left
⦁ D = Move right
⦁ K = Jump
⦁ E or Enter = Action
⦁ Esc = Pause or return to game
⦁ R = Restart
⦁ Q = exit to main menu
⦁ Controller option available
Conclusion:
The controls are very basic and un-mappable which for a left handed person like myself was essential for this game. The controls are not very intuitive, feeling really sluggish. I died constantly trying to get past the first platform so gave up after 15 minutes of trying to proceed. A crouch control would have been useful. The games music took me back to the early 1990's when in-game music was a basic loop played on a stylaphone. It was extremely annoying, thankfully you can turn down or off the music via the options menu

Suggestions:
After you've had an opportunity to play today's giveaway please take a few moments to give some positive or negative feedback; for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, or how it could be improved. If you don't like the genre at all, please explain why and if any, what improvements would change your mind? If you don't have time to post a comment today, please do so at your convenience, thank you. If you wish to post a review or comment about the game later, you can access the comments section by going to the game giveaways home page, then scroll to the bottom of the page where it says Archives and select the date the giveaway was live (giveaway days are in bold type). This will open the appropriate page for you to post your comment or review. Alternatively, you can google the name of the game and include Gamegiveawayoftheday in the search. This should give you a list of links to whenever this game was given away.
If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via Steam for £0.79/$0.99 HERE.
Problems getting the game to work:
If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Expelled to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try white-listing the setup.gcd file. In the almost 12 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.

If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, you have a game to offer the community, or are unable to download the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve you can do so HERE
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the developer Whited43 and Falcoware the distributor for giving away Expelled nd also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

Hi, Stephen!
"Expelled downloads to a 57 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper the set-up file and a read me)"
Nope, as in all these 'weekday games', just a setup and a readme, no GCD...

alexyu,

:) Hi Alexyu, thanks for pointing that out. I was working on two games concurrently. just forgot to adjust that little detail. I must have been distracted because I did change it on the other game. All sorted now.

alexyu,

..................................Moderator comment.....................................

:) Hi Alexyu, I was forced into early retirement 13 years ago (Sept 2005) due to a serious road traffic accident where a car hit me at speed (around 60 miles per hour) from behind while I was cycling to work and left me with four broken vertebrae and a serious head injury - I lost almost 4 inches in height , partly because the hospital missed the injuries, (to this day I cannot understand how a qualified accident & emergency doctor missed seeing the breaks as they were very obvious when I first saw the x-rays after purchasing my medical notes when a solicitor friend advised me to). Then they sent me home with no treatment. I used to cycle 40 miles a day; partly to save money and partly to stay fit, that didn't work, lol. I've not worked since. Gaming and family saved my sanity as I used to be a very gregarious person and loved my work.
I started moderating after complaining to the giveaway team, that I wasn't able to edit the reviews I posted; I posted those as a thankyou because this giveaway project introduced me to a lot of games I would never have thought to try. At the time I only played AAA game such as first person shooters (Battlefield & others), role playing games (the Elder Scrolls & others) and real time strategy games (Total War series & others) , with the occasional arcade game such as breakouts and shmups. Match 3's, time management and hidden object games were never of interest to me; but this project did give me the opportunity to find some that I did enjoy (Treasures of Montezuma and the Atlantis games and the Luxor series) as well as introduce me to other arcade genres such as tower defense games.
I'm always posting reviews with mistakes; even after proof reading them; so the giveaway team gave me access to the admin panel so that I could edit them. That was back in 2008 just before the giveaways went to weekends only. I agreed to moderate at the same time. It can be time consuming, especially if I'm not familiar with the game and it's one reason (the other was time) why I started using reviews by other people around 5-6 years ago, especially if I agree with them and usually if it's a game I don't usually play. I nearly always write my own reviews if its a game I enjoy playing and I have the time. Reviews can take anywhere between 2 to 6 hours to complete depending on how much external help I've had (not including the time I spend taking screen captures and actually playing the game). If I don't enjoy playing the game, or am busy with other projects I will usually look for other reviews of the game online.
Thanks for the suggestion. I think its a good idea as it would keep most comments appropriate to the game. Will delete comments from now on if they are just to remind me of something. :)

Hi, Stephen!
I had picked up most of your 'story' from your posts over the years (and the accident is why I feel that riding bikes on roads used by motor vehicles involves too much risk -- or, rather, the 'size' of the potential risk is unacceptably high, as was your case; in Brazil, a 'car fender' is called a "shock-stopper", and I always say that, with bikes, YOU are the 'shock-stopper'), and your rising above the situation and living your life is always an inspiration.
As for the posts, just cutting out the 'error-correcting' bits might be enough, like I usually do when replying to email: I cut out the greetings, and anything which doesn't need replying to, in my reply. The only 'caveat' might be that some people might see that as 'censorship' -- but, in such cases, I'm afraid even deleting the post entirely would have that problem; but, except for some 'trolls', I guess that shouldn't be a worry.
Thanks for all your care and attention on these forums.
