Eternal Fidelity is a old school arcade game where you protect the princesses from a constantly moving stinging bee while redirecting it at enemies using your shield. The game was released Jan 27, 2023 but has never been given away before on GOTD.
You move around with the WASD keys that are not remappable in game such as to arrow keys which should always be added, and use the mouse and left mouse button to bring up your shield to deflect and re-aim the flying bee in the direction of the arrow to take out all enemies. After you deflect the bee you have to press the left mouse button again to put your shield back up or its the end for you if you get hit again without that protection. Be careful, the bee must not hurt the princesses knocking the bee accidentally toward them. The number of princesses who all must be identical twins as well as enemies are shown at the bottom of the screen.
For those wondering yes this is from the same template used for King Pig given away here Feb 7 2023 and others but is slightly more playable but still a short game. The gameplay is slightly difficult, the bee moves somewhat fast but again improved over some other efforts where it was just way too fast and nearly unplayable so you have to get better at aiming in the right directions to hit the enemies while moving around at the same time to get in the right position to protect the last princess at least.

I know that saving the princess has a long tradition in gaming, but I thought modern gamers were aware of the unpleasant gender implications, and modern games no longer used this tired trope.

Corylea,
It's a game, pretend, not real. Same way all the shoot and bomb, kill everything thing you see games aren't real. If we all complained about stuff like that there would be no more fun games to play because developers would just give up and not make any. That sort of complaining is what is getting books banned. Everyone one is different and variety in all things is what makes life interesting.
Just pretend you are saving a prince.

LadyLei, Oh, I don't know LadyLei. It could just as easily been save the Prince, or save the President or Prime Minister - and could have been either gender, or both, since there's more than one Princess in this version. Isn't it the game play that matters most?
The problem Corylea is that these are made as games for mature people, where they shouldn't be the type of thing that can sway people's important views. However, since they can be played by the immature, no matter their age ;), your complaint becomes more valid. I think you have the right to make that criticism, but I guess it's mostly about the very tough job of parenting. When that doesn't go right, your going to have a problem, no matter what. Certainly there's a limit. I think most of us would be turned off if this were a big scale adventure and your job was to save a helpless, whiny, privileged, ditzy woman. Unless, maybe, the person doing the fighting was a woman. Atlhough, this game is an historically patriachal setting. Which is also, unfortunately, an easy excuse for the sexist. Just to illustrate that point, a prominent political commentator complained that Princess Peach in the current Mario movie shouldn't be capable of defending herself, but should be a damsel in distress!
Takes all kinds.
