I am having a tough time getting by level 3-7. I think I tried at least 40 times to get beyond it.
My wife has gone beyond that level now on her computer, but I am still stuck.
Would like to see some additional clocks and bombs for people in this situation. (if tries at this level > 40 add clocks and bombs)lol.
Good game.

It appears that the penalty for random clicks keeps its counter going continuously. I think it would be a better idea to decrement its value by something for each good click (or time span). For example: say it gives a penalty for every 5 bad clicks. It currently seems that those 5 clicks can be spread out over the whole level. It would be nice if a good click subtracted something - say .5 or .25. Then the random accidental clicks would be erased, but the burst-mode random clicker would still get penalized.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Once the giveaway is over I tend not to check the comments section until later n the week. Usually to see if there are any games for the coming week so that I can start to prepare.

Thank you for your feedback.

After having reached level 3-7 - I think there's a typo up there in the review: it mentions 2-7 as being nigh impossible. But - I remembered it wrong when I started playing, and thought that 2-8 was mentioned. When I finished 2-8, I thought: oh - that wasn't so hard. I came back, and read 2-7, and couldn't remember it being a problem.

That said: I've lost track of the number of times I've tried 3-7. I think *everything* needs to come together just right to beat that level.

Installed fine on XP Home.

Match 3 are not my favorites (H.O.G. is my preference.)

As per previous comments, I'm old & slow. Reading that it took someone 2 years to get through this I was expecting quite a bit. However, I finished the game in just a couple of hours.

I have nothing to say about music & sound effects as I always turn them off before I ever start playing any game.

ZoneAlarm AV warns that this program is attempting to monitor user activities. It may try to track or log keystrokes, mouse movements/clicks, web sites visited, and other user behaviors. I've denied this behavior and the game still plays. Okay then.

.....................Moderator comment....................
Game giveaways are throughly checked for all forms of malware. Its in the giveaway teams best interest as if they started to give games away that had malware they would soon lose their buisness. What Zone Alarm probably picked up was the phone homepart of the installation package. If as yo say there were such behaviours as key loggers etc more users would have reported this.

Finally convinced to test after WR's extensive review and much other good feedback here. This one definitely grabbed me. Basically strikes me as Fishdom, with the blockout type elimination rather than sliding match 3. Lots of interesting ideas and very attractive graphics. I'm a survivor type player myself so don't miss relaxed mode myself, though it would help to work out ideas, but that just means you have to repeat a level over and over until you work it out.
I'm generally in favor of help files. Expert players who know the type can simply refuse to look at the help file and take things as they comes. Still, this game seems to ease you into each new wrinkle at just the right pace.
Music is a little bland on level 1, better on 2. I like the countdown/suspense music. Wouldn't mind that type of music throughout the level, but it would probably give some casual players a nervous breakdown. :) Level complete sound is a little too loud in comparison with other sounds and music. I'm convinced the "Expert, Master, Advanced, Apprentice" stuff simply refers to how fast you complete the level and is just a guidelne. I do admit the decorative graphics between levels take a second or 2 to happen, but am not in that big a hurry. Clock was a little hard to find, stuck up way up in the top, actually cut off. Progress "glass" seems superflous.
Definitely a keeper. At least a 7, perhaps an 8, though I am a match 3 addict. Good price, normally. Thanks.

WR, thanks for posting the tag information. Though I don't agree that the occassional CAPS for emphasis is the same as whole sentences of "shouting", I guess I'll have to behave myself and be less lazy and start using the tags to create the proper emphasis. As you say, it's certainly the standard etiquette and not something you came up with. You know better than I, it's been that way a long, long time.

Hope Mom-in-law gets well soon. You wouldn't fall asleep at the keys if you didn't try to do so much for us all the time, but, as always, we are greatly appreciative.

Thank you for your feedback Watcher.

I don't always get to see what the next days game is until late, so i end up working on the review over night. Sometimes not getting any sleep at all. A new game giveaway, that is one that's never been given away can take me several hours to play, research and write up. I always try to play the game for at least a couple of hours to get a good feel for the game. Its not always possible, but I try my best. I'm not always happy with the eviews. They usually feel rushed to me.

Good game. Installed without a problem on Vista 32-bit. I just made sure I shut down Norton Internet Security's AV & Anti- Spyware during the installation because that seems to prevent the installation.

The game ran smoothly. I thought I wasn't going to like it because the matching objects seemed rather dull, but as the game progressed more objects were added and the boards became more difficult with various obstacles that have to be overcome. This isn't one of those M-3 games where you earn extra objects to help you out when you get stuck, like a hammer or a bomb (at least as far as I've played into it). You are also playing against a timer, though certain matches do add extra time to the clock as the game progressed.

All the Alawar games that I own are always good games that work well. If you like Match-3 games, this one is worth getting. You think you're just going to play one more layout, and then you look at the clock and 30 minutes has gone by - lol.

I've only played to level 2-2 so far ("founded" my first crystal), but am really enjoying this so far: I like the scene screen which evolves after each level - nice touch!

I thought I'd turned on Hints at the Options, but haven't got any, so I'm flying blind as to what causes the line explosions and certain symbol zaps; but I'm sure I'll figure it out as I play.

Very nice game! Thanks Alawar & GGOTD!

Hints are turned on by default. If you've clicked the tips button to turn them off you've probably turned them off.

Downloaded and runs fine on windows XP professional--I liked that when you fail a level you don't have to start the game over, just that level.
I Don't mind the timer, graphics are nice. I was sick today so I fiddled around with it all day and actually did complete the whole game, had fun and kept my mind occupied. Thanks

A very nice takeoff on the usual match 3 games. It took me a few seconds to figure out why I couldn't make the pieces move! LOL.
I managed to beat every level through 2-7 on the first try, and am now on 2-8, having failed it 2x. I see a few others have gotten well past there, and I'm going to attribute it to my age and speed not being what it once was. (Excuses, excuses!)
I am really enjoying this game. As has been mentioned before, the lower levels are very simple and may bore some, but if you give it a chance and work into the upper levels, you will find it challenging and enjoyable. Thanks Alawar and GGOTD.

Hello. I found a problem with this game. When one clicks on a group of matching pieces, these disappear and there is also a time penalty. The reason this happens is that the game program is picking up extraneous clicks. A brand new mouse mostly alleviates the problem. Perhaps the game program wasn't debounced properly.

It would have been nice if this had a "relaxed mode." I would not pay $6.99 for something that I don't at least have that much control over, especially considering the "clicks problem."

Also, the display is very cluttered ("busy"). It's difficult to follow the meaning of all of the various pieces. That's a problem in something this complex with a time limit.

Another interesting note, and funny :) : On some levels I was rated as an "expert," some a "novice" and some were not able to be finished without several tries. Random chance is too great of a factor. Thus the time limit should be increased, or simply have it play without the time limit.

The game giveaway yesterday, "Oh My Candy" was a big hit. We really appreciated that and the family completed all of the levels (almost too quickly). :)

Thanks Game giveaway and whiterabbit-uk

Yup - now that I have 'show tips' to be a black diamond, I've been getting some hints. Such as that weird sound that happens sometimes means I've clicked randomly too many times. I might have to start again as a new player to find out what I've been missing.

One thing, though, is the game doesn't check the settings on the mouse buttons. I have my mouse under my left hand, and have swapped the buttons (right click is 'select', left brings up the 'option' menus). In the game, I have to sit and pinky click the whole time. This problem isn't unique to this game - but neither is it universal. Just a minor hassle.

It's a day, though. 3-6

..........................................Moderator comment...............................

Thanks for the feedback Dave, glad that was sorted. I use my left hand as well, but never bothered to swap the buttos. Got used to it eventually.

The options panel doesn't seem to be consistent: if I have 'custom cursor' so its black - the cursor is just a white arrow; if it looks like a jewel - I get a fancy cursor. But - for 'Windowed mode', a jewel means 'full screen' while black puts it into a window.

I started out by setting 'show tips' to a jewel - but I've seen no hints.

Currently on level 2-9 - tis a fun game.

..............................Moderator comment............................

If you've changed the settings you may have unchecked tips; they are set to 'on' by default. I got tips whenever something new cropped up. You can see some of the tips I received via the slideshow link I've posted in my review.

Installed OK on Vista Home Prem, x64. Activated fine.
Enchanted Cavern game is different and fun than the other match 3 I am used to. Music is fun & different. Thanks to Alawar & GGOTD Team.

Caroline above is right about Free Games at MyPlayCity ... but she was NOT kidding about Adverts ... you have seen nothing unless you have tried one of their So-called Freebies. I missed "Around The World in 80 Days" game giveaway about a month or so ago here at GGOTD ... and since I was Crying day in and day out ... one of the Mods here took pity on me and hooked me up with MPC ... which I had never tried before ... well I installed the game A-OK ... avoided all the Extras, Toolbar and what Not ... but still got to be Real ANNOYING ... so I uninstalled it.

Now, I don't understand why GGOTD gives their Nice(r) games away on Sunday's ... that is when I missed it ... like this one!

Thanks! :)

Sorted the password for you. As for the problem with installing giveaways. Post the issue in the forums once you've checked to see if you can access them and contact the giveaway team. It may be your security software that's blocking out the registration process. the new method uses security software that may be activating your security or firewall. If you are still having problems with respect to accessing your forum account contact me on the following email redmoonrising@live.co.uk

You can get Enchanted Cavern for free 24/7 from MyPlaycity via the following link:

http://www.myplaycity.com/enchanted_cavern/

When installing MPC games always make sure all check-boxes are unchecked during installation otherwise you may find an extra MPC or Ask toolbar installed and your home page and browser search engine changed. These can easily be put back to normal, but its still annoying. There's no reason not to install the games as they are perfectly normal in every other way. When you shut down any MPC game your browser is automatically opened to MPC's home page, but this is totally innocuous. It can give you the opportunity to see if they have any new games. MPC have well over 500 good quality arcade games on their books. Most of their games are still being sold by other game distributors. You may wonder how MPC can give away all of these commercial games. Basically they make their money via adverts on the site and the installation of toolbars etc. They purchase licences from the owners of the games.

p.s. they have over 120 match three games available for free, some of which such as Treasures of Montezuma 1 & 2 are brilliant.

Hi,

Had minor trouble with the unzipping. It went to another folder, so opened twice and worked beautifully. No problems. At first wondered if would like after reading about the timing, but have plenty of time. First levels worried that would be boring and go on forever, but then other items brought into play made it more interesting. Have finished to the opening of the fairy door and all works great!
Thanks for another great game. Lee

I can not get this game or the game last time to install or load ? I did what I usually do to get them. The one time it loaded some and popped up play for 60 minutes free or pay $6.99 to play. i thought it was all free today, not a trial. Any help you can give me please? Also, I did try to do this through the forum but it would not let me.

Every game giveaway given away since the project started back in 2006 have been full versions. There's probably something running on your compuer, most likely security software that's stopping the game from registering. Once you've downloaded and unpacked the giveaway zip file try turning off back ground security temporarily to see if that's the problem. Once the game is installed (assuming it does) turn your security software back on. It may be your firewall blocking the registration process.

Installed easily on Windows 7 64bit.
The game is an enjoyable time killer to help wind down after a long day. The graphics are decent..not mind-blowing...but they aren't sub par either. I have 3 suggestions for the devs:

1) Shortcut fix. There was no shortcut made neither my computer nor my husbands. We had to go into the root directory to create our own and put it on the Start Menu.

2) Relax mode. It's been brought up before, so 'nuff said.

3) Scoring????? I was gigged once for 'random clicking' and received a message stating that. I didn't do it on purpose, but I understand why it did that. However, there were numerous times that I made a clicked on a group and it disappeared and I still saw the score of "-30" or something like that float up. My husband and I both tried to figure out what the game was expecting of me and what I was being penalized for. We can't figure it out. Some tips in that area would be nice as well.

..............................Moderator comment..........................

Hi Dawn, the lack of a shortcut is from the giveaway side. If you purchase the game from Alawar or other places like big Fish you will get a shortcut to both the desktop and the Start Menu. Most giveaways lack shortcuts. Something to do with the wrapping process (I presume). Thank you for your useful feedback. This is the first in the series of Enchanted Caverns. Maybe if they create a third these issues will be addressed.

I have tried twice now to run setup.exe to no avail, each time the error message after setup.exe is run and I choose the extraction directory is "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged". I use winrar as the default extraction program in my computer for many years and I don't intend to change now. What is wrong with this setup package?

..................................Moderator comment........................

Hi Gmon, are you trying to run the setup directly from the archive? you do need to unpack the set up from the zip filefirst. If you are still getting an error I've had the same problem myself previously. Try using a different file archiver to unpack the game set up file. I've posted links to several different file archivers over in the games discussion forum. Just follow the link below:

Why would you remove the timer? What fun would the game be then? Pointless! It would turn into a matching game for toddlers.

Personally I don't mind the timer, it gives me a challenge (sometimes); however, some users like to take it slow, using these games to chill out.

Downloaded/installed/activated fine on Win 7/64 Home. As usual, as soon as possible, I changed options to NO music, LOW sound, and windowed mode. Thank you for those options.

I haven't played a match 3 like this before. I won't have much time to spend on it today, but I did play long enough to get "Master" and really enjoyed it. Like others have said, it would be good to have some more tips/help as the game progresses, such as what Master means. I also vote for a relaxed option that just lets you play without any timer. I suspect that when I get to higher levels, it will become more frustrating than entertaining and I'll stop playing (or create another player and start over). I play games to relax and exercise my brain, not to show I'm better than someone else. Developers may not realize this, but as you get older, your vision and reflexes decline a bit. Those of us with a history of Alzheimer's disease in the family need to exercise our brains regularly. Playing games is good for the brain, but constant frustration isn't good for the blood pressure. :-)

I'll mention a pet peeve, not unique to this game, but something I wish could be changed. Like almost every game I install, this one came up in full screen mode on initial launch. There is something about my resolution that immediately forces other programs I'm running to resize their windows smaller. It makes no sense. I always set my browser's window (and most everything else) to be the full size of the screen by dragging the window (not maximizing). Yet these games that take over the full screen always do the equivalent of dragging the window size of my other programs smaller, usually to about a quarter of the screen. So I have to drag them all back to my preferred size, one by one. If the programs would prompt me for my preferences (including whether I want music/sound blasting on top of everything) on initial launch, I could avoid all the "collateral damage."

Thanks Alawar and GGOTD for the fun game!

Well, I thought this looked familiar but wasn't sure so downloaded it. Download and install went fine. You do need to use the game cursor for smooth play on this XP laptop. I have played this game before and deleted it due to the smallness of the game pieces and the fact that I can't get off level 3.7! Tried again for a bit and still can't get off 3.7 so I won't be keeping it. If it comes back at a later time with a relaxed mode, even if the pieces stayed the same I would keep it. I would give it a 5 because of the timer, without that I would give it an 8 due to small tiles.

Fishdom Premium update. total 51, 137, 597, highest level score 73,370 and am on level 2063. I find a play it a lot when watching (listening) to a tv show. It is relaxing as today's offering is not. I use games to relieve stress not create more.

Just want to tell you I "solved" the no sounds problem, but I'm not sure how. I just kept playing with the various sounds settings, and then suddenly I had sound. So I don't think it was a game problem. Now, if I could just find out how to change the game difficulty setting from "normal"...

..........................Moderator comment...........................

I must apologise for now giving you much help with your first post. My son had friends around and I'd promised they could use my computer because most of my others are offline at the moment (needing repair up upgrades). I rushed through the last several comments (including yours) so didn't quite realise you were having problems. Glad you sorted it.

As for the difficulty question. I think it may be that once you've finished the game you will be given an opportunity to play it on a more difficult level. this would make sense considering there are less than 50 levels available; however I can't qualify this.

I found the game a little weak in game play. It just doesn't excite me. It's a good game, it's just average to me. :|

Music is good but then I turn it down low. Graphics are O.K. The concept is so-so. Just clicking on tiles is a little boring to me. The mini-games are good though.

Thanks to Alawar for being here. I always look forward to their games. :)

I'm getting: The archive is either in unknown format or damaged

Window 7 64 bit.

............................Moderator comment........................

Have you tried using a different file archiver. i've had the same problem previously and found using a different one worked. Check out my FAQ's post over in the Game discussion forums. check the stickies, about half way down you'll find the appropriate thread. I've posted a link to it above as someone else had this problem. :)

Very enjoyable game. I have a couple of glitches, though. I'm running Win7 64 bit. I have several Alawar games, and this game has a quirk which some f my other Alawar games have. I load the game justr fine, but I can't see the cursor. After "flying blind" for a while I can highlight the button I want. If, under options, I click on custom cursor, the mouse stays on top and is just fine (I have my desktop mouse settings to be always on top and don't usually have this problem running games).
The other problem I have not run into with an Alawar game- I have no sounds, though they are set high. So is my computer volume. I don't know how to solve that problem.
I agree with others that a help section, or how-to-play, would be very helpful.
I notice when I close the game, the screen says I am set to nrmal difficulty. I see no way to change this, to, say, easy or expert.
I have not yet had difficulty with the timed mode, but as I progress throuh the levels I'm sure I shall. I agree with others that there should be an untimed mode.
Having said all that, I appreciate Alawar sharing this game with us, and GGOTD for bringing it to us. It is very enjoyable.

Posting here because no password sent to me for the forum.
Setup doesn't - no visible result.
You offer this, and yesterday's, game for "Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7" - I run W2000pro (can't afford to update) but am unable to install a game since you added the .gcd file. Think that your Setup should function for all the W versions proposed for the game, otherwise it's not a fair trial for the developer. (As well as being v disappointing for people like me.)

Update:

I've just found something out about the cursor being difficult to see and having to play blindly most of the time. If anyone else is having this problem, please go to the options menu and select "Custom Cursor". This seems to use different cursor drawing routines that do not interefere with the graphics and the cursor is much easier to see then and click accurately with.

I meant to mention also that I hope your M-I-L is going to be alright?

#16 Whiterabbit-uk - I have had people asking me about how to fix their computer, when it has turned out to need a new keyboard. Politely termed "Moisture Ingress", it has occasionally turned out to be that they fell asleep at the computer and drooled into the keyboard... Not so bad on a desktop system with a cheap keyboard, but quite expensive when it was a laptop.

If it's any consolation, I've fell asleep at the computer numerous times also, but luckily I've not slobbered onto mine (yet?)...

I'm always falling asleep at the keyboard. Thankfully so far no moisture ingress. I'd be mad at myself if such a thing was to mess up my keyboards as my main keyboard cost £120 (Razer Black Widow Ultimate Stealth) and my secondary keyboard cost £60 several years ago ( Logitech G15). We also have a nother Razer keyboard that cost just over £100 plus another cyborg that cost about £50. all gaming keyboards. I do have several cheaper ones, the favorite being a microsoft ergonmic keyboard thats an odd shape and a Wolf King (circular in shape) that's more a key pad with most of the Querty keys missing. I use that one for FPS and RPG games. :)

Kind of a nice game, but I've found two things I do not like personally.

The colours are very "pastel", not bright, vivid colours like normal on this monitor (HP Laptop). This is just a personal preferance of course, but the were too "washed out" for my own personal preferances.

The second is more serious. My cursor when playing it is the standard Windows arrow (as with all games from you). Even with the latest drivers, is still blinks constantly, making it quite hard to see. The explosions are nice, but blot out the cursor entirely, so sometimes you do not click where you were expecting to - And in this game that costs you a time penalty for "Random Clicking". My clicks are not random, just obscured!

Hopefully something can be done in future releases of games, as it does detract quite a bit from the fun sadly.

It looks good - the backgrounds are very nicely done, pleasantly naturalistic rather than cartoon-y, which tends to make the game seem more suited to children.

The tiles to match are quite small, and my eyes had trouble looking carefully enough to plan ahead for big groups. I ended up just click-click-clicking, aware that time was slipping away.

It's a bit fast for me to get very far with it, but I think this is a game you could play for a few minutes during a tea break. This is a plus point for those of us who spend all our days working . . . or ought to!

Overall, I would say that "Enchanted Cavern" won't be a favourite for me, but is certainly worth keeping for occasional play when I feel energetic enough. I got as far as the first Crystal at my first attempt, but by that time I was ready for a restorative cup of tea.

A relaxed mode would make things easier, but perhaps that's my age talking. It is a good game, it looks good, sounds good - and it doesn't half wake you up.

Thanks once again! Oh, and all the best of get-well wishes for your mother-in-law, Whiterabbit. I hope she makes a full recovery.

There have been a couple of places in my life that used to make me stressed about what was going on there (e.g. the yard of our former school, the house of the funniest guy...). No matter if I was going to be part of the action or just attend the place, I didn't want to miss it; it was what we did back then.
Nowdays I have a couple of virtual places! GOTD and GGOTD are my joint, although I want to stop visiting them so much (mostly because of a time issue). When I don't have time to read as much as I want here I tend to make note of the page to read it in the future (although often I never read it). It's not only about the downloads and the info. Whiterabbit, it's not like I don't care for the users' comments, too, but now that you started posting again it's more stressful for me to catch up because there are more things going on here. You are a big part of this atmosphere GGOTD has (even better than the GOTD's one). So, these few weekends were more relaxed;
but now... thanks for the new wave of stress!
As for the game, for one more time I will have to leave the downloading and run of it for later (maybe the last moment), when I can combine it with other tasks.

Great W7 x64 Ultimate. Not total 24" but big enough. No issues w/ the countdown clock & as mentioned there's ample time to make it just enough of a push rather than a brain stroke. Music & sound sliders. Not worse tune track than have ever heard. Pretty optional cursor.
Just did first 2 levels. Keeper. Curious to see what they throe in as match broad levels develop. First two afforded plenty of fair marches so hoping 'difficulties' aren't simply tightening up on 'randomness'. So many match games go that way and I quit from boredom-tedium of making matches looking for a final fair match to win. Just knowing that's the game style ends it for me.
Cleat, well defined game board & pieces. WR all best with the lady. Bone injuries when up in years are much more serious than schoolyard spills. Thanks gang for fun one after Sat so-so thing.
9.5/10 at start esp for fans of match games.

I purchased and downloaded this game and it's 2nd version from Big Fish Games and got hooked immediately. It's very addicting as you move through the levels. The pieces could stand some updating, they're flat and ho hum. The others have echoed this and I'm no different as the timer makes playing less relaxing than I'd like. I hate being timed and tend to steer clear of those games that have timers but since this is addicting and since I'm a sucker for Match 3 games especially with beautiful graphics and interesting music, I keep it and play it when I want a jolt of adrenalin to jump start a lazy afternoon. I did manage to finish the game and got rewarded nicely which is why I purchased the 2nd version (the 2nd version has a relaxed mode)Enchanted Cavern though is a great starter game for anyone not familiar with Match 3 and since you don't actually swap pieces but click on groups of same-colored tiles, it makes the fast play a little easier to do.

Thanks for the feedback Deborah. I agree with you on updating the tokens. The bonuses need to be made more obvious as well. :)

Sorry its taken so long to post my review. I was too tired last night to complete the thing (I fell asleep at the keyboard about 9pm and woke up around 5am this morning. Thankfully no imprint of the keyboard was found on my forehead as has happened in the past). ;-)

Today has been hospital visiting time. My mother-in-law took a fall on Friday and fractured her hip. They left her for two and a half hours outside in the garden, freezing cold before an ambulance arrived by which time she was in a deep shock. anyway, I went to see her today, so my review had to be put on the back burner. It should be posted within the next hour for anyone that wants to read it.
