It would be a good game if it were not so buggy. It keeps crashing (under Vista), and when I restart the save file turns out to be in a corrupt state so it's impossible to proceed. Getting to the final chapter and then finding you have to go all the way back to the beginning and start again does not make for a good game experience.

I can't get out of the library. Found the color wheel in the cabinet and assume crystals on the other wheel (forgot the name)have to be pushed in the same order as the flashing lights on the color wheel. My problem is that the colors on the wheel at the window are so small I can't determine what color they are. Can these be made larger?

Well wanted to thank you for your help last night. Dnld another game from gametop and it ran just fine. Did the DXDiag and found no problems. Good luck with ur meeting tomorrow. And for those comments today about problems with virus checking, AVG gives lots of false positives but on the other hand have never had any virus, trojans, hijacks, etc on my puter since I started using it yrs ago, so I'll put up with the falsies! Heck it doesn't even trust MS update site! And thank you for all these games, suggested other sites for free games.........now all I need is an external hard drive!! All the best to you and yours.

I will not moderate any more comments that cannot qualify the presence of a Trojan or comments like "I’ve just gone through sessions to clear the last Trojan from the files". Which imply that they got the trojan from a giveaway. If you want to post about this please give full information such as what AV software you are using and whether you've had a malware problem recently prior to downloading a giveaway.

No problems downloading or installing with Windows 7. Another great game from Playrix. I have never had a game from them yet that I didn't enjoy. The graphics and sound are great. There is a good mix of challenges so you don't get bored. Thank you Game Giveaway

The problem I have with the game is not about not knowing how to get on, but when using the magic to make the basket, nothing happens and you cannot go on playing. Same problem as # 32, I guess . It leaves a green circle with a smootch spot. When playing on-line I can easily get past this level. I am a bit sad I cannot seem to play the game, but I still have a number of wonderful games to play thanks to GGOTD.

I quickly tried it briefly & there's nice imagination put in the game the only negative I see so far is there is no save button to save the game for future play. It should definitely be added....unless I missed it.

I downloaded The Call Of Atlantis in October & I liked it. When I told my wife about it she played it & she's addicted. there are times she falls asleep playing the game & is up till 2 in the morning "trying" to play when she's 1/2 asleep. Before she discovered the game she was asleep by 11pm. Playrix seems to make quality games with excellent graphics. It is somewhat (Call Of Atlantis) similar to a game my wife plays periodically called Collapse which she hasn't played in awhile since she was called to Atlantis. will try this one even though it's a heavy file at 94.2Mb which could ive me a hernia but, it's worth the try. Thank you Playrix & GAOTD & Happy Holiday to all.

as for the game itself...had played a demo online before, and i like...it's a keeper....two thumbs (and two big toes) up
now the negs: slight hitch-in-thegitalong with the sound (win7x64 home premium)...
[site (not game) comment: much difficulty getting a download, after i got one, had no problem activating...THEN system crash, downloaded fresh copy and now "failed to connect" for at least hour trying to get a fresh activation...here on the west coast the offer is still valid for another 90 minutes of so]
this is the first time i have ever had a problem withe a ggotd/gotd product/offer; all the other offers i have tried have gone smoothly...gotd is definitely reputable

Gee 30.9mb downloaded this time ! different computer, differrent internet location. The first was an android mobile U8300 that i have a 5gb data allowance per month, that i hook up to an Acer 5670 laptop. Got 11mb using that yesterday Oz time. Today, i'm using the wi-fi @ the local library, which gives a 105mb allowance per day, using my HP Mini 110, upgraded with 2gb of ram. The fact that
"Thousands of users download these games every week and I’ve never had a problem downloading any game giveaway. That would indicate that the problem is at your end. What type of connection do you have? Try using a download manager; there are several available for free.",
is like taking a paint brush approach to the internet and all it's connections. I, as well as other users, don't have super fast broadband connections to utilize the dropouts that seem to occur, every so often. It is frustrating to waste time when it should be less of a headache. PS: what download managers do u recommend?. Email me if it is not the place to post here. Thank You.

...................Moderator comment.........................

check back later. Though I did post some information about download managers some weeks ago, so you could look back over the last few games and search through the comments. It should be easy to see due to the links i've posted. :)

Having a problem I've never run into before and have done everything I have seen suggested here and in the forums. Computer is uptodate with all drivers, patches, etc. Using WinXPHome,SrvPk 3. Have a screenshot to show prob but can't remember my pasword or what mail addy I used when I got it yrs ago. Been waiting for a new registration but still not shown up in mailbox after about 10 hrs so posting here.

Everything goes as usual. Downloads fine, unzips fine, activates fine. When the game comes up I have a mostly white screen with the game title visible only and the game cursor. Can sorta see under the whiteout the graphic are there, just can't see them. Looks sorta like everything was highlighted but that is not the case.

Tried starting from scratch with mirror site, Playrix site and also GameStop. Same problem. Tried all the compatibility options in every possible combination. Went to MS and checked updates, downloaded and installed everything even thou none of it seemed relevant. Ditto the same with Dell. Machine is Dell Inspiron 1000 XP Home SP 3. All the other games on my system run as usual. The only thing I have done differently lately is play some DOSbox games (DragonSpear n A Tale of Two Kingdoms).

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be grateful.

I tried to download it but my virus thing said there was a trojan file and deleted it. How do I get around this one?????

.........................Moderator comment............................

Open up your AV software and add the game to exceptions. check Google for answers as you haven't said which AV software you use. They tend to have different procedures for different AV software. (I won't be able to answer any reply till when the giveaway is almost over as i need to get some sleep) Alternatively you could try installing the software with the AV software turned off. all game giveaways are tested throughly. There has never been a game giveaway with trojans or virii of any type. Good Luck. Once you've installed the game, make a back up just in case the AV software deletes any files once you've turned the software back on. :)

@36: Try finding the config file. Type "%appdata%\ElementalsTheMagicKey\Profiles" into Explorer, and open settings.cfg with WordPad. The change "FullScreen" from "True" to "False". Remember to not type the quote marks.

General info: If you go one level up, you'll find a partial log file named "Game_Locations.BallteOfElement.log" that may help if you experience problems.

@8: You can try launching the game manually:
1. Open up the game's folder and copy "mono\ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll" to the "bin" folder.
2. Open up the Command Prompt (Press Windows-R and then type "cmd")
3. cd to the game's folder (type `cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Playrix Entertainment\Elementals - The Magic Key"')
4. Type "bin\Startup.bin GameLauncher assembly=Engine plugins=BattleOfElements repository=Data.pack resource=Locations.BallteOfElement engine=dx" and hit Enter
5. If you don't receive an exception message, that means the game will run and you can play it.

Another general info: If you'd like to switch the music, extract all the files with LuckySoftUnpack (see above), delete (or rename) the original Data.pack into something else, rename Data_decrypted.pack (a folder) into Data.pack, and go under the music folder and replace the .ogg files with your own music in .ogg format. Note that there are also some music under the sound folder.

Ahh, this game. Its game engine has the best 2D effects I've seen. It has been quite a while since I finished this game, so I can't offer much on how good the game is. All I remember is the dialogue sometimes changes too fast, the ending's sort of lame, and the game seems to be aimed at a younger audience while its board game can get challenging.

The version of the game given away here is version 1.2. Over at GameTop, they have version 1.3. So if you missed this one, or if you just want to have the latest version, check out WhiteRabbit's review above.

I've updated some modding tools for the game, the most useful one being LuckySoftUnpack. Get them here.

This is the only game that does not work properly. All the games I downloaded so far were fine. I just cannot get past the branch basket at chapter 2. I thought of buying the game, but do not dare to do so, because whenever I remove the game and download it and install it again, it starts where I left off in the removed game! It is rather frustrating that I will not be able to finish the game, especially because I really like the game so far and would like to enjoy it a bit longer. Anyway thanks for a wonderful game, even though it does not work for me.

This is the most graphically excellent game I have ever seen or played.
The graphics in some cases are almost miniture works of modern art, and really deserve better aclaim than being the back drop of a game.
It loads remarkably fast and is a credit to the programers.
I must admit I am not a lover of hiden object games, but this one realy had me captivated, I was nearly late for an appointment playing it. After a while you get drawn into each set and think you are actually there, as you seem to be totally imersed into this wonderful sureal world.
Thankyou to Playrix and to gamegiveawayoftheday for giving us the privilage of having this wonderful game for free
Best wishes for an Execelent Christmas and most Prosperous New Year

Why did you erase my first message is unknown. But my problem is: it is not working on my computer. Win 7 64 bit ultimate. I updated catalyst driver suite and tried to start with xp sp2 compability mode.
In normal mode nothing happens program terminates it self. Bu in compability mode it says "mono.dll misssing" even I copied the file to executables directory.

No one erased your first message. Try redownloading it. If you still get a problem try updating Direct X and Open GL. If you still have problems try downloading the free version from Gametop. I've linked to it in my review @ comment #1.

Sorry to say this game did not work on my computer with XP and SP3; I get messed up pictures, like the wrong video mode is selected. Downloaded it twice, same problem. I have got the newest drivers for my video card and this is a first that I´ve got troubles with playing a game. Compatibility modes do not work either.

Downloaded to XP & Win 7, both seem to be working fine. I will enjoy going through the game just to see all the great artwork! The games seem good too of course, although I must be having a dumb day because in a few spots it took some doing before I figured out what was wanted/needed. But Playrix usally has games I love so I imagine I'll be playing this one more.

Evening all, Snoozles here.

This is more than meets the eye. There are many "subgames" built in. I happen to like the battle subgames here, although I have not mastered them yet. It's nice that one can just play with the subgames. However, when quitting from a subgame, one must first "quit" then continue to the previous menu to click quit again. This should be a more direct way out. Perhaps I'll just close it from the tab (end the process), providing that doesn't crash something.

The overall concept does not interest me. I like futuristic scifi, not this dark ages rubbish (although it does seem to combine a bit of the outer space theme with the dark ages theme). But to each his own taste. The objects one must find are very esoteric, and I ended up having to press the "?" icon quite a lot. But then, along comes, a battle subgame (!!!).

This is definitely not for young kids, but well grounded teenagers will probably enjoy it.

Despite my opinion, the graphic quality is quite nice (although most objects are difficult to distinguish), and it's quite obvious that a lot of time went into developing it.

My Scoring:
Download and installation - 9
Registration process - 10
Graphic Appearance in Game – 7
Background and Colour - 8
Audio – 8
Game Play (main/subgame) – 2 / 9
Replay Ability (main/subgame) – 1 / 10
Originality (main/subgame) – 2 / 10

Total 8 out of 10
Thumbs UP

DEVELOPER IMPROVEMENTS for next edition:

Please include a button to quit the entire programme from the subgames area.

Thanks to WhiterabbitUK, GGOTD, posters to the forum and especially to LuckySoft and Playrix Entertainment. Once again, many thanks to Playrix Entertainment for your continued association with W.R. and GGOTD!! Cheers.

I played this game quite a while ago, but lost it. I'm very glad that GOTD is giving it away again as I think it is a most beautiful game to play. There is so much to look at during each scene that it bears playing more than once simply to fully appreciate the graphics. The only slight criticism I have of it is that it takes you by the hand just a little bit too much, with areas to explore sparkling and generous amounts of detailed hints. However, that's from someone who likes to puzzle out things even if it takes a long time (and sometimes even with recourse to a Walkthrough, lol). For anyone new to HOGs, and who likes chess or similar games, this would be a wonderful introduction.

I'm running into a problem with this download that I've run into with a lot of downloads...If I try to run on the built-in monitor on the laptop (Win7), I just get a black screen. With many, if I run on a port replicator (and maybe any external monitor), it works. What galls me is that these things are all running in a very low resolution...In these days of incredibly high-resolution monitors, why don't games DEFAULT to a windowed mode, instead of fullscreen?

I tried to copy the settings.ini file from 4 Elements (a while back) but that doesn't work.

This is a cool game, works fine on my 8 year old Gateway Laptop with an onboard chipset for graphics. I went to the official website and took this information:
OS: Windows XP
CPU: 800 mhz
RAM: 512 MB
DirectX: 9.0
Video: 64 MB

Nobody has built a PC this slow since Windows XP came out so if your PC is at least that old or newer then you should have no problem playing this. If you have a fairly new PC and problems playing then you have issues with your PC that need dire attention. This old laptop also plays all of the GTA series and Saints ROw just fine so again if your PC is newer than mine and having problems playing this game have it checked, your video card or ram chips might be bad (if overclocked then definately are failing)

A well put-together game, though as others have said it is a bit easy. So far I have collected half of the key elements and have only been playing for an hour. That said, as a $6.99 casual game (at typical places like Big Fish and Amazon) it isn't bad at all.

Suggestion: Allow for restarting of a puzzle or game instead of just having to choose to skip it. Make the battle games evenly matched, its just not fair when the opponent already has an advantage before the battle even begins. Also, it's frustrating when you're at a disadvantage in the battles & the game forces you to attack instead of moving.

Well worth a download and a purchase if needed.
