I posted comment #11. Your replied, "There is only a very small percentage of community members getting issues with this game, which would indicate a problem with the members computer and not the game. Maybe you have a program running in the background that interferes with the running of the game. Try turning off each background program to see if that fixes the issue. Better still, download the free Game booster that will turn off all unnecessary programs running in the background. It’s easy to use and can be switched back to normal running once you’ve finished playing the game.

Reading previous comments from the last three times this was given away, only a few people had this problem, one called Star-X said the following:

Since this reply several others complained that it wouldn't work. I did get it to work when I changed my screen resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1024 x 768. I use Game Booster Pro, I have 6GB of RAM and a 3.16GHz dual core processor. I tried closing browsers, my ram was at 40%. The only solution was changing the screen resolution. Most games written for older screen resolutions temporarily adjusts the computers automatically. This one doesn't.

I have been playing the Dark Spore beta with Firefox and Opera open at the same time. I also play many PC games that requires high ram and processor speeds. My drivers, graphics cards are all brand new and up-to-date.

The game definitively has some issues that are not the fault of our computers. It sounds like some with the same OS as mine can play it but some obviously have the same problem. It also seems like it works more for people w/ XP. Every game I have downloaded here (which is almost all of them in the last 8 to 10 months) works fine. There are some issues that the developer needs to work on.

Considering there has been so many posts after the giveaway has finished complaining of the late Email, the giveaway owners may consider giving it away again, though on average the game was downloaded by a large number of community members (10769 downloads), so the number who have posted complaining that the notification came late is very insignificant. (thats 0.149% or put it another way, for every person complaining that they got their email late 673 community members got to download the game). Still, you never know. :-)

The following is just conjecture, but it could be that your email provider was at fault and not the giveaway team. There seens no reason for them sending out email notifications after the event has closed????

i have been a long time member and emails have never been delayed 24 hours before! perhaps you should see about re-posting the game in the near future for those of us who missed it.

The email announcing this arrived in my mailbox at 2:30am on Sunday morning. So now I'm finding out it was Saturday's game it's not longer available from GGOTD, nor was it when the email arrived. Bummer.

What a bummer! My Game-Giveaway-of-the-Day email notice for this software was not delivered into my mailbox until Sat, March 19, 2011 11:30:33 PM. I was sleeping at the time and had less than a half hour to get the software for free. I wake this morning to see it finally here... but it's too late.

I've been a member for more than a year and this has NEVER happened before.

Oh, by the way. It arrived in my inbox at 12:30 am Eastern Daylight time. Too late to download if I needed it.
You are correct that we have had this problem repeatedly, but with the inconsistant offerings over the past year or so, I didn't even think to look when I didn't get a game notification yesterday.
I just wish there was a different way to get the notifications rather than from feedburner. They are maddening!

I have had this game since it was first given away in 2007, and still go back to play it from time to time. My only other complaint besides what Whiterabbit mentioned, is that when you complete a level within a temple, you lose your powerups that you were using during the level. I wish they would let you keep them instead of starting each new level with a basic shooter, especially in the later and more difficult levels.

Hmmm strange, just checked the number of downloads 15 hours after the close and t6he number has increased to 10769, which is 215 more than when the giveaway ended????

All giveaways last for 24 hours from the time they are put up on the site. without fail games are always posted aat 12 midnight Pacific time (8a.m. GMT) and end the following midnight. Emails have never been sent exactly at the point the game giveaway starts. Regulars will know this and ignore the email. We've had this problem time and time again. I've never known the Email notification to arrive on time. U*nless you are a new user this should have become apparent over the months/years that you've been a community member.

All giveaways last for 24 hours from the time they are put up on the site. i just downloaded this game before the time frame 11: 57pm but the i had to type the darn path when i looked it just said C ShXX:I had install and activate the software.
like it said but no path only had C by default so - C:\Games\Egyptoid) had to type now normally if i down load a program from GAOTD it installed &aCTIVATES and it doen loAds to the correct spot.This program finoshed right before 12;00am i was waiting for the program to open i did get the screen that i did it but i did not send the close button when i did it said The program useally opens but it did not so i sent the box you get after you have completted all the steps befor the timeframeand the program has open it also lets you add GAOTD to U"R E and other spots to check off if you have noy dont so already when i sent that 1 min after 12;01 it told me idid not get it for it to tell me i did not this is a 6 mo old HP Laptop time is on time 1st game in many many years i was getting

It's always very risky downloading and activating software so close to the deadline. sometimes it takes a minute or two to download, then install before activation occurs. I'm sorry you missed this little gem. It's an okay game. Alls not lost though. you can get this game or one very similar for free 24/7 rom Gametop and possibly MyPlayCity. I've linked to Gametop in my short review @ comment #1 above. you can go to Gametop via the following link then look for the breakout button somewere on the front page. there's an excellent selection of breakouts/arkanoids available to download for free. During installation, some of the games will try to install toolbars and/or change your home page. all you have to do is uncheck the boxes and you'll get a clean game with no malware. all games from both download sites do open your browser at their home page when you close your game down, but this is totally innocuous. no extra software is installed to your computer, so you effectively have a full version game, activated and ready to play. There's no in game advertising.

Installed and plays fine on Vista 32.
I'm terrible at this type of game but decided to get it because it's free :) and there are 3 settings of difficulty.
Thank you Stars Ashes for the Easy setting. I'll keep playing it because the easy difficulty setting makes it fun and not frustrating.

addendum to my previous post- after re-reading all the other comments, tried closing firefox, sent short-cut to desktop instead of trying to play straight from the file. worked like a charm, go figure. like i said, i know my skill level with computers is not up to par with a lot of you others out there LOL. game as great as i remembered, now wish i had downloaded sawoid since it is supposed to be similiar. oh well.

loved older version of egyptoid on my netbook, but this newer version not working on my laptop, win 7. all sound data coming up as "bad" files. suspect it is some setting on my computer, or some update i need but get errors, black screen and failure to launch. any suggestions???
BTW I love GAWOTD for all you provide, have lots of the programs and games over the years, repeats always appreciated for those computer crashes or forgetting to download great giveaways. i don't usually comment because feel my skill level not up to par to give useful feedback. thanks!

I like the game. Installed with no problems on XP. It was one of the easiest installation so far. The game itself is engaging. I have never played this kind before. Same like # 17 I think too many objects are released at times and also I would like to be able to save it and continue with it later on.

Installed with no problems on WinXP SP3. I had this a long time ago and played it a bit. It's fun but at the time I was getting SO many games back when Giveaway of the DaY really WAS Giveaway of the Day, I would play a game for a bit then go on to the newest one. I think this one lost out to to Hyperballoid.

However, lost a few of my games with a format and this was one of them. Thanks, Stars Ashes and That Wrascally Wabbit for his review.

Oh, and I was playing with My FireFox 4 RC w/ about 30 add ons.

No probs with installation on XP.

Overall, I like it, but I find it maddening, too. I'm having trouble recognizing some of the power-ups in the short time it takes them to get to my bat. Also, I keep losing lives when it looks on the screen like the ball is going right through the bat. But I did finally make it to the second temple. I like the "magical powers". And the game is fairly generous with extra lives.

Ok Win 7 32x Ultimate. Plays clean & easy. Just tried first level and maybe mouse control of bat is a little iffy-dicy but could be me on Normal setting. No option to adjust mouse so I'll work on adapting. Seems a touch laggy or something but not a deal breaker.
Fun concept to have to get keys & other goodies for extras. Nice graphics. Have played several of these Egyptian Arcanoid styles and this one does feel fresh for me. Bunch of nice levels ahead. Gotta keep those 3 lives alive! Thanks guys.

I have this game from when it was given away before. Lot of fun if you like Arkanoid style games!! I played it alot, going all the way through several times just to keep from being bored. If you got the recent giveaway called "Sawoid". It is made by the same company, and the engine is the same. I give this game a 9.5 out of a 10! And I am picky with ratings! Oh, and my wife played it alot for a while. Like anything else, it gets old after a while. Actually the fun playability of the game was a long time tho! Hope this helps someone decide on what to do. :-)

Thanks a million, had forgotten this one as was not backed up when I changed my previous computer and laptop.Use to play this a lot when it first was given away along with Jardinains and Jardinains 2!, similar gameplay and just as addictive also free downloads to 50 levels. Highly recommended if you enjoy these type of games

Also had problems running the game - however when I shut down Firefox it ran perfectly.

Tried restarting Firefox and it would not run until I closed Firefox again, so Firefox and Egyptoid don't mix!

Worth a try for those having problems.

I am running windows 7 (64bit)home prem & the problem that I got was that the install went fine. When I tried to play the game it went to a black screen, then it disappeared alltogether. When I moused over the Icon on the task bar it showed a smallbox in the center of a larger window, but if i click on it the screen goes to black & dissapears again. Is this a problem just with 64bit machines?

I've had it working on Win 7 Ultimate and Pro 64 bit and a Vista Home Premium 64 bit, so I don't think it's that. It's more likely to either be a conflict with other software or you need newer graphics drivers. check over the comments from previous giveaways, which I've linked to in the review @ comment #1.

Try using Game Booster which is free (just Google it for the download link). It will turn off all background program that are not necessary to run the computer. It's also configurable so you can get it to turn off all those giveaways you may have running in the background (that's assuming you've downloaded any of them). :lol:

I downloaded this from GGAOTD before - it is Version 1.101 with a 2006 copyright date. Is this the same version or an updated one?

Nice game! (It installed fine under Window 7 Home Premium 64 bit.)

I agree it would be nice if you could save part way through the temples, but I very much appreciate it has an 'easy' level of difficulty that is genuinely easy. Both for the sake of my somewhat slowed reaction time (getting old sucks)and for when my great-grandkids visits.

Works fine with XP, SP3, loaded without any problems. Quite similar in gameplay to Sawoid which was released a few weeks ago, but I prefer this game as it uses a convential ball instead of a circular saw object that you have to keep hitting with your bat. Only played a few levels so far, but it's a game that's easy on the eye, doesn't involve mass destruction of anything other than inanimate objects. Worth keeping to while away an hour (or so) on a dismal afternoon. Only negative point from my perspective is like Sawoid, too many objects are released when items are hit - it would be much better if this was reduced by at least half. Still, a nice enough game, thanks for this one.

Same problem as #6. Stops at startup in win 7 home premium 64 bit. it says it has a problem for running the ogg files.

No problem on XP however

Try updating the audio drivers on your win 7 platform. If that doesn't work you could possibly try removing the ogg files one at a time to see if you can figure whether it's a specific ogg file. you'll find them located via the following path assuming you allowed the game to install to the default position:

C > games > Egyptoid > data > sound

If it does turn out to be a specific ogg file you could either download the demo and remove the same ogg file and see if that works or replace the ogg file with another sound file. there are sites on the net that give sound bites away for free. you can easily convert sound files to ogg using one of the free audio converters available from the freeware section of the giveaway site:

Fun game. I remember playing this one when it was offered a while ago but have since reinstalled my OS. Thanks Stars Ashes and GOTD.
Runs fine on XP Pro SP3.

Looks like a nice game from the screenshots. Interested to see if gameplay adds up - but when I click setup I get the message 'Failed to connect - Try again later' ... any suggestions?

there's usually two ways to fix that problem:

1)...Reboot your modem and/or router
2)...Delete the game giveaway cookies from your internet temp folder (it sometimes becomes corrupted thus preventing connection issues when trying to download)

I use Windows 7 x64 and I have the same problem as #3,
"black screen. I could hear the music play though."

It automatically changes my screen resolution.
I have to control+alt+delete to stop the game's black screen. Task Manager says that the game is not responding.

Although some are able to play, it's apparent by all of comments that there is an issue with this game.

Changing screen resolution scatters desktop icons so that fix is out of the question. I hope the developer has an easier fix for us.

There is only a very small percentage of community members getting issues with this game, which would indicate a problem with the members computer and not th game. Maybe you have a program running in the background that interferes with the running of the game. Try turning off each background program to see if that fixes the issue. Better still, download the free Game booster that will turn off all unecessary programs running in the background. It's easy to use and can be switched back to normal running once you've finished playing the game.

Reading previous comments from the last three times this was given away, only a few people had this problem, one called Star-X said the following:

"*Note* Game doesn’t like certain anti-viruses and will freeze in fullscreen. Disable your anti-virus when running this game".

Star-X went on to say in another post that it may be his memory optimization program and a few other users found that turning off firefox worked.
