scratch my last review...on playing the game, i discovered that once you get to level 5, all that coolness falls apart and it gets sluggish and unresponsive to the point of unplayability.
i liked the first 4 levels, but my rating just slid from 5 thumbs up to 1 because of this.
i see it with a lot of games, unfortunately.
it acts almost like the last level was written with a different screen resolution than the first couple..
i had to set mine 800x600 @ 32 bit re, light off, full screen to get it to play right....
and it did, right up to that 5th level.
bummer!
thanks tho GAOTD...
i still love ya'll....
lol

have it told ya lately GAOTD that i love you?
cuz i DO.
LOL.
would have been back sooner, but i got addicted to this game yeterday and played it for an obsessively long time.
some aspects were kinda cheesy....like the "you mission is failed" message at the end, but once i got the graphics dialed in rigth, it runs great, and looks cool, and has some really nice features and stuff... i love the ghosts, for instance.
damn....now hyperballoid ain;t anywhere near as cool...
LOL
i'd give this one 5 thumbs from the pinkster!

This game was actually fun once I figured it out. My housemates heard all the noise and all asked what I was doing in my room. I've gotten pretty far and am glad I downloaded this. Thanks for the game!
Please consider offering a hidden object game, they're my favorite.

#34, I use a mouse on my laptop for these types of games; easier than using the touchpad.

I like this genre of games, though not every one of the games, themselves. My favorite one is Gem Ball - Ancient Legends. With Egyptoid2, I find the ball moves a bit too fast for my liking, but even worse, I notice the bat drifts over to the left of its on accord; very annoying.

works well on windows 2000. this game plays abit faster than the first egyptoid. the controls are smoother. the ball still goes through the bat/pusher but works well other than that.

Tkelly46, when's the last time you updated your video card drivers? Having DX9 isn't going to be enough. A three year old computer should be able to handle anything that's been offered here, assuming that the system requirements listed are fairly accurate. But as these comments show, some people may regularly encounter problems, while others can play through the game without any errors. Being on Windows XP Pro could be a factor. Some people seem to have more problems with certain programs and games in XP pro than on XP Home or another OS, with only Vista providing more inconsistent results.

DonP, the Ankh gives you a free life. The game's fairly generous with those.

I didn't find any real advantage to most of the spells (the ones you need to collect three of to use), only where to hold the Egyptoid (your 'bat') to maximize the destruction. The different balls are helpful as are a couple of the add-ons, especially the magnet.

And like others have said, it would be better if there were more levels - and a bit more variety. In later levels, you do have to think a little more about getting the ball to where it can do some damage, but there's no great depth to the game, which it doesn't really need. I didn't get through the game in one sitting, but I could have if I wanted to. Longer and more variety would've made it better.

Only issue I had was sometimes the ball would be shot behind the Egyptoid instead of forwards if it landed near either end when I had the magnet. But all the free lives I had built up meant my game was far from over.

My thoughts exactly. I was going to review it, but there really isn't anything worth talking about in this game. The only really good things about are the pretty graphics and theme, and the worst complaints that I have are the weird game over screens and glitchy interface - neither of which are anything remarkable. I could sum up my potential review in two sentences:

This is a fairly decent 3D Breakout clone with nice graphics and obstinate menu buttons. Overall, it's a pretty pointless game that will only appeal to people who collect clones(gpc111, in this case).

I know that this comment is really late, but I was literally out of the house all day.

A little confusing - no description of bonuses during game (what does that ankh mean again?) so you have to exit the game & look at the help screen repeatedly until you get to know all the bonuses & power-ups. One level got extremely boring and repetitive. I don't think I'll be saving this one. (but the messages are unintentionally funny - "You are not carry on..." for example...

A fast game, though, and there are a lot of good things to be said about it. But I much prefer several of the games from ALAWAR that I've gotten from GGOTD (it works, by the way - I had to spend $20 for one of those games that my wife got hooked on after the giveaway period expired).

#24 - David - If the mouse response is doggy, put it in full screen mode. I noticed the same thing. It was smooth and fairly nice response in full screen mode but as soon as I windowed, it lagged and was impossible to catch anything. I paused the game to change back to full and it works fine!

I'm running Vista Ultimate if that makes any difference. I have no problem with the sound. I do not have any music playing but the sound effects for the various objects work fine.

What are the "treasures" supposed to do. I keep catching the purple/pink & white balls but they don't seem to do any thing. They don't even give you points!

I have installed this game but it will not run on my computer, I get errors that Directx did not initialize and other files did not initilize, so I uninstalled the game, I havent been able to run many of the games offered by GAOTD, my computer is three years old and when I purchased it the manufacturer sead it would run all modern games and programs but it no longer does, you just can't keep up with todays technology, computer become obsolete in just a few years. I hope GAOTD will run some games that will work on the older computers but thanks anyway GAOTD.

I am running windows xp pro with the latest version of direct x installed but with no luck.

I found an error in the game.
I got to the second level ( second set of temples) or what ever they call it. There is a roll over that sends the ball to another area of the screen. well the ball rolled to a second roll over and it got caught in a loop and just kept coming out of one section and into the other. The only thing I could do was stop the game and restart it. Other than that its a good breakout game.

This is a great game, but I may be baised b/c I always love breakout-style games, and I always look forward to new takes on them. The only problem for me is it's kind of difficult to play on my laptop b/c the paddle is slow to respond to my touchpad, but I don't know if that's the laptop or the game's fault.

Anyway, great job on an awesome game! I think you could charge about $10-15 for it for the best turnout. Keep up the good work.

WHILE IT'S A COOL GAME, THERE IS DEFINATLY NOT ENOUGH LEVELS. I COMPLETED ALL LEVELS WITHIN A FEW HOURS, IF THAT. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT IT DOESN'T LET YOU INSERT YOUR OWN NAME AS THE WINNER. MAYBE I MISSED THAT WHEN THE GAME WAS OVER; NOT SURE. WITHOUT A FULLER SCALE LEVEL BASE, I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A TRIAL VERSION OF A DOWNLOAD. BECAUSE OF THIS, I WOULDN'T IN ANY MEANS PAY CASH FOR IT.

This game wasn't too bad. I actually think I like the first one a little better. I found that the ball and weapons do not respond to a single mouse click. It usually takes 2 or 3 clicks for them to respond. That is frustrating. Also, when you originally start the game and try to establish a profile, it can be a bit confusing. There again, it takes more than one click to get the buttons to respond. I think the first version was more polished than this one, although I do like the fact that you can keep the bat you ended the level with.

Overall, not a bad game, but I don't know that I will be as eager to beat it as I am with many other games I've gotten here. Thanks, Realore and GGOTD. Have a great weekend!

Good game. I find that the mouse speed is a little slow and there is no way to correct for this in the settings. With this and other high graphics breakout games I find that the mouse freezes briefly now and then. For this reason, I doubt I would ever pay for one.

It's been a while since I've played a Breakout/Arkanoid clone, so I decided to give this one a shot. So far, so good.

The graphics are nice; nothing too fancy, nothing too 'primitive'. The sound is decent and I like the songs I've heard so far. Even though you don't get to keep the ball type as you move to the next level, powerups that your Egyptoid has will stick around until they expire, which is nice. The different strengths of the various bricks in nothing new, but having enemies (the aforementioned mummies) and teleporters adds a bit to the break stuff routine - plus whatever else I haven't gotten to see yet.

Being able to change resolutions is a nice feature, though I haven't bothered to see how the game looks under all of them. The underwhelming English translation has already been mentioned, so I won't drag the dead horse out again for that.

That said, a pretty good offering. Not the best I've had from here, but far, FAR from the worst. As for how it rates among the Breakout and/or Arkanoid clones (I do think there's anough difference to mention them both), I really can't say. I've never really been a huge fan of them, but I do like the games. If you're a fan of these kinds of games, I'm sure you can name a few better ones (see Whiterabbit's post, for example). But if you haven't played one of these since the originals, I would think this a decent return to the genre.

Verdict: A Keeper.

My mistake; I meant to say Egyptoid 2 was similarly challenging to the Magic Ball series in my comment above. I have a houseful of kids hassling me to use the study, so I couldn't concentrate on the above review because of all the noise they were making. :( Saturday mornings are always manic once Emily returns from Ballet.

Just merely okay for a breakout type of game, has some issues with balls getting stuck sometimes behind invincible blocks. Not enough variety with the enemies that walk around but despite that it's still fun enough to play.

Installation

Once downloaded the zip file unzips to two files, the read me and the combined set up and activation modules. If you are new to the giveaway project I suggest you read the read me otherwise just set up the game as normal.

Introduction:

I’m going to skip most of the usual stuff to make sure I catch the moderators few moderations on a weekend. There are 17 bonuses, including the lightning cannon and the mega magic cannon, these two are the only additions from the first version of the game. Other bonuses that are also found in the original, but are slightly different from your normal Arkanoid are the three different levels of ball destruction from high, maximum and absolute. As with the first game there are also special symbols to collect. Collecting three of the same will give you magic spells that range from ‘the glance of Horus, Breath of Atum, Lightning of Hathor, Fire of Ra, Curse of Atem, Fireball of Oseris, and the ‘Pitch of Darkness’ making a total of seven spells, that when added to the bonuses makes a total of 24 bonuses. The spells will be expended as soon as you collect the three symbols. So ensure your bat is in a suitable position to take advantage of the spells power. That is if your bat just so happens to be under an area of very few bricks you will not make the most of the spell. The spells are basically the same as those you got in the original Egyptoid apart from that the developers have changed the names around a little, for example the Fire of Ra becomes the Flame of Ra (and there’s a Fire of Aten,) and the Pitch of Darkness was known as Outer Darkness. Also the graphics are better. To boost your score there are lots of gems to collect.

Follow the link for some Googled images:

http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=Egyptoid+2&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

Conclusion:

In my opinion this version is better than the first one in the series, but if you were not in the enviable position of getting it free today and had the choice of buying either one, I’d definitely buy Egyptoid 2.

I didn’t know this had been released as I’ve not been searching for new games of late, so today’s giveaway came as a pleasant surprise. If and when I lose this to a format, I would certainly consider buying it though I’ve already bought the first one so for two power ups this would seem a little crazy. . With respect to playability, I found that I had to set it on the most difficult setting to make the game even slightly challenging. As it suffers the same as many 3D arkanoids in that the ball does seem to travel incredibly slow. This would be an ideal game for those who are new to this genre as well as younger children. If you like 3D arkanoids and want more of a challenge I would suggest the following for starters. The first one has been amongst my favorites for a few years and the second one I’ve only just got but can say it’s living up to expectations so far.
.
Suggestions:

Incrediball:The Seven Sapphires and the newly released Action Ball 2 which I bought last night and wasn’t disappointed. (I’d been waiting for a new release of Action Ball since before the game giveaway started) If you buy it before the 26th December you get 30% off. As 3D arkanoids go Egyptoid is reasonably challenging when you compare it to the likes of the Magic Ball series (all three of them) which are very easy by comparison. Nuclear Ball 1 and 2 are also much more challenging than this game as is Gem ball, which has some remarkable likenesses to todays game including its Egyptian theme:

*** there is a problem with gameplay-> if the ball gets stuck 'goin from rafe to rafe or portal to portal and it seems stuck-> hit the "ALT key" on your keyboard twice, and it will reset it.

I finished all the levels in about 2 hours. Score was about "1520???", with about 70 lives left playing on the normal level.

Over all i dont really like these types of games, but this one-> i found addicting-> and the other one from a couple nights ago was pretty cool also.

Pros- really nice Ultra High resolutions at 32 bit using textures. smotth game play. lottsa bonuses, and magic xtras {that you need to collect 3 to activate}. All of the magic pieces and normal Power Ups carry on to the next level. Gotta love that black ball. Over all pretty dang cool-> finished it first time through: meaning it actually had my attention.

cons- the ball type doesnt carry though to the next level. "the game play glitched up 2 times, and i had to hit "ALT key twice" people not knowing how to fix this might get dicouraged quick. I really like all the magic weopons, but maybe it makes it to easy at times, and its hard to even see whats goin on in the game when everythings blowin up 'activating even more stuff'

I found this game a real challenge. It needs more levels thou.

The description given above was funny because it seemed to have to much imagination envolved in an arkinoid game. Actually, gameplay does lean on more then just arkinoid- pretty cool-> but could use some cimina throughout the game between levels or somethin. for the imagination. this game also has an easy level, and a harder level of gameplay that i didnt try.

thanks guys

Always nice to see a Realore Studios giveaway - their previous "Age of Japan" game is one of my all-time favorites. This one falls a bit short of AoJ in my mind, but is still worth downloading.

First off, runs fine on Vista - yay! So many of the games here either won't run at all or don't seem to work quite right on Microsoft's latest OS.

Graphics are just a tad cheesy, but I like the video options. You can set the game to run anywhere from 640x480 16-bit to 1600x1200 32-bit, which is kinda nice. Runs fine in a window, but (at least on my system) the window is stuck in the upper left corner of the screen and can't be moved around on the desktop - there's no title bar to click and drag. Given that, you might as well just run it full-screen.

Gameplay is fairly smooth, although there seems to be a very slight lag when you grab a falling object that's a bit annoying. I really like the transition effect used to move between levels.

All in all, a fine freebie and well worth the download, although I don't know that I'd be willing to buy this one. I'm planning on buying the previously-mentioned Age of Japan game so I can put it on my new laptop.

If you like brick breaking games, you need to download this one. It is better than all of the others that have been offered here. Downloaded and setup, no problem. The game is fun and challenging. I think that they could make easier to understand symbols on the falling blocks as an improvement. I especially like how you start the new level with the improvements from the previous level, for example if you get a gun at the end of one level you will still have it when you start the next level.

I give this game 9/10, only because the symbols are a bit confusing.

Not a bad Arkanoid clone, works ok on Vista. Some strange english dotted about in the menus and game over screens etc. Graphics ok, nice slide betweeen levels, music pleasant.

Might be a keeper.

Thanks GGOTD.
