Thank you so much for the 'checkers' game. The download and setup took a little time = wish a desktop shortcut came with these games = but plays great on my Windows XP. I have played a few games and still haven't won! This game will be a keeper for me. Thank you very much.

Well, I'm finally back from vacation. I won't be reviewing today's giveway, though, for the simple reason that I have no idea how I would be able to. How can I review checkers?

I will give this one a thumbs up but it is not my favorite checkers game. I have Hoyle Checkers that I bought a few years ago that I like. The Fly Games version is alright but I didn't last to long. Maybe the Hoyle version is just easier but I couldn't win a game on this one (after only 3 or 4 tries), I just got wiped out in a hurry. My ego tells me to keep trying until I win so I will keep it for a while. Maybe I can play with the settings enough to make it more enjoyable. :?: ;)

At 5 bucks it sounds a bargain anyway, I almost feel guilty for getting this for nothing.

I just hope this has alternate rules, I really hate the way most have only one set standard (Usually the American rulesets)

Loaded and installed fine - the rules of the various modes of play are clearly written out but not so obvious to find. Its the one of the lower left menu selections.

Oh, and in intermediate level I quickly realized just how bad I am at checkers ....

Now all we need is a nice clean (and easy) GO simulator (hint hint) :)

#28 Debbie....it starts out in Russian mode which allows the "cheats". Go to options and change it to English then it won't do that.

Wow. Checkers is more fun and difficult than I thought. Guess I had forgotten the true rules since I was a kid. A fantastic game layout - all accessible on one page which opens and closes immediately without asking if you really mean it four times. The three different games make it interesting - I was unfamiliar with the other two and they are nicely explained. Good one Game Giveaway of the Day, and thanks Fly Games for this classy throwback.

INSTALL TO MY GAMES: The game CAN be installed someplace other than (C:) on installation if you take the time to click BROWSE and open "(C:)" to chose where you wish it to install (for instance "My Games") before completing the install process by clicking "NEXT". Just remember where you put it.

DESKTOP ICON : The READ ME file clearly states there is no desktop icon. (Does anybody else read them but me?) I created one with no problem by going to the game and right clicking and choosing "Send to Desktop". It's a Checker.

HELPFUL INFO : The game folders do not fragment as some do if you put it in a place other than (C:)

I just can't believe I have to wait 24 straight hours for Checkers to vacate the game download of the day spot! On that note let's hope something awesome is in store for tomorrow!

Fast d/l and install. I had no trouble getting it to install where I wanted or creating a desktop icon, odd thing though, I got the "game activated" page before I even installed the game. Very simple game, maybe good for someone trying to learn checkers but I just don't see myself playing it when I have so many other games that are fun. It's not even pleasing to look at, you'd think they could have dresed it up a bit. I'd give it maybe a 7 for someone wanting to learn the game but otherwise only about a 1.

Downloaded, installed and played with no problems whatsoever. It did a couple of things that I hadn't expected once it had reached my end with a piece, so I guess I need to read the rules now. To Whiterabbit: I routinely look for your reviews and read them first each day and truely appreciate the time and effort you take to put them together. Okay, it's free, but it still sucks. The game wants to install into your C: drive and when you're playing it you don't see the opponent's piece move so you're left wondering what's going on. After the setting up of the game there's still no music. It's crap.

I had to download this game twice. When I tried to extract the zip, I got a corrupted file message from Windows. I downloaded it again and it worked fine. It is one of the simplest installs ever in that it is only one file extracted. I tested it first and THEN made the shortcut.

The odd part was making my zipped backup that I always do with these games. This game came as a self-extracting rar file. It will NOT zip. This little file gives error messages of characters that won't zip. I was able to compress it into a .7z format using 7-Zip.

I wonder what is in it that won't compress. I have never had an executable file do that before in over 20 years!

I gave it a thumbs up because it's a nice little game even if I can't even beat the computer at easy!

I have this problem where I forget how to play checkers...

Lots of years of Chess had totally wiped out what I knew about checkers. It seemed nobody I knew played it and I never got a chance.. this gives me the chance, and a great chance it is.

This is a great little game. Works wonderfully well on Vista. Its simple, clean and has some nice features. The download is so small that I literally blinked and it was here. The installation took the same amount of time.

Basically its Checkers..nothing really fancy. There are a few things that are really nice. The thing I like best is you can link to your mp3 file for game music. Thats not really a big deal since you can always just play that anyway, but its a nice little perk. It also has Russian Checkers.. which I haven't tried yet, but I THINK doesn't force you to jump. I guess I'll see.

Bottom line is its really nice. Thanks again GGOTD. This is a game everyone can enjoy on some level. Flygames has been pretty good to us.

Please try to check out #8, WhiteRabbit's link. The guy forgot more about games than I ever knew.. and I knew a lot.

Incidentally, Stephen (Whiterabbit) I want to wish you all the best with this operation. You're a great asset to this site and seem like just a nice guy. Strange rules on this one - it allows backwards moves and taking before you've reached the opponent's back spaces. Maybe I'm out of touch, but I've never played that! Also, as Whiterabbit says (8) it forces a take, which is slightly annoying as it limits the strategy. Otherwise it works well and installed fine

Nice game! Simple and straightforward. And looks like the install only gives me a single .exe file.

Very fast extraction.

Remember: this isn't a installation, it is an extraction, therefore it will not create a shortcut.

If you open the folder you put it in, you will see only one file. Once you open it, it simply just starts. No main menu, just start playing. You can play with a friend or play against the computer.

Although it is fun, it reminds me how badly I play these kinds of strategy games.

When the installer offered me where to install the game I just changed it from C drive to desktop and I have the icon on my desktop and the game starts from there no problems.

Seems to work ok.

This certainly makes up for the racecar game that crashed for almost everybody from yesterday. I think this set the new record for fastest GGOTD download and easiest installation.
I went into the games>checkers folder, right clicked on the exe icon (the only thing in there) and made a shortcut, dragged it to my desktop and then into the "games" folder on my desktop, and that worked for me.
The game is simple, clean, easy to grasp, easy to play. and boy do I suck at it. Oh well, my dad wore out a half dozen Atari 2600 joysticks playing video checkers back in the day, so I guess I'll get the hang of it eventually. Thanx to GGOTD I now have nice free checkers and chess games. Any chance of an Othello game in the future? I've gone through a half dozen freeware versions and still haven't found one I liked.

Installation:

As usual with Fly games there’s no start or desktop shortcut created. The default install position is to C:/games, though I personally found I was unable to create a shortcut as whenever I right clicked on the only file in the folder the computer froze. The actual installation was a breeze.




Game and Conclusion:


Today’s game is a simple game of Checkers. I was quite pleased to see this here. There are three variations of the game to choose from, English, Russian and Giveaway. There’s no explanation as to the differences between the three. It doesn’t play the rules that I play by; that is, not having to take a piece if the opportunity arose. In this version of the game you have to make a move if the opponent places a piece in a position where it can be taken. There’s no way around it as far as I was able to ascertain. Which in my opinion is a downer on this game, and for that reason I can only score this a 5 out of 10. There is a facility to reverse your last move if you wish and you can select from three difficulty settings.

I wasn’t given a heads up on this game (as the Admins did say they wouldn’t be able to every day, so there wont be a full review as I normally carry out. As I said a couple of weeks ago I no longer enjoy writing these reviews when there is so little time to do it in (due to my feelings that the review should be posted as early as possible simply because of the nature of the project). Everything went okay, though I didsn’t get what I really wanted because apparently I was deemed unsuitable for the less invasive spinal cord stimulator. :(, so it looks like out and out surgery, or debilitating pain for the rest of my life.

This kind of game hasn't been yet an offer. Great. It's playing good. But there are many free checkers games on a 8x8 board. So I hope there wille be someday an offer of a 10x10 checkergame. So in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 9 points.

WOW, small yet good...
This is truly one of the best games i have seen here within the past month...its good for dial ups, has great fun, and also helps in awakening our brain cells.

The interface is very fluid and attractive...i would say this is a game worth paying for.

Finally, a game I can run on my machine and it's a checkers game lol. Well thumbs up just for being a vista compatible game. Thanks for the effort GGOTD!
