didnt get anything moving (including timer) in w7 64b, even in compatibility mode.
......................Moderator comment....................
You have to place an arrow across the path of one of the Dweebs to get it top move from its initial position. I. don't think the timer starts until you place your first arrow.

I hope today's game has a relaxed untimed mode. I really hate timer games because the timer is stressful and ruins the fun.

Thanks, GOTD, and whiterabbit, for all of your work, especially the info about other free game sites, etc. I won't be downloading today's game--it just doesn't look very interesting for the time it would take to figure it out. I LOVED last week's Atlantis game, BTW, except for those horribly impossible Carthage higher levels. Just wanted to say keep up the good work.

Thank you blueboomerang. Just make sure you uncheck any checkboxes. Otherwise you'll end up with unecessary toolbars and possible home page changes as well as search engine changes.

I really like the idea of this game as I like working out this sort of puzzle but it's far too clunky to work so it's not for me and I uninstalled it.

Another screen capture suggestion for Whiterabbit: launch the Snipping Tool before starting the game and Esc to cancel the capture, leaving the tool running. Then Ctrl-PrtScrn will activate the Snipping Tool. Of course Alt-PrtScrn does a full screen capture to clipboard as always.
Wanted to add that I really appreciate all the effort you put in to reviewing - especially the screen shots. I find it immensely helpful when trying to decide whether I want to download or not. Thanks!

not my type of game so not d/ling but appreciate the offers as always, hey Whiterabbit, love your informative reviews noticed you had link to this page http://freegames.allgameshome.com/en/search/?query=dweebs in your problem section so followed as I had never ran across site before had a quick look at the site's about page it's apparently part of myplaycity inc. and actually lists a physical address in Alexandria, VA. not just p.o. box. I haven't tried out any of their games yet but added site to my game bookmarks for future reference. thanks

As I mention above, it may be useful to see if they have adopted exactly the same practices as the maion MPC site with respect to toolbars and home page changes etc. MPC have been for some time now bringing up the checkboxes every time you boot the games up. (probably in the hope you'd forget to uncheck the boxes). I've stopped downloading from them as I don't like the repeated attempts at trying to get us to install their toolbars etc.

I love puzzle games so I really like this game but I'm very disappointed that it doesn't have an option to play without the timer. I like figuring out puzzles but I like doing it in my own time - I don't like feeling rushed.
I like the old style graphics and I even like the music. :)
If the developer would just add an option to play either with OR without the timer I'd be very willing to pay for this game! :D
Since I can't play it the way I want to (without the timer) then it's usless to me because my reflexes just aren't what they used to be when I was younger. There's no point in playing a game if you can never win - that's no fun at all.
I'll be watching for a version that gives an option to play without the timer. :)

If you like this you'll also like Sheep. A similar game, but with a better graphic, more levels and more variety.

This game was ultimately popular when Real Networks launched their RealArcade gaming service and had some positive feedback when it was launched as it was an original launch title. This game is very old by today's standards but its a challenging game that will take you awhile to figure out its objective. Some newer computers may experience a washed out color pallet, but its due to the way Windows Vista and newer handles games with a lower color pallet then 16 bit. As far as the screensize goes, When I tried this on my Windows 7 Home Premium Netbook (connected to a 20" Wide Screen Monitor, just bought the anytime upgrade) the screen was simply too small for me to see on the screen. I set the game to Windows 95 compatibility mode and run this game for 256 Colors and 640x480 and it crashed a few things into my system tray.
Unless you own a Windows XP or older machine you may have a hard time running this program as its not designed for newer computers.

Whiterabbit 'I’ve just done a quick check and it looks like it is a genuine free games site, but as i’ve never come across it before, it may still be a copy cat site taking advantage of other free games sites ability to get licences from the developers"
If you go the about link on their site it says they are My Play City.
...........................Modewrator comment............................
I suspected they were MyPlaCity. Maybe this site is specific to Turkey. The site information and the way its laid out is virtually the same as MPC. Would be useful to know if they adopt exactly the same practices as MPC are quite aggressive at the moment.

not my game, won't be downloading.
Rabbit..about the snipping tool, make sure you have it running when you boot up your full screen game
With the Snipping Tool program open, instead of clicking "New," you can use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Prnt Scrn).
The cross hairs will appear instead of the cursor. You can click, drag/draw, and release to capture your image. (laptops might need the combination FN+CTRL+PRNT SCRN)

Not my sort of game. However... whiterabbit, in the interests of getting screen-capturing again, have you tried ScreenshotCaptor? www.donationcoder.com is the source, free/donationware, and despite the usual suggestion that anything free is worth what you paid for it, SSC is best in class stuff.

Thanks for the link Tim. I'll try this screen capture as well. I've used Capture Wiz Pro for a long time and really like it, but, until I find the key, it's frozen as I've used up the free trial period. I can't remember which email I bought it via. I suspect it's an old freeserve email that was suddenly stopped some years ago, (they wiped out thousands with no warning).

There is nothing i like about this game. Finally i got the understandings of how to get it to work, when i found the next level was the beginning again. Why not let you start at the next level instead of having to go back to level 1 AGAIN??? Deleted, not for me, too frustrating. Who wants to have to keep going back to the level you already completed again and again. This game should be that once you complete one level you then start off on to the next one.
A BIG Thumbs Down from me.....I also hate timers on games.
..............................Moderator Comment..........................
Hello Russ, thank you for your feedback. They should have included both a timed and an untimed mode. As for having to repeat levels over and over, that would just be frustrating. However, if you make a note of the code that's presented at the end of the level, that will give you access to the whatever level you'd finished at. This was a common way of saving levels 10-15 years ago.

If you're wearing a T-Shirt with an 8-bit graphic [e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Avengers-Marvel-Comics-Mighty-T-Shirt/dp/B009UZN2DS ] Dweebs may be a bit modern for your taste, but for everyone else it's Retro, which nowadays is cool. :)
Problems running the game **may** be due to varying degrees of DirectX 8 support with current graphics hardware. The game's readme.txt dates Dweebs to 2002, so I'd imagine it's quite possible it wasn't written or updated to work 100% with the much more common DX 9, so the game may be looking for something that *some* current graphics hardware just doesn't offer? As Whiterabbit suggested playing with the compatibility settings &/or maybe screen sizes may help. It runs OK for me in win7 64, though it doesn't like my mouse [or maybe the mouse software?] so that aspect was a bit dodgy -- it also ran in my VirtualBox win7 32 VM, though there the mouse was completely gone.

Hello,
This is a very very old classic game. It is funny but not a technical highlight. Anywhere I like it. It is good for kids. Thanx.
Save | Cancel
installed it, ran ok. Graphics were a little rough probably due to age of the program. Not fond of the game play. I can see where it would be more fun if it were a touch screen game rather than a mouse. I spent so much time mousing to an arrow and then mousing back to where I wanted the arrow that I missed getting it in front of the dweeb. I was wishing I didn't have a time limit to so I could figure out the mechanics and strategy. Found I wasn't interested in the game enough to fight with it in order to work out how to play it efficiently enough to have a hope of beating the countdown timer. If there was an intro set of levels to practice without a time limit I probably would be interested in it as a puzzle game.
Thanks for the opportunity to try it GAOTD. This is a pass for me.

I'm using Windows 7 x64 also. For anyone unsure of how to access the compatibility mode for a program.
I just right clicked on Dweebs.exe and left clicked on "Properties".
Left click on the "Compatibility" tab.
Click to put a check in the "Run this program in the compatibility mode for" and click on the drop down arrow to bring up the little menu. I scrolled up and went for "Windows 95" and it works fine.
It sounds longer and more complicated than it is, the whole thing took just about 4 seconds to do once you know how to do it.
It is an odd little game of planning, logic and timing. It is harder than it looks from the cartoony graphics.

Game works fine on Window XP. I am not a fan of timer games, but gave it a go. I did manage to complete level 1, but level 2 was harder and when I failed that I had to start all over again beginning at level 1. I simply hate that. Why not restart only the level you failed? I had a very busy week at the office and am not in the mood for a "stressful" game today. I may try it another day, but do not think I will be very interested. Improvements: loose the timer or give people a choice, create an easy level for kids, only restart levels you failed, be able to turn sounds and music off and enable window mode. For me the graphics are fine, cute and colourful.
Save | Cancel
Works fine on XP. Found it really annoying to be unable to shut off the music. Game is simple; this is for not only children, but somewhat young children. The only difficulty is that you need to multitask with your simple task.
I'll try this again but will probably end up uninstalling it; no point in keeping this one.
..........................Moderator comment......................
Hi Laura, you can turn the music off by right clicking on the speaker icon and select 'Open Volum Mixer'; from there you can turn off the sound to the game. Of course you lose sound effects to, but you could then play some music via your media plaer that fits your mood or preferences more. :)

Game works on win 7 home premium 64 bit.
The game is controlled by the mouse.
Left click on the down arrow, click to place an arrow in front of the dweeb colour that you want to move when arrow is placed right click will rotate the arrow. When the dreeb hits an arrow it will move in the direction of which way the arrow is pointing.
All you need to do is place the arrows in the right place to move the colour dweeb to the right place (the places are marked with the coloured triangle, square, circle and square)
You can see a video of the here to see how to play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjs7A6oVuOM

.........................Moderator Comment.........................
Thanks, but do try the suggestions i've made below. I'll test it on one of my win 7 computers just as soon as I can get one of the children off the computers in the study; (as mentioned elsewhere, we had a sleep-over last night, and they wanted to play on the computers first thing as I told them if the weather was decent today (its glorious), they should go out and explore rather than sit at the computers all day. (unfortunately I'm not a good example as they see me on my main computer virtually all the time. They do understand why (pain management), but still think as dad does, so can they. Otherwise as they say, its unfair.

Game extracts to Games Folder just fine, as a lot of games from GGOTD do. Game opens and starts like it should, but I couldn't get the game to actually play, even after following the directions in the Help section.
Game not only doesn't play, but the graphics went haywire after several clicks.
I rate this game at a 0 out of 10.
Game and files deleted.

Try running the game in compatibility mode for win 95 or win 98. I noticed in the read me that installs with the game that the minimum system requirements were Win 96/98. also the specifications for the computer were 10 to 15 years old (e.g. 4MB gRAM, 32MB RAM, cpu speed 200MHz etc.
I've still not tried to play the game, having been researching the game online. I will have to see if I also have this problem.

Unfortunately I've not installed my usual screen capture program yet (Capture Wiz Pro) so have been using the snipping tool that comes as standard with Win 7 and Win 8. The trouble is, you can't use it (unless theres a shortcut I didn't know about) when what you are trying to capture is in full screen because I can't access the snipping tool shortcut. The code to activate my Capture wiz pro is stored on a DVD, but that's on one of several hundred DVD's that I'd been cataloguing until changing over to Win 8 some months ago. Now I can't find the registration code for the database program (and I've even forgottren its name (something like Win Catalogue 2012) which is also stored on one of these several hundred DVD's, so I'm at a loss a the moment. To search for them could take hours, by which time it would be pointless to post a review. There's hardly any images of this game online, so you will have to make do with a poorly illustrated review this week (some of the images are captured from a you tube video). Sorry about that. There has been too much going on over the last few months for me to take time out to sort these trivialities. :) I hope you understand.
InstallationI'll write up a short review of my impressions of the game and tag on the usual games section at the end of the review. It's been updated to include the latest Steam 24 hr sale and the new IndieGameStand game.
Dweebs
Today’s giveaway downloads as a 24.4 MB zip file that unpacks to a read me and a wrapped setup file (the orange colored file with the key symbol), plus there's a setup file with security (setup.gcd) that's protected from being hacked (because the previous giveaway system was easily cracked). This file may case some security software to alert the user to a possible malware attack, but it will be a false positive.
The game giveaway team check all game giveaways for malware using several well known anti -malware suites. There has never been a game giveaway infected with malware since the project started back in Dec 2006. (The owners know that allowing such things would (or could) compromise their buisness, so they make sure all software given away via the gamegiveaway site is throughly checked for all types of malware before allowing community members to download any files.
Some community members have been having problems installing games since the security software was added last year. It's been found that turning off your security temporarily or configuring it to accept the setup.cgd file usually sorts the problem out.
To register and install the game click on the orange colored icon. The installed game is 22.2 MB in size and installs to the following path by default:
C:\Games\Dweebs_game
The path can be changed to suit whatever your wishes are. Once the game is installed you can delete the giveaway setup files. The game doesn't install shortcuts to the desktop and start menu programs list and there is no uninstaller. To delete the program you simply delete the installed folder. (Basically the game is free standing).
I've only been able to test the game on my Win 8 machine this morning (reasons already mentioned below in my replies to community members comments) .
I don't have a Vista or XP installation set up at the moment (and won't for several months until we move house later this year).
If you miss today's giveaway it's available from MyPlayCity (MPC) HERE 24/7, but do bear in mide the potential for toolbars and home page changes everytime you boot up an MPC game. You can also get it for free from Jenkat Games HERE

Common problems and FAQ`s::
Q1. I get an error message when the game starts or the game won't start ?...
A1a. Have you got the required version of DirectX8 installed !?...
A1b. Have you got enough free hard disk space on drive C: i.e. approx 80Mb ?.
Q2. The game feels a bit sluggish or slows down occasionally ?...
A2a. You should shutdown any other non-critical applications you are running on your desktop first, before running the game.
A2b. You are playing the game on a PC with a Video Card which is possibly less than recommended 4Mb memory limit, or your PC is quite a fair bit lower than the recommended system specification for this game title to run on - It will help if you switch 'Dweeb Speed' to 'Turbo !' on the options screen.
Q3. I can't hear any sound when playing the game ?...
A3. Either you don't have a windows compatible soundcard, or the soundcard is not available to Windows under DirectX. Therefore sound is automatically disabled when the game is first run, you will see a prompt if this happens.
Q4. My brain cannot handle this many Dweebs moving round the screen ?...
A4a. Practice makes perfect... but it can seem tricky at first, keep trying.
A4b. Strangely enough I believe this is why some people don't like spiders and other creepy crawlies - i.e. they have too many legs all moving indifferent directions all at the same time... odd eh ? :)
System Requirements:
The following system requirements are very basic. An average computer from around 15 years ago would have been able to play this game.
Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7 (plus it works on my Win 8)
Processor 200MHz or better
32 Mb RAM
4MB gRAM
DirectX 8.0
Video:
You can see the Dweebs in action via the following videos HERE and HERE
Music:
The music files are contained within a .dat file. Usually to open up a dat file correctly you require the same program that created it. CAD Delworth checked yesterdays .dat file and found .ogg files within, but wasn't sure how to edit them to add new ogg files (with a change of name) You can check his post to see exactly what he said by looking at yestrdays comments. The dat file makes up the most significant part of the whole game with respect to size.
Conclusion:
Despite it's appearance (graphically), this is quite a reasonable puzzle. If you like this type of puzzle game, where you have to move your subject from point A to point B avoiding obstacles and with a time limit, and which gets progressively harder as you move from zone to zone, this is a game for you. The only down side in my opinion is the codes you have to save to be able to return to the level you left. It means having a very good memory, or pencil and paper ready to note down the level code. This way of returning to a game is quite old now, and was very common 10 years and longer ago. I've got loads of old games that have thios method of saving, and I'm always having to start afresh becasue I always lose the notes I took. I did put aside a small hardback note book to record such things years ago, but my kids ended up using it as scrap book, lol.
Scoring:
Game Play - 7
Graphics – 6
Replayability – 5
Music - 6 (It's always hard to score this one)
Originality - 6
Total 6 out of 10
Suggestions to the Developer:
• Enable users to change the music
• Add mini games
• Update the graphics
• Update the graphics and get rid of the blurry photorealism.
Problems:
If you have any problems installing or getting to work today's game please go HERE for help. I've posted all of the common problems and solutions in a FAQ thread, which you can find in the sticky section of the forums by following the above link.
If you are posting late in the day I would also suggest posting in the main giveaway forums, in the game discussion section because I cannot moderate 24hrs a day over the weekend. If you've installed the game but it won’t work for some reason, it should still be registered, so someone may be able to help at another time. Unfortunately if your problem is actually installing it then once the giveaway period is over there’s nothing that can be done until the game is given away again (though that isn't guaranteed). Sometimes you can still register the game after the giveaway has ended so long as you managed to start the download before the giveaway ends. I've tested this and sometimes the grace period lasts for up to 2 hours, but more often than not 1 hour is the norm.
It’s always worth checking out the free games sites because sometimes the games we get here are also available for free from them. MyPlayCity (MPC) has the most with over 900 games to choose from. Today's game (as already mentioned above) is available from MyPlayCity (MPC) HERE 24/7, but do bear in mide the potential for toolbars and home page changes everytime you boot up an MPC game. . The game is also available from anothe site I came across this morning called Freegames.FreeGamesHome. I've never downloaded games from this site and it looks the same as all of these free games sites (MPC, Gametop, FreeGamePick and Jenkat Games), but if you do decide to download games from them do make sure you check the games for malware before you run them. The site and game can be found HERE.
You can get all three versions of Dweebs from this site; (Dweebs Platinum Remix, Dweebs 2: The New Breed and Dweebs 3: furbidden Planet HERE
.
If you do download any games from MPC or the other free game sites 'do' watch out for toolbars etc. Make sure you uncheck the checkboxes during installation, and, in the case of MyPlayCity, everytime you boot the game up. . As for the new

You can get a free arcade game via Alawar's game box, just click the free game tab. It changes approximately every month If that's not enough, check out the Game Discussion forums HERE for details of other games either free or on deals such as the Indie Game bundles or check out the four day sales at IndieGameStand.
The latest IndieGameStand game is Snorms , an isometric (or top-view) shooter with loads of weapons, maps and monsters. You play a soldier resting on his native island, but it is quickly overrun by monsters from outer space and no outside help is available. It's on the lines of those Alien shooters, but with minecraft like blocks rather than environemtns that try to look real. you'll also get a desura Key and, if you pay above the average which stands at just over $1.80 at the moment you'll get an extra map and the OST of the game. This game is on Steams greenlight loist, so, if it gets greenlit, ityou will get a Steam key for free. You'll find the deal HERE. This deal ends on Thurs 13th June around 4am GMT. I'll be posting more details about this game over in the game discussion forums just as soon a si've finished this review. :) Follow the link above the see it.
There's also indie bundles available over at Indiebundle.org. Each bundle has three games and costs $5 each for the basic bundle plus a few dollars more for extra games. Check the Indie bundles HERE
There's more Indie bundles such as the newly released Indie Royale and Weelkly Humble bundles as well as a couple more that you can find via the Game Discussion forums. All bundles are excellent value for money :). For most of these bundles you need not pay more than $5 for several games that would usually cost you a lot more. You'll find links to all of these bundles in the Game discussion forums HERE
