Introduction:
Dream Day First Home is the third in the Dream Day franchise. Jenny and Robert have just returend from their honeymoon and purchased their first home. Your task is to help them choose which home to buy from a choice of two, i.e. a Victorian to a 1930's style home. Then advise on re decorating and furnishing the home. Included are three different mini games, which when all are completed unlock a hidden level.
The Game:
After their marital adventures in Dream Day Wedding and Dream Day Honeymoon, newlyweds Jenny and Robert are ready to move into their first house together in Dream Day First Home, the next installment in Oberon Games’ romantic, story-driven Dream Day hidden object series.

As the couple’s trusted friend, it’s up to you to help them de-clutter (wow, they sure did bring a lot of junk with them), shop for things they need and redecorate to turn the house into a home – as well as deal with the inevitable home-owner crises that pop up from time to time.
Dream Day First Home isn’t just a carbon copy of its predecessors, however. Instead, you’ll find several interesting new twists. For example, at the beginning you’re asked to choose a house for Jenny and Robert by selecting either a 1930s or a Victorian-style home. Each house has a different story line and a different set of rooms to explore, so it’s like getting two games in one – and, you have to complete both story lines to unlock the game’s final ending.
Like a typical hidden object game, the goal is to search for a list of items hidden somewhere in scenes full of clutter and click on them before time runs out. In Dream Day First Home, the locations are the various rooms of Jenny and Robert’s new house (such as the living room, bathroom, backyard and bedroom), as well as home outfitting stores like Helen’s Fine Cookware and Susie’s Garden Oasis. Each room has a “before” and “after” scene, with the “before” scene depicting a work in progress and the “after” scene showing you what the room looks like after it’s been unpacked and set up properly.

Another new twist offered in Dream Day First Home is the addition of “super-clues,” which are indicated by blue text instead of white on the list. These are two-part items that involve one click to reveal the item, and another click to collect it. For example, the game might ask for “glasses,” which means you have to open the glasses case then click on the glasses inside. You’ll also occasionally find yourself searching for a group of like items, such as 15 keys.
If you get stuck, you can use a hint which causes a little golden bird to fly to a hidden item and reveal its location. Finding specials golden eggs hidden throughout the rooms will replenish your hints.
The Dream Day games have always been driven by strong stories, and Dream Day First Home is no exception. Every few levels you’ll get to read more about Jenny and Robert’s experiences in their new house and will get to choose which path the story takes next – for example, during their first night in the house do they get scared, find that the house has a surprise for them, or spend a “very special evening” together?

After every level you’ll get to take a break from the hidden object gameplay and indulge in one of three mini-games up in the Attic (complete them all, and the bonus attic room will be playable). There’s a card-matching game called Perfect Match, a slot machine game called Fix-R-Upper where you get to design furniture to appear in the attic, and a picture association game called Puzzle Garden where you match two pictures that are related to each other, such as a bird and a nest.
The graphics in Dream Day First Home are colorful and pleasing to the eye, and the soundtrack offers an excellent mixture of well-known classical music favorites by the likes of Chopin and Bach.
My only complaint with the game is that sometimes descriptions are too vague (what the heck is a “stuff sack” exactly?), and because of this, sometimes more than one item can apply to the same description – a suitcase, for example, could mean either the traditional briefcase or the canvas shoulder bag
Overall, though, Dream Day First Home is a charming hidden object game that continues the tradition of stellar storytelling and sweet, humorous touches that were hallmarks of previous Dream Day games. By the same token, there are enough new features to ensure that Dream Day First Home feels more like a continuation of the adventure than just a rehash of the same old thing.

Conclusion:
I don't particularly enjoy playing most hidden object games (my favorite are the old I Spy, Drawn, Dreamscapes and Hidden Expedition HOGs). Today's offering is okay, with decent and colorful hidden object scenes. It's a little dated graphically (12 years old), but that does not detract from the game play. There are some cleverly named hidden objects, so don't always look for the obvious. (I'm not giving any spoilers apart from the video links) and beware of using the limited number of hints. Each section has three hints and the scenes are generously timed.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 1 hit (Zillya) from 56 antimalware engines. Zillya is among only several antimalware suites that often tag MyPlayCity Games compared to most better known and more reliable antimalware engines; so, it's very likely to be a false positive and can be ignored.

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that opens your browser once to MyPlayCity Games home page after the game has installed and also places a few shortcuts onto your desktop; these can be safely deleted once the game has been installed).

The MyPlayCity installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to MyPlayCity's home page following the games installation, it earns MyPlayCity games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. The giveaway version of MyPlayCity games version has had most of the adware disabled.

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

Whiterabbit-uk,

Other Free Games:
Please check Delenn's threads over in the giveaway forums HERE {e.g. Crime Cities free for a limited time on GOG} and HERE for the latest non Steam and Steam freebies. Also for the latest Steam sales check THIS Steam database site out. You can list the games in 'price' & 'percentage off' by clicking the headers. If you link SteamDB with your Steam account, all games that you already have will be highlighted in green. When there are Steam games being given away, you'll see 100% off.
Ashampoo-Snap-02-December-2021-02h42m28s-023
Don't forget to check Indie Gala's freebie section HERE, then click on the Showcase header, selecting freebies from the drop down menu; recent additions include The full version of Die Young; we were previously given the prologue version, (which is still available free) Recent games such as Distortions, Dino Run DX, Cheap Golf, Kill Em All, Dead Hungry Diner and Contract with the Devil have now been removed. All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (around 100 are available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free, so you should grab them as soon as you can.
The latest Epic games end later today and include Dead by Daylight, a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed. We also get While True: Learn (Data Scientist Edition) - a puzzle/simulation game about even more puzzling stuff: machine learning, neural networks, big data and AI. But most importantly, it’s about understanding your cat.

From later today, we will get Godfall Challenger Edition, (released last year on the 12th November) - Save Aperion. You are the last of the Valorian knights, masters of combat equipped with legendary armour called Valorplates. Ascend in Godfall, a first-of-its-kind, looter-slasher, melee action-RPG the challenger edition includes maximum level unlocks and skills from the outset. We will also be getting the excellent Prison Architect - Welcome Wardens! Only the world’s most ruthless Warden can contain the world’s most ruthless inmates. Design and develop your personalized penitentiary in Prison Architect.

If anyone who got the previous weeks TheHunter: Call of the Wild is interested in playing some coop with me, please leave a message in the thread I posted over in the forums HERE; I'll then contact you via the email you've used for your forum sign in and I'll send you a link to my Discord channel and make some arrangements to play. I've been playing the game regularly since June this year (accruing over 600 hours of game play). I've found playing with friends much more enjoyable.
The best Indie Bundles sites that have been operating from around 2011 are the Humble Bundle and Indie Gala sites where you'll sometimes find decent bundles with over 90% off the usual price of the games included in the bundles. The Humble site is in my opinion the best. A more recent addition that is worth checking out are the Fanatical bundles (used to be called Bundle stars)that you can find HERE (thanks Delenn for reminding me of this bundle, I've just recovered my account and found thousands of unused Steam keys listed from various bundles I purchased from 2012 to 2017).
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, which has 95% of almost eighteen thousand 'overwhelmingly positive' reviews on Steam is 100% off HERE temporarily. Grab it while you can. This is an outstanding AAA game, and at the time of release there were very few first person Western themed games available.

Also available free at the moment over on GOG is Cave Story®'s Secret Santa

p.s. If you are a collector of removed games from Steam. The developer MS Game Studio are closing down their development team due to economic conditions and are removing all of their games from the Steam store from the 16th December 2021, at which time they will no longer be available for sale anywhere. All four games are 90% off until they are removed. I've checked the first two games, a single player game called Bloody Sand : The Gods Of Assyria (£2.37), and a single player/ multiplayer game called North Of Iraq Part 1 (£2.37), and found them both playable and mildly interesting but nothing special. Also available for the last time are Prison 69 (£1.54) which has a content warning being unsuitable for children and Battle Sad Boy (£0.71). The games get mixed reviews via the Steam community. I would say that for the price they are acceptable, but none of the games had anything new or exceptional to offer and in my opinion, are only suitable for those who like to collect games.

On today, December 13th. I get the offering: " Dream Day First Home was available as a giveaway on December 11, 2021!" As I don't have a time machine I can't avail myself of this one. Sorry.

I didn't install because for about the past week or so I've been receiving emails offering games that were being given away on the previous day.

Mick, I'm having the same problem! It happens with Giveaway and Game Giveaway too. Sometimes there are several programmes offered on GAOTD, but when I try to look at them only one is available - any others are marked as "yesterday's offer". I'm in the UK, and I realise that the time slots are different around the globe, but this has only been happening recently to me - and it is annoying if the programme which has only just arrived in my Inbox is "too late!" when I go to check it out.

Have only played a little so far.

What a lovely sweet game. Such a nice change from some of the darker themed games.

Finding the objects is just the right balance of being easy to find and just a little challenging.

The scenes are nice and bright and easy to see. So far the objects seem easily recognisable and well named.

Fun, very easy, mindless mini games too.

Overall relaxing and enjoyable. Looking forward to finishing it.

Thank you GameGiveAwayoftheDay, and Whiterabbit. Hope everyone's having a nice weekend :-).

Something weird happened when installing but first I want all newcomers to know this has always been a safe and wonderful place I come to everyday for umteen years and never had a problem. The issue today...I installed it and everything went fine but I did a small thing on the PC while it was installing. ( I never do that). Game opened fine. So to play safe that I didn't mess anything up I reinstalled (overwrote it). During that installation AVAST stop installation with a warning of this: IDP.HUER.25 I tried installing a third time and same thing happened. It did not do this on the first install. What did I do or what could have happened to cause this if you know. Again to Newbies it's never happened before and I love and appreciate this site.

The best thing about this game is that, unlike other hidden object games, this game is not scary. It's got some pleasant music and some nice mini-games. Younger children -- especially daughters (who usually don't like the suspense of the normal HOGs) -- will like this game.

In short, a nice game where you don't have to use your head too much. (What's needed is a keen eye to find all the items in each level.)

I played this a couple of years ago, and I remember it being a fun, interesting and enjoyable game, kept me busy for a few weeks as I tended to play it a couple of hours at a time, in fact my grandson used to sit with me and he loved trying to find things before me, so D/L it, worth it for keeping you busy and it really does have some good games built in.

Did not install, just confirms the install GCD and then opens a web Browser and hijacks your stuff! DO NOT INSTALL!

Reply   |   Comment by Keith  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-7)

Keith,

Hi Keith,

I've downloaded virtually every game given away from this site ever since it started back in December 2006 and prior to that, the games given away via the main site. Apart from one game that wouldn't install at all (an old breakout that I'd already purchased from Alawar that only worked on XP and older operating systems) I have never had any issues with any of the games that the giveaway team have given away including games from MyPlayCity.

Todays game installed with no problems and runs okay. For the past several months I've been scanning the installed giveaways and todays received one hit (Zillya) from 56 antimalware suites, 55 suites gave it a clean bill of health. Zillya nearly always tags MPC games (and those from TooMky and Falcoware games) and is most likely a false positive.

Can you explain how the installation of this game hijacks your computer? Also post an image of the message that confirmed the install GCD. You'll find this in the event logs. Just open up the event viewer and search through the logs. If you can remember the time you installed the game that will help find the log. (did you click on the setup.gcd file instead of the setup.exe file)

The gcd setup file is a wrapper and is not installed when you click on the setup.exe file; as mentioned in the read me, it's there to protect the executable by wrapping it in code. It was included almost a decade ago to stop hackers from ripping the wrapped game.

Back when we were getting games every day from the likes of Alawar, you had to install the game on the day of the giveaway; after that the set up file would no longer activate because of the wrapper that was used. When hackers found a way to take the actual installation media so that it could be used whenever they wished and install to any computer at anytime in the future a new Themida wrapper was introduced.

To install the game you click on the setup.exe file and the game should then install and work properly. .

The web browser is common to all free game sites. This action earns the distributor money (from the adverts located on the page), part of which is given to the developer of the game we are being given. None of the games you find on most free game sites are actually free, but are commercial shareware titles that sites like Big Fish, Steam, GreenManGaming, Gamersgate, Alawar and others sell.

Keith, There's nothing wrong there. It performs just like any other game from this site. You stop playing the game and it just goes to the site of the game maker. Just click out of it. The game is difficult to play with the HOG scenes. You can have either timed or untimed. It's not very interesting to play at all. I might uninstall it.

Whiterabbit-uk,
there is something in a way curious, if not strange:
In my system, the firewall glasswire alerted a "first network connection" after installation for the program "Xbox Game Bar" to "settingsfd-geo.trafficmanager.net" (IP: 51.124.78.146).
The path to the program is
c:\program files\windowsapps\microsoft.xboxgamingoverlay_5.721.12013.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\gamebar.exe
The same target, but different IP (20.73.194.208) was connected by Cortana (c:\program files\windowsapps\microsoft.549981c3f5f10_3.2110.13603.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\cortana.exe), before I installed the game.
But, I have Cortana deactivated!
Cortana started itself!
Now, Cortana is not closeable in the list of programs ([Windows]+[Tab] or [Alt]+[Tab]). Apart from that, Cortana appears not really in the task bar.
So, I think, this is similar to, what Keith happened.
I don't think, there is any malware in or with the game.
But apparently there is malware, which utilises certain opportunities to mask itself as normal and reasonable software, or to hijack normal software. (Apparently, both targets belong to Microsoft.)

I hope, you can read this, and it's not deleted again, because several times, comments from me were deleted, and I still don't know, why!

Reply   |   Comment by software-nutzer  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Keith, When games from this site don't install, it's usually because your anti-virus software is blocking it. Since the game is not, in fact, a virus, you can turn the anti-virus off for five minutes while you install the game.

Reply   |   Comment by Corylea  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Keith, I have been installing GGOTD games well over 10 years on both Windows and Linux platforms. I have used all the browsers out there, under strict firewalls and antivirus programs. I have never, ever downloaded a game here that hijacked anything, put a virus on my system, any malware or anything more than the game. In fact on my current Linux OS, I cannot download or install anything that would harm my system AND I must approve the download using my password. So I can state through dedicated following and experience that this site is the first one I go to when I want to download games because time after time, I have received nothing, NOTHING but the game. I trust GGOTD and Whiterabbit to offer us clean and safe games and the truth about what we're downloading. The browser WILL open to a home page depending on who is behind the game but it's not a trojan, meaning it doesn't change your home page and it's not a virus which forces you to download something to get out of the page. It merely opens to their home page which they get a small monetary amount for so that they can continue to offer games for free.

Keith,
Must be another problem on your side - I never ever had a problem with downloading here and I use this page since years.
There are only false positives from time to time but you can trust them always.

software-nutzer,

Hi, Thank you for your comparison.

With respect to your previous comments; I rarely delete comments and if I do I always leave a reason why it was deleted; and usually, I leave part of the comment intact so that the comment remains visible to the community.

It may have been one of the owners of the site, who sometimes moderates as well, but I would still see the comment in the admin panel unless it was deleted outright. (Usually if a comment is deleted, it only disappears from the communities view and is deposited in the deleted folder, where it stays for a certain period; this allows for comments to be recovered.. However, there is a button that says permanently delete once it's been initially removed. At this point it can no longer be seen by moderators or admins and is permanently gone.

Whiterabbit-uk,
one comment from me was recovered, after I complained by contact form, that it was unjust.
Then, it disappeared again.
Then, it appeared again.
It disappeared and appeared again at least one time.
Now, one can read the comment not anymore, if I'm right.
I usually comment on the German site https://de.giveawayoftheday.com/
but also on the english site.
The first deletions were because of problems of identification (I'm not logged in), I *assume*.
These comments were recovered, after I complained by contact form.
But last - I cannot understand.
The deletions were just unjustified in my view.
I asked by contact form about the reasons, but I have no answer till now.
