Dream Day First Home
In Brief
A hidden object game with mini games.

Installation:
Dream Day First Home downloads to a 75.4 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper the set-up file and a read me). The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed if you wish. The installed game is 136 MB in size.
C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Dream Day First Home
Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop; the Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game; the name of which may vary each week can be deleted once the game has been installed. The Themida wrapper may alert your security and even block the installation. There are details in the read me about this issue.

Introduction:
Dream Day First Home is the third in the Dream Day franchise. Jenny and Robert have just returend from their honeymoon and purchased their first home. Your task is to help them choose which home to buy from a choice of two, i.e. a Victorian to a 1930's style home. Then advise on re decorating and furnishing the home. Included are three different mini games, which when all are completed unlock a hidden level.
The Game:
After their marital adventures in Dream Day Wedding and Dream Day Honeymoon, newlyweds Jenny and Robert are ready to move into their first house together in Dream Day First Home, the next installment in Oberon Games’ romantic, story-driven Dream Day hidden object series.

Ashampoo-Snap-2019-01-25-23h17m29s-037
As the couple’s trusted friend, it’s up to you to help them de-clutter (wow, they sure did bring a lot of junk with them), shop for things they need and redecorate to turn the house into a home – as well as deal with the inevitable home-owner crises that pop up from time to time.
Dream Day First Home isn’t just a carbon copy of its predecessors, however. Instead, you’ll find several interesting new twists. For example, at the beginning you’re asked to choose a house for Jenny and Robert by selecting either a 1930s or a Victorian-style home. Each house has a different story line and a different set of rooms to explore, so it’s like getting two games in one – and, you have to complete both story lines to unlock the game’s final ending.
Like a typical hidden object game, the goal is to search for a list of items hidden somewhere in scenes full of clutter and click on them before time runs out. In Dream Day First Home, the locations are the various rooms of Jenny and Robert’s new house (such as the living room, bathroom, backyard and bedroom), as well as home outfitting stores like Helen’s Fine Cookware and Susie’s Garden Oasis. Each room has a “before” and “after” scene, with the “before” scene depicting a work in progress and the “after” scene showing you what the room looks like after it’s been unpacked and set up properly.
Ashampoo-Snap-2019-01-25-23h19m43s-038

Ashampoo-Snap-2019-01-25-23h20m35s-039
Another new twist offered in Dream Day First Home is the addition of “super-clues,” which are indicated by blue text instead of white on the list. These are two-part items that involve one click to reveal the item, and another click to collect it. For example, the game might ask for “glasses,” which means you have to open the glasses case then click on the glasses inside. You’ll also occasionally find yourself searching for a group of like items, such as 15 keys.
If you get stuck, you can use a hint which causes a little golden bird to fly to a hidden item and reveal its location. Finding specials golden eggs hidden throughout the rooms will replenish your hints.
The Dream Day games have always been driven by strong stories, and Dream Day First Home is no exception. Every few levels you’ll get to read more about Jenny and Robert’s experiences in their new house and will get to choose which path the story takes next – for example, during their first night in the house do they get scared, find that the house has a surprise for them, or spend a “very special evening” together?
Ashampoo-Snap-2019-01-25-23h22m27s-040

Ashampoo-Snap-2019-01-25-23h23m52s-041
After every level you’ll get to take a break from the hidden object gameplay and indulge in one of three mini-games up in the Attic (complete them all, and the bonus attic room will be playable). There’s a card-matching game called Perfect Match, a slot machine game called Fix-R-Upper where you get to design furniture to appear in the attic, and a picture association game called Puzzle Garden where you match two pictures that are related to each other, such as a bird and a nest.
The graphics in Dream Day First Home are colorful and pleasing to the eye, and the soundtrack offers an excellent mixture of well-known classical music favorites by the likes of Chopin and Bach.
My only complaint with the game is that sometimes descriptions are too vague (what the heck is a “stuff sack” exactly?), and because of this, sometimes more than one item can apply to the same description – a suitcase, for example, could mean either the traditional briefcase or the canvas shoulder bag
Overall, though, Dream Day First Home is a charming hidden object game that continues the tradition of stellar storytelling and sweet, humorous touches that were hallmarks of previous Dream Day games. By the same token, there are enough new features to ensure that Dream Day First Home feels more like a continuation of the adventure than just a rehash of the same old thing.

Conclusion:
I don't particularly enjoy playing most hidden object games (my favorite are the old I Spy, Drawn, Dreamscapes and Hidden Expedition HOGs). Today's offering is okay, with decent and colorful hidden object scenes. It's a little dated graphically (12 years old), but that does not detract from the game play. There are some cleverly named hidden objects, so don't always look for the obvious. (I'm not giving any spoilers apart from the video links) and beware of using the limited number of hints. Each section has three hints and the scenes are generously timed.

Problems getting the game to work:
If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Dream Day First Home to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game are blocked by their security because Themida code has been known to hide malware, (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not); so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though the files (i.e. the setup, read me and setup.gcd files are actually totally free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. You could also try white listing the setup.gcd file. In the almost 12 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.

Downloaded and installed fine on Win10 home x 64. While I like the horror and mystery themed HOGs, this is a fresh and different take on them. Really nice use of standard tunes as background music! My only issue is that some of the things are hidden too well! Even after the hint told me where the "marker" was in the living room, I still could not find it! Clicked all around but no go. I can't even tell you how many times I had to replay the first kitchen/living room challenge before finishing it successfully! Throwing in the towel for now, will return to this another day.

Thanks to all involved in sharing this game. I hope all is well, Stephen!

Robert, and everyone who loves this game doesn't have to bite my head yet, because I have a different opinion. You know, - "Tastes and slaps are different." It's a Hungarian proverb, maybe you don't know it here, but it's good. Sorry if I misunderstood what I wrote, but unfortunately I only write in English with the help of a translator. However, there were people who understood exactly what I said, eg. Jboy and Donna, as well as the moderator, answered completely politely. I thank them for the correct attitude, but I ask for Robert's style! I normally spoke to him and only in my name, and I didn't want to tell you what to love, or what he didn't!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lantos Piroska,

..................................Moderator comment.....................................

Hi Lantos, thanks for your explanation. I must apologize, I'm supposed to be moderating, but I'm so busy at the moment with my daughters revision, (she has mock examinations for her A levels at the moment and needs to show her teachers that she deserved the projected grades they gave her. Because of the grades they said she would get, she's been offered interviews at all the dental schools shes applied for. We've been tutoring her for months now and its been exhausting. My moderating has consequently suffered significantly.
At the moment I'm basically reading comments without really seeing them (unless they contain expletives or are obviously targeting community members. I don't think Robert meant to be sarcastic or to bite your head off and I agree to a degree with what you said, that said, a large proportion of the present giveaway community do enjoy these games a lot. It would be great to see a more diverse selection of genres given away, but we have to rely on the generosity of others and for the most part, the community are very grateful for the opportunity to get these free games. There's a fantastic and diverse number of great indie games of all genres available out there, the main issue is finding developers willing to give thousands of them away, We do occasionally see the odd indie game here, usually as a limited Steam key giveaway. At least what we do get is free.
Generally we have a fantastic community here, where most community members respect one another. If there is any bullying, inappropriate words etc, the culprits are usually warned to stop their behavior. If it continues they are then black listed, which means any comment they post will be invisible to the community and is usually placed in the spam bin, or if extreme deleted immediately. we do get the occasional troll, but these are ignored once they have been blacklisted.
I hope the negative comments didn't upset you? regards Stephen

Helló Lantos, köszönöm a magyarázatot.

Whiterabbit-uk, Dear moderator, no problem with the community here. Your attitude is very correct, and your style is very good. As you can see, your work is well-known, so you don't need to be free. And if I was ambiguous, sorry! I don't criticize you, I just wanted to, but I understood your reasons first, why is it. Of course I am also happy with the free options! I'm sorry if I have a discussion with someone commenting, and I gave you extra work! There is nothing wrong with me about this forum. More good weekends for you!
Sincerely, Piroska

Ahogy látom a munkádat is lekiismeretesen ellátod, szóval semmi szükség szabadkoznod. Részemről semmi rossz érzés sincsen ezzel a fórummal kapcsolatban. További jó hétvégét nektek!
Üdvözlettel: Piroska

Pamela,

..................................Moderator comment.....................................

Hi Pamela, It may be your security that is blocking the installation. The giveaway is wrapped in Themida code for protection. Unfortunately Themida code has also been used by some unscrupulous hackers to hide malware; so, some anti malware suites automatically block, and in some cases delete anything containing Themida code.
There are three ways you can sort this; assuming it is your security that is blocking the game installation.
1) ... White-list the giveaway files.
2) ... reboot your computer in safe mode with networking, install the game, then reboot as normal.
3) ... Temporarily turn off your security until the game has been installed.
The giveaway team have been giving games away regularity since October 2006, initially via the main giveaway site, then from Dec 2006 via this dedicated game giveaway site. They have 'never' given away a game infected with malware; so, it's a very good bet that today's game is also safe; add to the fact no one has reported any problems with malware today, it's very unlikely the game has any malware included. If the game had been infected we would have received hundreds of comments about the issue.
If your security software isn't the cause of the issue, please check the FAQ's thread that you can access HERE. The FAQ's thread includes most of the issues that the community have had with game giveaways over the years it's been live. If the FAQ's thread or my suggestion above doesn't help (which i hope it does), please don't hesitate to post another comment.
regards Stephen

Windows 10 ver 1809, 1600x900 resolution and I found no problems downloading or being able to see everything clearly. A very nice change from the normal HOG games and you can play with no time limit, something I always like. :-) It's also like having two games in one since you get to do one house and then the other.

This is a good game ! Nice quality, even though it is aging. I have played it before, and liked it fine. Always nice to have a freebie of this quality. I would not change a thing about it, unless there are technical issues that could be brought up to date Thanks for the great game.

I just love these hidden object games, and this one is a refreshing change from the doom and gloom ones :) I am using an HP Pavillion All In One with 64-bit windows 10 pro. I can see fine no blobs or indistinct objects so far. I must agree with the timer it is very generous compared to other such games. This is definitely a keeper! Thank you, My Play City and GOTD!

90% of the games offered here are "hidden object" games, which everyone does not like. Could there be more other types of games too?

..................................Moderator comment.....................................

I think one of the reasons we get so many Hidden Object games is because for several years from 2009 onward for every other genre of game released there would be at least 10 or more HOG's released. (It was basically supply and demand as HOG's were extremely popular {and still are}) The plethora of HOG's released by Big Fish Games ( BFG) was one of the main reasons I cancelled my monthly subscription to BFG games because you rarely saw any other genre than a HOG being released on their promise of a new game every day. I ended up with around a years worth of game credits, which I ended up wasting on games I wasn't really interested in because there were no decent arcade games in my opinion that I wanted to play being released at the time. There were literally thousands of HOG's available via Big Fish back then and if you check any free game site now , you'll find a much higher proportion of HOG's, then Time Management, then Match Three games to any other genre of arcade game. Thankfully the indie scene has gone along way to redressing that situation over the last few years.

jboy, Lantos Piroska actually included the phrase "which everyone does not like". Maybe Robert was just trying to clarify that Many of us do like and appreciate the HOG games. I know I do. :)

Reply   |   Comment by Donna  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Donna,
You may like HOGs, as do I, and had Lantos stated 'which everyone hates', that would be an incorrect statement. However, he/she stated, as you point out, "which everyone does not like". Therefore, if there is even one person who does not like them, that is a correct statement. I stand by my original point, that the hostile tone of Robert's reply was unwarranted.

Donna, Donna, "90% of the games offered here are "Hidden Objects" which NOT EVERYONE likes. Could there be several other types of games at times?"
In fact, I wrote this, but unfortunately I did not check back the google translator as I translated what I wrote in Hungarian.
I never speak on behalf of someone else, as I do not want someone to give me an opinion in my name.
It was a translation error.

"Az itt kínált játékok 90% -a "rejtett tárgy" játék, amelyet NEM MINDENKI szeret. Lehetne-e több más típusú játék is néha?"

Nice change from the "mystery novel" hidden object games.
Beware though, if you're playing on a high-resolution large monitor... it appears the game was designed for smaller, lower resolution screens.
Some of the areas, like the brightly lit Kitchen scene make many of the objects look like blurry blobs so it's difficult to even tell what they look like, and the first "mini-game" I tried the icons you have to match were awfully indistinct, to the point where some of it was just "click and pray".
Unfortunately the "windowed mode" is a bit TOO small, and I haven't yet resorted to actually changing the resolution of my desktop to see if setting it back to something like 800x600 would make much of a difference.
Big saving grace, at least so far is the timer is rather generous, compared to a lot of games that just rush you.
And yes, the timer can be turned off.

BobR,

..................................Moderator comment.....................................

Looks like a default 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 resolution from the screen captures I took, which covered two monitors that I'm using at the moment. The game showed up as a tiny square about an 8th of the size of the screen capture despite the game being in full screen mode.. The game is 12 years old, so you could argue that the high res monitors we all have now were only available to those willing to pay thousands of dollars/pounds for one, so the developer didn't bother to increase the resolution of the graphics. I agree, this was a refreshing change from the usual mystery novel HOG's (and, after playing it a while longer actually found it mildly entertaining considering my general avoidance/bias against playing most HOG's
