Thank you to everyone whose commented; it's appreciated.

This all started when my computer was hacked several weeks ago. After recovering my Steam account, I noted that my computer was becoming very slow and my browsers and most programs would crash after a few moments. I also received a few phone calls purporting to be Amazon and one of my banks; both of which I immediately knew were scams So, before changing all of my passwords, I decided to take out the main drive I used for my operating system and install a new one.

I'd forgotten my password to the admin servers (as I'd not had to input it for a few years since reinstalling windows a few years ago; so, I couldn't access what games were coming up, or moderate. I solved that eventually, but we also had some health scares in the family, so I decided to take a couple of weeks off; which as you all know extended into several weeks.

It was needed as I was becoming stale and not enjoying the time I spent writing up reviews. If you look back to my early days, all of my reviews were original and I rarely linked to other reviews. As time went by I found it easier just to link to others reviews (unless it was one of my favourite arcade genres, or one of the AAA games we are occasionally give as limited giveaways)), Unfortunately, linking to other reviews to save some time made me lackadaisical. Still, I was often spending a good four or five hours gathering intel, playing the game , taking screen captures etc, then cobbling together a review using a former I'd created that was basically copy and past work. I've always tried to post my own thoughts, but sometimes I was just too dog tired to bother, but didn't want to let the community down.

I'm hoping this break will bring some new energy to my reviews, but I make promises as life has become quite busy of late.

Whiterabbit-uk, "Still, I was often spending a good four or five hours gathering intel, playing the game , taking screen captures etc, then cobbling together a review using a former I'd created that was basically copy and past work. 4or 5 hours and this is your definition of lackadaisical??? Sincerely, I've worked with many people on paid jobs that could just manage to scrape together 4 or 5 hours of legitimate work in an 8 hour day. That's the definition of lackadaisical. In contrast, you do this for free! That's the definition of amazingly conscientious!

My good sir, as I've said before, you're far too hard on yourself. The reviews you've selected over the years - sometimes 2 per game - have been quality reviews, which is what REALLY matters. And you're "conclusion" paragraphs were often so succinct and insightful that they were usually the bit of info. that finalized my decision, even when they disagreed with the other review/reviews that you pasted. To me, they are as valuable as any detailed review.

But it's the great amount of info you provide, probably too many screen caps - but I realize it's hard to decide which are the most relevant and safer to be ultra-thorough - video links, reviews, succinct conclusions, and other useful knowledge, that is so valuable! Who writes the reviews isn't really important, as long they help us make our decisions, and, as I've said, your short conclusions were often even clearer and better than the good reviews that you've linked to. Bigger is not always better!

In short, you've done extremely high quality work over the years. And it's that, the quality, NOT the quantity that matters. Just give us any quality that you can take a reasonable amount of time to provide - without getting yourself in a bind - and we'll ALWAYS be SIGNIFICANTLY better off. Quality permeates everything you do, so the quantity isn't really the issue. To put it another way, you don't always have to bring gifts mate. Just drop in. It's you we appreciate, not how many hours you put in!

Sorry to lecture, I have the feeling that attempts to compliment you over the years make you somewhat uncomfortable - and humility is a GREAT quality. But sometime you worry me sir. :) Don't count the hours, just do what you want and have an easy amount of time for, and us kids will be just fine. :P In fact, I think that your massively overdue "vacation" has spurred folks here to come back out of the woodwork and pick up the mantle, to a certain extent. Honestly, I think you're great thoroughness over the years had spoiled us. So it's probably all for the best. Take your time and live your full life. Time is, after all, the most precious, most irreplaceable commodity. Even if life's mundane requirements often conspire to steal it. But that just makes it all the more precious.

Sorry again to go on like a lecturer. I used to be in broadcasting. Comes with the territory. :P

Whiterabbit-uk, I've always appreciated your helpful reviews, never wasted reading. More so, I appreciate that you take the time share your opinion, even though you have a life to lead besides this. I look forward to future posts, but as conditions allow you to.

Hi Guys, Please excuse my lack of communications over the past several weeks. I really needed a break from posting reviews and moderating.

I've been posting regularly since the project started back in December 2006 with very few breaks apart from our yearly vacations; (though even those have been put on hold since 2018 due to the lack of any rabbit and cat sitters. Our daughters friends used to help but they are now all working or away from home, so it's not been possible to go away.

I will be returning to my usual reviews and moderating, but at the moment I'm enjoying the break, so will be extending it for at least a couple more weeks over the Easter break as we want to do some family outings and generally do stuff together before everyone goes back to work etc.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Whiterabbit-uk, glad to know you're ok, we didn't realize how much you mean to the site until you're away! Thankfully, it wasn't anything serious. Looking forward to your return.

Whiterabbit-uk, Soooooooooo glad to have you back. You are read and appreciated by many of us, even if we rarely comment in the threads. Was worried at your prolonged absence.

Whiterabbit-uk,

Good to hear from you.

You are the lifeline of this community and we missed you and your reviews.

Enjoy your (much-needed) break. With the kind of effort that has gone into each of your reviews, you definitely need a break!

Thank goodness. Was very worried about you Stephen! Glad it was just computer and burn out. Hope everyone is in decent health now.

Well I live on a different continent than you, but if I was in your country I would gladly take care of your critters so you and yours could get away.

Landlord won't allow any critters of any size, shape or form here and I really miss having a kitty around and some fish to soothe my eye sight and lull me to sleep.

You take care and if you are gone for another couple of months just check in to say hi every once in awhile so we know you are still out there and kicking around.

WR, you can only do what you can do -- hardest thing for me since becoming disabled is cutting myself some slack because I couldn't do a fraction of what I'd done before I became ill.

Far as your system getting breached... IMHO maybe do some checking to try & make sure the cyber criminals stopped at Windows on your PC. That might have been as far as they went, but they also could have planted backdoors on any other storage, gained access to your router, infected any other devices connected to your network, including IOT stuff if you have any, and maybe worse case, planted malware in your PC's BIOS. Cyber crime nowadays is a full fledged industry, including what they call access brokers. They collect breached systems, selling access to other cyber criminals who then do their thing, like stealing your Steam account. Just because one is done with you doesn't mean a broker no longer has access -- they could just be waiting for someone else to buy access, and maybe using your stuff as part of a botnet in the mean time, which might not be that easy to notice.

If you're inclined to do more in the way of protection in the future... if you're running 3rd party security software [I use a mix of McAfee & Bitdefender on our devices], the beta of Microsoft PC Mgr. adds Defender running alongside it -- it's more than the copy of Defender that's baked into Windows. And if your PC can handle it, Win11's Memory integrity *might* help.

All that said, I asked Adobe's AI image generator [Firefly] what it thought you looked like, in case you're interested:

So, You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout. I'm telling you why... Dracula is coming to town. He's making a list, and he's checking it twice. He's going to find out who's a hunter, so think twice, Dracula is coming to town...

Yes, Count Dracula is on the warpath and not fooling around, this drac has guns and even the rats are in trouble here. The game was released on steam Oct 15, 2021 and has never been given away on GOTD before. Controls are WASD for movement and using the mouse to aim and mouse button for action.

The game so far is very difficult and not only because enemies are reigning down bullets on you from all sides right away but there is a white line under your red health bar that is a timer for the level as if the difficulty wasnt enough! Finally there is a blurring effect around your immediate area to not see enemies from a distance which did not add anything positive to the gameplay. 1, 2,and 3 keys are used to activate special limited time powers that have a timer to reuse but there are no included instructions. Having 3 special powers is good but may be hard to use them located over the WASD on the keyboard and having to also use the mouse at the same time. It probably would be better to have the second mouse button for the special power and using a single key to select between them possibly or have them as pickups with just one around at any given time mapped to the right mouse button perhaps. Overall its a bit too difficult for me at least without needing to use the 1,2,3 special keys and I found them hard to use with the control layout that couldnt be remapped in game. I did get to the second level after defeating the enemies in the single first level (which says is stage 10 for some reason) , so it also looks like a potentially very short game with only 3 levels if that is the case rather than a bug which should have 10 stages within each level.

Great to hear that you were simply taking a break, that you surely deserve, and that you will be back in the saddle in due course. We value your reviews but it must always be family first. Enjoy your Easter and we look forward to your posts in the near future.
