Introduction
Based on the 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, today's game Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde: The Strange Case is a hidden object game. You may find if you have a high resolution monitor that you may need to change the resolution because this game is quite old (I've not found its release date yet, but from the graphics and the hidden object game mechanics, it reminds me of HOG's I bought 15 years ago; not that older games should detract from the pleasure of the game, (personally I find a lot of older games far better (apart from the graphics) than their more modern counterparts).
When you come to the screen that says open your eyes, just click on the blurred object in front of you four times to start the game proper.
Conclusion:
Sorry folks, I'm under the weather today. I've managed to repost some links to a few game play videos and some BFG community comments as well as the two times this game was previously given away. Seems like I've been avoiding this one, but please don't let that put you off. I need to curl up in front of the TV and catch up on some movies and other programs I've been saving for a rainy day. My Virgin Media hard drive is at 99% full, so I need to go watch something. I rarely seem to have the time to watch anything these days. If I feel up to it later, I'll post some thoughts on the game. Hopefully Jason will add some thoughts on the game today.

Whiterabbit-uk,

You'll find regularly updated details of all the reasonable game deals and freebies that I can find HERE. The Steam sale is live until the 7th July. You'll find some excellent bargains, though I'd check out the other distributors such as uPlay. They have an excellent deal on the base game for Assassins Creed Valhalla, and the Ragnarok edition is 55% off. If you like shooters, there are some excellent deals on most of the Tom Clancy and Far Cry games. My favourite Hunting game Call of the Wild is only £4.79 at the moment, with some great deals on DLC's for the game. The dev's have also just released (this Tuesday) a new reserve based in Finland.

There are a lot of new indie game bundles over on Fanatical Games and a new freebie over on Indie Gala. I've recently updated my game deals thread over in the forums HERE

With respect to the latest game deals on sale. If you are into Flight simulations, the latest iteration of Mircrosoft's Flight Sim is amazing. It only has 20% off at the moment, but I broke my rule of only getting games with 75% off for this one (well my son actually purchased it for my belated birthday present). It comes in three flavours the basic edition (usually £60, the Deluxe GOTY edition at £80 and the Premium Deluxe at £109 before the 20% discount). Expensive, but the scenery you see when flying is breath-taking and looks real. Apparently if you fly over an area covered by the airports in game (the deluxe and premium deluxe have six and twelve extra airports respectively) apparently you can pick out your own house if you live not too far from the airport (whether that's true I don't know yet as there's not a Manchester airport in game yet - I live about 20 minutes drive from Manchester airport. I'm hoping to see a DLC with Manchester airport released eventually). I was going to boycott the game originally because when they sold off Microsoft FS X to Dovetail games with an announcement that they wouldn't be returning to Flight Sims, they then released Microsoft Flight about a decade ago, which looked fabulous. I bought into that; purchasing all of the available DLC for it. Less than a year after release, they dropped the game and for a couple of years I wasn't able to access any of the DLC, though you could still play the base game via Steam with a bit of jiggery-pokery after Valve fixed the issue with Game for Windows Live. They again said they wouldn't be developing another Flight Sim; then comes along this latest edition that was released two years ago.

Whiterabbit-uk, If the new M$ flight sim has Gatwick airport available as a DLC, I wonder if that will include the now-infamous "WELCOME TO LUTON" prank sign? :)

Cad Delworth,

lol, that would be cool. I used to fly out from Luton when I was in the army, being transported over to B.A.O.R. during the mid 70's

Changed the screen resolution to 1680 x 1050. This allowed clicking on where the clue indicated the barrel location. Never did see the barrel. For what screen resolution was this game programmed?

Spindoc01,

It's an old game so resolutions would be low compared to more modern games. I don't know what the native resolution was. No longer have the game installed, so cannot check. Thanks for posting your fix; appreciated.

Reached a hidden object screen where the remaining object is a barrel. I do not see a barrel. Tried two clues. Both times it circled an area in the lower right corner. No barrel there. The barrel appears to be off the screen. Tried windowed mode, but the same result. Perhaps changing the screen resolution will help. If not, then I will uninstall this game.

Lawrence Carter, I'm sorry to hear that the giveaway was not to your satisfaction. The comments posted on here are designed to be helpful as to what is good and what is bad with the product. If you can elaborate it would be helpful not only to the community but also the developers should they choose to re-run the game again to give us an updated build that can address issues the game had.

I played this game a while back. It's a HOG with some features not in others but it's a simple rainy day HOG. It's dated but in a charming way, the graphics are what you'd expect and dark as expected with this genre. It's rare you get a HOG that is done on a sunny day so you can see everything. This HOG has your typical villain who is disgruntled about something (aren't they all?) and your typical good guy being taunted, haunted, hunted, harassed, sent on a wild goose chase, etc. Story boards are typically skipped, I don't like the blah blah blah between HOG scenes. I played this game on a Win 7 64 bit system. I flip flop between Win 10 and Linux Mint, so while I know it'll play well on Win 10, I am not sure about Linux. I'm on the fence about downloading today's game, I generally don't unless it's really really good and I lost the copy. If you're looking to jump into the HOG genre of games, this one's a good start.

Deborah1962, It's funny you mention Linux Mint, I recently installed it on a black friday laptop I got for $99 US which has only 2GB Ram and a 32GB SSD. Unfortunately now the latest build of Windows 10 requires 25 GB of free space which means laptops with this storage medium are almost rendered useless. I installed Linux Mint on it and had 20GB left over after the install. Although we can't install giveaways on Linux it may be worth to see if we can use Wine on Linux Mint to try to install the giveaways here although it's not a given that it works.....

sailorbear510 aka Jason, you can play giveaways on Linux, but only through WINE unless you can find the STEAM version for Linux. Game giveaways also don't trip off the antivirus with their wrapper as it would in Windows. By the way, I installed and then uninstalled Windows 11. You're not missing anything. It worked on my system but I didn't like the way it ran. For some it works well, for me, it's bloated and complicated.

I have tried Linux Mint, Zorin 15 and 16, Debian, Ubuntu, Ubuntu Cinnamon Remix, Sparky Linux and most recently Garuda Cinnamon. I keep returning to Linux Mint and currently run 20.3 the stable version.

I usually enjoy HOG style games and I installed this one a while back and now I remember why I don;t play it. I really don't enjoy this particular style of Hidden Object game play. Thank you GGAOTD and Bigfish games for letting us have this game. Some of you might totally enjoy this but it's just not my cup of tea.

Today's game comes from Microids which are very well known for 3d type point and click adventure game publishing. Sinking Island, Syberia and so forth although I don't know if they still are the publisher of these games today.

I was very surprised to see them publish something like this as the typical story lines are the norm for Microids games but the play format is vastly different.

One thing I noticed upon starting the game is that you move your mouse around the title screen the screen has some kind of psuedo effect which moves around with you. I almost felt dizzy in a sense looking at that.

The beginning of the game was extremely frustrating even with the zoom functions on screen to help you find the objects it does nothing to help the clarity of the scene. I still was unable to find certain items without hints.

They advise you on the game to adjust your brightness on your monitor and so forth, I just have a laptop where you can't tweak the color settings like you could with a desktop monitor. Maybe turn up the brightness and that's about it.

Then on the second scene it said stay awake! I had to scratch my head a few times to signify that I had to hit the mouse button several times before I was able to start the scene to find the objects. It was a little bit more clear than the last scene but still I find myself struggling to find objects and I've used my hints on the first scene.

Perhaps this game is in need of an HD remake where the game is wide screen and high resolution, the size of the objects are increased and more clear to see on the screen but for now this game is just executed wrong for a hidden object format.
