Dino R-r-age Defense
In Brief
A tower defense game on the same lines (virtually a re-skinned copy) of the Royal Defense games we've been given recently, all that's changed is the environments and the monsters, otherwise, extremely similar to those other games.
Installation:
Dino R-r-age Defense downloads to a 98.1 MB zip file that unzips to three files, (a setup.gcd security wrapper, the set up file and a read me). Those with multiple hard drives are able to save games on any drive they wish. The newly installed game is 102 MB in size. The game installs to the following path by default, but can be changed by the user if you prefer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPlayCity.com\Dino R-r-age Defense
Four shortcuts are installed to the desktop. three of which can be safely deleted (Play Online Games, MyPlayCity Games and shortcuts to a free online game which vary each week). Also, if you don't like icons installed to the quick launch task bar, make sure you uncheck the box when the additional tasks window appears (after the Select Start Menu Folder window)
Introduction:
Enjoy the dynamic strategy game Dino R-r-age Defense and help the scientist save the time machine! Accept the challenge and destroy the legions of bloodthirsty monsters in the game Dino R-r-age Defense! Equip the vast territory with cannons and constantly upgrade them to get rid of cunning Fast-oh-saurs and merciless Spinesaurs from your way. Earn coins to upgrade cannons by increasing both damage and range of fire and collect stars to unlock next level. Do your best to withstand all the waves of enemies in the ravishing game Dino R-r-age Defense and find the way to return home!

The Game:
Review 1:
Dino R-r-age Defense is a Tower Defense-style game in which you must defend your base from the onslaught of thousands of dinosaurs. For this, it is necessary to mount several automatic defenses along the path that the monsters follow to their door. The more equipment you have in the scenario, the more protected you are.
Each phase of the game has several waves of attacks and, to protect yourself, you need to devise a defense plan while the dinosaurs are not coming. When they begin to appear, it is necessary to adapt this plan to the reality of the moment. You can even upgrade your defenses and make them stronger. With this, you more efficiency.
The game works basically the same as any other game of this style. To play, you must choose a point in the scenario to mount your automatic defenses. By clicking on any of the available points, some options are shown for you. It is necessary to choose the most appropriate one, taking into account the importance of this point and the amount of resources of its base.

If you can withstand all attacks, the next phase will be released. With each new level, stronger and faster dinosaurs will appear. The scenery will also be more difficult, so you have to be always on the lookout.

Review 2:
In the PC tower defense game, Dino R-r-age Defense, players take on the task to defend the a research facility containing a time machine – from the ferocious waves of attacking predators, various dinosaurs. Desperate to make the machine work again, help our scientist recover the operations before the vicious predators obliterates them completely. Defend the base from their invading forces, and employ the use of different bonus attacks and strategic selection of defense towers to outlast the enemies.
At the onset, players are thrown into the frozen tundra, set as the battlegrounds to in which your heated battle of survival between the different dinosaurs take place. For the patrons of the tower defense games, the game simply plays a whole lot like other titles (especially coming from the same publisher) and should easily get you a new rendition of your faved strategy game. For newbies and the lot of unacquainted tower defense game players playing though, a brief tutorial phase is handed out over the first few levels of the game to get you accustomed with the basics of the game.
Like most Tower Defense games, navigation is pretty basic in the game as it employs simple point and click commands from your mouse. Players are provided with a row of helpful gauge icons at the top – such as the Bone icon, the Heart icon, and the DNA icon. Bones help players purchase a variety of turrets to put into play as well as to spend for upgrading them later on. There are also the DNA currency - used for passive upgrades of weapons or discounts to your purchases throughout the whole game for a specific turret. Alternatively, they are used to deploy units over specifically strategic locations in the level maps. There is also the “Heart” icon to show the current life of the player has for the specified level as well as the wave counter to guide you on the remainder of the battle.

Ashampoo_Snap_2017.10.07_12h48m29s_011
Once the player begins the stage level, a pack of dinosaurs begin to come and enter the land. Players must strategically build crossbows and cannons on designated locations in the map in order to control the surge of attacking predators. Strategic placement around the map is crucial as some enemies might make it past the first few guns at the foreground.
Challenge in this game is well-rounded and interesting like most tower defense games. Players must stand against a wide variety of dinosaurs – all with varying skills and weaknesses. At the first level, players simply deal with the surging waves of these dinos, but then as you progress through the latter parts of the waves, they become tougher and a whole lot harder to kill. This introduces the need to fill the map with towers and upgrade them specifically targeting the different types of enemies.

Conclusion:
One of my favorite genres, but I did feel that this was just a re hash of those Royal Defense games; with exactly the same format, the same shop layout, the same awards, the same defensive towers, though re-skinned as well as other similar/same stuff. Still, it is well constructed and a decent enough game, which I'd score a 7.5 out of 10.
Suggestions:
After you've had an opportunity to play today's giveaway please take a few moments to give some positive or negative feedback about the game; for example, what you liked or disliked about the game, or how it could be improved. If you don't like the genre at all, please explain why and if any, what improvements would change your mind? If you don't have time to post a comment today, please do so at your convenience, thank you. To access the comments once the giveaway is over, open up the game giveaway to its home page then scroll to the bottom of the page where it says Archives and select the date the giveaway was live (giveaway days are in bold type). This will open up the appropriate page for you to post your comment or review.

There are thousands of subscribers to the game giveaway of the day every weekend which makes this an ideal forum for giving developers new or fresh ideas as to what their consumers (i.e you) would like to see in a game. For example, you could suggest extra content such as better or more original mini games, or a level editor that you would like to see that would make it more appealing to you. Maybe you think the graphics are a little dated and are in need of re skinning, or maybe you've just had enough of the genre and want to see something different or something with more originality? Giving such feedback instead of saying nothing or just saying this game is rubbish or good may bring more developers to the site, which could mean more and better games. Would 'you' give away thousands of copies of a game (or extra content for a game) away to a community that complains all the time instead of giving useful feedback? It only needs a few moments of your time.
This site could be transformed if only the community would be more forthcoming in their opinions of the games they are getting for free instead of complaining about the way this site has changed, for example, they don't like MPC games, they hate HOG's, have had enough of Match Three and Time Management games, or they want to see the latest version of Call of Duty or some other big name AAA game given away or that they don't like Steam games. If something isn't for you then please move on to the next giveaway, or check out the forums HERE, HERE and HERE, where a few members of the community post details of various free games and free game sites as well as links to various indie bundle sites etc; you never know, you may find something that really interests you.
If you miss today's game giveaway you can always get the game via MyPlayCity 24/7 HERE; or If you prefer to purchase the game you can get it HERE via Big Fish Games.

Problems getting the game to work:
If you're having problems installing or activating or getting Dino R-r-age Defense to work please visit the FAQ's Thread HERE and read through the communities comments because sometimes fixes have already been posted, for example, a common issue seen since the Themida wrapper was introduced three years ago is that some community members installation of the game is blocked by their security (usually an error message is flagged for example 'The executable is corrupted' even though in reality it is not) because Themida code has been known to hide malware, so as a precaution some anti malware programs will block and even delete the suspect installation files even though they are actually free from malware. This issue can be solved either by rebooting your computer in safe mode with networking or a quicker method is to temporarily turn off your security software to allow the installation. In the almost 11 years this game giveaway site has been operating there has 'never' been a game given away that was infected with malware.
If for any reason you want to contact the giveaway team, for example, you have a game to offer the community, or are unable to download the latest game or other issues that the FAQ's thread or these comments don't cover or solve you can do so HERE
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank MyPlayCity for giving away Dino R-r-age Defense and also to the game giveaway team, as always, for securing other ways to get free games.

Malware?

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

The games exe file is wrapped in a Themida based code that protects the game from being ripped by hackers. Trouble is, Themida can also be used to hide malware, so some security programs block the installation, giving it the appearance of malware, but in reality the file is totally safe. To install the game you can either reboot your computer in safe mode then install, white list the wrapper or temporarily turn off your security while you install the game. The giveaway team have been giving games away virtually every weekend for the past 10 years (and for 18 months every day back in 2006 to 2008) and have never given away a game infected with malware. the giveaway team thoroughly check all files for download to ensure they are safe. They are highly regarded by the major search engines; if they allowed malware to be downloaded they would lose this standing.

I have not played many games of this type, but this Dino R-r-age Defense seems better. I only played through three levels, and could only get 2 of 3 stars at most on each of them. Game is easy to pick up and play, although I have no idea what some of the icons on the "towers" are for. In 3 levels I don't really see any towers that work better than others for different kinds of enemies, but that will add more strategy once I get to that point. There are decisions to be made as to how to spend your "DNA" for general upgrades, and on each wave you can buy or sell back or upgrade towers.

At the end of a wave, one or more circles appear with number of seconds until the next wave starts wandering into your screen. I found if I hit Pause right away, I can click one of the circles to get bonus "bones", and still take my time buying and placing towers. When I'm ready to put my defenses into action, I hit the Play button.

So far it's a reasonable game, don't know if it will hold my interest. I get worried when the enemies make it past all my towers and into the building, but I'm just not feeling the game enough to have any sense of panic. I suppose I could move towers during a wave (I _think_ that would work) but haven't tried that.

Would love to have bigger graphics -- even on full screen everything is tiny. I'd like to see a "zoom" mode that magnifies everything, and a way to move screen around while zoomed.

Thank you for your feedback Mr Dave, I agree about the zoom function. Most good TD games do allow you to zoom in on the action.

I do enjoy most tower defense games, and am going to download and give this one a try. However, if it is really very similar to the Royal Defense games of a few weeks back, I can't say as it will get much play time by me. I found those to be far too challenging. Don't get me wrong, I know there are many who like a challenge, and I certainly don't mean the game should be so easy as to be boring, but I would have been much happier if I wasn't defeated every time on the very first level! Usually, these types of games start out relatively easy, with lots of opportunity to try a few strategies and win enough rewards to check out a few upgrades, getting more difficult with progress through the game. But if I can't even get past level one, I really don't find the game enjoyable in any way, shape, or form. I am going to give this one a shot, though - the word "dino" is what attracted me. Not sure when I'm going to get a chance to try playing, though - it is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, so I may get to try it later today. Might not find time until tomorrow, though. And that is normal for me, download the free game Saturday, but no time to play until Sunday, though I can usually manage to play the Sunday game by the evening- always too late to comment on the giveaway while it is still active.

...........................................Moderator comment...................................

After playing several levels I'm certain that the game is basically Royal Defense with new skins to make it look like a different game. As mentioned in my conclusion above, every process i.e. selecting levels, upgrades etc are exactly the same. Even down to the game having multiple area's where the enemies come from right from the start, which does make this a harder game to play if your new to TD games. Thanks for posting your comment. :)
