Please ignore community members saying there is no untimed mode. There is; it's just not obvious at first glance. The untimed mode is called Training. It gives you access to all 66 HOG boards right from the outset, with no fluff added, just the boards with no cut scenes or story board. In fact the perfect HOG (IMO)

Detective of Spirit World, a hidden Object game has never been given away before. Depending on what time I manage some sleep, I'll try to post some information about the game, but no promises. I'm still doing 2 hour shifts feeding our dwarf rabbit.

Notes on Security
I scanned a zipped copy of the installed game using Virus Total and it found 3 hit/s (VBA32, Jiangmin & SentinelOne (Static ML)) from 57 antimalware engines. Two of the three are amongst only several antimalware suites that often tag TooMKY Games compared to most better known and more reliable antimalware engines (not seen SentinelOne crop up before), so it's very likely to be a false positive..

The downloaded executable 'may' include some low level adware that opens your browser to TooMKY Games home page after the game has installed and may place some shortcuts onto your desktop; these can be safely deleted once the game has installed.

The installation does NOT inject any malware into your system. When your browser is opened to TooMKY Games home page following the games installation, it earns TooMKY Games games some money, part of which is given to the developer of the game for allowing the game to be given away free. The giveaway version of TooMKY games version has had most of the adware disabled.

You can see the results of the scan via the following link:

All remaining freebies can be found in the showcase section (around 100 are available). Not all games that go into the showcase remain free, so you should grab them as soon as you can.

The latest Epic freebie's are Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-shot Adventure - Smash skeletons, defeat dragons, and battle giant golems in Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure. Only on the first day of release y could you get it free. Finally and Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) an atmospheric puzzle platformer developed in collaboration with the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people, drawn from a traditional story that has been shared across the generations. Like many others on download day, I downloaded the game okay, but when I click on the icon it takes me to the "Thank you for playing Toomkygames" webpage. I had hoped that a resolution would be published here. That has not happened.

I would like to install the game. Please advise us all.

Reply   |   Comment by Stephen  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Stephen,

Hi Stephen, which 'icon' (do you mean shortcut) are you clicking?

When games are installed you will get some internet shortcuts installed to the desktop. These can be deleted apart from the actual game shortcut. All games from TooMky Games and other free game sites rely on adverts for their income; part of which is paid to the developer foe allowing the registered game to be downloaded for free.

Unfortunately I no longer have the game installed. I'm not a fan of these games; so, once I've posted a review and checked the game out for around an hour I'll delete it. So I cannot confirm what you are saying. However, I did get the game to work, so I'm wondering whether you are not clicking on the correct shortcut? I would go to the games installed folder and create a new shortcut from the application file ( if that is still an issue try using the file labelled game.exe).

Please do let me know how you faired?

Whiterabbit-uk,

Thank you for the lightning reply!
I clicked on the "Setup.exe" file.
Several others have the same problem (see below).

Whiterabbit-uk,
I found the ''game.exe". When I click on that, a System Error pops up: "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

What now??

Reply   |   Comment by Stephen  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Stephen,

Hi Stephen,

MSVCR71.DLL is a Microsoft C Runtime Library. You can try downloading the latest version of the library or go to one of the .dll download sites and download the file directly. Where to put it is another question. Either inside the games installed folder or inside the Microsoft folder within the System 32 folder located in the Windows folder. (or both to be sure.

I would first install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) directly from Microsoft. If that doesn't fix the issue, then download the library file i.e. MSVCR71.DLL from one of the .dll download sites. If you download the latter make sure you check it with your antimalware or via one of the online checkers such as Virus total first to be sure it's safe. I've downloaded various x.dll files from https://www.dll-files.com/ previously and had no issues, but it still pays to check as it's been a few years since I last downloaded from that site and things can change.

Ok I have an odd one - the mouse doesn't register at all. I click and I can hear something but I don't see the pointer. At one point I managed to find the "Play" button but when I went to the next screen I could not progress beyond that. Oh well, it looked interesting!

Anne Hogan,

Hi Anne, check the FAQ's thread over in the game discussion forums:

https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/11647

Hopefully, you'll find a fix there.

Also, try going into compatibility mode and fiddle around with the settings. It's an old HOG, so maybe select the XP option?

To get to compatibility, right click on the games shortcut and select Properties. Then click on the compatibility tab. From there you have several items you can select or deselect .

I like my HOG's to be part of an actually storyline or quest. Preferably with some other puzzles mixed in. Not simply scenes with hidden objects over and over (like this one). Clearly not my cup of tea. Uninstalled.

I am using Linux Mint 20.2 on a 64 bit computer with WINE installed to play Win games. The zip file extracted and the game installed without any issue. I was able to play each room using the Training (untimed) mode. I learned however, you must click the training button each and every time you want to play/advance a room. It is confusing because if you tap to play round 2, 3, 4, etc., it will load up automatically as timed unless you select pause and then main menu then training which is untimed. This can be annoying to exit a timed game with the accompanying You Lose window but, if you're like me and play only untimed games, it won't make much of a difference to lose a few rounds if it means not having to start over because the timer ran out. Also, as in the Voodoo room one of the items (strawberry) was behind the fixed Pause book and could not be collected, so no star for that level. I enjoy HOGs that have no music, no lame story boards, in essence, nothing to distract you from finding items. Each room is self-contained so there's no back tracking to locate items, no side game
puzzles to solve to progress. I am grateful for the game and other than the glitches I listed, it's playable and while not thought provoking a nice little game to play during a coffee break or on a rainy afternoon. Great for kids as far as I can see but if the Pause book hides an item, it should be noted as an annoying glitch that needs fixing but not a deal breaker in playing the other rooms.

I've never had an issue like this before and thought I'd put it out here in case anyone knows what the problem might be or if anyone else is having the same issue. I find nothing in the FAQ's thread addressing this.

Game installed seemingly without issue, popping up both the GGOTD and Toomky web pages "Detective of Spirit World Thank you for install" but upon launching from the desktop shortcut the game does not open and only goes to the linked "Thank you for playing toomkygames!" page.

In the program folder clicking DetectiveOfSpiritWorld.exe does same as above. In a whim, I then tried clicking Game.exe and I get a popup "The code execution cannot process because MSVCP110.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the problem.

I downloaded and reinstalled game, same issue.

Even though every other installed game works fine, I went to MS and downloaded and installed the runtime library to try and address that MSVCP message in case there was any validity to it. After which I downloaded and reinstalled game yet again. Same issue.

I ran as admin and tried "Troubleshoot compatibility" but nothing fixed the issue.

I am running Win10HomeX64.

I am stumped and thought this was worth posting as I see a few others are having issues and perhaps someone knows a fix. Thank you.

It was installing but really weird a file was blocked by Malwarebytes due to Adware. Now it will not run and just goes straight to the webpage saying thanks for playing when I click on the game icon. Is there anyway to stop the adware?

Nancy, I have the same problem. Also the Strawberry is behind the Pause too. In the Laboratory (the previous level) the Anka Statue is also hidden, but at least it has a small amount exposed so that once you know its there you can select it. I hope that there aren't too many other levels like this.

Reply   |   Comment by jb  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Nancy, The next one, City Street, the Flour Scoop is under the Pause too. It is exposed, but clicking it pauses too, unless you click a very small spot at the top right of it.

I get the feeling that this game was ported from some other platform that didn't have the pause button in that place.

Installed game, and when run desktop shortcut just opens Toomkey Website saying thank you for playing Toomkey game. Try running the file game.exe in games installation folder and end up with statements saying that certain runtimes are missing. Installed runtimes and then re-ran the game.exe and just crashes out with just a game program error.
Shirley is very peed off as she likes her HOG games.

In case it helps, in my Win7 32-bit VM it uses both 110 & 120 version Microsoft C/C++ runtimes, though that may vary with another copy of Win7, depending on what runtimes are installed. Otherwise it uses Direct Draw & Open GL [rather than DX].

Mick Andf Shirley, hi .
Try setting compatibility mode to Windows XP .
If that does not fix the problem , you must edit the shortcut of the game
to point at "game.exe" .
In my experience , that works almost every tine .

You need to be quick on this one - I so wish there was an un-timed option. Also, I didn't have a clue what some items were (clew, katana etc.) and had to use the hint function to find out, but once you know them, it's just a matter of remembering and being quick - but it will be a clever person who gets through all of them on the first round! It's a good little time filler, but probably not one that will keep you enthralled for hours.

Reply   |   Comment by Fran  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Fran,

There is an untimed mode, click on the training button. That gives you access to all 66 HOG boards with no timer.

Whiterabbit-uk, Thanks Whiterabbit, initially I did try the training mode - and there was a countdown timer, but not one on the other mode, although it still timed you out if you didn't find everything, so after reading your comment I went back and looked again - and this time the timer was on the correct mode and the training mode was untimed - it all seems to be working properly now, but originally it definitely wasn't! Weird!

Usually love HOG/adventure games so was happy to see a new offering here, but the comments have me concerned. Is it correct that you have to continue playing (against a clock) or you lose your place and have to start over? I like sometimes to pop in on my games and play for a few minutes in between other tasks, but don't want to have to start over each time. (And yes, usually with the good ones, I end up playing for hours :)).

Whiterabbit-uk, Thanks. I really don't mind a timed mode, my real concern was that it sounds like if you end the game after finishing one scene, you can't resume from there later but have to start over. I actually don't mind the cut scenes and story in these usually. Hugs to the rabbits (both your pet and you!)

This is a hidden object game that has timed rounds with random objects (each attempt has different ones to find). You have to finish all rounds to complete a scene. The graphics are fairly good so you don't have too hard a time identifying an object. It is similar to an other game I've seen from here a while back.

I haven't got through the first scene yet (almost!), so I don't know if there are puzzles between scenes or not.

unruly,

Thank you for your kind words. No matter how exhausting it is, we have a responsibility for them, plus It's the right thing to do.

We've never kept our pets in cages (apart from when they are taken to the vets). They have a garage and a decent sized room totally put over to them, plus most of the house is left open so that they can wander around. It does require daily cleaning due to their droppings, but most of that is done in a couple of areas in their rooms, and we have no carpets (just oak flooring, marble and rugs) in the rooms that are open to them. We've had a few accidents on the rugs, but they are cleaned immediately on discovery.

When the weather is okay, we allow them into the back garden (which is approx 90' by 90' with a further 20' x 25' secret garden at one corner of the garden) with supervision for a few hours every day ( they have to be supervised because none of the borders are secure - we have hedgehog gates in the only wooden fence at the bottom of our back garden and the rest are a mixture of Holly, Laurel and Hawthorn bushes; plus, there's a fox den in the next garden that did get to one of our dear guinea pigs when we first moved here. We didn't know of the fox back then).

:(

Our vet wanted to put him to sleep two years ago when he developed a benign tumour on his jaw. We know animal behaviour (I did a module on animal behaviour in my second year at university) and know that grazers such as rabbits will hide any pain they have. But they also show certain attributes when they are happy; which our rabbits did all the time e.g. binking, licking your hand, laying around like the queen of Sheba totally relaxed; whereas he never showed any of the signs he was in pain.

Because we have to hand feed him, we have to take him to the vet to have his teeth cut every month as his teeth do not line up, so don't wear away.. Several times the vets have suggested euthanising him. (lol)
