No install problems. My wife's addiction to Treasures of Montezuma can continue now, with this VERY similar offering form Alawar. It's a keeper for sure.
Thanks GAOTD!

Had limited time yesterday.

Downloaded the game but kept getting the code 1011930 error when I tried to activate it.

Tried to activate it today and of course the offer is over. Any suggestions (other than buying the game).

Thanks

Stephen

Hi everyone!

This gets a thumbs down from me, but just barely. Everything ran fine on my Vista Home Premium 32-bit system (some people who have had problems with Vista, try installing to a directory other than the default directory in Program Files, as that seems to have some hangups from time to time. I install all my games to a download\temp games directory, then if I like it, simply move it to my c:\games directory, and I have had almost zero problems.)

Regarding the graphics, no problems, even on highest level settings, and different resolutions. I, unlike many others, only like to play games in full screen mode, and it worked fine, although to be honest, I did not try windowed mode. Sound/music seemed to work okay, it was not bad, but not that great either. It seemed to be more relaxing, and put me to sleep, which is not a good choice, in my opinion for a timed action game.

Like others have said, gameplay is nearly exactly like Treasures of Montezuma, given away on 11/19/2007, with a few exceptions. The graphics on the bonuses on Montezuma were FAR BETTER than on Sky Bubbles, and on Montezuma, you could *easily click and then drag to an adjacent tile, whereas on Sky Bubbles, it was not responsive, which led to only working minimally, forcing me to click once, then click a second time to swap tiles. That was very frustrating for me. I beat normal mode on Montezuma about a week ago, and am now working through hard mode, on level 3-3 right now. The only difference I noticed is there are more varieties of ways to play in Sky Bubbles, but the other negatives outweigh that in my opinion. Also, it seems there are *more* upgrades you can buy in Sky Bubbles, although, unlike Montezuma, it did not show you how much you could upgrade each one. Also, it seems to me, after reading the help, you can only get one upgrade token per level, whereas on Montezuma, you could earn extra ones (which *really* came in handy!

My advice, if you got Montezuma, keep it, as it is MUCH better than this one. Also, the colors are more dull, and not contrasting enough in my opinion. It would be like comparing pastels to vibrant blue, orange, green, etc. They are different, but not substantially noticeable. Once again, If you got Montezuma, don't bother with this, as you will be disappointed with it by comparison. If not, I recommend classics like Chuzzle deluxe, which can be downloaded from http://www.reflexive.com/ChuzzleDeluxe.html even though it is a "classic" (read been around for a while), it is better (mainly the faster and more responsive gameplay) than Sky Bubbles. Once again, thanks GGAOTD and Alawar for both of your work, efforts, generosity, and the like, as always, I appreciate it. BTW, if Treasures of Montezuma comes out with a sequel, please bring it on!

Thanks, Mapsking

This game is actually well worth the price, so it gets a thumb up from me, and would have got heaps and heaps of praise on GOTD. But Treasures of Montezuma has been given away earlier, costs the same and is simply superior. Sky Bubbles is made by the same developer IIRC (Visual Shape) and identical to that game, save for a couple of details, all of which point in Montezuma's favour.

The music is bland. Far superior in Montezuma IMO. I like the different sounds that the various colors make in Sky Bubbles though, but the combo sounds are annoying.

Actively matching while stuff is falling and automatching breaks the combo, making it favourable to wait until the automatching sequence ends. Montezuma allows you to keep matching during falling and even immediately after it stabilizing, making for a more hectic and enjoyable sequence to get as big a combo as possible (my personal record is 45).

The control is weaker, as you have to drag bubbles precisely to the target spot. In Montezuma you dragged them in the general direction you wanted them to go, which eases things (although it occasionally misinterpreted, but rarely) and particularly when trying to rack up a combo.

You have lives that are lost when there are no more moves left to make, while the time is never a problem if you get a few sequences of purples. This makes the game more reliant on chance with how the new bubbles falling from the top are distributed, whether they allow more moves or not. I prefer Montezuma, where you simply get a new playing field if you run out of moves, and have to race against the clock or skillfully hunt for sequences of orange matches to get the all-important time bonuses.

The upgrades are awarded too quickly, occasionally I get 4 for one round, and there is occasionally nothing to choose from. I like Montezuma's progression where you get 1 for each round, and can earn a few more by skillful play and bonus games.

All in all, Sky Bubbles seems an earlier incarnation of Treasures of Montezuma. It's good, very good. But we have better already.

I like this game because Treasures of Montezuma is the best game I've d/l from here recently and I love that game so much. This is fairly close to that one and though not as good, it is similar and it's a new "landscape". Up to 5-12 on Montezuma. Love that game. So addictive!

This game has a couple of things Montezuma does not. First, there is a mode in which you can play without a timer. There are times I like playing with a timer, but most of the time I just want a puzzle, not a timed puzzle. Montezuma forces you to use the timed mode. Second, this is one of the few games I have found that actually lets me set the resolution to the native res of my monitor, which is 1680x1050. Widescreen monitors are pretty common these days, but games which take advantage of them are not.

One other thing that this game has is 3D. Now, this may or may not be a good thing, depending on your system. Mine works fine, my son's older computer is rather slow. However, for him, it works. Anyway, for those who say the bubbles pop slowly, have you not noticed the same thing on Montezuma? Or were you too distracted by the lightning? :-)

Cheers for a game that allows you to play a timed game, or not.

I like the game, but after 10 minutes I have to stop because it makes me seasick. A suggestion to Alawar: in the next version, don't make the balls move around and around all the time for those of us easily prone to motion sickness. Thanks for the free game though.

Just a note to point out that Treasures of Montezuma came after Sky Bubbles Deluxe, so if there was any cloning it would have been from Bubble to Treasure. There are as we know loads of these styles of games around, but not like these two (to my knowledge anyway). :)

Have a great evening

I will agree that this game is a Treasures Of Montezuma clone but I like 'Montezuma' so it is OK. I have yet to finish 'Montezuma' so I have this game waiting for me when I do.

Note to #33 - dns I got to level 2-5 easily so it may not be the game that is slowing you down. I do not wait for each set of bubbles to disappear, if there is a match available I click on it. I have made at least 4 matches in a row without waiting for the computer to 'catch up'. If you see a match, go for it. I hope this helps.

Great game! Not as sharp or quick as Treasures of Montezuma and the screen tends to make me a little dizzy with the background flight simulation but it's explosive, gets quite difficult and is incredibly addictive. This may be a clone of the great Montezuma but who cares... bring on the clones Alawar!

Easy install too. Definitely a keeper.

Beware from the flashes between the levels. They are ridiculously strong like the type to put you in altered state of mind. I'm wondering what the devs were thinking! Deleted.

Normally this would be a perfect game for me, but for some reason the bubbles are not switching or popping quickly - thus not allowing me to complete the level in time. Tried level 2-1 three times. Bejeweled, Jewel Quest, Jewel Match and other match 3 types are no problem speed wise but this just moves too slow on my pc. Even downgraded to the lowest settings in options and closed all other windows - no difference. Will probably uninstall. :( Oh well, thanks anyway alawar and ggotd - I'll be back tomorrow.

This is absolutely not a bad game.
I even like it a bit.....
But it is missing something....
The bubbles are a little slow and that is not so nice to deal with.
And the music is quit boring.
Number 15 I also could not finish bricks of Egypt (fantastic game) and got stuck on the last level too.
But about this game thumb up but not very high ;-)

My husband will be jealous, since we both love Montezuma and he "only" has Windows Vista.

Color matching. What does one do when they all look grey? I'm only mildly color-blind, and this game is better than most and making the colors distingishable, but I'm pretty tired of color matching games that don't consider the millions of people that are color-blind to some degree.

Enough color matching games.

All the same, thanks for the great service GOTD.

GGOTD I have been checking and downloading here for several months, although this is my first time posting. I just wanted to say thank you for creating this sight and offering a variety of games. (Husband loves the shooters, I love the puzzles)

Alawar, I love the puzzle genre and like many of your games, however my Vista machine does not. I am not complaining, because I knew I would face this when I purchased Vista. I am only trying to tell you that if I had XP, you would have one more download on several days.

Thank-you GGOTD and Alawar for giving away a free game today.

More Montezuma fans here, up to 5-2 now. Quick question since I'm new to downloading games. I tried copying one to disk to give to my aunt who does not have internet connection. While it looks like it copied, there is no ACTIVATE or INSTALL on the disk. Do I need to try copying before I activate and install on my own computer? What am I doing wrong? Is this legal to do with freeware?

For those of you who are getting trial versions, it's all about what order you install/activate. I learned this the hard way and can't tell you which is which without it in front of me. I think if you go back a few games somebody had said how to do this to get the full version instead of the trial.

#22 - you need to activate before you install. Read the readme.txt file for the install instructions.

I like this game. Yes, it's a match-3 clone but it has various forms of the game rather than just the simple match-3.

It activated, installed and runs clean on my Vista Ultimate machine. It also correctly recognized my resolution from the start so I did not have to change that and for the first time in 3 games, I was able to change the options without crashing the game!

Great game Alawar & GGOTD!

I already said I finished Montezuma - and I liked it a lot. Sky Bubbles Deluxe however is EXACTLY the same in an other cover. In contradiction to Milla, I dislike the setting from this game, not from Montezuma.

The bubbles seem to pop a bit slow, what makes the pacing of this game not as good as the forementioned Alawar production. And it doesn't have the same feelgood-factor as well. I miss the 'Score Frenzy' shoutings already. Well, it's free of course and I guess it's quite good to the people that missed Montezuma. Have fun.

I still play this game from when it was given away way back when. You should try it before you just blow it off. It's a great stress-buster. (Though if you're as stressed as Phil(#6) is over what games are given away, the only cure is to get a life.) You can just play in basic "ball-breaker" mode, also, without having to count "souls".
The sounds are great, too, but I always like to turn the music off.
In closing, all you people who can name every game this is similar to, down to the minutest detail, and then get emotional because it isn't tailor-made for you or lacks "grit" should turn off the computer and go out and interact with real people for a change. Seriously, some of you should be embarrassed for yourselves.

Nice enough game to while away a little time, and good for young people, but note that this is basically the same game as Alawar's "Treasures of Montezuma" already offered on GOTD, just different graphics and "story". Alawar seems to be in the business of cloning and modifying Popcap Games ideas, as well as cloning their own games. But that's the game business, I guess. Just think of all the clones of Monopoly over the generations. Someone should research how many match-the-colors computer games have been created in the last twenty years. Probably a pretty staggering number.

Hey... these kind of games are going to really come in handy since I'm going to be watching my 6 & 7 year old grands when schools out for Christmas vacation, so I'm not complaining!
Also, since the 7 yr. old has a birthday next week, I ordered 2 of his favorite games he loves playing on my computer by Merscom (WWII Tank Commander & eXtinction) so he can have it for their computer!! I got them on GGOTD. So, giving people a chance to try something out does pay for the software people!
