About deleting the zip files: #42 said you can delete them because they are useless after the initial install becuase of the 24 hr restriction of this website. Does this apply to all games downloaded from this site? This would be good to know.

another question: When I download a game to my xp laptop all goes well except when I go to play the game my laptop cautions me "that it wants to change my resolution to something that is not reccomended for my laptop" and then before I can do anything it shuts off and reverts back to the place where I have saved my games. I try again and eventually it starts without any problem. What can I do to fix this? thank you for any help

Good game. I played it far longer than I anticipated when I first fired it up. Somewhat addictive. Seems like the little kid throwing blocks throws them on the carpet a little too fast, but otherwise challenging. A keeper!

#26 Yes, you can delete the zip files for more hard drive space. They're useless after the promotion anyway because you can't re-install and activate when the 24 hour time limit is up.

To #38 - Shine "there is no full screen/windowed option for this game or any of the kind."

Yes there are. They're in the little setup box that pops up when you first start the game. Look in Options there. Windowed/Full Screen. :¬)

when you double click your game icon, you should get a pop up window with options..... you can change your screen to full screen, I did it and I also changed my color to 1024/768
Hope this helps

#2 I've used DAP for years and love it. I love it so much that I pay for all the updates to help support their work. Recently I started using Netscape 9 and the automatic downloader starts on Wikisend instead of DAP. I know, I should use Firefox but I'm having trouble weaning myself off of Netscape! I just Wikisend had an alternate download link.

Its a nice game, but the graphics are really childish. Also, there is no full screen/windowed option for this game or any of the kind. It works fine in XP; installation went smooth. No errors so far of any kind. I give it a 2.5 stars out of 5.

gave an error on exit, but the game is really fun. the error on exit didn't completely steal my icons like it did for #14, but i had to wait a good two minutes for them all to come back. i have a dell dimension 2400 with on board graphics - so graphic glitches are not new to me. i wonder if #14 has similar

OK this is a nice time waster.... which is my fav type of game. Only trouble I ran into was exiting the game.... sometimes it will end, sometimes it just hangs. When I think I have successfully exited I can't get back on because of some error messages about Dirext 8.
However, I did notice that this game stays in my task manager and I have to manually remove it. Once I do this I can start up the game again with no problems. I guess going through that extra step isn't the best way to get a game to run, but will do for the length of time I expect I'll be keeping this one. Nice game, fun, but I get bored with it fast.

This is not quite a match 3 but you do match colors. You move cubes around the board to make a square or match the shape given for extra points. It is a little tougher than it looks so if you are not sure if you will like this game, give it a try, it is a bit of a challenge. For the comment above that said this game was boring could not have played for very long or didn't do very well because this game does require some concentration to do well.

Thanks GGOTD :!: :)

Thank you for today's offer ... the dsl download/setup took under 5 minutes on my Windows XP system. As commented, this is not a 'typical' match-three game, so I am giving it a try.

Thank you WR - Stephen for a great review, too. I'm not sure if I will be keeping this game, but will give a 'thumbs up' for its difference and thank you GAOTD for offering two games this weekend = greatly appreciated, too !

The game downloaded and installed fine for Vista Home Premium.

Game itself is a blast and very addictive. I do NOT want to stop. It is not a match three, but very reminescent of a game called Align It. Matching the shapes for bonuses can be difficult but makes the game more interesting.

The only thing that irritates me is that it crashes when I exit and hangs, having to CTRL+ALT+DEL to get things going again.

All in all a great little game if you don't mind the fussiness.

As a relative newbie to this site, and an admitted game addict, my hardrive is fast filling up. Until this game, I've been able to burn my games onto Cd and play from the cd thus preserving my hardrive space. However, I've not deleted the zip files after burning the cd. Can I safely do that to free up some more hardrive space?

This looks like a great game for my grandson to play. I've given him my old laptop that runs on Win98 but does not have internet access. I tried burning the activated game file from my 'program files' folder but when I try to run the game exe I get an 'file access denied' error message that will not go away. Every time I click the 'OK' button on the error window another identical window appears. I can't even close it in my task bar as it generates yet another identical error window. I've even tried running the exe from the burned cd in this computer where I originally downloaded the game and get the same series of errors. What did I do wrong?

A cute match 4 game. The game play is a bit different. The background music is ok. The cube animation is good.
I'll keep it for a while and see how many levels I can complete.
Its not something I would have gone out and bought but is something to keep for a while.
Thanks

This game is GREAT! At first when I saw the teddy bear I thought it was going to be for little kids, but it's not. It's cute but it's a fun game. I love the colors and the graphics. I have a similar game that is so difficult you can only get past a few of the lowest levels. This one is much better. Thumbs up from me! Thanks GGOTD

#6 Lars, this is not a match 3 game.

Nice little puzzle game and not really a match3 clone. If anybody looks at this and decides to not d/l it as it looks like a match3, I'd think again and at least give it a try. It's a familiar format that I've come across as 'bonus' levels in other games (although can't remember which right now) and is a good mix of entertaining, frustrating and tactics.

The only thing for me is that when I exit the game, I get the windows chord that indicates that something, somewhere, didn't do as it should have done. Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks for another fine offering GAOTD team, I'll be playing this one for a while. :¬)

addendum: I said I wasn't impressed with the music, though it's not bad. It's the sort of music that's idealn for such a game and reminds me a little of the many relaxation CD's I have, Though it does become a little repetitive if you're distracted enought from the game to listen to it.

Have a great weekend folks.

Installation & Introduction:

Sorry for the late posting of this short review. I overslept this morning.

This one received 86% of 116 votes last time it was given away back in December 2006 when the game giveaway project was only a few weeks old. I’ve still got this from the first time it was given away, but that’s only because the game is a standalone like yesterday’s game so I’ve been able to use the original installation even after reinstalling windows, though you then have to create a short cut from the executable found within the games folder. If you’re not sure how to do this there’s a small tutorial in the games discussion forums:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/2594

Installation is a breeze with a combined activation and set up executable, so all you have to do is click unless you wish to install the game to a different location, which iof you have more than one drive is a good idea because as the C: drive fills up, the slower your computer can become because part of the C: drive is used for swap files - if you want to find out more about this just Google swap files or key words to do with computers efficiency. On starting the game a small window opens that enables you to adjust options such as the window mode (ie full screen or windowed) and your screen resolution. I did notice that by default this is supposed to be set to emulate your desktop settings, but this wasn’t the case for me as the game set the resolution to 800x600 which I rarely use these days. You can also toggle off the initial help screen from this menu.

The Game:

This is a decent blocks game that my kids loved when it was first given away. They played it for several days before finding another giveaway that interested them.

There are several skins you can choose from the main options menu (there are two options menu’s) and two game modes normal and arcade. The only difference between the two modes is that the arcade mode is timed, though from the help menu that pops up at the start of a new game (unless you’ve toggled it off) is exactly the same.

You have to create blocks of four cubes in a square or by using the pattern from the designated one found to the right of the playing arena. Completing the one that is shown to the right of the playing area will give you a bonus. The more matches you make during one turn the greater the points you are awarded. The designated pattern may contain more blocks than the four you need for the basic pattern of a square. You can combine shape, for example you may be asked to create a line of four cubes, but you can build up a square of four as part of this pattern and will be rewarded with a higher score. Though the larger the pattern you try to build the more likely that it could fail because after each turn new cubes appear randomly on the board. The more turns you take the harder it becomes to create the designated pattern due to the board being filled with different patterns.

The only bonus item I saw was the bomb, which to activate you have to move to wherever you want it used.

The normal mode is saved when you leave the game but the arcade mode isn’t.

As a Slideshow:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Super%20Cubes/?albumview=slideshow

Here’s what the developer says about the game with respect to features (copied from the readme file found in the start up programs folder).

FEATURES:

• Extremely addictive gameplay
• 3D graphics with impressive visual effects
• Various cube skins
• Timed and untimed game modes
• Additional bonus levels
• Step-by-step tutorial
• Saves the last game
• Superb music and sound effects (I wasn’t impressed)

:

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

• Pentium II 233 Mhz
• 8 Mb Video Memory
• DirectX 8.0 or Higher
• DirectX-compatible sound card
• Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP

Problems:

The game played fine but when I exited the game I received an error message that said Exception EInvalid Pointer in module Super Cubes.exe…….I had to shut the game down via control alt delete and then found that all my icons on the desk top and within folders had disappeared, though the names of each icon were still visible. I had to restart my computer using the task manager because the start menu had also disappeared to get the icons back.

I also received an access violation error a couple of times that had a different address to the first error, but each time the super cubes executable was referenced.

Conclusion

The 3D graphics are okay though not ground breaking and the game play is okay in short doses. I found playing it for more than half an hour became a little tedious, but initially I really enjoyed playing the game so will score this a 7 out of 10 for family fun and a reasonable challenge.

You can change the in game music by going to the games folder and opening up the music folder. You will need to convert your chosen music to the ogg format which is easy enough to do using one of the many audio converters we’ve been given via the giveaway project. If you’re new to the project and don’t have a music converter you can find one in the freeware library:

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/freeware/2007/07/30/free-mp3-wma-wav-converter/

You must rename the files you’re going to use to the same ones that are in the music folder. I suggest you back up these before you change the music though just in case you do something wrong.

Thank you Terminal Studios (and for your screensavers) and the game giveaway team

Not a bad little game, but nothing spectacular. Good time-killer and quite tricky at times. Works fine on Vista Home Basic w/512RAM

Both Tetris and Match-3 games have been mentioned in comments above, but this is NOT either of those. You have to match 4 cubes in a square to eliminate them.

Bombs help, as well as power-ups that eliminate all of one color and checkered cubes that are wild. An interesting bonus game at the end of some levels, with nothing but gray cubes and bombs.

This game is reminiscent of the type where you line up 5 balls of a color to eliminate them, as other balls grow on the playfield. It isn't real original, but for the type of game it is, it isn't bad. I would rate it 6/10. -Dan
