Swan, you seem to keep complaining about everything...
you ask for programs which YOU want.
Don't forget, they make the choice, they are not going to lose money for a few unprofessional reviews. Why not ask Microsoft to giveaway Halo 2?
I agree that the game is not as good as the others, but don't expect to get what you want and stop asking them, send them a email if you really want something, or download the trial and if you like it but it.
have a nice day,

The graphics and sound were fine. Hated the rocking "ship" feature, but could have lived with it if the pieces would have moved normally. Piece movement wasn't smooth and speed was way too slow. Plus, you couldn't choose your starting level like in every other Tetris variant I've ever seen.

Sorry, Alive Games. This was too boring to keep--even for free.

I am running a 2.2 Ghz AMD Athlon 64 (true 64bit processor) with 1GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon 9600 PRO 256mb video card - Windows XP home, everything fully updated. I don't believe that Cosmo Blocks requires the kind of hardware that I have, so I am perplexed if the game does not run properly on slower machines. Almost everyone has said the controls are unresponsive, and that the game is bad overall. I couldn't disagree more. Try it out, it definitely impressed me. I really recommend this one.

I can't get the dumb game to install properly - so it won't even work on my machine. But it looks as if I'm not losing much from the sounds of things here. Thanks anyway!

I found this game a little on the dull side. Like others have already mentioned, if you want to produce a clone, at least try to freshen it up a bit. No hard feelings toward GOTD, though. I've downloaded several games from this site that I had to buy because they're so addicting I'm afraid to lose them. You're doing a great job, GOTD!
Swan(#22): This site doesn't exist so software developers will have a place to give away every one of their products. Are you familiar with the phrase "beggars can't be choosers"? Also, try to keep in mind that, even if you weren't relatively new here, you DO NOT speak for everyone. Try using "I" and "me" instead of "we" and "us". That way you'll only embarrass yourself.
Thanks so much.

I dont know wot ppl are complaining about!
I have had none of the above mentioned problems with sluggish blocks or not being able to move the blocks briefly after its placed.....lol

try turning on vsync in the options menu, that might help.

A cool tetris clone with 5 different game types that add to the games longevity.

Good morning everyone!

This IS definitely a Tetris clone - and not even with any changes or enhancements.

I'm not even a Tetris fan any longer, since I'd already played the heck out of it many years ago, when one didn't have all that many choices in hand-held games - Gameboy comes to mind, as one of the earliest that I remember.

The download/activation and installation were easy as always and I saw confirmation that it was now registered to GOTD as soon as I launched the game. For those that are concerned, it IS the first thing you see when you launch, along with Start, Home Page, Options and Exit.

I always check out the Options first, which I have come to believe should be the first thing a player does with any new game. It can make all the difference to your positive gaming experience.

The Options screen, includes choices for:

Game Type: Stardart [sic] and other game difficulties. It's obvious that English isn't this developer's first language, but it's no excuse for incorrect spelling with a game that's released in English speaking countries. This needs to be addressed;

Game Speed: Low, Medium, High;

Screen Resolution: + choice of; >Fullscreen or Window. Oddly enough, no matter what I did to have the game play in a window, it wouldn't work. I went into Options twice, saved and exited - nada. Exiting the game and going through the whole options thing again, revealed that the change had 'taken' (in theory,) but still played in full screen.

Color Depth: 16 or 32 bit depth;

Texture Detail: High through to Low

Separate Sliders: for both sound and music volumes, with the ability to test both before moving on.

Graphics: Beautiful graphics, crisp, futuristic, and the theme hints at the pieces being electrically charged. The only part that I think should be readdressed by the graphic artist are the flames coming out of each section - they don't look realistic at all - which is a shame, when all the other graphics look so professional.

The playing field is broken up into 3 'rockets,' with flames coming from the lower end. The actual play happens in the center 'rocket,' with various details being recorded in the left one. Score, Lines, Level and Speed.

The right hand 'rocket,' shows you the time you've already played, the next piece that will appear and the game difficulty you've previously chosen.

Game Play: EXACTLY like the original Tetris - absolutely no difference, which is a shame. I feel that they could easily have introduced a few power-ups and anti-bonuses to spice up a very old, very tired game from the early 80s.

The only 'quirk' that they've introduced is that the playing field oscillates from side to side - which to me, made no difference at all, therefore is quite unnecessary.

The price of $14.95 is inflated to say the least - the game is worth no more than $8-9.00 and the type that you think would easily be found in discount baskets in Walmart.

Die-hard Tetris fans will love the game, while the rest of us, will probably uninstall it and never give it another thought.

Still, my thanks Alive Games for returning to us again, however, with the games you have offered for review so far, you will be known and recognized by - and this is NOT a good thing, since many here already have a less than pleasant opinion of you. You have far better games (and more complex) on your website - why not let us review those for you? It would go a long way to resurrecting your name among gamers who really love to play games!

Thanks again GotD for keeping them coming! It's an extremely difficult objective to accomplish, and you're well on your way to becoming a premier site for great serious software and ok games. If I can download one or the other each day - I'm happy! ;)

Have a great day everyone!
~ Swan

I usually like the games from Alive, but this one was a let down. Controls responded poorly and the motion of the blocks seemed 'jerky'. The description states that the graphics are 'primitive' so I didnt expect much in way of 'eye-candy' and being a Tetris clone there isnt usually much room for it. Yet, as I stated; the blocks fell in a jerky way that made it even more difficult to control. That added with the wonder of if I would need to push the button 1 time, 2 times, or even 3 times to move it drained all the fun from it. It seems that not everyone had these problems. I suggest that you take the time to give it a try if you are looking for a Tetris clone and see for yourself.

Thanks for CosmosBlocks. Downloaded and activated with no problem. but would not open, this box comes up:

This application or DLL C;\WINDOWS\system32\opengl32.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

Does anyone know what it means or what to do next? I run Windows XP. Thanks

Activated and installed fine.

Finally, no falling leaves and the graphics look good because the display can be greater than the limited 640x480 (like in yesterdays game and the "Falling Leaves" game, for instance). Although the graphics of the objects are indeed kept simple, that isn't a problem. It's Tetris. No need for anything fancy.

Gameplay, however, is not good. Like others also stated: movement of pieces is sluggish. Which is a big no-no for a Tetris game.

Uninstalled, thumbs down, thanks for the offer anyway.

PS:
The movement of the play field reminded me of one of my favorite Tetris games: Gravytris (Free, OpenGL, can be mouse controlled, different gameplay variations and an on-line high score list.)

If you want to try a (different) Tetris game and this one disappointed you, give Gravitris a try. Maybe you like that one better.

CosmoBlocks downloaded and installed without any fault and with no advertising icons anywhere in sight. Perhaps not akin to the wonderful games Alive Games have offered as giveaways recently but nevertheless a great game.

Yes, it is Tetris, nothing more, nothing less - but just because we have all seen Tetris games before should not take anything away from this version - the same does not necessarily mean bad and the game should be evaluated as if we had never played it before.

The software description from the developer themselves states that the graphics are "primitive" and whilst not as primitive as I imagined (BBC Micro...!) I do think that the playing area should have been bigger instead of floating amid much space that could have been utilised.

Unlike other comments, I actually did not have any problem with the pieces moving on first press and also was able to slide my pieces underneath others. I think the reason others are having the no-float problem may be because they are using the spacebar to move the pieces down instead of the down button - the spacebar does not allow floating whereas the down button does.

The moving "spaceship" playing area was somewhat distracting but added to the spacey feel. I did get the feeling that this movement was an attempt to make this different to other Tetris clones and was therefore just done for the sake of it.

Handily there is an anti-clockwise rotation as well as a clockwise one which can help save time on higher, faster levels - not all versions of Tetris I have seen have this.

Out of the 4 games I have reviewed from Alive Games this was my least favourite - not because it is a Tetris type game and not because it is not good - I just think that their other games have been better. Leaf Buster is outstanding and Reversi, contrary to so many opinions I have seen since it was offered, IS unique due to the skill of the computer player, more advanced than any other version I have ever seen. Even Bubble Splash which had little difference in difficulty even after 20 levels was somewhat different and had its own unique features as well as simply exquisite graphics. I feel that CosmoBlocks was missing something, it just doesn't quite live up to the other titles or have the "Wow" factor that the others do. A good game and one that people who have never played Tetris before will particularly enjoy, just, for me, it was not as sensational as other titles by the same developer.

I'm still not a tetris fan. This game does have very nice graphics. I love the vibrant, neon-like colors against the black. Nice choices for game-play, except that you must use the keyboard. I won't buy a game that I can't use my mouse to control. I was bored with the first level, but if I liked the game in general, I think I would like this. Since I've never delved into the game, I've never seen the pieces that have spaces in them. Maybe that isn't new. It's a nice product. Good job. I just don't like the game. Thanks, anyway.

I agree with the sluggish comments, and the no-float bug, but I'm also disappointed with the fact that there is no pause button. And I can't use the mouse to "click" option I want. I like the look and the variations but this game is too frustrating to use since it doesn't work like it should.

Has Alive games ever offered a game here that wasn't flogged to death already and which any sane person would actually considering paying for?

As far as I know the best they've done is something that actually works as it should (Smart Reversi) but still was so ol' hat that I wouldn't have paid .95 let alone 14.95 for because there are plenty of others available.

OK, This is the first DUD software I have tried, as well as being probably the most boring to date... Sorry.

Tetris with no twists whatsoever...and it DOES NOT EVEN PLAY AS TETRIS SHOULD!!! Now at least the "breakout clones" are actually fun and have different varients, I download them all and so far I have kept all of them.

Asides the horrible moving the actual falling block bugs, when you slam the bricks down, the playfield "bounces" so much it vanishes!!!!!
both fullscreen and windowed,

It basically loses the playfield from view in a spinning spaz and while the came continues, you can't see anything.

flicking between windowed and fullscreen resets the game in progress,

2 thumbs down.... DELETED..... may it be the last!

Systems used..... AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+, 1GB ram, nVidia 8600-GT 256MB
&
p4 SC 2.6GHZ, 1GB ram, ATI 9600 pro

I've been looking for a shnazzy tetris clone, so happy to try this one out. It has a great deal of potential, but sadly it has behaviors that make it frustrating to use.

* Like mentioned before, movement of pieces is sluggish. Frequently you do have to press a key twice to get movement in the intended direction. When the action heats up, this is unacceptable.

* Pieces immediately adhere to one another. In most tetris clones, a piece will float for an instant before it locks onto another, giving you the opportunity to slide a piece into a crevice or make a last second adjustment. Not here - as soon as a piece is adjacent to another, it immediately locks on. Also unacceptable.

* The presentation is kindof cool, but the bouncing play area is a little distracting when a piece lands. It's a neat effect, but distracting.

I want this one to work, but it doesn't. It's not that far off. If they could fix the responsiveness and floating issue, it makes this game much more viable - even with the bouncing play area.

I'm disappointed - I liked the look of the game and was looking forward to having a nice, compact, quick-playing tetris clone. Pity, really.

I'll pass on this one. Uninstalled.

How do these companies justify stealing an overused idea that is really just a clone...and then selling it!

The game does not respond to controls quickly enough, you have to press like two or three times to make a block move to the left or right. I love tetris but this version is way to slow to respond to make the game any fun. Probably will uninstall.

This one is really good. For a Tetris clone, this is great, as it's somewhat original with the graphical layout. The fluidity and overall play is top notch. Customization is great. Recommended.
