It keeps crashing on me too, which is a shame as I enjoyed playing it.

Recommend this game highly, particularly if you have children. My 10-year old in particularly loved them. Very easy to understand, but uses some logic and thought to play well. (I enjoy them too.)
Thanks.

I'm enjoying the game very much. One problem, though: it seems to have some kind of conflict with Windows Media Player. While I'm listening to music using Windows Media Player, the game will just shutdown. By that, I mean, it will disappear from off the screen but will not allow me to restart it until I go into the Windows Task Manager under the Processes tab and end the task. After I do that, it will re-start fine.

Thanks,

- John

I always enjoy your prosaic comments Merril. They certainly make me want to buy the games you review. And I also agree wit you wholeheartedly on what you mention about the negative comments aimed at specific community members. I suppose it's easy to hide behind a blind screen and keyboard; With no one to stop you apart from the moderators. "Cest la Vie"...please keep on writing those lovely reviews Merril. :)

Wit respect to Ravenill's comment #25, (no disrespect implied) I don't know about most of the games that were mentioned above, but I do know for certain that Battlefield 1942 plays via XP Professional SP2. It is unlikely that EA would give such a popular title away despite it being 5 years old. I for one (despite having all the other Battlefield titles still revisit this fantastic FPS. The modding community are still making maps for this game of which there are around 500+ as well as hundrds of mods. You can buy the whole BF1942 package, which includes the original Battlefield 1942 as well as "The Road to Rome" and "Secret Weapons of WWII" expansion packs called "Battlefield 1942 World War II Anthology for around the same price as one of these arcade games that are offered every day. There are still quite a few servers running these game if you enjoy playing online. I also have all thhe C & C games and they run on XP as well.

I've just bought Vista Home Premium edition, and ope that my favorite games will still play on that OS, but if not i'll still have XP running on a separate partition. :) So I'll still have all the great games that the Game giveaway team ave entertained us with.

Please excuse the long waffle. Just wanted to reciprocate Merrils pleasant remark and to put the record straight on some incorrect info.

Have a great evening, what's left of it.

I am having the same issue with the game crashing. I have installed it on 2 computers and it does it on both. I will be playing the game and suddenly I am looking at my screensaver with the game nowhere to be seen. Is there a fix for this issue?

It will work on Vista if you turn off the 3D stuff in options. Otherwise it's too s-l-o-w.

Some good puzzles - I made it to level six on Real Clicks and it suddenly went from a bit boring to pretty darn hard. The Lines one seemed a little buggy, although to be fair, I haven't installed it on my XP box yet - it may work fine there.

Like some of the other poster's, I too had the game suddenly just disappear during game play. Task manager did not list it as still running however it wouldn't restart from either the program list or the shortcut. Glitchy.

Nice program, but pretty boring.

If you play only one of the four games, try "Real Clicks". It's the least boring and seems to get quite a brainteaser in the higher stages.

I sure hope #16 is single!! If not, his wife has my deepest sympathy if he considers an honest compliment to be fawning!!

I really like this game, with the exception of the 3rd variation (the one where you make 2x2 blocks). I've tried 3 different times, and each time, I didn't even last a minute before the window vanished and I was unable to start the game again without killing the previous game with the task manager. They are all variations of games I've played before, but with improvements on all of them. I could play all 3 working games for a really long time before I got bored of any of them!

I too would like to add in reply to Matt Hudson's comment at #7 - has this site really come to the point where you cannot express opinions without being slated for them?

Matt made a suggestion, just a suggestion and then received 3 comments totally berating his comment. In my opinion, comments which are directed at a particular commenter in a negative manner should not be allowed onto the board by the moderators who apparently vet everything before publishing posts. Post #20 was particularly impolite.

I have seen personal "attacks" on other commenters in the past (hell I have had them directed at myself!), 2 directed at others particularly stick in my mind, one so overly offensive about the commenter's grammar that the new poster has seemingly never posted since (unless with a pseudonym). Matt's suggestion of seeking out popular, yet old, games no longer on sale as a one-day giveaway was not ridiculous (in fact I think it was a good idea) and did not warrant such replies - this site is getting like school where you were too afraid to ask a question in case everyone laughed at you.

This can be such a lovely site to visit but if you can't type a suggestion or comment without the risk of being asked "what you are smoking" then something is very wrong. We all need to remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and post without it being shot down as ludicrous. Not everyone agrees with everyone else; no two people are the same. But that's what makes life - and this web page - intriguing and fun.

Doesn't look like any board games I've ever playes. And I've played a lot :)

If you are interested in real board games, try www.boardgamegeek.com

One of the most popular board games is monopoly, but the issue with that is that it takes WAY WAY too long to play for the amount of fun you experiance playing it. There are far better games that take less than an hour that are much more fun.

This game is pretty funky. Recommended.

#7 isn't silly or wrong for inquiring about bigger game companies offering up a giveaway for us. The games he mentioned are no longer large in file size or demanding of system resources compared to today's standards, so there is no reason they couldn't be offered on GGOTD other than the fact that they are INCOMPATIBLE with XP and Vista. The games aren't expensive or advanced, but they are terribly outdated and the current versions of Windows that we use will not support them.

At first I was really excited for this game. It was a really quick download and easy to set up. I played the first game for a few minutes and when onto the other games. I was having fun playing when all the sudden it crashed. I tried to open the program up again but it won't let me.

I'm rather disapointed because I really really looking forward to playing this game and now it will not work for me.

For such a small download a lot is packed into this set of 4 games which, like yesterday's, promote logic and strategy.

The first thing I noticed was that there is no "Activate" in the Winzip file, the activation is built into the Setup and is all done automatically. Often with such activations there are codes to enter once you are in the program to ensure it is registered but with this everything is done instantly which is less messy and a lot quicker.

The game opens with a 3-D screen of swirling colours that will come to be the disks used to play each game. It is easy to become transfixed on watching the 3-D screen which is almost hypnotic, like a "Magic Eye" picture, but then I saw "Hello, Noname!" and I giggled so much that I was snapped out of my trance!

There are 4 games from which to choose, others have explained the mechanisms of each game so I won't repeat them. The boards are very brightly and attractively designed with vibrant colours throughout, the colours actually reminded me of being a child, do you remember when you saw things and looked at them with awe as if it was the first time you'd ever seen them? For some reason this game took me back to that and the colours mesmerised me.

The music is simply perfect for the game and provides the perfect audio backdrop to play. Some parts of the music are vaguely reminiscent of "Dr Mabuse" by Propaganda that was the opening track for the 1987 film 'Some Kind Of Wonderful', an inspiring and upbeat piece. The music in no way made me want to go in search of a mute facility and encourages eagerness in much the same way as incidental music would be used in a thriller.

This is a great pack to keep on your pc and with 4 different games you are less likely to grow tired of playing as you can switch to a new challenge. Also ideal for children, the colours will no doubt attract them and it is not a "pointless" or chance-only game as logic is promoted throughout and it will encourage thought and strategy, properties which will no doubt also benefit non-game areas of life.

Finally just to say hello to Whiterabbit!!! Thank you so much for your lovely message on here yesterday, I have not been able to post reviews recently due to being unwell but was touched that you had noticed my absence!! Hope you are well, take care.

Merril :-)

12 comments and the only one that is anywhere helpfull, informative or critical is Whiterabit aka Stephen.

The only other comments are what some call "healthy constructive criticism" and the rest would call at best compliments and at worst sycophantic fawning.

About the game : it looks nice enough... the graphics aren't bad if you like that overly bright and cheery kind of thing. The game play is hardly original but it serves it's purpose. All in all a far better effort then the silly Hackers Evolution of a couple of days ago. See what this programmer can do with a 3 MB download? Keeping in mind that programming wise it's far more intricate then Hacker Evolution.

No it isn't my kind of game but all in all not bad. The only beef I have with it is the price they normally ask for. As per usual, it's ridiculous. The equivalent of a street musician asking for 250 USD because that's the price of attending a concert afterall.

#7 (Matt Hudson) Do you really think that gGOTD could get a contract with those sort of companies? or was that a joke? gGOTD works on the same principle as the normal giveaway ie you are here to test and give feedback hence no big names will come here (how many companies have you seen on here that you had heard of before? for me its 2, and then still not well)

Anyway...to the game and the whole point: Quite good actually, small DL size, a few different games, reasonably fun, overall a good timekiller =D

This was originally available Jan 6th this year, but at that time nearly everyone had issues with it, and I was disappointed at not being able to get the game working at that time so it is pleasing that you have repeated the game. I look forwards to other repeats, especially those games given away prior to the start up of the game giveaway as I missed all but the Arkanoid TVI game. :); and the period when I was in hospital. Again, it’s of no consequence if you don’t, but as someone pointed out yesterday, it will give newcomers the opportunity to experience the pleasure that many of these giveaway games have given to me and the rest of the community, bar a few ungrateful people. I’d say this is a precursor of super blocks, but it can’t be as according to the intro screen it was made at the beginning of this year. I presume this is an upgrade as I distinctly remember playing the demo previously to the first giveaway pre 2007. Also the graphics would not tie in with it being a 2007 game as they are a little drab (IMO), but hey I’m being pernickety, it is of little consequence as the overall game play is great and IMO that is the most important aspect of a game. The graphics and sound are just additional sweets to make the game more pleasant to play, but in reality are not really needed. You will find four different games within the same genre and I would say the game is well worth downloading.

This time around it installed and played fine. No issues at all. The game is simple in design with the usual options menu where you can toggle between full and windowed mode as well as toggle between 3D and 2D views. The music and sound effects can be turned off via sliders.

The four games include:

Real Clicks; You have to move adjoining chips of the same color. There are two versions, arcade and random. The random game contains at least 2 bonuses per level. These are Cross laser, Bomb, Joker and Coin.

Speed Lines: Chips appear randomly around the board. You have to arrange chips of the same color into lines of 5 or more.

Super Blocks: Chips appear randomly. You have to arrange them in blocks of the same color, 2x2 or greater.

Fast Balls: Chips fall from above. You have to arrange them in vertical or horizontal lines of three or more chips.

When selecting which game you wish to play you will get a simple help page explaining how to play the game and in the case of Real Clicks, you can find out more details about the four bonuses that you get to help you win each level. As you progress through the levels the game speeds up, thus making it more difficult. This is an ideal set of games to clean out the dust and cobwebs in a tired brain (lol) and get you’re thinking processes up to par or better.

You can save your progress and more than one player is able to save games.

Sorry this is another short review. My week has been manic (for me anyway), so I’ve had little time to re check these repeated games and then write a thoughtful review. This particular game is definitely a keeper and I give it 7 out of 10 for playability.

Thank you GameOver Games and the Games Giveaway team for another decent game. As always I very much appreciate the work you do. My mornings are always brightened by your presence.
