RE moderator comment for Comment No.88 ...

Stephen- Sorry for the confusion. I was not implying that you should delete the game. What happened is that I was only just doing what I normally do each fortnight or thereabouts: removing previously downloaded GOTD/GGOTD setup packages. They are no longer useful after the giveaways are over anyway, and I usually send them to the recycle dustbin en masse.

It was then that I had AVG flag every single one as they headed for the dustbin on my desktop. My first thought was that I was having yet another glitch with Vista, and that something was amiss with the AVG-Vista relationship on my system.

I also scanned the installed files and there is NO VIRUS. Thus, as others stated, it's the "wrapper" that's nicked. (Oddly, I don't understand why it's behaviour is ignored as the "wrapper" "phones home" which should trigger every antivirus software as a potential threat - not defined - just a general threat where one has to "OK" allowing contact to wherever the "wrapper" connects to.)

The next morning, I read comments on yesterday's giveaway to discover that EVERYONE using AVG was having EVERYTHING flagged (LOL) :0 - just like me!

Therefore, the problem MUST be with the latest virus definitions from AVG! And it's not just a general threat, but something defined - supposedly.

How could EVERY previous giveaway setup file, including my new favorite Be A King II suddenly have a virus AFTER AVG already passed it!?! Rubbish.

I do believe you'll have to start each giveaway with a disclaimer regarding AVG, at least until this mess is resolved over the Channel at AVG. Put on my name as a long term GGOTD user that this must be an error at AVG.

Can you edit or remove my comment No.88 as I don't want anyone to believe I am discrediting ANY of the giveaways - I'm not.

Also, I sincerely hope whomever moderates over at GOTD, place, as COMMENT No.1 this same AVG disclaimer, perhaps with testimonials from longterm users such as myself! If they do not do that, then quite a few users, especially casual users and "newbies" are going to get their knickers in a twist over some silly mistake at AVG until this is resolved.

Too many people will see the red screen, then not bother any more from that point on.

In addition, I had to make an exception within AVG, JUST to install the game. As a result of this and trying to analyse what was happening, I had not the time to try the game enough to make an evaluation / review of it - sorry.

Good night and take care! Stephen, thanks once again for moderating this page, making excellent reviews and dealing with the problems. Cheers.

P. S. I am keeping some of the old setup files at hand and shall keep testing them as AVG sends new definitions. I promise to let you know when this rubbish from AVG is resolved. I HOPE that is SOON!

Installed fine on XP SP3, no virus flags. Excellent 'block game' (prefer Da Vinci though) for the first 15 puzzles but the gold coins and the countdown clock kills it dead in its tracks. Thanks for the firs 15 puzzles but will now uninstall.

As C.J. in "PS" wrote, I also have the German AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012. I think, he is right. It seems to be a problem in AVG Virusdefinitions. I turned of AVG for 10 minutes and ran the setup-file and installed the game. After that, no virus was found in the extracted files.

There's a great deal to like about Circus Pomché - the concept, graphics and music are all excellent. I strongly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys puzzles, and isn't in a huge hurry to make progress. Since this game is 3D, I can only play it for about half an hour at a time. It will probably take me months to finish the whole game.

There are a couple of things about Circus Pomché I'd like to change. Some clear controls on the image rotation would be helpful. The rotation is really quick, and the vertical axis controls aren't intuitive. Like all 3D games, the rotation in this game made me feel a bit queasy, so I'd like some fine control over it.

And then there's the baffling logic! Once you reach a certain point in the game, there are restrictions on where certain block types can be moved (it becomes a kind of 3D chess) and I found it frustratingly difficult to figure out the logical rules governing their movement, even after I'd beaten levels containing those blocks. So I suggest that once a level containing a type of block has been beaten, it would be good to be able to refer to a rulebook (i.e one which is revealed as the player progresses). Because without an explicit rule in mind to use for planning logical solutions, moving certain blocks started to feel more like trial and error than solving a challenging puzzle.

THanks very much to Bash Games and GOTD. This has been a great weekend for GGOTD, with two interesting and absorbing games.

I know it's late but just wanted to +1 the AVG issue. Win7/64 and AVG updated. AVG detected a threat on open of the extracted setup.exe file: Trojan horse BackDoor.Hupigon5.CBOV. I really wanted the game so decided to have faith in GOTD, just temp disabled AVG to install and then reset it. Scan of installed folder/files comes out clean.

I really enjoy this game, not only because it's different game-wise, but it will give my brain a different workout as well. Severe dementia runs in my family and while no one knows for sure how to prevent it, they all say work a variety of puzzles. This game will definitely help. I really just wanted to check to make sure it ran, but it was so entertaining I ended up playing for quite a while. Definitely a keeper.

.......................Moderator comment.........................

Thank you for your feedback and glad you trusted the giveaway project. It's just sad that the game didn't get the download numbers it deserved because of the threat AVG (no other high profile malware program detected a problem) gave to it. I was duty bound to inform the community even tohugh I could easily have blocked any comments that mentioned the false positive. consequently the download ended up being half of what it should have been. ah well, those that don't know the giveawayoftheday very well will have lost out on a very good game.

What happened to "Tower defense" as you so proudly boasted
would be here today?

typical.

Disgusted

..........................Moderator Comment...........................

There was no boasting, what I said was:

"This is an excellent mix of time management, strategy, building and tower defense, with over 35 levels to work through". How is that proudly boasting, it was basically a simple statment of fact.....

The Tower Defence part of the game was building Barracks, Mage and Wizard towers to defend against monsters and raiders. Did you bother to read the whole of the review and did you actually play the game? I'm assuming you didn't because you would have realized what I meant by the statement above.

I never said there was going to be a tower Defense game but a combination of three genres that included Tower Defense. Maybe I should have been more specific by saying 'elements of Tower Defense'. The game given away yesterday had elements of strategy, building time management AND tower defense (as i said it would).

Why you have to be so ungrateful in the way you post your comment. I wasn't going to moderate it, but felt you needed an explanation and a word about your lack of communication skills. you won't get vey far by being so aggressive in your comments. - This is a free service and I do the moderation and write reviews voluntarily. I don't get paid. You can find loads of free browser based tower defense games on sites like mini clip, plus there are some free downloadable TD games to be found in the free games synopsis over in the giveawayoftheday forums if you care to take the time to look.

I really don't know why I bother wasting my time replying to users like yourself., you don't deserve it, but I'm to easy going and end up trying to help despite the lack of respect you show.

I think the above message has something to do with your provider. The download servers were fine all day, so it could only have been from your providers server. Maybe you should approach them to find out if there was a problem. Save having to go through the same when we get more games next week.

Late to game. Gosh 2 goodies in a row! Ok Win 7 x64 Ultimate. Full scteen. Can off music, no slider. So far mouse is all needed to play.
Did about 5 levels. Have to watch closely the pattern such that make a block have verticle or horizontal lines then have star block mount up double blocks. Won't work otherwise. Haven't quite figured the plan yet that turns the blocks that way but managed. Thinking games must be a real thing these days. Guessing US can use all the brain power it can. Thanks GOTD.

I'm having a problem opening Circus Pomché. It did work well after installing and playing, but the second visit to open it failed. In addition, by following the "Comments" advice, it continues to show this message:
"CircusPomche.exe - System Error. The program can't start because Utils.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".
Before downloading again,I've halted the Norton firewall and restarted Windows.(Win7 X 64 Professionl, 64-Bit). Would someone familiar with this problem give me some help, please? Thank you.
P.S. This game is great. I like its challenges: hand-to-eye coordination, viewing and figuring out each model's layout and being able to duplicate it. Once each model is completed, I feel victorious and accomplished at playing Circus Pomché after initially thinking that it was too difficult. Bash Games and Giveawayoftheday staffs, thanks very much for such a fun gift.

Nice game. Had some graphic artifacts on XP SP3, but never during the game itself. I think I did miss some details however regarding how the different color blocks behave, however was still able to finish through Level 15. Have to agree that the water drop interludes were a little annoying. The game play was very nice with smooth movements, and I had no problem with the speed of the screen spinning.

Adding the gold coins in the Part II did nothing for me, and I would rather another 10-20 levels in Part I then progress to other obstacles. I can also feel where the game play is going with a very binary solution required on some of these (think Towers of Hanoi).

Fun game for sure. Thanks!

@61 reply moderator -
been downloasing giveaway
for along time - your comment about
wrapper doesn't make sense -
received no threats from wrapper
on all other programs downloaded
from gotd! Received threats from
3 gotd and hundreds of no threats
from gotd! Unless you've changed wrapper?

...................Moderator comment........................

What the user was saying (I think) was that the giveaway wrapper could have set of AVG as this is the part that contains the code to phone home. If AVG has recently been updated it may have read the wrapper as the problem. (which in reality it isn't becasue it's the job of the wrapper to phone home to ensure the game activates. The user that mentions this tested everything once it had been installed and I've also tested the installed game and it comes up clean on all counts. Only the zip file which contains the wrapped setup and activation module gave a warning.

.......................Moderator comment..................

Check inside the installed games folder to see if the Utils.dll library file is missing. It may have become corrupted somehow, but if you've reinstalled it I don't see how that would be the problem.

It may be that the game is conflicting with one of your other programs that are running in the background. Many of these aren't required to run the game. you could use Game booster which turns off all those that are uecessary. The great thing about Game booster is that once you're done playing a click of a button returns your computer to it's normal state. Alternatively you could try turning off programs one at a time to see if this is so. That's a time consuming job, but personally I think the game is worth it.

I'd post this problem in the forums as well. I'll start a thread specifically for this. So long as you still have the game installed we might find someone in the community who may be able to help. GMMan is one that may have advice and he's usually still around at this time, wheras most of the community have been and gone.

Thank y'all bunches! I've never seen a game like this. Installed on Win 7 home 64 with no problem at all.
The room rotation reminds m a bit of Gem Towers, a treasure from early days of GGOTD, but the flipping part is all new to me. I have no real depth perception, so it's stretching my synapses for the better.

Truly 'preciate the brain game, Bash & GGAOTD!
And WRabbit, the thoroughness of your presentations have always humbled me. You've let me feel safe in stepping into all sorts of new realms, and I'm a grateful old gal.

Hate to be a whiner, but this one doesn't work for me. My cursor doesn't display but about 30% of the time and then only when the mouse is moved when a flickering image will appear. Annoying but worked until the first raindrop task appeared. Kind of hard to hit raindrops with no visible cursor. Finally, gave up.

Installed fine, twice. No warnings, etc. Running Panda Internet Security on Windows 7 64 bit with dual monitors and up to date Nvidia drivers, AFAIK. Whiterabbit, your clue to run dxdia on Windows 7 doesn't work for me.

However, it also opened 10 trash windows in my browser after installation.

The game only opens one window after activation. The other windows must have been due to something else you were doing. If what you say was true we would have got a lot of complaints from the community.

Very interesting game! No issues installing or running the program using 64-bit Win 7. NOD32 did not detect any malware, either.

From the screenshots, I thought it was going to be similar to Cubis but I was pleasantly surprised ti find that it is a rather unique puzzle game.

The only things that I would like to see changed have been mentioned by others:
A setting for changing the rotational speed
An untimed option

A kids mode with additional simple puzzles would also be really nice

Thanks to GGOTD and Bash Games for the game and WhiteRabbit for all of you hard work and research.

Thanks for the advice #58...it worked great. AVG when you click "ignore" to try and install the game still will not allow you to install the game. It is trying to protect you i guess.
So i opened the AVG user interface - clicked on tools (it is at the top left - clicked on advanced options (as you suggested) then scrolled to almost the bottom of the options list and clicked on "temporarily disable anti-virus protection"...then AVG asks how long i wanted to disable the protection - i chose 10 minutes. From there the game installed to C:games...incidentally, i scanned the extracted games folder with AVG and everything is clean. You certainly seem correct that it is just the GOTD wrapper phone home process.
the game plays nice however it is odd to have boxes sitting on the side of boxes. Zero gravity?
Thanks again Whitrabbit.

Downloading took a chunk of time, the setup.exe was a surprise because it just put all the files in a folder instead of doing the "install" I have come to expect. Started just fine.

Problem comes at the very end of the first game. When the final block moves into place, the game freezes up and I get a run-time error. I tried it a number of times, each time approaching the final solution with different combinations and it freezes at the same point, halfway through the rotation of the final block. I don't have a clue how to address solving the problem.

The game looks interesting and like it could be fun. I appreciate the opportunity even if it doesn't work this time.

This is a real brain twister. I love games that make you think. NTM, you can make your head spin when you make the board spin. I like the music.

I use MSE so I got no virus warnings. Besides, I have been here since Dec of 2006 so I know GGOTD has never had a virus.

I do have one suggestion. Maybe, it's because I had one of my headaches this morning so I am not feeling well but the board and blocks itself seem to be quite dark at times. It's hard to see how they are bunched up at times. Maybe add a lighting effect mode.

Thanks GGOTD and Bash Games for the opportunity to paly this fun little gem. You keep up the good work too, Wrascally Wabbit. And hug the kids for me. :)

Game's amusing. It's nice to see something fresh on GGOTD. It's also nice that this game runs without much problems on my ancient graphic card.

This game is built with the Ogre3D engine, which means much of the engine code is open source. I see that pretty much all of the game data is in easily modifiable state. The only thing that'll be hard to change is the game logic itself.

Messing with the settings: This game does not have any in-game settings save for mute, but pretty much everything's configurable within Games\CircusPomche\Media\Settings\settings.xml. So, a list of things that you can have fun with changing:

Window:
size: Screen resolution. Bu default it's 1024,768, but it's best if you change it to your display's native resolution. The game works fine on 1680,1050 on my old MX440 graphic card.
fullscreen: Does what it says. Change to 0 to play windowed.
showOScursor: Use your default cursor.

General:
RealTimeWidgetControl: Allows you to customize your interface. Set to 1, and then just drag and drop game widgets to where you want them to be. Doesn't work for the solution viewport, though.

Apparently there's an editor mode and frame counter. I'll try to find them.

Issues: I've noticed that the graphics seems to duplicate and various mesh faces goes black in the shadow, but that's probably just my graphic card.

Well this is interesting....i (for some odd reason) have saved many giveawayoftheday and game.giveawayoftheday setup files. I just ran a full scan with AVG since i also got the warning about Circus Pomche containing the backdoor.hupigon5 trojan horse.
Here are the results...according to AVG not only does Circus Pomche contain BackDoor.Hupigon5 but - Egyptoid and Disk Analyzer Pro and Sound Editor Pro and Wav to Mp3 setup files are all also infected with the trojan horse BackDoor.Hupigon5
All of these setup files are either from give away of the day or game giveaway of the day and fairly recent.
Perhaps the giveaway of the day crew can contact AVG and find out what is going on as something seems amiss here.
I also ran Malwarebytes and Moosoft's the cleaner and they came up clean....guess i'll try super antispyware next.
Can't be too careful y'know.
Anyhow, thanks for the game Whiterabbit and for all that you do for us.
^_^

...............................Moderator comment.........................

as was pointed out above, it's the wrapper that's almost certainly causing this to throw up the warning.

Consider that the game giveaway has never in it's five years given away a game with malware and that antimalware programs are not infallible, there's your answer. :)

After reading how some had experienced trojan warnings, I first scanned the download with my Microsoft Security Essentials, and then even went online to Trend Micro's Housecall (which has several times discovered media codec trojans that have been dropped in my AppData folder, whilst watching streaming videos on You Tube - Microsoft Security Essentials did NOT react to these at all, and yet they wreaked havoc on my PC, which is why I had to scan with Housecall), and the download was declared totally free from threats.

So I went ahead and installed cleanly on my fully updated Vista Home Premium 32bit, with separate graphics card, also fully updated.

The game loaded fine, but as I was going through the tutorial, I reached around level 6 or 7, and all of a sudden it was just total blackout! No warning, no bleeps, no clicks, no blue screen... my PC just shut down in a split second! And I mean total shutdown -- not even so much as the normal power down you can hear when the power supply drones down -- nothing... as though it had been closed down for hours! The only time I've experienced anything like it is in a power cut.

I can see no-one else has experienced it today... I'm a little dubious about trying again...

Well I didn't adequately test my process for running this in 1024. When I tested, I had the resolution set to 1024x600, but I hadn't switched it so that it wouldn't change to 1024x758. Apparently when I ran the program it changed to the higher resolution.

So, to get it running you will need to set up your netbook so it will run 1024x768. Just google 1024x768 on a netbook or something similar to get instructions.

I too have the AVG problem. I'm running Win7 x64. I figured out how to make an exception for AVG but Windows still won't let me open it. I might try it on an older computer where AVG hasn't been updated yet. I really want to try this game.

This is a little different and I enjoy it. It worked fine on my desktop computer, but I couldn't get it to work on my netbook. I got a message saying something like it that my screen resolution (1024x600) was too small. I am able to run screen compression so I am able to "squeeze the screen" so that it will run in 1024x768 resolution squeezed into 1024x600 so this was not a problem for me but I wanted to be able to run in 1024x600. Here is how you can make that work:

First you have to get it installed on the netbook. This can be done by changing your resolution to 1024x768 (if you know how to do that on a 1024x600 screen) or by coping the program file from a computer where you have it working to the netbook (after installation the program is portable). Then you have to edit the file mentioned by ihatewaterdrops, #13 above, when they tell have to make it run in a window. If you have trouble finding it search the installation folder for "setting.xml". Once you find the file, make a copy of it in case anything goes wrong. Then right click on it and select edit. Near the top you will find a line that says Size=1280x768. Change 1280x768 to 1024x600. That should do it.

This is a lovely, elegant, peaceful, thoughtful and brain stimulating game. I'm only at level eight. It took me a while to get past level 7 until I rotated the view (by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen) and then realized where I was going wrong. I'm looking forward to spending more time with this.

My only quibble is that only one person can play it at a time - it would have been nice to enable separate save points for multiple players. There are ways around this, of course, but perhaps Bash will consider adding this feature in a later version.

I recommend this for all the puzzlers out there.

Very clever game. There are games more or less similar to this, but this is the first I can recall in 3D. Even the music is tolerable, which is unusual.

this looks as if it's a sweet game. i installed it on my 10" acer running WinXP SP3. when i try to run it, i get the message "Your monitor does not support the minimum resolution." but i haven't been able to find any information about display requirements (this seems to be true for most games unfortunately). does anyone know what the minimum resolution is? my machine supports up to 1200 x 600 natively, and can emulate 1200 x 768. thanks for any advice about this!

Fantastic download time! The download alternates between less then 20 KB/s to 45 KB/s.
My DSL connection is over 6000 KB/s.
Within 20 Minutes I downloaded 30% of the ZIP file.
I think it's time for a little sleep now :-)

Nice game, just finished part 1 till lvl 15. No problems so far.

Dislike:
- the window of the solution is me too big within the screen. Especially with the higher levels it is anoying.
- From part 2, you have to play with time. And there is no option to choose not to. So I uninstalled the game

It can be very useful to let everyone know when you get a Trojan or virus warning. However AVG is rubbish (and not just because it reports false Trojans). So would people using AVG please stop posting their results. Not only do you end up causing unnecessary panic, but you are also advertising that you use a sub standard virus protector, which, on an open forum (like this one), can be read by anyone - that is never an intelligent act.

Got the AVG Trojan warnings. Clicked Ignore. Install fails with "You don't have needed permissions, or path is wrong, etc., etc." Never had this problem with a GGOTD game before. Running XP Pro SP3.
