It took me until today until I finished it. I enjoyed the game. I'd agree there's room for a bit more - the Mayan puzzle seemed like a good idea.

Thanks much :-)

I have installed the game and after finally finding out how it works (including the little x to close certain windows) life flows easier.

I have not played hidden object games as I always lost interest. With this one I actually got to the end, yay :D

Pluses:
- good hints for beginners, thank you.
- mixing different logic games. Though the pipe/ ball etc other ones I was familiar with and I found a bit childish they were still fun and a good ego boost considering the time it took me to learn the hidden object part.
- liked the ending. Very cute.
- am more observant in real life (if only it would last lol)

I would say though that to improve the game:
- it should work in different resolutions (just adapt to the screen size even if it keeps the same image size rathen than the black screen of death)
- Make it clear what the purple haze should do (still have no clue)
- have a less linear progression. Still get to do everything (checksheets?) just have some options. That way the game could also last a bit longer.
- editable free play levels

I have been playing this game quite a bit and have some feedback. It doesn't appear to have a back button, so if you miss something, you have to start the whole game over. Also, there is a glitch in my game, where I collect the stones required to repair the shield, but when I get to the part where I need to repair it the stones are gone and I can no longer play. I will uninstall this game. I enjoyed the playing, but it was frustrating at the same time. I would like to uninstall the game, but there is no uninstall feature.

I too enjoy these types of games; hidden object where you need to find objects in order to solve different problems. At first glance this game, with it's theme, looks like it will be fun. My wife is even better at these games than I.

But, from the outset it is evident that everything needs to be done in a certain order, unlike many other games of it's type. That I could live with. But as you progress you realize that there are times when you have done everything you can do and stuck wondering what the next move is, while in actuality the game is progressing, but you are stuck until the game is good and ready to let you advance. That I cannot live with. I can understand the pauses in some circumstances, but it slows the game down and is aggravating and frustrating.

But my biggest sticking point is when you are supposed to be replacing artifacts to their rightful place that you've already collected from the previous session, but for some reason the game has remembered to give you everything, except a couple items. When this happens you are stuck, stuck, stuck and the only solution is to start a new game. You are stuck; you can't go back to the previous session the way the game is saved - you can only exit. And even if you get back in there is no way to go to a specific session, so you must start a new game.

So, I created a new character and started from the beginning and sure enough this time it worked just the way it was supposed to.

I like the game and the theme in general, but too many other problems for me to give it a thumbs up.

I love this, but it was way too short. Had it done in a couple of hours. The storyline, graphics were good. The hidden object portion was not too easy and the puzzles were good too. Wish we could have gone to a few more countries to complete the game. Was so disappointed when I completed it in one day instead of one week.

While my son (6 years old) was playing this game on easy mode he came to a point there he had to gather items from the top of a Mayan pyramid the items included arrows and stones. Then he found himself back in India at the jewelers house where he repaired a diadem earlier. It wanted him to put things back but the arrows and stones have disappeared from his inventory. and he cannot progress further. I tried going to the site and using their support request but their captcha system is busted and I cannot submit the request.

Sorry for the late review....tis the season!

The story line was great, it could have been longer...there were so many ways to add on to this line - sort of like Gina was saying above.

The "clicking area" needs to be fine-tuned, as many have mentioned.

The beginning needs a little bit more tutorial. I don't like reading hints or walkthroughs, but I need to know the mechanics of the game and where the author is coming from.

Again, like others said, the English translation was ok...but could have been better. I understood everything that was said, but some people are really grammar police.

Overall, I enjoyed the game and thank you for letting me try it out.

And to GGotD and Stephen - Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and I am looking forward to another great year!!

Some further notes, now I'm on my second time around (!). Everything worked perfectly this time, so I don't know what happened first time around: sorry!

The HOG scenes and pictures are identical each time; only the objects you need to find are different. If you have an eidetic visual memory, replayability is low!

That said, in some scenes (like Ancient India), the list is the same: but it's a BIG list; and it's nearly as much fun when played like that as a memory test, if you will, as one the first HOG-style pass. Your mileage may vary.

I agree that the HINT bar seems to take forever to refill. Perhaps we've all been spoiled by other HOG games where the HINT button seems fast and never-ending?

I also agree that the game is too short: I want more! And yes, I do know how long these things take to devise and produce, but the game (especially with the PDF walkthrough which seems to wink at you every five minutes, or when you're stuck!) really doesn't take much real time to complete. And no, I haven't tried it on 'difficult' mode yet.

I do however love HOGs with added puzzle and/or 'adventure' style elements. "Mystery of Mortlake Mansion" is a favourite, for example; and "Chronoclasm Chronicles" has joined that list for sure. The storyline is good, the puzzles and mini-games are maybe a tad on the easy side (for me, anyway) BUT it's MUCH better that way than insanely hard puzzles: like the infamous 'microbes' mini-game (a.k.a. Ataxx) in "The 7th Guest," for those of you who remember that innovative DOS classic? The ONLY way to win it is to find an online Ataxx-playing program, then use ITS moves in the 'microbes' game.

But I digress (as usual!).

Sincere thanks to Puppet Life for this worthy and excellent addition to the 'HOG-plus-puzzle-adventure' game catalogue.

NOTE TO DEVELOPERS IN GENERAL: I would be happy to proof-read the English text for your games for a small fee. I do technical writing myself, so I am used to polishing text: please get in touch if interested. (Hopefully this will reduce the number of otherwise good games spoiled only by their "Eengleeski".)

PS: Did anyone else spot that on the background to the Credits, the red Vintage Radio at the bottom right is flipped right-to-left, so the text on it is 'mirrored?' Puppet Life: a black mark to you! Please fix this, as it is a silly distraction which I'm sure you can easily correct.

OK: I loved this game, despite the usual 'clunky' English in places. MANY thanks to the developers.

My only gripe is that I got fairly near the end first time through, but the Stones and Arrows I'd just gathered were not in my Inventory when I got on to the next stage, where I was supposed to use them. I haven't yet had time to play back to there to see whether or not that's a bug; or even just the game not saving itself properly.

To batsdude: I feel the same way about match-three games as you do about HOGs! So please, cut us HOG fans a bit of slack today, given the enormous number of match-three games given away here compared to the number of HOGs.

To people having trouble clicking things: when playing in a window (my preference), the cursor can be VERY sensitive when trying to pick up or use objects.. Try full screen mode if you're totally unable to do something: where there are a larger number of physical pixels per object. ;)

To everyone having trouble playing the game: play in Chrono-Tourist mode, DO read the first few comments which pop up, and if it looks like you're stuck, look around the screen for something with 'the stars' on it. If that still doesn't work: click HINT and it will highlight whatever it is that you need to do, or pick up. Finally, if you're TOTALLY stuck, the PDF hint book will show you what you've done wrong.

Please folks: don't post game spoilers in here, it really IS all in the PDF hint book for those who can't or don't figure it out. Admittedly it doesn't contain solutions to all the mini-games, but that's fine by me.

Overall an 8 out of 10, would be more if I hadn't had the 'disappearing objects' glitch while playing.

Hi folks,

My 2nd post, I really want to play this game so bad, because of the Graphics and Storyline, but like everyone has already said you get Stuck in a Level and you have No Clue how to move forward.

I am currently stuck where the Stupid Musketeer is Wounded and Bleeding. I have tried everything to get hsi wound cleaned but the Dumb Game would Not allow it ... Sporadic as hell. I was so Frustrated, I took the Dagger that I found and trying to Finish the Stupid Musketeer ... so I can Move on in the Level ...

Anyone has any Hints ... will be checking back here ... before I pull out all of my hair.

If the Purpose of the Developer is to make Your Life Misreable ... well they have Suceeded.

Amen and Amen!

G!:)

I found the game fun and a bit challenging. I sat there wondering what to do at the beginning but once I found the first clue I was fine. There is a walkthrough that comes with the installation but I didn't use it. Other than the "I thought I clicked that" moments (which everyone else has seemed to find)the only other problem I found was in the ancient India - the scene where you drain the pond and look for mayan artifacts, I had to stop in the middle due to a family "crisis" (hungry daughter and pets), but when I went back, instead of saving with a few items left to find, I was back at the beginning. Oh well. I loved the game in general, just wish it was longer.

I found this game to be very frustrating.
Right from the start it was unclear what I had to do.
After repeated clicking on the closet and wardrobe I was moving the curser everywhere and the spot where the keys were did not become activated. I had similar issues with the most other scenes. When I gave in and used the hints it just pointed me at an object that I had already been exploring when I actually needed to go somewhere else first.
There were also times in the hidden object sceneses that I clicked on an object multiple times but it didn't work but when I clicked the hint button the same object came was highlighted.
I doubt I'll bother finishing this.

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem as #9 - valenteyn, #36 - g, #52 - chrisrobt. #57 - corylea. So I DID read ALL the comments before posting. Downloaded and installed without any problems on Win7. My drivers are up to date, all is updated. I tried in compatibility mode to no avail. It says the system requirements for this game is XP or higher so why then should we have to switch the compatibility mode? I don't get it! It looks like a great game but sadly I can't play at the moment unless someone comes up with a solution.

Any idea Puppet Life? Wouldn't be nice if they showed up to help out in these situations? This is aggravating enough and time consuming to not want to bother with any more downloads. That is NOT a plus!!!

I HAVE also read the FAQ section but nothing applies to this issue. I have like 2 programs running in the background so that wouldn't be it. (New laptop and don't want to overload it). Will there be a thread to this game in the Forum with maybe potential help in the future?

I think that after wasting so much time, I will just uninstall and be done with it. It's not appealing when you read that the whole game was done in 2 hours in hard mode and a 215MB download to top it all off.

Thanks GGOTD and Whiterabbit for everything. Have a nice evening/night everyone. :-)

Happy Holidays All!!
I played this Hidden Object game and found it to be very nice. I agree with what many others have said about it being beautiful, interesting and well done. Seems I have a little more patience than some as I managed to figure out the whole game in one sitting with very little help from the hints. There were a few times when I wasn't sure what to do and just clicked around until I figured it out. My only negative comment would be that the game was not long enough. It seems like there is plenty of room to add more adventure to this game. I agree that some of the short mini-games can be of other "types" like jigsaw puzzles or move the boxes around to create a finished picture. I would need to play the game again to find any specific errors. Agree with others in regard to wider clicking radius. Also, that cobblestone was really hard to find to hit the barrel with. Thanks so much for sharing this game with us. :)

Random thoughts: HOG/adventure developers like to make this game type that can be frustrating for newbies. It's a type that leans more toward puzzle-adventure gamers, where the HOG aspects are more incidental. The problem is: if you're not used to solving these types of adventure puzzles, you can struggle mightily. That's one of the problems with this approach. Most puzzle gamers fall into the old catch-22 that jobseekers often run into: to get a job you need experience, but to get the experience, you need a job. So unless you've not only played, but mastered a few of the legion of puzzle-adventures spawned by Myst and any predecessors it may have had, you're probably not going to have all the finely honed skills for a game of this type.
Fortunately, the developer has included a walk through. To me, it seems almost inevitable that the vast majority of game players will have to consult it to be able to navigate this game to any extent. In fact, maybe it's just me, but I can't see how you could divine some of these answers without the "inside information" in the walkthrough. At least one's included.
I do agree that the hint is waaaaaaaayyyy too long to recharge. I only played it on the easy setting when it's supposed to be fairly quick. In the normal setting it must be interminable. The semi-animated storyboards between the levels are interesting. Probably account for the game's relatively large size. The combination of music that comes and goes with sound effects is an interesting change. I didn't find the clicking to be overly precise as others said, though I was using the custom cursor. Using a standard cursor might give that kind of problem.
I can't make much headway in this game, because the interior locations are too dark for my antiquated, on it's last legs, monitor. But I'll keep it until I can get another one fixed. For 9.99, this would seem to be a good way to start on this type of game. Even if it isn't the first one I've tried. lol. Thanks everybody involved!

Note to WR: while we're always gratified that you set such high standards for yourself, we'd definitely disagree about how well you've been doing on this page lately. I'm sure we'd assess a significantly higher value to your contributions. If you're tired, then rest. We'll muddle through while you recharge your batteries.

[Windows7 - 64bit] Downloaded and installed fine, but I can't "play" the game. Checked the FAQ - those are not my problems. Tried "Compatibility Mode" - no help.

I get the phone call, go to look for Uncle's "stuff" - HINT button "sparkles" the cupboard up/right - I click (tried both right and left buttons) but nothing happens. I can't get any further than that. Pity. The game looks like it would be interesting.

A very Merry/Happy to you, WR. Thanks to GGotd, as always (even though this one doesn't work for me). I look forward to more fun here in 2013.

I first want to say that I liked the story line of this game, but I found that some of the objects were unresponsive until I clicked "Hint" and only then did they yield to the cursor.

In spite of those bumps I finished the game.

I later decided to play it again, to see if the game play was any smoother the second time around, only I found the opposite was true.
This time, once I got to the section where you help the musketeer, nothing was responsive to the cursor - there was no way to progress - I had to end the game.

I have downloaded many excellent games here, (thank you, GGOTD!) and frankly, I don't need the aggravation of playing one that's buggy. I think I'm going to pass on this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game! The graphics were well done, as was the story line. (Loved the Russian Blue cat in the apartment!)
My one and only complaint is that the game wasn't long enough.

I had no glitches whatsoever.

Nice little game, with the kind of puzzles I like.
{the kind I'm able to solve!)
But then all of a sudden it was all over.
'Little' discribes it all.
The back-story shows holes big enough for Hannibal to drive his elephants trough, so I guess this is a shortened Giveaway version of the game, or maybe the developer chose to keep it short and dropped a couple of chapters altogether, who knows????
The fact that we must assemble a headphone/translator in the beginning of the game and told we can not use it yet, increases my suspicion, for the game ends without using it once! At the last level it just suddenly disappears of it's own accord.

The Unblinking Eye must be put on the exact spot to interact and it's often very hard (and annoying) to find that spot again.

So, all in all, a nice game, which could be improved by a better cursor and at least twice the number of levels.

I really like the kind of game you have to use your head to play. WOW I am playing the gentle level. I can't imagine playing the harder level. ( I like using my head, just not over board LOL). Thank you Bear for telling me about some hints in one of the folders. I don't care to use a walk thru. I'm sure I am just missing something but when I find the soldier my iphone says I should have found a tissue. I have everything else but can't seem to find this item. I will check out the FAQ as Stephen suggested too. Thank you developers for trusting us with a fantastic game and GGOD thank you too. Love checking out this site each weekend.

I thought this game looked interesting enough to give it a try, and since I hadn't met this particular developer before, I downloaded it. The time wasn't unreasonable for a game of this size - although I have to admit that my copy was acquired a while after my husband's, and arrived considerably faster.

Set up (Windows 7, 64-bit, laptop) was quick and straightforward. I don't create a shortcut, where needed, until I've tried the game to see whether it will be staying. When I do, I just right-click the "start" icon and select "Send to desktop / make shortcut". From there I can easily move it into the folder where I keep them.

I'm not too keen on the comic book style for telling the story, but it's clear enough, and once into the game the graphics look much better. The music is varied and acceptable. The game itself, as far as I've gone, is playable, and if you get stuck looking for a particular item, the Help button will give you a clue or two. At times I found the finding a bit slow - which is very unusual for me! - but I suspect I wasn't on precisely the right place.

It's quite quick to escape from the game once you've had enough and need to get on with something else. Some games are so anxious to be absolutely, certainly, definitely sure that you know what you're doing that you could have played another two levels before you can get out into the outside world again. So that's a plus here.

Overall, I'd say that it looks like a game I'll keep for whiling away a tea-break or two, and play in shortish sessions. It probably won't become a real favourite, but it's certainly worth taking a look at. And it will make me more interested in trying out the company's next effort - which, after all, is what GGOTD is all about!

So thanks once again to GGOTD and the inestimable Whabbit for the help and the fun you give us. A very Merry Christmas - if applicable, as the PC-types will have us say - to you all!

I DID go to the forums before posting ... no one there. Recently someone posted about the walkthru; as noted, I checked there first and could not resolve the problem. Based on all the issues other posters seem to be having, I think it's likely a glitch. A reintstall of the game did not solve it, either. Have a great holiday and thanks for all the games!

A rather short game. Interesting but not polished. Triggering the eye took a lot of time trying to find the right spot. The game also takes a bit to transition. Long enough that you aren't sure if you completed the task or locked up the game.

Downloaded the game, having liked and previously installed other HOG games, clicked to play and got large, colorful, 8-bit-looking blocks across the screen. Saw two torsos on the right side of the screen and nothing else. Very disappointed in today's game. Btw, I did read FAQ in the 1st post but nothing resembled my issue and all my drivers are up to date, I have a WIN XP Pro tablet pc. There have been a few other HOG games that i've had this issue with that I just ended up deleting.

I didn't read all the comments but I did notice someone asking how to get past that closet door.

I found that there is a walkthrough PDF in the game folder. That helps you get started on that part.

the game works fine for me but I do have to play full screen. If I don't turn off the high-dpi-scaling, the windowed version is too tall and I can't get to the menu button. If I turn off the high-dpi-scaling, the window is too small. I can't win!

It's still a keeper!

Uninstalled. I tried it in both levels of difficulty and the chair stuffing just won't budge. Too bad...looked like a neat little game. Thanks anyway! :)

Ugh. I just got to the study, got the key and plan from the safe, spilled wine on the plan and then couldn't figure out what to do. According to the walkthru, you should be able to get some stuffing from the chair to blot the wine, but I can't get any stuffing. I've tried getting stuffing at different times, but it never "lights up" and allows me to take any. Therefore, I'm stuck.

The majority of the community will have already visited todays game giveaway page. It would be better if you post a request for help over in the forums. I've created a thread specifically for this game. You can find it via the following link:

Took me just 2 hours to play the whole game Hard Mode. Not to bad have to agree some previous statements:
1) Very nice Graphics
2) Hard mode pixel hunter
3) With getting to France and the Musketeer looking for the heavy object.
4) After the sequence with the Musketeer game kind of goes lame.
5) Needs more instruction at beginning of game or background.
Not a bad little game to pass the time once you figure it out.
Thanks

I've looked at WR's FAQs, but they are generic and don't help. I get the eye/arrow icon, but cannot open anything. I did empty my browser, deleted the game and re installed it, but no change. Guess I have to pass on this game (unless someone has a specific fix)

hi and happy holidays to all here at ggotd, especially to you whiterabbit for all that you do here, even when you are in pain or blurry with the drugs you must take (i too have similar problems)...perhaps i should have started this with spoiler alert, but to all that are having trouble getting the game started after the phone call, it is in the order that you do things that is important here...i too was having trouble getting anything to open when i clicked but by luck i clicked on the key holder next to the closet door, which gave me a key, which opened the closet, which gave me a box and then i was able to click on the shelves and have them open and progess in the game...all in all i would say it is a fairly good game, i haven't gone very far yet, i wanted to come back here and let others know how to get going, i am looking forward to seeing what comes next here...sorry this is such a late posting and i do hope those that were having trouble can now get started...once again happy holidays to all.

Very nice game, good graphics. I play alot of these hidden object games and while this one is nice to look at, I finished this game in 2 hours, very short time considering other games out there, but was a welcome diversion fro the xmas stress. All in all a thumbs up, and wish GAOTD a very merry christmas.

When I opened the GCD filethat the read.me says is necessary for correct installation and activation the file is in another language. I tried to open the file thru the web but got an error message so I had to use my wordpad.

..........................Moderator comment...................

Hi Carole, you do not need to open or even click on the setup.gcd file. It's there as a security measure. You have to use the orange setup file; (the orange icon with the key symbol on it). Hope this helps

Not a bad little time waster, though short. I played in the harder mode and I found it to be a bit of a 'pixel hunter' hunter at times. I also found it annoying that I had to click the actual dialogue to dismiss it before other things happened. Other than that it's one of the better games in recent giveaways.

I checked the FAQ, but I'm not getting any of the problems listed. As I said before, when I double-click 'cc.exe' NOTHING happens
I get an hourglass for less than a second, & that's it. There's nothing new running, no blank screen, no missing cursor, no error message, nothing.
I didn't see anything in the troubleshooting that would help me with my issue.

....................Moderator comment...................

Hell Melanie, have you checked your event logs to see if there are any error messages that relate to the game? You could also try installing the demo available from big Fish (the link from the developers site takes you to Big Fish and see if that works. If it does there's something conflicting with the giveaway version and your computer. Try turning off background programs one at a time to see if you can find any that may be causing the conflict. Also try re downloading and reinstalling the game (Delete the installed folder first).

Whiterabbit, I SAID that I read that FAQ.

It lists the following:

Problems downloading or activating -- Not having those.

Black screen -- Nope, not happening.

Data Execution Prevention -- Haven't been asked to turn this off.

Unzipping the downloaded file -- I teach other people how to unzip stuff. Trust me, I know how. :-)

The file is in use by another process -- Not getting this error message.

Cursor disappears or isn't present -- Not a problem.

Memory Access Violation -- Not getting this error message.

I realize that it's the holiday, and you have things to do, so I understand if you don't want to spend the time and energy to track down this problem. Please, do go enjoy your Christmas; this game is not that important! But I'm not the only one having this problem, and the FAQ does NOT help. I think perhaps the game developer needs to be told that several of us are having this problem.

Hi Corylea, Yes you are right. I hope that the developer bothers to visit this comments section. its a shame most never seem to make an appearance. I'm sure more community members would show interest if they did.

I obviously didn't read your initial post fully. When I finally managed to get o site there were over 50 comments to moderate. I just posted a standard message to anyone that appeared to be having problems so that I could zip through the comments as quickly as possible. It still took me nearly 2 hours to work through all 50+ comments.

It's not that I don't want to help; I'm just really exhausted at the moment. I've been put on yet more drugs and they are taking their toll on my system. I'm sleeping the better part of every day (over 16 hours) and hardly play any of my games at the moment. I've still to install the majority of the games i purchased in Steams Thanksgiving sale from a month ago.

After completing the first HO task, gathering the souvenirs, the game does nothing. According to the w/t, there should be a video for the flight to France but it appears that the game does not recognize this task is complete - it is just stuck.

I had to use task manager to end it.

.....................Moderator comment...................

Hi Linda, it could be that you don't have the correct software to play the video.

I'm having the same problem as #9. The game installed and started up fine, and it isn't giving me any error messages; it's just that after the phone call ends, clicking on things only gives me information. It's clear that I'm supposed to be able to DO something after the phone call ends, but I can't.

I read the FAQ that WhiteRabbit pointed #9 to, but I'm not having any of the problems on that list; the game installed fine, the cursor is present, and all that. It just doesn't DO anything.

I'm using XP Pro.

I got seriously stuck early on, in France with the musketeer. Slight spoilers if you want to figure this out on your own, but I doubt you will.

After getting the translator working, she says she needs to wash and bandage the musketeer. I got the bandages, "salts of hartshorn," and ladle, but need to get water. There's a barrel with some wedges in it, and she says she needs "something heavy" to drive the wedges. The musketeer is surrounded by weapons like polearms, which should all be heavy enough. There's a hammer right by his foot. There are lots of things that should be heavy. But none of them are clickable. If you click the "hint" button in the first area, near the stage, it highlights the Musketeer. If you go to the Musketeer scene and click the hint button, nothing happens (but it doesn't use up your hint). If you zoom in on the barrels and click for a hint, it highlights one of the wedges and says you need to find something heavy.

As it turns out from the walkthrough, one of the cobblestones happens to be interactive and you can pick it up and use it to drive the wedges. For one, this is not a reasonable puzzle, since there's a host of "heavy" things that should be useable. For another, the hint IS USELESS.

To the gamegiveaway community. Firstly I'd like to thank all of you who've bothered to post comments this year. They have been much appreciated. To all who've sent Christmas wishes, back at you. :)

Please excuse my late moderation. We were out all day Christmas shopping. Got back about 3 hours ago and crashed out. I won't bother finishing the review, which I'd intended to do when I returned.
