Rating: 18% good and 82% bad. This game has the worst rating of all GGOTD games in the history! Recall that two days ago, DoubleGames / FreeGames4Rest has achieved the worst game record with the rating of 22% bad, and they have beaten their own record in only two days! Finally, there's this rating of below 20% good. I can't wait to see the next worst record -below 10% good!- from DoubleGames / FreeGames4Rest. It is going to come soon!

All GGOTD visitors, I invited you to give bad rates for all of DoubleGames / FreeGames4Rest games. Let's make this world worst record into below 10% good!

I am going to give DoubleGames / FreeGames4Rest a lot of bad rating until they increases their games quality drastically.

OMG! This has to be the most boring game I have every seen. Even butterfly hunter took me a couple of days of play to delete. This one was gone after about two minutes of play.

Does anyone know how to turn off the loud sucking noises this "game" makes?

By the way, those of you asking for word games--please be more specific. DumbleGames makes those too. Let us not forget "Intricate Words" from May 4th, with its stolen image of the Cheshire Cat to match its Carrollian playfulness with the English language.

Did GOTD lose a bet with this company, or what?

@Cheryl McGraw: Why do you bother coming here if you do not "maintain a computer for such services"? And, you actually sound more childish than most of the previous posters.

I guess that, because I am not one to play many games, nor to maintain a computer for such services, I am quite applalled by the negativity I am reading today. Many poeple have complained about being editied out in the past for being negative, but, my freinds, here it is, today, un-edited. Not edited. All of the bitter and childish things being said in so many ways. Even with supposed politeness to cover the childishness of it all. And with venom toward people who are not exactly like you, who do not like the same things, do not, even, perhaps, take games quite so seriously as a funtion of the computer!

I am sorry for those who were careless enough to not notice that today's game, while offered through freegames4rest was only a 15 day trial period, not freeware. A demo. Today's game is free from GGOTD, albeit with limitations...not time limitations, though. As for the game being 'very stupid', perhpas Ladybuggy (#21) should consider using her computer for something other than entertainment.

Aslo, I have come to respect WhiteRabbit's take on things, but, I have to say, having checked in to some of the freeware games offered, I think the quality is pretyy poor. Worse than this. You may be right about the price, maybe. $3 to$5, maybe?

It seems the latest con trick.
Belgian Dude, you cannot believe many sites now when they refer to software as being "Freeware".

What they really mean is the software is "Free to download".
If you want to use it for more than 15 days, then it's gonna cost you.

People should boycott sites that mislead in this manner. FreeGames4Rest.com is one such site - no mention anywhere that the software they offer is shareware (In fact everywhere they refer to the games as being "free"). No mention of prices. No mention of file sizes. But download something from their site - and then find out, many "free" games will operate only for 60 minutes before you need to hand over your credit card.

Good morning everyone! ;)

Ok - I think I get it now - people from Double Games and its obvious aliases simply don't read these reviews! I just can't believe that they'd keep returning if they really did read them.

OK - 'Button Up' Review:

This is yet another simple little flash game that can be found for free all over the internet. Surprise, surprise.

Graphics: The bright faces of the cartoon buttons greet you with big smiles when you launch the game. They almost indicate promised enjoyment as they open in window mode, however they've obviously been compressed way too much and when I viewed them at full screen, they're just terrible! Definitely an amateur or budding graphic artist.

The opening screen
also provides you with four choices: 'Play,' 'Scores,' 'Help' and 'Quit.' While I was strongly tempted to pick 'Quit' - I managed to convince myself to click 'Help' instead.

The 'Help' screen is a nauseating yellow, decorated with bright green, a few very basic graphics and black text. *shudders* Surprisingly I didn't go blind but was able to read the instructions, which mainly consisted of descriptions of the buttons; a very brief description of the game objective; (doesn't need anymore!) and very basic gameplay instructions. (Also doesn't need any more!)

The different colored buttons do various things and are worth differing amounts of points. Larger buttons worth more than smaller ones.

Red and pink buttons: Stay away from these unless a red heart shaped button appears, which is an extra life;

Other colored buttons can be collected at your own peril. Some are protective, others speed up and slow down the playing field; others change the sizes of the buttons, therefore increasing or decreasing the points it's worth; some change colors; some cause all the buttons to change direction and some actually decrease your life.

You're practically guaranteed to get booby trapped in the early levels, as some of the buttons keep changing their color. Make sure you read the 'Help' screen to know which color does what.

The Game play is nothing short of painfully simple. No clicking or keyboard presses are even required. Just move your mouse around the playing field, try to intercept all the 'good' or 'helpful' buttons and leave the rest out.

Make sure you intercept the grey buttons, as they bring all the buttons close to a standstill, then you can just go around the field intercepting all the good ones.

Thankfully each level seems to be less than a minute.

The options (what there are!) can be located during the game at the top right hand side of the playing field:

'Help' - toggle for music on/off - there's a box but I can't discern a use for it and an X to close the game down - which appears directly under the Windows x. Go figure!

You still have to use the Windows man/min., feature to force it to go to full screen - but somehow I don't really think this is meant to be played in full screen anyway. Small kids will be happy to play this game in Window mode, as the buttons don't need to travel so far.

As with all these little flash games - the music is just awful! I turned that off as soon as I found the option.

There is NO WAY to save your game! If you need to quit 1/2 way through for some reason - the next time you launch the game, it will again begin at Level 1.

This would be a good children's game, though if their motor skills aren't up to it - they'll just get lost in the faster movements and become frustrated.

There is a very narrow window for recommended age group; perhaps 5 - 8 - anyone older will ignore or uninstall it for its high (em>(and inevitable) boredom factor after a few quick levels.

Charging $14.95 for a game that is offered free everywhere else is dishonest, shady, dishonorable and nefarious.

Points:

-1 - for graphics

- 1 - for tinny music;

-10 for DISHONESTY and SHADY commerce!

0 - for no 'save' programmed in;

0 - for return playability

TOTAL: -12 and a double thumbs down AND UNINSTALLED.

This is the LOWEST score I've ever given anywhere.

Since I'm convinced that Double Games and its aliases never read these reviews, I guess no thanks are even necessary.

Thank you to GOTD, though it's beyond me why they keep featuring this game provider, when its loyal members have clearly stated that they're not welcome. Slava and the team, have you too abandoned reading our reviews?

Was all this part of the original GOTD initiative?
:(

Take care everyone, get out in the sunshine and have a great day!
~ Swan

Wow - it's before noon and already there are 51 thumbs down. Maybe they're break 150 or 200 on this one.

I need a clarification my fellow GGOTDer’s - is DoubleGames and Freegames4rest the same company or are they actually two different companies at the same “suck” level? From the post comments I get confused if they are one in the same company or one in the same as far as quality.

Pro's: None.
Con's: Dull and unimaginative game.

Thumbs down. My advice: don't download, don't try.

(And don't EVER pay for this game, either.)

Child game, perhaps?
I like to let my child play games that have quality in them. This one doesn't have enough quality.

Oh where to begin........

The game downloaded and installed seamlessly (did anyone else find "buttonup.zip" amusing?!? Anyone........?? ) and opens with its title screen accompanied by 3 seconds of song played on a loop that continues without a break in this manner through the whole game and will have you in a psychiatric ward by the end of the day if the mute button is not utilised.

It's amazing to review this game after that of yesterday (by the way I was only able to reply to some comments of yesterday on its page this morning). The games that this developer creates are just Flash files that are incredibly basic and are as such not real games - they just are not. In this one you have a load of spots moving hapazardly around the screen in different colours. With your cursor you have to touch the blue and grey ones and try to avoid the red and pink ones. Touch too many red/pink and you lose. That is it. Heck, I could create one of these Flash files myself this afternoon and distribute it but it would not be a game it would only ever be an interactive Flash file.

I would truly not expect this game to be popular on a webpage, to charge for it is literally laughable. I remember Christmas of 1984 my Mum and Dad bought a BBC Micro Acorn computer and I grew up playing the games most of which that were on tapes on the front of Dad's programming magazines. Those games were genuinely fabulous and the graphics extraordinary, especially considering the computer only had 7 colours to work with. The games were strategic, well thought out, intricate and a joy to play, with very much work having been put into them. Some of Dad's magazines had games to program in yourself and later when I was about 10 Dad taught me how to make albeit simple programs of my own.

I cannot believe that 23 years after that computer was purchased, games have deteriorated in this way. If some of those BBC Micro games were converted and offered on this site I am in no doubt there would be great reviews for them, my brother and I recently got our old Micro up and running actually and they are still as tricky to master today as they were in our gorgeous childhood. I wish Dad was here to experience what we have now in the internet, him and my Mum passed away when we were teenagers, he did so much with that old cream computer and would have had huge ideas with today's versions. My point is that (especially paid-for) games definitely should have progressed but if the ones FreeGames4Rest are offering so many of are anything to go by, the 21st century is nothing compared to what the 1980's held. I realise that there are so many good games out there but this site is now risking losing sight of that with such Flash files and that is a real shame.

I came across this site in March and got some great games and enthusiastically recommended the site to friends.
I liked Age of Japan immensely; what a great game!
I wonder if this site might offer some word games or the kind which one has to find objects and figure out clues to a crime or mystery?
I do realise that this site is to encourage developers and NOT to increase ones' own archive of free software .
However I am extremely grateful to people like White Rabbit for his detailed descriptions of the various games that have shown up here lately.
It certainly helped me avoid the nuisance of downloading and then quickly un-installing...
But thanks GGOTD, I will continue to visit daily and live in hope...

I have this one too - from DoubleDay Freebies - It's called "Funny Buttons". I played it for maybe 5 minutes. I did a search and found it on multiple freebie sites as "Funny Buttons". Here is ONE of the links http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Games/Action_Games/Funny_Buttons.html
and do notice the publisher.

I have kept it not because I like it - but because it's good for entertaining my 4 year old niece who is somewhat mentally challenged. She understands the red ones are bad, but she just enjoys watching the buttons change as she flings the button around and can restart the game by herself. It doesn't require a lot of brain power. It's actually more fun watching her play than it is to play it myself!

I wouldn't have paid for this game 20 years ago - and still wouldn't.

I so agree with #7, Im not greedy, dont expect Halo or something but damn!!! These games really do suck! The funniest part of the description was this part - "The main objective is to get as much points as you can." WOW a game where you have to get as many points as you can, thats a new concept.............NOT!! I have seen flash games from people in school that are more entertaining than this.

Guys, please please don't assume that, just because a game is bad, it must be for young children. Here's the thing: young children don't like crap either, they're just more willing to put up with it.

#25 Not all RPGs have a mature-only appeal: Pokemon is an RPG, and it seems to do fine with the younger audience. (And to my first point, it does well because it's a good game. Kids only tend to hype good games over bad ones, which is something I can't say for adults.)

At least yesterday's game was good, I'm still trying to scratch the surface of that one.

I am one who usually gets bothered by all the negative remarks on here but I am araid I am going to have to side with the fellow commenters on this one. I come here everyday and I have downloaded a lot of games (all very appreciated) but they end up all being for 2 of my kids. However, These DoubleGames suck. My 7 & 9 year old won't even play them anymore.
I'm not a RPG fan and I notice that the rating are higher for those games but I feel that at least those games are grown-up games. Two pieces of advice GGOTD... 1) steer clear of DoubleGames for a while, please and 2) consider some games that appeal to the current era of games and gamers. Thank you

OH HOW WONDERFULL,(NOT)
giving away another fully functional FREEWARE GAME!!!
and from FREEGAMES4REST TOO!!!

y'all are REALLY scraping the bottom of the software barrel lately!
and discouraging anyone from revisiting this site due to the major futility factor.

what happened to the GOOD GAMES that you started this site many moons ago?? you would do yourselves a BIG service if you re-issued some of THOSE games from past offerings rather than driving visitors away by presenting the trash from freegames4rest which NONE of your visitors have any wish for! this may well be the cause of your site gathering dust and cobwebs for lack of visitation!

After reading the Dudes comments the other day when Run Painter Run was offered, I decided I would check the web to see how many of the games Freegames4rest have offered dishonestly saying they were commercial games. There are quite a few unfortunately. Well today’s is no exception. You can download this game as freeware from the following link, however there is a surprise further down about this fact????????

http://www.soft32.com/download_124635.html

McAfee site advisor does give is a cautionary yellow, which means that most downloads have been green, but there have been some complaints. So if you really wanted to keep this game without the GGAotD’s restrictions then the above is probably the safest site you’re going to get it from. All the other sites that flagged this game were red warnings.
I actually downloaded it from the mirror link provided on the download page, which gave a further warning, but on testing the downloaded file, which was exactly the same size as the one we get from GGAotD, no problems were found. However on installing this though, it turns out that it’s not Freeware, but a 15 day license. I don’t know what’s going on with this developer/distributor, but to falsely claim such things really does seem dishonest. You can activate this version using the giveaways activation key. However I wouldn’t advise surfing those freeware site due to the negative results I’m getting from McAfee.

-------------------------------------------------------

BRIEF REVIEW:

This is definitely a game for young children from around age 5 to 10 (at the most). I played it for about 20 minutes and found it uninspiring, lack luster and dare I say it ‘boring’. The game rules are simple and reasonably explained in the help menu (see help menu image below for full details). Basically you have to collect blue and grey buttons and avoid red and pink buttons. At the start of the game you only get the pink and Grey power ups, but as you progress through the levels more colored buttons with specific powers will appear. For example yellow buttons appear in level 2; these increase or decrease the size of your green button. For an explanation of all the power-ups of which there are 15 if you count the red and blue twice because there are two sizes of each see the image below titled ‘Explanation of Button Types’. The gray square decreases the speed of the buttons temporarily. Collecting more than one of these is cumulative, so you can stop the buttons moving totally if you collect 2 grays in a row. The effect wears of fairly quickly, but the buttons do start moving slowly at first then gradually get back up to the normal speed. The pink buttons as you have probably already guessed do the opposite, and speed up the buttons. The faster the buttons move the more likely you are to hit red buttons which decrease your life. You start with two lives plus the one you start with. Blue buttons add 1 or 2 to your score depending upon whether it’s a small or large button. You will see the occasional heart which gives you an extra life. There is a bar at the bottom right that tells you how long you’ve got in slow motion or speed up.

The top of the playing field has indicators for the level you are on, the score and how much time you have left to play the level. To the bottom right of the playing area is your health status in the form of a bar with a heart. Every time you touch a red button this is reduced, but occasionally you do get life power ups which I mentioned above which will increase your health.

The usual FreeGames4Rest /DoubleGames options menu resides in the top right hand corner of the playing field; that is the music, sound and windowed/full screen mode toggles, as well as a link (in the form of a question mark) to the help menu, which definitely wasn’t written ‘for’ adults (IMO)

Explanation of Button types:

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n61/Whiterabbit_01/gaotd/Button%20up/Buttonupbuttons.gif

Some buttons change color randomly, and also change to speed up or slow motion squares, as well as hearts., which also come in two sizes which indicate whether you get a top up or a full life back. Whichever power button you pick up you can quickly see what it does by looking at the purple bar at the bottom left of the screen. The type of power up is scrolled across the purple bar as soon as you pick it up. As each level progresses, the speed of the buttons also increases.

The music is a loop comprising a few seconds taken from a little known record by the band Yello; (from the 1980’s) I can’t remember the title, and can’t be bothered fishing out the record which is amongst a pile of old cassettes stored in the study. The loop is really annoying, as are the sound effects which are very poor quality. Thankfully there is a toggle to turn these off.

There is no music folder, and if you check the games folder there are seven web links. Which I’ve not seen before (apart from Double Games and FreeGames4rest), one of the links takes you to DoubleGames.

The game is worth a download if you’ve got children, who will quickly decide whether it’s a game worth keeping, but I cannot see any adults enjoying this game; however I may be wrong. The graphics are of the same standard as most other Freegames4all. I personally would rate this a very poor 2 out of 10 because the re-playability is virtually zero (IMO), you can’t save games, so you always start at level one, and the music and sound effects are chronic.(even though I love the full

Thank you FreeGames4Rest and the giveaway team for this game. I ‘think’ it may hold my daughters attention (aged 6) for a short while. However I would not in all honesty, pay even a couple of dollars for this game as there are far better freeware alternatives out there. You really should sort out the sites that say this and other games are freeware when they are not. As this is only damaging your reputation.

Have a great day.

License might say free on those other sites mentioned by Belgian Dude, but it still downloads from freegames4rest and you have a limited amount of time to play after which you must pay if you want to keep playing.

I can´t understand how could anyone pay $14.95 for this. I have seen Free games made by amateurs in unregistered version of Game Maker and they were better than this. Anyway, at least thanks for the effort GGOTD

For free, adequate. For 14.95, criminal. I wonder if Yell-O is aware that their song was ripped off? ("Oh Yeah", popularly known on the Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack)

The sounds during the game are miserable and repetitive, as is the game. Played once, likely never again. Unlike comment 4, I'm not concerned when a game is released, I'm concerned with replayability. Tell me Doom isn't still a great game, even though it's over 15 years old.

I would give this one a 4 out of 10, it's at least a new concept, just not done very well.

The game isn't free. The links provided by Belgian Dude both lead to demo versions.

That said, a demo version will probably be more than enough to get the urge to play out of your system. The game is rather simple, and to me, it lacks the addiction factor other simple games may have.

Wow, last I checked we're in the 21st century now. One would hope the games could keep up.

I have been watching this site for a couple of months. Specially last week. ...Have you notice that it's only childgames here?? Or is that just me? run a ladder, shot monsters, play with colour...How about something for the brain? chess, traffic jam - parking lot problems. (get a parked car out, surrounded by many others),solve a crime... A bloddy crossboard, damn it. SOMETHING WORTH THINK ABOUT!!

Otherwice, good software. To long time between a boring one and a exited one, but... Thank's.
John.

Wait...you mean, the buttons aren't just funny...they're MAGICAL, too? And it's chock full of the competition's spirit, too? Wow! It's amazing to me that a game with so much going for it could still be so awful.

(For those readers not entirely fluent in English, allow me to point out that most of the above commentary was intended in a humorous or sarcastic fashion. All except the part about the game being awful. That was sincere.)
